  • ASP.NET Ajax Error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException

    - by Phil Bennett
My website has been giving me intermittent errors when trying to perform any Ajax activities. The message I get is Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled. Details: Error parsing near ' So its obviously some sort of server timeout or the server's just returning back mangled garbage. This generally, unfortunately not always, happens when the site has been idle for a while. Anybody else been able to overcome this? Thanks

  • Getting value from a texbox in asp.net

    - by user279521
Hi, I have a web page which contains multiple panels (used to show and hide various textboxes) and one particular panel contains textboxes that is used to edit records. However, when I am attemtping to update the table, the txtVendorID.Text.Trim() is blank. SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(strConn); string sqlUpdateVendor = "usp_Vendor_Update"; SqlCommand cmdUpdateVendor = new SqlCommand(sqlUpdateVendor, con); cmdUpdateVendor.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmdUpdateVendor.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@RecID", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50)); cmdUpdateVendor.Parameters["@RecID"].Value = Request.QueryString["Rec_ID"]; cmdUpdateVendor.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@empid", SqlDbType.VarChar, 11)); cmdUpdateVendor.Parameters["@empid"].Value = txtEmpIDNumber.Text.Trim(); cmdUpdateVendor.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@VendorName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100)); cmdUpdateVendor.Parameters["@VendorName"].Value = txtVendorName.Text.Trim(); Any idea why the textbox does not contain a value?

  • ASP .NET - What's going on behind an Eval() ?

    - by Amokrane
Hi, I'm trying to understand how Eval() works for a specific purpose. I'm working on a project I don't really know and I need to read some data and put them in drop down list. These data are already read and are displayed inside an ItemTemplate. I noticed there are read using the Eval() method. Something like: <ItemTemplate> <a href="...=<%# Eval("foo") %>></a> </ItemTemplate> I need to know where Eval is getting these data from in order to discover where I should read them for my drop down list! But I didn't really understand how it works! I know that Eval() evaluates data binding expressions at runtime but where do you think I should take a look at? Thank you

  • Unit testing a controller in ASP.NET MVC 3

    - by Abdullah Al- Mansur
public Double Invert(Double? id) { return (Double)(id / id); } I have done this for this test but fails please can anyone help with this cos just started with unit testing /* HINT: Remember that you are passing Invert an *integer* so * the value of 1 / input is calculated using integer arithmetic. * */ //Arrange var controller = new UrlParameterController(); int input = 7; Double expected = 0.143d; Double marginOfError = 0.001d; //Act var result = controller.Invert(input); //Assert Assert.AreEqual(expected, result, marginOfError); /* NOTE This time we use a different Assert.AreEqual() method, which * checks whether or not two Double values are within a specified * distance of one another. This is a good way to deal with rounding * errors from floating point arithmetic. Without the marginOfError * parameter the assertion fails. * */

  • Saving ntext data from SQL Server to file directory using asp

    - by April
A variety of files (pdf, images, etc.) are stored in a ntext field on a MS SQL Server. I am not sure what type is in this field, other than it shows question marks and undefined characters, I am assuming they are binary type. The script is supposed to iterate through the rows and extract and save these files to a temp directory. "filename" and "contenttype" are given, and "data" is whatever is in the ntext field. I have tried several solutions: 1) data.SaveToFile "/temp/"&filename, 2 Error: Object required: '????????????????????' ??? 2) File.WriteAllBytes "/temp/"&filename, data Error: Object required: 'File' I have no idea how to import this, or the Server for MapPath. (Cue: what a noob!) 3) Const adTypeBinary = 1 Const adSaveCreateOverWrite = 2 Dim BinaryStream Set BinaryStream = CreateObject("ADODB.Stream") BinaryStream.Type = adTypeBinary BinaryStream.Open BinaryStream.Write data BinaryStream.SaveToFile "C:\temp\" & filename, adSaveCreateOverWrite Error: Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another. 4) Response.ContentType = contenttype Response.AddHeader "content-disposition","attachment;" & filename Response.BinaryWrite data response.end This works, but the file should be saving to the server instead of popping up save-as dialog. I am not sure if there is a way to save the response to file. Thanks for shedding light on any of these problems!

  • How to page multiple data sets in ASP.NET MVC

    - by REA_ANDREW
On a single view I will have three sets of paged data. Which means for each model I will have The Objects The Page Index The Page Size My initial thought was for example: public class PagedModel<T> where T:class { public IList<T> Objects { get; set; } public int ModelPageIndex { get; set; } public int ModelPageSize { get; set; } } Then having a model which is to be supplied to the action as for example: public class TypesViewModel { public PagedModel<ObjectA> Types1 { get; set; } public PagedModel<ObjectB> Typed2 { get; set; } public PagedModel<ObjectC> Types3 { get; set; } } So if I then for example have the Index view inherit from the type: System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<uk.co.andrewrea.forum.Web.Models.TypesViewModel> Now my initial aciton method for the index is simply: public ActionResult Index() { var forDisplayPurposes = new TypesViewModel(); return View(forDisplayPurposes); } If I then want to page, it is here where I am struggling to decide which action to take. Lets say that I select the next page of the Types2 PageModel. What should the action look like for this in order to return the new view showing the second page of the Types2 PageModel I was thinking possibly to duplicate the action but use it with POST [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Index(TypesViewModel model) { return View(model); } Is this a good way to approach it. I understand there is always Session, but I was just wondering how such a thing is achieved currently out there. If any best methods have been mutually accepted and things. So simply, one page with multiple paged models. How to persist the data for each using a wrapper model. Which way should you pass in the model and which way should you page the data, i.e. Form Post Lastly, I have seen the routes take this into account i.e. {controller}/{action}/{id}/{pageindex}/{pagesize} but this only accounts for one model and I do not really wwant to repeat the pagesize and pageindex values for the number of models I have inside the wrapper model. Thanks for your time!! Andrew

  • in .net, what programming model would be good for prototyping, but then reusable for production (for

    - by Greg
Hi, In .NET land what would be a good approach for quick prototyping of a concept (i.e. development just on my PC) that could then be extended out to product (users across LAN/WAN), BUT in a fashion that the model/business logic code and data access layer code can be used as is? One thought for example I had as to do: (a) WinForms with business logic and Entity Framework layer to SQL Server Express on my PC, then (b) Go then to ASP.net (using the business logic / data library) with SQL Server/IIS Any comments? Other suggestions?

  • Forcing A Postback Asp.Net

    - by Nick LaMarca
Please take a look at the following click event... Protected Sub btnDownloadEmpl_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDownloadEmpl.Click Dim emplTable As DataTable = SiteAccess.DownloadEmployee_H() Dim d As String = Format(Date. Now, "d") Dim ad() As String = d.Split("/") Dim fd As String = ad(0) & ad(1) Dim fn As String = "E_" & fd & ".csv" Response.ContentType = "text/csv" Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" & fn) CreateCSVFile(emplTable, Response.Output) Response.Flush() Response.End() lblEmpl.Visible = True End Sub This code simply exports data from a datatable to a csv file. The problem here is lblEmpl.Visible=true never gets hit because this code doesnt cause a postback to the server. Even if I put the line of code lblEmpl.Visible=true at the top of the click event the line executes fine, but the page is never updated. How can I fix this?

  • .Net in HTML tp return true if reader object not null, otherwise return false

    - by Phill Healey
I'm using a DataList to show some data from the database and populating the fields on the html side. I now have a requirement to change the visibility of a panel based on whether or not a db field has data or not. I need to be able to show the panel if the relevant data field has content, and hide it if it doesn't. Eg: <asp:Panel ID="pnlNew" runat="server" Style="margin:0; padding:0; width:42px; height:18px; bottom:5px; right:10px; float:right; position:relative; background:url(../_imgVideoBadge.png) no-repeat;" Visible='<%# Eval("cheese") != null %>' ToolTip="available"></asp:Panel> Obviously this doesn't work in terms of the visible property. But hopefully it gives an idea of what I'm trying to achieve. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've seen examples previously of doing something along the lines of: a ?? b:c How could this be applied to the above requirement?? Thanks in advance.

  • .NET application with an Oracle Database

    - by Pavitar
I have to code a desktop application and some dynamic web content. I'm planning to develop it in .NET with an Oracle database, though my dilemma is that my professor says that if I do so, there would be a lot of support issues later on. He says .NET is more compatible with MS SQL and MS Access, and so is the trend, everyone does it.Is it true? I have learnt Oracle so I know of a few features which I wouldn't be able to implement on SQL comfortably because of lack of knowledge of SQL databases.I would love to learn the new syntax but again, I don't have much time to spare.

I am trying to connect to oracle database. I am able to connect to it through a local SQL Developer tool by sticking something in the oranames.tns file.
