  • How do you think while formulating Sql Queries. Is it an experience or a concept ?

    I have been working on sql server and front end coding and have usually faced problem formulating queries. I do understand most of the concepts of sql that are needed in formulating queries but whenever some new functionality comes into the picture that can be dont using sql query, i do usually fails resolving them. I am very comfortable with select queries using joins and all such things but when it comes to DML operation i usually fails For every query that i never done before I usually finds uncomfortable with that while creating them. Whenever I goes for an interview I usually faces this problem. Is it their some concept behind approaching on formulating sql queries. Eg. I need to create an sql query such that A table contain single column having duplicate record. I need to remove duplicate records. I know i can find the solution to this query very easily on Googling, but I want to know how everyone comes to the desired result. Is it something like Practice Makes Man Perfect i.e. once you did it, next time you will be able to formulate or their is some logic or concept behind. I could have get my answer of solving above problem simply by posting it on stackoverflow and i would have been with an answer within 5 to 10 minutes but I want to know the reason. How do you work on any new kind of query. Is it a major contribution of experience or some an implementation of concepts. Whenever I learns some new thing in coding section I tries to utilize it wherever I can use it. But here scenario seems to be changed because might be i am lagging in some concepts.

Doing my first tryouts with foreign keys in a mySQL database and are trying to do a insert, that fails for this reason: Integrity constraint violation: 1452 Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails Does this mean that foreign keys restrict INSERTS as well as DELETES and/or UPDATES on each table that is enforced with foreign keys relations? I'm getting problem when I execute insert and/or update of millions of row one after another while this operation perform I got the MYSQL error that: 'max_user_connections' active connections which is the best way to solve this problem.   • DNS query re website Status: inactive

    There is a website that I am assisting with which, when you do a DNS look up on Who.is, returns a Website Status of "inactive". I also noticed the server type is incorrectly reported. This is not a website I generally use for DNS queries so am unsure if it is reliable. Using other DNS checking services reports what Iwould expect and the site is functioning correctly. Research I have done with regard to Website Status: inactive suggests an issue with the DNS configuration? I am looking for help understanding if this is something to be concerned with and if possible how to update this value or how it gets set in the first place.

    What do I do, I need to fetch data from 3 tables in mysql, here is my current query. All of the tables contain the IDNO which has 03A45 number. But this query isnt returning any results: SELECT * FROM father, mother, parents WHERE father.IDNO=mother.IDNO=parents.IDNO AND mother.IDNO='03A45' AND father.IDNO='03A45' AND parents.IDNO='03A45' What would be the correct query for this? All of the tables have the IDNO as primary key.

    Given a server name and a physical path, I'd like to be able to hunt down the IISWebServer object and ApplicationPool. Website url is also an acceptable input. Our technologies are IIS 6, WMI, and access via C# or Powershell 2. I'm certain this would be easier with IIS 7 its managed API. We don't have that yet. Here's what I can do: Get a list of IIS virtual directories from IISWebVirtualDirSetting and filter (offline) for the matching physical path. $theVirtualDir = gwmi -Namespace "root/MicrosoftIISv2" ` -ComputerName $servername -authentication PacketPrivacy ` -class "IISWebVirtualDirSetting" ` | where-object {$_.Path -like $deployLocation} From the virtual directory object, I can get a name (like W3SVC/40565456/root). Given this name, I can get to other goodies, such as the IIS web server object. gwmi -Namespace "root/MicrosoftIISv2" ` -ComputerName $servername ` -authentication PacketPrivacy ` -Query "SELECT * FROM IisWebServer WHERE Name='W3SVC/40589473'" The questions, restated: 1) This is a query language. Can I join or subquery so that 1 WMI query statement gets web servers based on IISWebVirtualDir.Path? How? 2) In solving 1, you'll have to explain how to query on the Path property. Why is this an invalid query? "SELECT * FROM IISWebVirtualDirSetting WHERE Path='D:\sites\globaldominator'"

    I have trouble naming the COUNT() column from SQL queries and will swap between various variants _Count [Count] (sql, or "count" or backticks for MySQL etc) C Cnt CountSomething (where "something" is the field being counted, or "CountAll") NoOfRows RowCount etc Has anyone come up with any name that you are happy with and always use without hesitation? This is bothering me because after joining SO just recently, my answers have shown this tendency of flip-flopping with no consistency. I need to get this sorted. Please help. (While we're at it, what do you use for SUM etc?)     Hi community, I'm interessted, how does Linq2Sql handles a compiled query, that returns IQueryable. If I call an extension method based on a compiled query like "GetEntitiesCompiled().Count()" or "GetEntitiesCompiled().Take(x)". What does Linq2Sql do in the background? This would be very bad, so in this situation I should write a compiled query like "CountEntitiesCompiled". Does he load the result (in this case "GetEntitiesCompiled()") into the memory (mapped to the entity class like "ToList()")? So what situations make sense, when the compiled queries return IQueryable, that query is not able to modify, before request to the Sql-Server. So in my opinion I can just as good return List.   • Difference between KeywordQuery, FullTextQuerySearch type for Object Model and Web service Query

    Initially I believed these 3 to be doing more or less the same thing with just the notation being different. Until recently, when i noticed that their does exists a big difference between the results of the KeyWordQuery/FullTextQuerySearch and Web service Query. I used both KeywordQuery and FullText method to search of the the value of a customColumn XYZ with value (ASDSADA-21312ASD-ASDASD):- When I run this query as:- FullTextSqlQuery:- FullTextSqlQuery myQuery = new FullTextSqlQuery(site); { // Construct query text String queryText = "Select title, path, author, isdocument from scope() where freetext('ASDSADA-21312ASD-ASDASD') "; myQuery.QueryText = queryText; myQuery.ResultTypes = ResultType.RelevantResults; }; // execute the query and load the results into a datatable ResultTableCollection queryResults = myQuery.Execute(); ResultTable resultTable = queryResults[ResultType.RelevantResults]; // Load table with results DataTable queryDataTable = new DataTable(); queryDataTable.Load(resultTable, LoadOption.OverwriteChanges); I get the following result representing the document. * Title: TestPDF * path: http://SharepointServer/Shared Documents/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=94 * author: null * isDocument: false Do note the Path and isDocument fields of the above result. Web Service Method Then I tried a Web Service Query method. I used Sharepoint Search Service Tool available at http://sharepointsearchserv.codeplex.com/ and ran the same query i.e. Select title, path, author, isdocument from scope() where freetext('ASDSADA-21312ASD-ASDASD'). This time I got the following results:- * Title: TestPDF * path: http://SharepointServer/Shared Documents/TestPDF.pdf * author: null * isDocument: true Again note the path. While the search results from 2nd method are useful as they provide me the file path exactly, I can't seem to understand why is the method 1 not giving me the same results? Why is there a discrepancy between the two results?
