Drawing an image in Java, slow as hell on a netbook.

In follow-up to my previous questions (especially this one : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2684123/java-volatileimage-slower-than-bufferedimage), i have noticed that simply drawing an Image (it doesn't matter if it's buffered or volatile, since the computer has no accelerated memory*, and tests shows it's doesn't change anything), tends to be very long. (*) System.out.println(GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment() .getDefaultScreenDevice().getAvailableAcceleratedMemory()); --> 0 How long ? For a 500x400 image, about 0.04 seconds. This is only drawing the image on the backbuffer (obtained via buffer strategy). Now considering that world of warcraft runs on that netbook (tough it is quite laggy) and that online java games seems to have no problem whatsoever, this is quite thought provoking. I'm quite certain I didn't miss something obvious, I've searched extensively the web, but nothing will do. So do any of you java whiz have an idea of what obscure problem might be causing this (or maybe it is normal, tough I doubt it) ? PS : As I'm writing this I realized this might be cause by my Linux installation (archlinux) tough I have the correct Intel driver. But my computer normally has "Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950", which would mean it should have accelerated video memory somehow. Any ideas about this side of things ?

Flushing writes in buffer of Memory Controller to DDR device

At some point in my code, I need to push the writes in my code all the way to the DIMM or DDR device. My requirement is to ensure the write reaches the row,ban,column of the DDR device on the DIMM. I need to read what I've written to the main memory. I do not want caching to get me the value. Instead after writing I want to fetch this value from main memory(DIMM's). So far I've been using Intel's x86 instruction wbinvd(write back and invalidate cache). However this means the caches and TLB are flushed. Write-back requests go to the main memory. However, there is a reasonable amount of time this data might reside in the write buffer of the Memory Controller( Intel calls it integrated memory controller or IMC). The Memory Controller might take some more time depending on the algorithm that runs in the Memory Controller to handle writes. Is there a way I force all existing or pending writes in the write buffer of the memory controller to the DRAM devices ?? What I am looking for is something more direct and more low-level than wbinvd. If you could point me to right documents or specs that describe this I would be grateful. Generally, the IMC has a several registers which can be written or read from. From looking at the specs for that for the chipset I could not find anything useful. Nokogiri changing custom elements

Hi, I have sample html that I have marked up with some special tags that will be used by a different program, an example of the html is below. You should note the <START:organization>..<END> elements. <html> <head/> <body> <ul> <li> <START:organization> Advanced Integrated Pest Management <END> </li> <li> <START:organization> American Bakers Association <END> </li> </ul> </body> </html> I wanted to use nokogiri to preprocess the html to easily remove irrelevant tags like <script>. I created the following extension to the nokogiri document class: module Nokogiri module HTML class Document def prepare_html xpath("//script").remove to_html.remove_new_lines end end end end The problem is that nokogiri is changing the <START:organization> element to <organization>. Is there anyway that I can preserve the htnl to maintain my custom markup tags? Thanks Paul

Does .Net use Device Dependent or Device Independent Bitmaps?

When loading an image into memory, does .Net use DDB, DIB, or something else entirely? If possible, please cite your sources. I'm wondering because we currently have a classic ASP application that is using a 3rd party component to load images that is occasionally creating a “Not enough storage is available to process this command.” error. The error is very inconsistent but tends to happen on larger images (not always, but often). After resetting IIS, processing the same file again typically works just fine. After much research I have found that DDBs tend to have this problem when processing large images because they work out of video memory. Considering that we are running on a web server with an integrated video card and limited shared memory, this could certainly be our problem. We are in the early stages of converting our app to .Net and am wondering if using .Net for this might be a viable alternative to our current method which is why I am asking the question. Any advice is welcome :) but out of curiosity if nothing else, I am really hoping for an answer to the question; does .Net use DDB or DIB?

SharePoint webpart with button to auto-login to 3rd party website

I have been tasked with creating a SharePoint 2007 webpart that logs the user directly into our website (which uses forms authentication). Most likely the username and password will be same in the SharePoint account as in our website. Ideally we would like it to be fully integrated in that the webpart looks up the SP login & password, somehow encodes that using SHA1, MD5 or similar encryption, then passes that along to our login page on the query string. However given we have little experience with SharePoint, and that it's probably impossible to programmatically access the SP username/password from a webpart we realize this isn't very likely to be possible and if so would probably require a lot of development time. Another option would be to load a login form from the website within an iframe in the webpart, which would show the login & password first but store a "remember me" cookie after the first login, and on each subsequent load display just a button that logs them in directly using the cookie. Has anyone done something similar before? I'm in over my head, any guidance would be much appreciated! :)

I am having another button called "insert Values" and also 5 textboxes. The values that are entered in the textbox are used and whenever com.ExecuteNonQuery(); line comes, it throws an error message Invalid object name '#tbl_emp_answer'.. Below is the set of code.. sql server mdf file database attachment

hello all i'm having a bear of a time getting visual studio 2010 (ultimate i think) to properly attach to my database. it was moved from original spot to #MYAPP#/#MYAPP#.Web/App_Data/#MDF_FILE#.mdf. I have three instances of sql server running on this machine. i have tried to replace the old mdf file with my new one and cannot get the connectionstring right for it. what i'm really wanting to do is to just open some DB instance, run a DB create script. Then I can have a DB that was generated via my edmx (generate database from model) in silverlight business application (c#) right now, when i go to server explorer in VS, choose add new connection, choose MS SQL Server Database FIle (SqlClient), choose my file location (app_data directory), use windows authentication, and hit the Test Connection button I get the following error: Unable to open the physical file "". Operating system error 5: "5(Access Denied.)". An attempt to attach to an auto-named database for file"" failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. The mdf file was created on the same machine by connecting to (local) on the sql server management studio, getting a new query, pasting in the SQL from the generated ddl file, adding a CREATE DATABASE [NcrCarDatabase]; GO before the pasted SQL, and executing the query. I then disconnected from the DB in management studio, closed management studio, navigated to the DATA directory for that instance, and copying the mdf and ldf files to my application's app_data folder. I am then trying to connect to the same file inside visual studio. I hope that gives more clarity to my problems :). Connection string is: Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:\SourceCode\NcrCarDatabase\NcrCarDatabase.Web\App_Data\NcrCarDatabase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True

How can I use a custom configured RememberMeAuthenticationFilter in spring security?

I want to use a slightly customized rememberme functionality with spring security (3.1.0). I declare the rememberme tag like this: <security:remember-me key="JNJRMBM" user-service-ref="gymUserDetailService" /> As I have my own rememberme service I need to inject that into the RememberMeAuthenticationFilter which I define like this: <bean id="rememberMeFilter" class="org.springframework.security.web.authentication.rememberme.RememberMeAuthenticationFilter"> <property name="rememberMeServices" ref="gymRememberMeService"/> <property name="authenticationManager" ref="authenticationManager" /> </bean> I have spring security integrated in a standard way in my web.xml: <filter-name>springSecurityFilterChain</filter-name> <filter-class>org.springframework.web.filter.DelegatingFilterProxy</filter-class> Everything works fine, except that the RememberMeAuthenticationFilter uses the standard RememberMeService, so I think that my defined RememberMeAuthenticationFilter is not being used. How can I make sure that my definition of the filter is being used? Do I need to create a custom filterchain? And if so, how can I see my current "implicit" filterchain and make sure I use the same one except my RememberMeAuthenticationFilter instead of the default one? ADO.NET: Can't connect to mdf database file

I'm writing an application that uses a SQL Server 2005 database. In the connection string i'm specifying the mdf file like this: connstr = @"Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS; AttachDbFilename=" + fileLocation + "; Integrated Security=True; User Instance=True"; When i execute the code: public static void forceConnection() { try { conn = new SqlConnection(connstr); conn.Open(); } catch (Exception e) { MessageBox.Show(e.Message, "Erro", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } finally { if(conn != null) conn.Close(); } } I receive an exception: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) This code works on XP but not in Vista.. I tryed run Visual Studio in admin mode and moved the mdf file to "user data" folders but the error persists.. Any help? Thanks!

Druapl & Regular PHP Integration

I'm building a new website which has one core application and many content pages. Content pages are mostly dynamic and I require a way to manage this dynamic content on a regular basis. The core application's main functionality is a 3 step process or reading user data (input page), reading data from MySQL (product page) and submitting an application to an email address (application page). Ideally I would like to build the core application in regular PHP and leverage Drupal for its content management capabilities. Can Drupal and regular PHP be integrated as I suggest easily? My feeling is that coding the core application as a Drupal module(s) will add layers of complexity that could be difficult to code from the outset and maintain later on as the system matures - so I would really like to just use regular PHP. Let me explain where dynamic content (managed by the CMS) intersects with the core application: Dynamic content such as FAQ data is used both on the 'normal' help pages and also within a mini-feed displayed within core application pages down a right hand side column. In this column, 3 random questions are pulled from the database and displayed as a feed. When users click on FAQ question they are not taken away from the core application product page but are instead shown data in a pop-up window displaying the question and answer. In addition, users can browse other questions and answers through a simple navigation menu within this popup. There are 3 such like feeds as I describe above that I require on the core application product page. So, what is the ideal solution here in terms of 'keeping things simple' for both the management of dynamic content and the ease of coding the core application? Can 'regular PHP' and Drupal co-exist 'peacefully'? If so, how is this technically possible? Because there is some content managed by Drupal contained within core application pages, can the core application still be coded in regular PHP? Any advice / suggestions? Thank you! Jim.

CompositionHost.Initialize() can not execute twice.

I am currently try to integrate MEF and PRISM to work with each other. Everything is working fine so far. Now i would like to use MEF runtime module discovery (DeploymentCatalog) which will be used to download XAPs from server directory and then plug it into one of the Region inside my MAIN UI. I am using UnityBootStrapper and inside this class i also integrated MEF container. This sample application is based on Glenn Block (http://codebetter.com/glennblock/2010/01/03/mef-and-prism-exploration-mef-module-loading/). Authentication Problem in Silverlight - Cannot connect to SQL Server

Hi All, At the moment, when I try to register a user using the default Business Template in Silverlight, I am getting an error. Basically I am following a tutorial found on Channel 9 on how to build a business app with Silverlight. "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5) An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 1326)". I found a blog where it identifies the problem, and followed every step, however I am still getting the same problems. association of more than one model to a listview

I have 3 Tables in my database. Each table has 3 fields each, excluding the ID field. out of which 2 fields are of type nvarchar. None of the tables are related. My ListView in the application helps the user to search my database, the search being incremental. The search includes the nvarchar fields of the 3 tables ie, 6 fields in total. Eg: PhoneBook: Name, PhoneNo Notes: Title, Content Bookmarks: Name, url I've the models generated for the 3 tables. Now the ListBox should display the Ph.Name, Title and the Bo.Name fields. ie, It should be bound to them. But they are from different models. I also should be able to perform CRUD operation on the item searched. How would i do that? P.S: Separate ViewModels are created for each Model which are used for their respective views for handling those tables individually. But this is an integrated view where the user should be able to search everything. Also please somebody suggest me a better Title for this question:)

Magento products will not show in category

I've recently been tasked with the build and deployment of a large Ecommerce site. In the past we've had to use the clients legacy X-cart installation for redevelopment (too far integrated with their existing work flow). We'd heard good things about Magento, so I've set up a test install to get to grips with it. After a couple of initial issues, there is a live development site which displays categories on the default theme. The problem we've hit now is that products don't display..! After a lot more in-depth research into this, all I've been able to discover is that quite a number of developers endorse using other solutions entirely, with the other 50% saying after the steep learning curve the platform is as wonderful as we'd initially been led to believe. Now, my test category is showing, so I know this is configured properly. I've set up three test products and associated them with this (all done following the Magento user guide), checked double checked and thrice checked the products are enabled and visible individually, yet still the front end says the category has no products in it. I've cleared the cache repeatedly, reset everything possible many times in index management - no products show up. I have to make a call tomorrow morning on whether we're going ahead with Magento. If I can't even get it to show products I'm going to have to go with something with a more established track record and more community support available. Can anybody advise what could possibly be wrong here?

Grails target folder doesn't appear to be on application's classpath

I have a grails project with some additional java source files under src/java folder. When compiling/running the server, the files under that directory get compiled into the project's target folder, together with all other groovy/grails classes. So far so good. However, when I try to load one of the java source files (from src/java) using reflection (Class.forName to be exact), a ClassNotFoundException gets thrown. What is peculiar about the whole thing is that if I copy that same class from project's target/ folder into the following location (on windows): <myuser>\.grails\1.2.2\projects\<MyProjectName>\resources then no exception gets thrown and the corresponding class is loaded fine. This seems to indicate to me that the integrated grails server only looks at classes within the user's dynamically generated project folder, and not the actual project's target folder. Is my understanding correct? Is there a way to force grails to copy certain classfiles from target/ folder into the resources folder within the user dir? Is there a different way to load the classfiles using reflection? I was looking at using the grailsApplication's classloader but that didn't seem to work either. Any tips would be more than welcome. architecture - centraled location for different modules (cms, webapplications, ...) - best practise

Let's just say that i want to create a cms + other online applications. I want them all to integrate into a central location, but they also have to be available seperately (not everyone want's more than the cms solution). Would i create a huge central application that contains all the database, which communicates through a webserice with the "standalone - integrated" modules? Or would i create them seperately and the only thing that the "central" application would do is syncing the information (eg. the cms and another solution can have the same tables (eg. clients or employees). Or do you have another idea? (i know i'm a little vague, but i can't "give" a lot of details because of work - contract). If someone has all the "packages" it should be possible for the central application to integrate all the modules at one place! Or if someone has more than 1 module, it should combine this on the website. What i thought is best, is that the central location contains only the users and their rights (eg. cms - all rights, ...), and the information get synced with every change. (module cms, adding a new client - store locally and send data to the central location, central location - send to modules = table clients updated everywhere) This way it is easy if someone only "bought" a module, they can sync it easily through the complete architecture. I hope i made myself clear!

Continuous Flash music player while navigating site

I have a site that includes a Flash music player integrated into the layout. I want users to be able to navigate around the site without interrupting the music. I've done plenty of research and thinking and the following are the options I came up with (keeping in mind I want to be as SEO friendly as possible). Anyone have another idea? AJAX: I set up a version that changes the main content div to whatever nav link they click, thereby not interrupting the Flash player. I set it up in the proper search-engine-friendly manner with direct links and JQuery/Ajax functions. If someone goes to site.com/ and clicks the Contact nav link, it loads what's in the main content div on site.com/contact.php into the main content div and changes the URL bar to site.com/#Contact. The same goes for if they go to site.com/contact.php and click About in the nav, it loads the About content and changes the URL bar to site.com/contact.php#About. Obviously this opens up a whole new can of worms with AJAX and hash navigation/history issues, and I would end up with people possibly linking to things like site.com/contact.php#About (which I think looks terrible and can't be too great for SEO). Store the Flash player vars somewhere and reload them with the page: I'm not sure how to go about this, but I thought about keeping my regular navigation without AJAX and have it so when a user clicks a nav link, before it changes pages it stores the Flash player vars (current song and song position) somewhere, then loads them into Flash when the new page loads. Something with an iframe? Good alternative to a Flash player that will work for this type of application? Thanks!

How do I break down an NSTimeInterval into year, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds on iPhone?

I have a time interval that spans years and I want all the time components from year down to seconds. My first thought is to integer divide the time interval by seconds in a year, subtract that from a running total of seconds, divide that by seconds in a month, subtract that from the running total and so on. That just seems convoluted and I've read that whenever you are doing something that looks convoluted, there is probably a built-in method. Is there? I integrated Alex's 2nd method into my code. It's in a method called by a UIDatePicker in my interface. If I set the date picker to 1 day in the past, I am off by the same amount. Update: I have an app that calculates your age in years, given your birthday (set from a UIDatePicker), yet it was often off. This proves there was an inaccuracy, but I can't figure out where it comes from, can you?

Why are a visual studio project's command-line settings stored per user? Is it OK to check-in (and

We're creating an application that understands some command-line parameters. There are some default's we would like to supply on the command-line when debugging, and these are easily set in the project settings as explained here. The thing is visual studio stores these settings in a *.csproj.user file, and the default settings for integrated source control do not check-in *.user files. We would like to just have these default command-line parameters in everyone's IDE when debugging this project. Often (but not always) when visual studio guides you into doing things a certain way it is for good reason. We probably don't want to just check-in someone's .csproj.user file... right? This question is has a few parts: Why does Visual Studio store this particular setting per user? Is there a way to alter this behavior? - Would doing so bring bad juju? Under these circumstances is it OK to check-in and share a .user file? Is there a better way to accomplish what we are trying to do here? Thank you -

My example is simple, but it doesn't display my columns and rows in the command prompt, instead it display System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader. What's the state of PHP unit testing frameworks in 2010?

As far as I can see, PHPUnit is the only serious product in the field at the moment. It is widely used, is integrated into Continuous Integration suites like phpUnderControl, and well regarded. The thing is, I don't really like working with PHPUnit. I find it hard to set up (PEAR is the only officially supported installation method, and I hate PEAR), sometimes complicated to work with and, correct me if I'm wrong, lacking executability from a web page context (i.e. no CLI, which would really be nice when developing a web app.) The only competition to I can see is Simpletest, which looks very nice but hasn't seen a new release for almost two years, which tends to rule it out for me - Unit Testing is quite a static field, true, but as I will be deploying those tests alongside web applications, I would like to see active development on the project, at least for security updates and such. There is a SO question that pretty much confirms what I'm saying: Simple test vs PHPunit Seeing that that is almost two years old as well, though, I think it's time to ask again: Does anybody know any other serious feature-complete unit testing frameworks? Am I wrong in my criticism of PHPUnit? Is there still development going on for SimpleTest?

Is there any way to make this JavaScript tab completion script more efficient?

This code is to be integrated into an AJAX Chat system to enable a tab auto-completion of user names: var usernames = new Array(); usernames[0] = "Saladin"; usernames[1] = "Jyllaby"; usernames[2] = "CadaverKindler"; usernames[3] = "qbsuperstar03"; var text = "Text and something else q"; // Start of the script to be imported var searchTerm = text.slice(text.lastIndexOf(" ") + 1); var i; for(i = 0; i < usernames.length && usernames[i].substr(0,searchTerm.length) != searchTerm; i++); // End of the script to be imported document.write(usernames[i]); A couple of notes to be made: The array of usernames and the text variable would both be loaded from the chat itself via AJAX (which, unfortunately, I don't know), and the final output will be handled by AJAX as well. Is there a more efficient way to do this? Also, any tips on how to handle multiple instances of the searchTerm being found?
