  • How do I write raw binary data in Python?

    I've got a Python program that stores and writes data to a file. The data is raw binary data, stored internally as str. I'm writing it out through a utf-8 codec. However, I get UnicodeDecodeError: 'charmap' codec can't decode byte 0x8d in position 25: character maps to <undefined> in the cp1252.py file. This looks to me like Python is trying to interpret the data using the default code page. But it doesn't have a default code page. That's why I'm using str, not unicode. I guess my questions are: How do I represent raw binary data in memory, in Python? When I'm writing raw binary data out through a codec, how do I encode/unencode it?

    I have a Windows CE console application that's entry point looks like this int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) I want to check the contents of argv[1] for "-s" convert argv[2] into an integer. I am having trouble narrowing the arguments or accessing them to test. I initially tried the following with little success if (argv[1] == L"-s") I also tried using the narrow function of wostringstream on each character but this crashed the application. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks

    I have a reoccurring issue where a customer calls up and complains that the web site is too slow. Specifically, if they are inactive for a short period of time, then go back to the site, there will be a minute-two minute delay before the user sees a response. (the standard browser is Firefox in this case) I have Perfmon up and running, the cpu utilization is usually below 20% (single proc...don't ask). The database is humming along. And I'm pulling my hair out. So, what metrics/tools do you find useful when evaluating IIS performance?

  • Cross-Application User Authentication

    We have a webapp written in .NET that uses NTLM for SSO. We are writing a new webapp in Java that will tightly integrate with the original application. Unfortunately, Java has no support for performing the server portion of NTLM authentication and the only library that I can find requires too much setup to be allowed by IT. To work around this, I came up with a remote authentication scheme to work across applications and would like your opinions on it. It does not need to be extremely secure, but at the same time not easily be broken. User is authenticated into .NET application using NTLM User clicks link that leaves .NET application .NET application generates random number and stores it in the user table along with the user's full username (domain\username) Insecure token is formed as random number:username Insecure token is run through secure cipher (likely AES-256) using pre-shared key stored within the application to produce a secure token The secure token is passed as part of the query string to the Java application The Java application decrypts the secure key using the same pre-shared key stored within its own code to get the insecure token The random number and username are split apart The username is used to retrieve the user's information from the user table and the stored random number is checked against the one pulled from the insecure token If the numbers match, the username is put into the session for the user and they are now authenticated If the numbers do not match, the user is redirected to the .NET application's home page The random number is removed from the database

  • RSpec setup for an application that depends on an external database from another application.

    I've had to add features to an application that depends on a database from another application. I've been able to set up a connection to this external database and pull data from it. However, I'm not sure how to get my main application to create a test database for this external application. It would be awesome if there some way to pull in the schema for this database and create it in the same manner that 'rake db:test:prepare' does. Is there any configuration capabilities for RSpec to do this, or will I have to roll my own task?

  • Best practice for near reuse of model components?

    I have a requirement to use a Fund model in my code. It will contain a fund name and fund code. In the interest of reuse I've poked around the package containing the other models used and found an existing Fund model. However the issue here is that, in addition to fund name and code, it also contains an amount. Amount isn't directly relevant in my context. So, do I: 1) Use the existing Fund model as is, ignoring the setters/getters for fund amount. 2) Put a FundDescription interface onto the existing Fund model for accessing only the information I'm interested in. 3) Make a FundDescription base class from which the existing Fund model could now extend 4) Create a whole new seperate model since the two are slightly contextually different

    I have a many-to-one relationship that users can edit via checkboxes. PK of Foo is ID, and fid contains the id from the checkbox.     I'd like to build the olb3d library with my visual studio 2005 compiler but this failes due to template errors. To be more specific, the following expression seem to be a problem: void function(T u[Lattice::d]) On the website of the project is stated that prpably my compiler is not capable of such complicated template expressions - one should use the gcc 3.4.1. My question is now if there is a way to upgrade my vs c++ compiler so it can handle template expressions on the level as the gcc 3.4.1? Maybe it helps if I get a newer version of visual studio? But it doesn't work. var x = document.createElement(""); var spn=document.createElement("span"); spn.appendChild(x); x.checked=true; document.body.appendChild(spn); I found that I could put x.checked=true after appendChild statement to make it work. I also noticed that when I change "radio" to "checkbox", it can be checked without changing the order of statements. I am really confused by these facts. But using browse nodes from different sites I get the following error: "569604 is not a valid value for BrowseNodeId. Please change this value and retry your request."     I have a bunch of CGPoints from a CCTMXLayer I want to save to NSUserDefaults but cannot seem to figure out an elegant way of doing so. Originally I was hoping to save an NSDictionary with an NSMutableSet for a value containing several NSValues (valueWithCGPoint). From what I can tell neither NSMutableSet or NSValue is supported by NSUserDefaults. At this point I am considering saving the x&y values of the CGPoint as a string and just converting it back and forth as needed.

  • Stop jQuery animations stacking

    I have an Options box that hovers in the top right of the webpage. It's opacity is set to 10% so as not to be obstructive to users. When they hover over (mouseenter) it I use jQuery to fade it in and slidedown the content (and the reverse on mouseout). If they do this repeatedly though the animation stacks up and you can sometimes be left in a situation where your mouse is stood still but the box is yo-yoing around. How can I get around this situation? Here is how I currently setup the animations $("#dropdown").mouseenter(function() { $(this).fadeTo('fast',1); $("#options").slideDown(); }); $("#dropdown").mouseleave(function() { $(this).fadeTo('fast',0.1); $("#options").slideUp(); }); Note I am using jQuery only and not any other plugins.

    Hi, I'm working on an embedded system, and i'm having dramas getting it to send a certain chunk of data across the serial port. I narrowed it down and found that if a 0x9B is present in the message, it corrupts the message. So i then look up 0x9b (155) on http://www.asciitable.com/, and it's missing! Isn't that a bizarre coincidence! Any ideas, is this a special character or something?

  • Preventing a child process (HandbrakeCLI) from causing the parent script to exit

    I have a batch conversion script to turn .mkvs of various dimensions into ipod/iphone sized .mp4s, cropping/scaling to suit. Determining the original dimensions, required crop, output file is all working fine. However, on successful completion of the first conversion, HandbrakeCLI causes the parent script to exit.   • mysql_query arguments in PHP

    I'm currently building my first database in MySQL with an interface written in PHP and am using the 'learn-by-doing' approach. The figure below illustrates my database. Table names are at the top, and the attribute names are as they appear in the real database. I am attempting to query the values of each of these attributes using the code seen below the table. I think there is something wrong with my mysql_query() function since I am able to observe the expected behaviour when my form is successfully submitted, but no search results are returned. Can anyone see where I'm going wrong here?   • iPhone SDK: Check validity of URLs with NSURL not working??

    hi, I'm trying to check if a given URL is valid and i'm doing it like this: - (BOOL)urlIsValid:(NSString *)address { NSURL *testURL = [NSURL URLWithString:address]; if (testURL == nil) { return NO; } else { return YES; } } Since "URLWithString" is supposed to return "nil" if the URL is malformed I thought this would work but it doesn't for some reason. Could someone please tell me why? Thanks in advance!
