  • getting the name of the calling method

    - by zeocrash
Basically i've got a web service that i'm trying to put some kind of usage logging in. To do this i've created a class with a logging method. I instatiate the class on the service and then call the logging method in each of the web methods. I'm trying to find a way of getting the name of the method that has called the loggong method Public sub tstmethod log_object.log_method end sub in this case the returned name i'm looking for is "tstmethod" Everywhere i've seen has said to either use Dim stackframe As New Diagnostics.StackFrame Return stackframe.GetMethod.Name.ToString Or to use Dim stackframe As New Diagnostics.StackFrame Return stackframe.GetMethod.DeclaringType.FullName which i call inside the logging method getmethod.name.tostring returns the name of the logging method getmethod.declaringtype.fullname returns the name of the logging class no matter what i do i cannot find a way of getting the name of the method that called the logging method in this case "tstmethod"

  • Disable proxy for entire application?

    - by Brent
Ever since upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, I'm running into an issue where the first web request of any type (WebRequest, WebClient, etc.) hangs for about 20 seconds before completing. Subsequent calls work quickly. I've narrowed down the problem to a proxy issue. If I manually disable proxy settings, I don't experience this delay: Dim wrq As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create(Url) wrq.Proxy = Nothing What's strange is that there are no proxy settings enabled on this machine in Internet Options. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to disable proxy settings for my entire project in one shot without explicitly disabling as above for every web object. The main reason I want to be able to do this is that I'm trying to use an API (http://code.google.com/p/google-api-for-dotnet/) which uses web requests, but does not provide any way to manually disable proxy settings. I have found some information suggesting that I need to add some proxy information to the app.config file, but I get errors building my program if I make an edits to that file. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  • Which cross threading invoke function is better for a control that is inherited?

    - by Stevoni
I have a relatively simple question regarding the best way to call the DataGridView.Rows.Add function when it is inherited into the current control. Which is the best way to make the call to the inherited control? Call it directly in the invoke or call it using recursive-like function? They both seem to produce the same result, a row gets added and the quantity is returned, but which is the most efficient? The delegate: Private Delegate Function ReturnDelegate() As Object The two ways are: A) Private Overloads Function AddRow() As Integer If InvokeRequired Then Return CInt(Invoke(New ReturnDelegate(AddressOf AddRow))) Else Return Rows.Add() End If End Function Or B) Private Function RowsAdd() As Integer If Me.InvokeRequired Then Return CInt(Me.Invoke(New ReturnDelegate(AddressOf MyBase.Rows.Add))) Else Return MyBase.Rows.Add End If End Function

  • Strategy for converting a VB6 app to .NET

    - by Craig Johnston
Would it be a good idea to start converting forms into .NET one at a time which you would then invoke from the VB6 app via COM-interop. This way, by the end of the process you would just convert the 'shell' of the VB6 application into a new .NET app, and all your forms are ready to go in .NET. Is there a better strategy?

  • How can we expose a .NET public const to COM interop

    - by JulienC
For historical reasons, we need to expose string constants in .NET through COM interface. We managed to expose ENUM but we can't find a way to expose string const. We try the following code : <ComClass(ComClass1.ClassId, ComClass1.InterfaceId, ComClass1.EventsId)> _ Public Class ComClass1 #Region "COM GUIDs" ' These GUIDs provide the COM identity for this class ' and its COM interfaces. If you change them, existing ' clients will no longer be able to access the class. Public Const ClassId As String = "608c6545-977e-4260-a3cf-11545c82906a" Public Const InterfaceId As String = "12b8a6c7-e7f6-4022-becd-2efd8b3a756e" Public Const EventsId As String = "05a2856f-d877-4673-8ea8-20f5a9f268d5" #End Region ' A creatable COM class must have a Public Sub New() ' with no parameters, otherwise, the class will not be ' registered in the COM registry and cannot be created ' via CreateObject. Public Sub New() MyBase.New() End Sub Public Const chaine As String = "TEST" Public Sub Method() End Sub End Class But when we look on the OLE object viewer, we only see the method. See ScreenShot: screenshot of OLE viewer Anyone have an idea ? Thanks,

  • Regex for extracting second level domain from FQDN?

    - by Bob
I can't figure this out. I need to extract the second level domain from a FQDN. For example, all of these need to return "example.com": example.com foo.example.com bar.foo.example.com example.com:8080 foo.example.com:8080 bar.foo.example.com:8080 Here's what I have so far: Dim host = Request.Headers("Host") Dim pattern As String = "(?<hostname>(\w+)).(?<domainname>(\w+.\w+))" Dim theMatch = Regex.Match(host, pattern) ViewData("Message") = "Domain is: " + theMatch.Groups("domainname").ToString It fails for example.com:8080 and bar.foo.example.com:8080. Any ideas?

  • What does the "ApplicaionDirectory" Membership condition mean in .NET Code Access Security?

    - by smwikipedia
I am not sure about the semantic of "ApplicationDirectory" membership condition. I am trying to use it in the .NET Framework 2.0 configuration tool. The tool's explanation to it is as below: The Application Directory membership condition is true for all assemblies in the same directory or in a child directory of the running application. Assemblies that meet this membership condition will be granted the permissions associated with this code group. All the other membership conditions such as strong name, hash, need me to input some criterias, only the Application Directory has not. How to use it? Could someone give an explanation by example? Many thanks.

  • label backgrond flicking on a WinForms user control has background image enabled

    - by slowlycooked
I am working on a windows form project and having some problem with UserControl Double Buffering. I created a usercontrol and has a background image, then on top of it I have few radio buttons and labels. Radio buttons and labels are all having transparent background as color. However, when I show and hide the User control, I can see the flickering on those labels and radio buttons that has transparent background. And I tried Me.SetStyle(ControlStyles.DoubleBuffer _ Or ControlStyles.AllPaintingInWmPaint _ Or ControlStyles.UserPaint _ Or ControlStyles.SupportsTransparentBackColor, _ True) After initializeComponent() to enable double buffer on this user control, but it doesn’t seem to work.

  • Delegates and ParamArray - Workaround Suggestions?

    - by M.A. Hanin
Some predefined methods contain a ParamArray in their signature. Delegates, however, cannot contain a ParamArray in their signature. Main question: Assume you wish to create a delegation mechanism for a specific method which requires a ParamArray. How would you work around this constraint? "Bonus" question: Assume you wish to create a generalized delegation mechanism for all methods which require ParamArray, how would you do that?

  • LB_SETTABSTOPS does not appear to affect a CheckedListBox

    - by BP
I am trying to set tab stops in a CheckedListBox in my WinForms application, but no matter what I do, it does not seem to have any effect. I have the following in the code for my form: <DllImport("user32.dll")> _ Public Sub SendMessage(ByVal hWnd As IntPtr, ByVal uMsg As Int32, ByVal wParam As Int32, ByRef lParam As Int32) End Sub Public Const LB_SETTABSTOPS As Int32 = &H192 And in the form's load method, I am doing the following, where theList is my CheckedListBox: Dim tabStops() As Integer = {40, 140, 240} Call SendMessage(theList.Handle, LB_SETTABSTOPS, tabStops.Length, tabStops(0)) theList.Refresh() And then later on, I use this in a loop, where col1 through col4 are all string values for the columns: theList.Items.Add(col1 & vbTab & col2 & vbTab & col3 & vbTab & col4) But no matter what I use for the values of tabStops, the list is formatted with standard width tab stops.

  • Database not updating after UPDATE SQL statement in ASP.net

    - by Ronnie
I currently have a problem attepting to update a record within my database. I have a webpage that displays in text boxes a users details, these details are taken from the session upon login. The aim is to update the details when the user overwrites the current text in the text boxes. I have a function that runs when the user clicks the 'Save Details' button and it appears to work, as i have tested for number of rows affected and it outputs 1. However, when checking the database, the record has not been updated and I am unsure as to why. I've have checked the SQL statement that is being processed by displaying it as a label and it looks as so: UPDATE [users] SET [email]=@email, [firstname]=@firstname, [lastname]=@lastname, [promo]=@promo WHERE ([users].[user_id] = 16) The function and other relevant code is: Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) changeDetails(emailBox.text, firstBox.text, lastBox.text, promoBox.text) End Sub Function changeDetails(ByVal email As String, ByVal firstname As String, ByVal lastname As String, ByVal promo As String) As Integer Dim connectionString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Ole DB Services=-4; Data Source=C:\Documents an"& _ "d Settings\Paul Jarratt\My Documents\ticketoffice\datab\ticketoffice.mdb" Dim dbConnection As System.Data.IDbConnection = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(connectionString) Dim queryString As String = "UPDATE [users] SET [email]=@email, [firstname]=@firstname, [lastname]=@lastname, "& _ "[promo]=@promo WHERE ([users].[user_id] = " + session.contents.item("ID") + ")" Dim dbCommand As System.Data.IDbCommand = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand dbCommand.CommandText = queryString dbCommand.Connection = dbConnection Dim dbParam_email As System.Data.IDataParameter = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbParameter dbParam_email.ParameterName = "@email" dbParam_email.Value = email dbParam_email.DbType = System.Data.DbType.[String] dbCommand.Parameters.Add(dbParam_email) Dim dbParam_firstname As System.Data.IDataParameter = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbParameter dbParam_firstname.ParameterName = "@firstname" dbParam_firstname.Value = firstname dbParam_firstname.DbType = System.Data.DbType.[String] dbCommand.Parameters.Add(dbParam_firstname) Dim dbParam_lastname As System.Data.IDataParameter = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbParameter dbParam_lastname.ParameterName = "@lastname" dbParam_lastname.Value = lastname dbParam_lastname.DbType = System.Data.DbType.[String] dbCommand.Parameters.Add(dbParam_lastname) Dim dbParam_promo As System.Data.IDataParameter = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbParameter dbParam_promo.ParameterName = "@promo" dbParam_promo.Value = promo dbParam_promo.DbType = System.Data.DbType.[String] dbCommand.Parameters.Add(dbParam_promo) Dim rowsAffected As Integer = 0 dbConnection.Open Try rowsAffected = dbCommand.ExecuteNonQuery Finally dbConnection.Close End Try labelTest.text = rowsAffected.ToString() if rowsAffected = 1 then labelSuccess.text = "* Your details have been updated and saved" else labelError.text = "* Your details could not be updated" end if End Function Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Guessess of my session value conflicts

    - by SmartestVEGA
I have a asp.net web form which will submit information to come as emails. Whenever user fill the form and click on submit button, the information user entered will be sent as email. This web form has 4 page. but the web form will not use all 4 page on all requests. if the user select a particular value in first page, the form will bypass the 3rd page and go the last 4th page(like...page1,2,4). IF it is any other values selected in the first page. form will navigate as page1,2,3,4. So now my problem is when multiple users access the same website, the value in the first page get combines from different users and the form will act abnormally.Sometime it will bypass sometimes it will not bypass the page3 Show below is the variable decalrations: Public strRoleType As String = String.Empty Protected Shared isAreaSelected As Integer = 0 Protected Shared isStoreSelected As Integer = 0 Protected Shared isHeadOfficeSelected As Integer = 0 Protected Shared isRegionSelected As Integer = 0 I guess the problem is with strRoleType variable whether it is getting values from different users. Do any have any work around?

  • iTextSharp Conversion from Table to pdfPTable

    - by Al.
I have an old ASP.NET project originally done in ASP.NET 1.1 w/ iText.NET and converted to .NET 2.0 and iTextSharp 4.1.6.0. It uses lots of Table (I'm assuming pdfptable wasn't an option at the time it was created.) I am trying to convert this code to use the latest iTextSharp 5.0.0 dll and now see Table and cell have been removed. I started converting it anyway and soon found there is no equivalent to a lot of the functionality that Table offered. Mainly AddCell no longer allows a col,row setting. There are literally thousands of these calls in this code and the posibility of changing it to generate linearly row by row looks hopeless at the moment. The current code looks something like: Dim myTable As New Table(NumReq + 2, IngDS.Tables(0).Rows.Count + 3) myTable.SetWidths(Width) myTable.Width = 100 myTable.Padding = 2 myCell = New Cell(New Phrase("Some Text", New iTextSharp.text.Font(iTextSharp.text.Font.HELVETICA, 8, iTextSharp.text.Font.NORMAL, iTextSharp.text.Color.BLACK))) myCell.SetHorizontalAlignment(Element.ALIGN_RIGHT) myCell.GrayFill = 0.75 myTable.AddCell(myCell, Row, Col) myCell = New Cell(New Phrase("Other Text",New iTextSharp.text.Font(iTextSharp.text.Font.HELVETICA, 8, iTextSharp.text.Font.NORMAL, iTextSharp.text.Color.BLACK))) myCell.GrayFill = 0.75 myTable.AddCell(myCell, Row, Col+1) Before I embark down that road I was hoping someone would be able to point me in a direction that I'm just totally missing that will make this conversion much more simple. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • How to get MinValue/MaxValue of a certain ValueType via reflection?

    - by marco.ragogna
I need to this at runtime. I checked using Reflector and value types line like Int16, for example, should contain <Serializable, StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential), ComVisible(True)> _ Public Structure Int16 Implements IComparable, IFormattable, IConvertible, IComparable(Of Short), IEquatable(Of Short) Public Const MaxValue As Short = &H7FFF Public Const MinValue As Short = -32768 End Structure But the following code is not working Dim dummyValue = Activator.CreateInstance(GetType(UInt16)) Dim minValue As IComparable = DirectCast(dummyValue.GetType.GetProperty("MinValue").GetValue(dummyValue, Nothing), IComparable) any idea how to solve?

  • conversion of a varchar to a smalldatetime results in an out-of-range value

    - by michael
The code: strSql = "insert into table2 (transactiondate) values ('" & transactiondate & "')" seems to be giving me the runtime error: The conversion of a varchar data type to a smalldatetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value In the code, strSql is a String object and transactiondate is a Date object. In the SQL database however, transactiondate is a smalldatetime object. I've tried changing the smalldatetime to a datetime (in the database) and I've tried transactiondate.toString() but with no success. How can this be fixed? Note: I know about the dangers of inline SQL. I am looking for a quick fix solution here and not a discussion about SQL injection.
