• Error 3032 during EF 4.0 validation

  Hi guys. I have a table that has a column called "rowguid" with default value of newguid(). After I delete the generated property in the Entity Framework 4.0 designer, whenever I try to build or validate the model I receive the following error message. Error 3023: Problem in mapping fragments starting at line 1460:Column People.rowguid in table People must be mapped: It has no default value and is not nullable. It's an obvious error message but the problem is that the column HAS default value. Does anyone knows what the problem is? Thanks.

• Maven. What to do with "homeless" jars?

  I have some proprietary.jar that I need to include in my project, but I don't wish to install it to the local repository. What I did initially was to put the jar into version control in my project's lib/ folder, and then specify the Maven dependency as: <!-- LOCAL DEPENDENCY --> <dependency> <groupId>topsecret</groupId> <artifactId>proprietary</artifactId> <version>0.0.1</version> <scope>system</scope> <systemPath>${basedir}/lib/java/proprietary.jar</systemPath> </dependency> However, this becomes a big problem when my project becomes someone else's dependency. Maven will not be able to validate this POM because the path is not absolute. What is the best way to overcome this problem?

• Process xml-like log file queue

  Hi all, first of all: I'm not a programmer, never was, although had learn a lot during my professional carreer as a support consultant. Now my task is to process - and create some statistics about a constantly written and rapidly growing XML like log file. It's not valid XML, because it does not have a proper <root> element, e.g. the log looks like this: <log itemdate="somedate"> <field id="0" /> ... </log> <log itemdate="somedate+1"> <field id="0" /> ... </log> <log itemdate="somedate+n"> <field id="0" /> ... </log> E.g. I have to count all the items with field id=0. But most of the solutions I had found (e.g. using XPath) reports an error about the garbage after the first closing </log>. Most probably I can use python (2.6, although I can compile 3.x as well), or some really old perl version (5.6.x), and recently compiled xmlstarlet which really looks promising - I was able to create the statistics for a certain period after copying the file, and pre- & appending the opening and closing root element. But this is a huge file and copying takes time as well. Isn't there a better solution? Thanks in advance!

• ActiveRecord Create (not !) Throwing Exception on Validation

  So I'm using ActiveRecord model validations to validate a form in a RESTful application. I have a create action that does: @association = Association.new and the receiving end of the form creates a data hash of attributes from the form parameters to save to the database using: @association = user.associations.create(data) I want to simply render the create action if validation fails. The problem is that the .create (not !) method is throwing an exception in cases where the model validation fails. Example: validates_format_of :url, :with => /(^$)|(^(http|https):\/\/[a-z0-9]+([\-\.]{1}[a-z0-9]+)*\.[a-z]{2,5}(([0-9]{1,5})?\/.*)?$)/ix, :message => "Your url doesn't seem valid." in the model produces: ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid Exception: Validation failed: Url Your url doesn't seem valid. I thought .create! is supposed throw an exception whereas .create is not. Am I missing something here? Ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 173 & rails 2.3.3

• Is it safe to display user input as input values without sanitation?

  Say we have a form where the user types in various info. We validate the info, and find that something is wrong. A field is missing, invalid email, et cetera. When displaying the form to the user again I of course don't want him to have to type in everything again so I want to populate the input fields. Is it safe to do this without sanitation? If not, what is the minimum sanitation that should be done first? And to clearify: It would of course be sanitized before being for example added to a database or displayed elsewhere on the site.

• "Intercepting" user input into text box and removing it

  I have a text box that I would like to do some validation on. At the moment I have this code: function updateChanger() { // Validate input var likeMessage = validateInput($("#like").val()); alert(likeMessage); } function validateInput(input) { input = input.replace(/[^a-zA-Z0-9:\(\/\)\s\.,!~]/g, ""); return input; } This successfully trims out unwanted characters in the likeMessage variable, but the character still gets entered into the text box. I would like to stop that from happening. I know it will have something to do with $("#like").val() but the only thing I can think of is just chopping off the end character from the text box value, would this suffice? Thanks for any help!

  Hi, I have a system with 2 different projects, one is called LINQ_Extensions and the other is ORM_Linq. On ORM_Linq i have the LINQ diagram with the SQL tables "converted" in clases. One of the Class is called "Tipos_Pago" In the other project i have another class (partial class) "Tipos_Pago". I want to use the method OnValidate to validate the properties include in the class "Tipos_Pago", so i create this partial class. In the 2 projects i put the same NameSpace "ORM_Linq"(I changed the NameSpace of the project "LINQ_Extensions" to have the same of the project "ORM_Linq") After those chages, Visual Studio give me this error: Error 1 No defining declaration found for implementing declaration of partial method 'ORM_Linq.Tipos_Pago.OnValidate(System.Data.Linq.ChangeAction)' C..\Tipos_Pago.cs 13 22 Extensiones_Linq I don't have any Idea of what happend, can someone help me? • How do I close a form when the ESC key was hit, but only if no Control handled it?

  I have a Form that closes itself when the ESC key is pressed, thanks to KeyPreview, ProcessKeyEventArgs, ProcessCmdKey or whatever. But I have a Control on that form that does very relevant things when ESC is pressed (it hides itself) and the Form should not be closed when that happens. The control uses the KeyDown event and sets the SuppressKeyPress flag to true, but that happens after the aforementioned form key preview, thus having no effect. Is there some sort KeyPostview ? How do I not close the form when a Control has a relevant use of a key hit ? Edit: The control handling ESC is a textbox embedded in a hand-maid ListView. The textbox appears when the user clicks a cell, enabling edition. To validate the new text, ENTER would be nice (that already works, as giving the focus to anything else). To cancel edition, ESC seems most natural.

• Creating C# form fields with events based off of a text file

  I need to generate windows form fields based off of a text file that I am parsing. I also want to automatically generate validation event handlers which all will be basically the same only the form field and the regular expression which is used to validate the field will change. I'm having a difficult time figuring out the quickest and easiest method to go about doing this. Any pointers in the right direction would really be great, maybe even some keywords that I'm missing. I can only imagine this type of question has been covered before, I just don't know what I'm searching for really.

  Hi, Today I faced one question in interview. Is it possible to apply inheritance concept on Singleton Classes. I said since the constructor is private, we cannot extend that Singleton class (can someone please validate this). Next thing he asked me is to apply inheritance on that Singleton class. So, I made the Singleton's constructor as protected thinking that child's constructor also has be protected. But I was wrong the child can have a modifier either equal to or higher than that. So, I asked him to give a real world example on such a case. He was not able to give me one and said that I cant ask questions and wanted me to tell whether this scenario is possible or not. I went kind of blank. My question here is, Is this possible? Even if its possible, what is the use of it? What real world scenario would demand such a use. Thanks

  Hi, Is there a possibility to block chance to add the same data to SPList? I know that two records always are different regarding the ID field. I would like to validate other custom fields added previously by me, and don't allow of adding same field's value. Can anybody tell me how to implement this? I can guess that event receivers could be the answer but I couldn't find how to add a receiver to SPList. • CodeIgniter Validation in Library does not accept callback.

  Hey guys, my problem is the following: I am writing a login library. This library has a function _validation() and this uses the validation library to validate the data. With using normal validation methods it works just fine, but using a callback function just does not work. It is not called. I call it like this. $this->CI->form_validation->set_rules('user', 'Username', 'required|callback__check_user'); The functions name is _check_user and it uses the username _check_user($user). The function itself works fine and I can also call it in the class ($this-_check_user('username')) with a working result. I am guessing, there might be a problem because I am not workin in a controller so I have a CI instance $this-CI instead of just the original instance $this- Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?   I would like to be able to validate an object in different contexts using DataAnnotations in .NET 4. For example: If I have a class with these annotated properties [Required] public string Name { get; set; } [Required] public string PhoneNumber { get; set; } [Required] public string Address { get; set; } I would like to be able to do something like bool namePhoneValid = Validator.TryValidateObject(entity, contextNamePhone, results1); bool allValid = Validator.TryValidateObject(entity, contextAll, results2); where contextNamePhone only validates Name and Phone, and contextAll validates all properties (Name, Phone and Address in this case). Is this possible? How should the validation context be constructed? Are there other/smarter ways to do this?

  Hi, hopefully this is a simple question. I have a simple custom forum on my site written in PHP. For security reasons I don't allow any HTML in the forum posts. I only allow certain BBCode tags. I would however like to allow embedded YouTube videos. So my question is this: What's the best (most secure) way to validate the YouTube embed code? YouTube is currently using iframes to embed videos, but obviously I can't just allow the iframe tag. I also need to ensure the src of the iframe is a YouTube URL, and ensure there's no other malicious bits of code in the iframe code.

• JSF skips phases - How to debug that?

  Hey fellows, I have to debug a foreign jsf application thanks god. The problem is, that I submit a form, but the values aren't carried over. With a phase listener I can see, that the life cycle doesn't run completely through, so to say it skips phase 2 -5: After the restore view phase, the render response phase is directly called. I miss the apply values, validation, update model actions and so on. So, this could be a chicken-and-egg problem: 1. The responsible phases aren't called, so the new form input can't be carried over. 2. The system doesn't recognize any new input and therefore directly renders after restoring the view. I checked that there is no call of responseComplete() oder renderResponse(). I'm stuck somehow. Any idea to validate one of the two hypothesis? Or how to debug that in general? Did anybody have a similar problem?

• Is there a version of postActionEvent for KeyEvent (specifically for a JTextArea)?

  I'm writing a program that contains multiple JTextFields and 2 JTextAreas within an input panel. I have a submit button on the bottom. I have it set up so when a user types something into each field (including the JTextAreas) and hits the Enter key, it updates a text file, and when they press the submit button it updates the file then outputs a new version of it in the local directory. If the user presses Enter in any of the fields, it validates their input, however, I want to re-validate all fields when they press the submit button. Each field (again, JTextAreas included) has it's own validation check within its ActionListener or KeyListener (for the JTextAreas). It's easy enough to use postActionEvent() for the JTextFields, but is there a similar method for the JTextAreas to force fire a KeyEvent? I don't want to duplicate code and consume memory by re-writing the validation for those 2 Components inside the ActionEvent for the JButton. Unfortunately, I can't provide a sample because I'm writing the program on a classified machine (PC).

• Rails STI validation inheritance

  Dear Rails users! I have STI models in my Rails application. The ancestor model has validations with the validates_... methods which are working fine. But I have custom validations as well, and I would like to add more different custom validations in the descendants. These custom validations would depend on the class. If I write class DescendantA < Ancestor protected def validate # ... end end It simply overwrites the original validations. Is there a convention to do this in Rails?
