• Excel - working in a bank

  I am supposed to go to an interview to a bank for just supporting managers in projects. It's a part-time job and the thing is that bank uses Excel for everything. Modifications of tables of really lot of data... What can I expect to find in the test of Excel? I have some books that are around 1000 pages thick but I don't have time and also don't feel like reading everything that's in them. • Excel Extending Equations

  So I have an excel table that is multiply 1 value against several other values. It looks like this: So I want the equations inside cells C14 to F14 to be B14*C5, B14*C6, B14*C7, B14*C8 respectively. So I can obviously do that manually but I want to learn the faster way. So I know I should use absolute reference for B14, so I can input =$B$14*C5 for cell C14. But then when I do the CTRL extend method where you put the cursor on the bottom right corner of the cell and hold CTRL while you extend the cells. The problem is since I am extending the equation in B14 horizontally to F14, it is incrementing the equation horizontally. So the equation in D14 becomes =$B$14*D5 instead of =$B$14*C6. So how exactly do I increment the equation downwards while I extend the equation horizontally?

• standard deviation on excel

  so I have 3 data sets, which all came from the first data set using the excel program. all consisted of random numbers from =randbetween(0,100) starting from A2:A102 which is 100 integers. for data set b I had to enter=SUM(A2+5) press enter and drag it down to get the integers for cells B2:B102 and for C I had to do multiplication t get it. I did =PRODUCT(A2:A102*5). so everything was taken from data set A. now I did the formulas needed to do sample standard dev and mean(average) . for data set a and b the standard deviations were the same but the mean was larger in data set B of course because I added 5 to each cell in set A. my question is why wouldn't the standard deviation be the same for data set C also? if im using the info from data set A? and how do I calculate the standard deviation (sample) by hand so I can explain why the standard dev doesn't change but the mean does. I don't know what numbers to include in the formula for sample standard deviation.

  I want to use excel to compare pairs of numbers from the "Pre/Post" column of the following data: Student Course Pre/Post Score K300997203 FHS120100417 Pre 3 L286197217 FHS120100417 Pre 5 S106497203 FHS120100417 Pre 4 K300997203 FHS120100417 Post 4 L286197217 FHS120100417 Post 4 S106497203 FHS120100417 Post 4 S106497203 FHS220100424 Pre 4 Specifically, I want a cell to contain the difference of the value in the "Score" column where "Pre" and "Post" appear, respectively, in rows with the same value in the "Student" and "Course" columns. For example, Student K300997203 has a row containing Course FHS120100417, a score of 3, and "Pre" AND Student K300997203 has a row containing Course FHS120100417, a score of 4, and "Post". How can I calculate a cell value as the score in the row containing "Post" minus the score in the row containing "Pre"?

• API server not function ["The connection has been reset"]

  I'm having some troubles with one of my servers. I've done an application with two servers, one the frontend that grabs the data of server API (Ubuntu server). Well, yesterday had a lot of visits and the API server stop functioning but: -I can do stuff in MySQL by SSH. -The memory usage is ok. -The logs are ok. -The bandwitch usage is ok. -If i restart the server or Apache2, function by some time (3-4 minutes). And the most important i think if i tries to access to API (Is rest-style with http) it puts me the Firefox error "The connection has been reset". I'd tried: -Restart the server -Restart Apache2 -Restart MySQL -Viewed the logs of Apache2/MySQL I don't know too much about systems so i don't know what to do more.

  I need to process an SVN working copy in a PS script, but I have trouble passing arguments to functions. Here's what I have: function foo($arg1, $arg2) { echo $arg1 echo $arg2.FullName } echo "0: $($args[0])" echo "1: $($args[1])" $items = get-childitem $args[1] $items | foreach-object -process {foo $args[0] $_} I want to pass $arg[0] as $arg1 to foo, and $arg[1] as $arg2. • In which order does Excel process its formulae?

  I've got a fairly large spreadsheet with major calculations going on, and it's starting to slow down every time a value that's part of a calculated field is modified. I'm in the process of optimizing the file, adding arrays where I can, and seeing where I can shave off a few milliseconds here and there. Let's say there's data in Columns A-H. Column H is set based on relationships between values in Columns A, B and C, which change dynamically from an outside program. Users enter the data in Column F. Formulas in D & E calculate relationships between F & H and H & D, respectively. How does Excel manage formulae in the case, for instance, where they're dependent on data further into the sheet? Will my value in H be available the first time that the formulae in D & E calculate? or, will D & E calculate based on an old value for H, because H's update hasn't happened yet? Are there any efficiencies to be gained by positioning dependencies in particular rows or columns in the speadsheet? Do positions above and left the current position get processed sooner than things below and to the right?

• Nested IF statement on Google Spreadsheet, second part same as the first [migrated]

  I have a spreadsheet for my budget. Payments are either drawn from my bank or my Amex card and then my Amex card is drawn from my bank as well. So I add up all my monthly total like this: =sumif(I3:I20,"<>AMEX",D3:D20) Where I3:I20 = account bill is paid from and D3:D20 is monthly amount due. So I am not including bills that come from my Amex card in the total since the Amex bill itself covers those. Next I have a column that has the day of the month 1-10 (when everything gets paid) and it does this: =sumif(H3:H20,E24:E33,D3:D20) Where H3:H20 = date bill is paid and E25:E35 = range from 1-10. What I want to do is make this second part do the same check as the first. Something like this: =sumif(H3:H19,E24:E33,IF(I3:I19"<>SPG",D3:D19,0)) But I get error: "Parse error" What am I doing wrong?

• Vlookup using wildcards in indexed column

  I know how to use a wildcard with Vlookup on the reference value, but what about on the matched column index? I know you can do for instance VLOOKUP("*Hello*",A4:G4,2,FALSE) However, what if you wanted to match a cell that is "Hello", with another one that is "Why, Hello there!" (so the opposite i suppose) My data is set in a way where a macro is going to ask if A4 in workbook 1 matches C2:C25000 in workbook 2 to return the corresponding value in D back to workbook 1. The thought is that when A4 in workbook 1 says Its DHS Here, that I could input a value such as DHS in column C in workbook 2 and have it say its a match. Is this possible?

  I am having extremely long formulas over an extremely big sheet. At the moment I am tracking the formulas with the Formula Auditing Tool. However, my idea would be to just replace for example in a formula like this: =IF(AND(ROUND($GX19-SUM(0)/$M$12;2)<=0;$AK$7=1);0;$M$12*$M$22/$K$62 My idea would be to replace the excel cell names with the table row names they are in. Like: =IF(AND(ROUND( "Income" -SUM(0)/ "Debt" ;2)<=0; "Percentage" =1);0; "Investment" * "Debt of house" / "Investment costs" Is there any way to achive sth. like that in excel? I appreciate your inputs!!!

  I'm comparing two large datasets containing strings in excel. Column A contains the numbers 1-1,000,000. Column B contains 1,000,000 strings, neatly organized in the desired order. Column C contains 100,000 randomly organized strings, that have identical values somewhere in column B. Id like to create an IF test to scan the line for the existence of the pattern in my FIND statement before processing that statement. I figured that looking for an error condition may be the way to go. However, the only way I can envision this is as a self-referential formula, similart to the following pseudocode. IF(ISERROR($L26)=TRUE,$L26=0,L$26=the-result-of-the-formula-above) Can this be done with a formula or do I need to use a new helper column? Thanks.

• Getting data from closed files with concatenate formula

  Each day a program is creating an excel file for me with some data for the current day. Like what is the price for products, how many people are available today and things like that. Based on all this I need to make some forecasts and workplace allocations for workers. The problem is, that I need to drag all this information manually all the time. So to make it automatic I placed the formula in cells like: ='c:\ABC\[ABC 29-01-14.xlsx]sheet'!a1 Everything works fine, but next day I have to change file name for "ABC 30-01-14" for each cell, what is the same as entering the data manually. So I used "concatenate" formula to change date according to today's date automatically. I used "indirect" formula to turn it in to a real formula, not text string, and realized that it is working only for open files, not closed. Is there any way to do this for closed files without VBA, because I don't know it, or with VBA but explained for an idiot.

  I need help with either a formula or a macro to help automate a grade sheets dates. We have class every monday or wednesday only. I would like to vlookup from a input table of each quarters date range (example Sept. 10 - Oct 24 and the code auto insert the date of every monday and wednesday in a row at the top of my grade sheet. Every year I use the same excel workbook I built to average and rate the grading with no problem, however i can't seem to get this one right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Currently I have to enter each date by hand. Thanks Again for any help.

• Excel: link value once, then prevent change

  For some budgeting spreadsheets I'm working on, I'd like to link each month to a value (in this case, a percentage). However, if the original percentage is changed I ONLY want to change values going forward. For example, let's say item one is budgeted at 10%, so each month reflects 10% of the total (which changes every month). If I decide to change that to 12% going forward, I don't want the previously linked values to also change from 10 to 12% (and throw off lots of other numbers). My thought was to have a check box where if I placed an x, the values would be locked to the value at the time of placing the x and no longer change. Is this possible? I know there are options for doing a paste special, but I'm creating this spreadsheet for someone who is not very Excel savvy, so I want it to be as seamless as possible. Many thanks.

• Disable "Ubuntu 14.04" and "Files" from auto sorting alphabetically and THEN<(Disable the then.) automatically going to that location

  I looked about in Ubuntu 14.04 and I could not find a option to disable a feature that made extra work for me. After renaming something "Files" then reorganizes alphanumerically and then automatically moves the prompt/cursor/highlighting to the new file name at the new alphanumerical location. It's much easier and practical if the working cursor remains in the same area where the file was found that needed name changes or needed name spelling corrections. Windows 7 does what I ask about and it's a huge improvement over that auto sort and then go to the new file location. A example to consider is a file is in the "A" area and then you rename it to a "Z" and you are then taken to the "Z" stuff and need to scroll hundreds of lines back to the "A" section. It's annoying.   I am creating a weekly income comparison table. I want to compare A5 and A10 cells and display appropriate image in B7 cell. The image will be either UP or DOWN arrow (which reflects increase or decrease). I've created a formula which puts text up or down in the cell, but I don't know how to replace it with the up/down image. =IF(D77>D69, "up", IF(D77<D69, "down")) How can I do it? I know it's possible. Note: I am using Google Docs Excel, so please let me know if this cannot be done in it, but I have to use the real Excel installed on my laptop.

• Lookups targeting merged cells - only returning value for first row

  I have a master worksheet which contains data that I wish to link to another 'summary' sheet using a lookup. However, some of the cells whose data I wish to include in the summary sheet are merged across two or more adjacent rows. To be clear, the 'primary' column A that I am using in my formula in order to identify the target row does not contain merged cells, but the column from which I wish to return a value does. I have tried VLOOKUP and INDEX+MATCH. The problem is that the data is only returned for the first row's key, and the others return zero (as though the cell in the target column were blank, where actually it is merged). I have tried inelegant ways around this, e.g. using IF statements to try to find the top row of the merged cell. However, these don't work well if the order of values in the summary sheet is different from that in the master sheet, as well as being messy. Can this be done?

• Average Difference and Direction Between Values in Excel with Blanks

  I have a sheet that looks something like this: Sheet 1 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 1 6 2 3 5 3 4 2 4 9 4 5 6 4 6 6 7 5 3 3 3 10 8 4 8 8 9 4 11 12 12 6 10 11 8 5 5 4 9 4 7 6 What I would like to be able to do is find the average difference and direction between values in each column. For example, the first 4 rows would look like: Average Difference # + Movements # -Movements 1 2 2 1 0 3 4 (2+5+5)/3 2 1 Blanks represent N/A values due to insufficient information, and differences are calculated successively i.e. col2-col1, col3-col2, col4-col3 If I just take the differences and make a duplicate table with the formula =C2-B2 copied across issues arise whenever there is a blank space between two values or at the beginning of the row. Is there an easy way to fix this or another way to do this that I might be missing?

  I am building a Pay Rate Calculator worksheet with a Flat/Base pay rate & numerous Overtime pay rates. I would like to be able to have the "Overtime" pay rate cells to change depending on my selection from my drop-down list. My list selections are "Flat Rate" and "Compounding". 1) If I select "Flat Rate" how can I make all the "Overtime" cell rates and totals default to zero or calculate to zero, to show the user there is no overtime rates to be applied to this job and to use the one rate to pay? 2)And if I select "Compounding" the Overtime rate cells are updated to add/include additional fees, to show the user Overtime rates apply to the job and penalties have automatically been calculated on top for them. Please explain like I'm a 2 year old - learning as I go. Many thanks :)
