  • Windows wait command till a system time

    I have made a batch script for backup recently. Somewhere in the middle of script I'll have to wait for some time to be reached and then resume the next line of the script. I've scheduled the script at 4:00PM and after the wait command the next line should start at exactly 5:30PM. I thought of using SLEEP command but it's not sure that the commands used before the wait command will end up at certain time(due to inconsistent file sizes) but it's sure that they will be done by 5:00 or 5:10 and next it should execute wait command which waits for certain system clock. I'm checking if there is any command that waits or sleeps until the time specified reaches the system time and resumes there after. Anybody came across this situation and how was that resolved?

  • Changing Windows Media Center StartRecording Task Scheduler options

    Hi, I'm experiencing some occasional crashes waking from sleep and I believe it may be related to the Corsair SSD F40GB2 as my boot disk...or the new Ceton tuner I recently installed... I dunno what the real problem is as I can't reproduce the problem manually. I read somewhere that I should not allow the hard disks to sleep...so I'm trying that in the meantime... At any rate, I don't really care that the computer crashes so long as WMC will start recording the task as soon as possible...the task is scheduled to wake the computer 5 minutes before the recording starts. I noticed that there is a StartRecording param in the Media Center folder in Task Scheduler. There is an option (currently unchecked) that will retry a failed task. I would like to know if there is a way to enable that checkbox. My hope is that if my PC crashes when waking up for this task, that after it reboots the task will trigger again and start recording.     What I'm looking for, is info on what is contained in the server 2008 system state backup. It is incredibly large (10+ G), and annoying to backup remotely. is there a way to take a full system state, and then do like a weekly incremental? I know the wbadmin tool, but its options are limited. I'm also looking for the option to remove the 2nd or 3rd oldest backup.

  • Running PCIE card with the on board video card as well in Windows 7

    I have an emachines Windows7 PC. I am trying to run the on board video card along with the dual DVI card I installed in the PCIE slot. In CMOS it shows the on board card as disabled and it will not let me enable it? Its greyed out so I cant even highlight it to change anything. I have done this before in XP on a few different machines so I know its possible, Any idea?

  • Brightness keeps changing in Windows 8.1 (on Macbook Pro Retina)

    Before anyone gets too excited, it's not the "Adaptive Brightness" feature of the OS. I've already turned that off. Also it seems to have nothing to do with ambient light. It actually seems to do with the average "color" of the display. If I'm working in dark-themed Visual Studio, the brightness "pops" brighter. When I switch to the browser, it "pops" darker. So it's kind of adaptive brightness based on average pixel color (or something like that). What makes it rather annoying is that the brightness pops, rather than transitioning gradually. What is this feature, and how do I disable it (or at least make it smoother)?

  • Windows XP: GNU find.exe moved my files and now they're lost

    I used a series of GNU find.exe commands to move media files to the current folder. Explorer show that the folders and files still exist in their original location but properties show zero size and files. I performed a chkdisk and that didnt help. Any ideas how to recover these files?   • Having issues with flickering output to TV from Windows 7 laptop

    I cannot tell why this is happening. I cannot get a pattern as to when it happens. Sometimes, I watch entire Hulu content without any interruptions. Other times, it happens 2-3 times in a span of 3 minutes. Then it stops for 10-15 minutes. Lenovo T410s Integrated graphics: Intel HD Graphics (Driver=8.15.10.2253, Video BIOS=2026.1) TV is a Zenith (does not happen with other laptop so doubt it's TV) TV connected to laptop using HDMI-to-DVI cable (previously was connected directly via DVI but I bought a new cable and it's still happening) Anyone could help me troubleshoot this? I'd greatly appreciate it. If you need more information, I'll be glad to provide it.

  • Windows 2003 Cluster: Failover Delay

    I am testing the failover policies of our test failover cluster system. When I shutdown the node who is currently controlling the cluster (NODE1), it takes about 2 mins and 40 seconds before the next node on the preferred list (NODE2) takes control of the cluster. I tried changing the looksAlive and isAlive interval to 5000ms to all resources, but that didn't help. Looking at the Event Viewer of the remaining nodes, it shows that it was almost instantly detected that NODE1 was down. But it took another ~2:40 minutes for it to be removed from the live cluster list and for NODE2 to take over. Is there anyway of changing or shortening this "failover delay"?   • Windows 2003 IIS FTP Server Migration w/ User Accounts

    I'm trying to figure out the best way to migrate an FTP server from old hardware to new hardware. The server is on a domain, but not all the users setup on the server (to use FTP) are domain accounts, some are local to the server. For example, I have users both ways: domain\username machinename\username The new machine name will be different. So I need to copy all the files with permissions in tact from the old server to the new server. Then I need to convert all the user accounts from the old server to the new server. Then I need to change the file permissions so that they are no longer oldserver\username but newserver\username. Can this be accomplished all with CALCS? Is there an easy way that perhaps I'm missing?

  • Expired Windows Server 2008 trial remote activation

    I have a remote server which has an expired license. I can't currently add the new license because of a licensing server error so I need to reboot the machine. My question is will I be able to remote desktop onto the machine and apply the new license or do I have to be physically at the server. I know an activation wizard usually appears and doesn't let you go any further but does this same wizard appear over remote desktop? I don't really want to reboot the machine only for it to not come up again.

  • Several "SideBySide" errors in the event viewer (Windows XP SP3)

    Hi all, For some reason, my netbook continuously comes up with SideBySide errors in the event viewer under Computer Management. Is there some way to get rid of these errors? My netbook occasionally BSODs and looking back into the event viewer after, at least 8 SideBySide errors were logged prior to BSOD. Please help! Thanks in advance. Netbook is a Samsung N120 with upgraded RAM to 2 GB. EDIT: So, SideBySide errors have been resolved and apparently the BSOD isn't related. But I remember specifically, that last time I had a BSOD, it was due to an "unknown hard error." What causes that?

    In our small office we are currently running a standalone tower server with WS 2008 R2, SQL Express and IIS. This server is going to be decommissioned and scrapped as its old and very noisy. We are going to purchase a new server with WS 2012 Standard and a heap of ram. It will still be a standalone server so it will be a domain controller, have SQL Express and IIS installed. We intend to install the hyper-v role and host a second virtual server to distribute the load. We are a small company and have only 15 staff members so its not a huge load on the server. Can a single server handle this type of installation, we don't want to purchase two servers. If so how should it be configured with regard to which software packages should be virtualized(if any). Redundancy is not a huge issue for us.

    I've been backing up my Vista box using Complete PC backup for quite a while now, and I was just wondering how it is that you remove old backups when your backup drive is to full for another backup. I recently received the following error: The backup did not complete successfully. An error occurred. The following information might help you resolve the error: There is not enough space to save the backup files. Free up disk space or change your backup settings. (0x81000005) I don't see anything in the settings for the backup to change this. Do I have to mount the backup to delete an old backup? If so where is that file located?     I'd like to use window server 2012 VPN on a AWS VPC EC2 instance. The VPC has one public subnet and the EC2 instance has one network adapter. I've taken the following steps, but have been unsuccessful; am I missing a step or configuration? Thanks. Configured an elastic IP for the VPC Enabled protocols 47, 50, & 51 Added the RRAS role to the (EC2 instance) server Configured the RRAS for vpn only. Note: I'm able to RDP to the EC2 instance, but not able to ping the external IP.

  • Trouble configuring firewall for FTP on Windows Server 2008 R2

    Ok, I'm having the exact same problem as in this question http://serverfault.com/questions/59635/outbound-ftp-on-server-2008-r2-stalls but the accepted answer didn't help me much... I followed the third step of this http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/309/configuring-ftp-firewall-settings/ guide in order to configure my firewall for FTP, and I am able to authenticate, however, the data channel doesn't seem to be passing through the firewall. If I disable the firewall, everything works fine. Hope someone can help me, as this is really starting to annoy me. Best regards, x3ro

    I've brought Vista Ultimate DVD from my friend, there was a .iso file. I extracted them and found two files(there was some boot files too) : boot.wim install.wim I extracted the boot.wim with WinMount. But I can't extracting the install.wim Should I Burn the whole files(extracted and past files) into a DVD Or, Should I try to extract the install.wim ???? I searched Google, some forums and websites said that the setup.exe can extract the install.wim before starting the Installation.(I found the setup.exe after extracting the boot.wim)

    Quick question: I have a situation where I need to let multiple people on different PCs log into one server 2008 machine as administrator simultaneously over remote desktop. I have the CALs for it, it's just not set up correctly. When one user tries to log in, it boots the other out. What I need is to present to them a different session, just each as logged in as admin.   • Recovered all previous data of partition in Windows

    My whole drive data is lost because I installed ubuntu. After that, I formatted my Laptop and make new drives. in which, one partition is cant accessible because its a raw partition. I recovered some data from that partition using iCare Recovery Software. Then, I fully format that partition, and I put data in that place. I remove all files from that. My problem is that I want to recover my data which is deleted because of ubuntu.. I can recover the most recent data from iCare Recovery, but i cannot recover previous data.. Please, help me for that. I am trying this from many days. Thanks
