  I'm writing a portal in PHP that allows users to upload DICOM images, and allow users of the same group to view those DICOM images through a Java Applet. The html code to display images through the viewer looks like this: <APPLET archive=radscaper.jar codebase=./ code=com.divinev.radscaper.Main.class width=100% height=100%> <PARAM NAME=Config VALUE=config.xml> <PARAM NAME=DicomImg1 VALUE="relative_path1/image1.dcm"> </APPLET> So the generated html passes in a file url to the java applet. The problem I'm facing is - files would be stored in a public directory and easily accessed by anyone knowing the file url. Is there a way I can restrict file access to a certain user group?

  I'm looking for a way to read document properties in C#. I've heard about dsofile.dll, but it seems like an old COM wrapper, and was wondering if there is something more modern for the .NET framework/C#. What I'm actually reading is not an office document file, but a Solidworks .SLDDRW file, that has Custom properties. You can view and change these in Windows Explorer by right-clicking on the file, and going to the Properties window, Custom tab. Anyone know how to read these custom properties in C# / .NET 3.5?   We receive lots of data as flat files: delimitted or just fixed length records. It's sometimes hard to find out what the files actually contain. Are there any well established practices for embedding the schema of the file to the beginning or the end of a file to make the file self-explanatory? • How can I find file system concurrency issues ?

  I have an application running on Linux, and I find myself wanting windows (!). The problem is that every 1000 times or so I run into concurrency problems that are consistent with concurrent reading/writing of files. I am fairly sure that this behavior would be prohibited by file locking under Windows, but I don't have any sufficiently fast windows box to check. There is simply too much file access (too much data) to expect strace to work reliably - the sheer volume of output is likely to change the problem too. It also happens on different files every time. Ideally I would like to change/reconfigure the linux file system to be more restrictive (as in fail-fast) wrt concurrent access. Are there any tools/settings I can use to achieve this ?

  I have a directory /tmp/dir with two types of file names /tmp/dir/abc-something-server.log /tmp/dir/xyz-something-server.log .. .. and /tmp/dir/something-client.log I need append a few lines (these lines are constant) to files end with "client.log" line 1 line 2 line 3 line 4 append these four lines to files end with "client.log" and For files end with "server.log" I needed to append after a keyword say "After-this". "server.log " file has multiple entries of "After-this" I need to find the first entry of "After-this" and append above said four lines keep the remaining file as it is.   Hi, I'm looking for a way to open encrypted files that are stored on a server. I'm using mcrypt to encrypt the files. I was initially going to create a class that would open the file, decrypt it, write it to a new location, then open that. But I have convinced myself there is a better way (I just don't know what it is). It seems like there should be a way to stream it (?) to the browser once it's decrypted. The initial setup would just link to the file location and the browser would take over (e.g. .pdf files would bring up a dialogue offering to open or save the file). If possible, I'd like it to do the same after decoding. Pointers? Advice? Bueller? Thanks!

• Workaround for Outlook 2007 for wrapping text around image with margin?

  As we all know, Outlook 2007 uses the Word 2007 rendering engine, causing endless grief when designing HTML email message. [Insert rant here] In particular, float, margin, and padding are - shall we say? - poorly supported. To simulate float so that text wraps around an image, apparently we can simply use: <img src="foo.png" align="right"> The issue is padding/margin. Without padding/margin, the wrapped text butts up against the image which looks goofy. One workaround is to edit the image and add transparent framing that simulates margin. Does anyone know any other workarounds?

• Opening Large (24 GB) File In C

  I'm trying to read in a 24 GB XML file in C, but it won't work. I'm printing out the current position using ftell() as I read it in, but once it gets to a big enough number, it goes back to a small number and starts over, never even getting 20% through the file. I assume this is a problem with the range of the variable that's used to store the position (long), which can go up to about 4,000,000,000 according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/s3f49ktz%28VS.80%29.aspx, while my file is 25,000,000,000 bytes in size. A long long should work, but how would I change what my compiler(Cygwin/mingw32) uses or get it to have fopen64?

• Maximum File Size and Pixels for Uploaded Business Documents

  I am creating a php form that accepts an upload of business documents in a variety of formats .pdf, .doc, .tiff, .jpeg, etc. and I need to restrict the size of the files that are uploaded. It's trivial for me to restrict the file size, but I'm not sure if I should also restrict the max height/width, which are also available options. I will need to occasionally print these documents to 8.5 X 11inch paper and have them be legible, but don't really care if images come out. Should I restrict the pixels sizes or is that redundant with restricting the file size? If so, do you guys have a recommendations for max height/width for, say, a 5MB file size limit? I really have no idea what the relationship between pixel size and image size is or what the common pixel sizes are for scanned images. Also, what would be a reasonable size expectation for a legible print per page?

One way to do this is (require 'tramp) C-c C-f /sudo::/path/to/file but this requires an expensive round-trip through SSH. Is there a more direct way? [EDIT] @JBB is right. I want to be able to invoke su/sudo to save as well as open. It would be OK (but not ideal) to re-authorize when saving. What I'm looking for is variations of find-file and save-buffer that can be "piped" through su/sudo.

• Linux - File was deleted and then reappeared when folder was zipped

  Hello, I am using Backtrack 4 Final, which is a Linux distro that is Ubuntu based. I had a directory that contained around 5 files. I deleted one of the files, which sent it to the trash. I then zipped the directory up (now containing 4 files), using this command: zip -r directory.zip directory/ When I then unzipped directory.zip, the file I deleted was in there again. I couldn't believe this, so I zipped up the directory again, and the file reappeared again but this time could not be opened because the operating system said it didn't exist or something. I don't remember the exact error, and I cannot make this happen again. Would anyone happen to know why a file that was deleted from a directory would reappear in that directory after it was zipped up? Thank you.

  Hello, I am working on a chat implementation with Java sockets. I have focused on few functionalities, like authentication, one person chat and a group chat. I was thinking about adding file transfer functionality, and I wonder what's the good practice about this. Should I have separate socket on the server with different port listening just for file transfers? Right now input and output streams that I get from server socket are binded to Scanner and PrintWriter objects respectively, so I find it hard to use that for file transfer. When using animate(), the image in the div tag fades in fine. However, when I use show(), the div loads because I can click in that area, but the image itself doesn't load. Why is this happening? I have another area of the code where I click on an 'x' in the image and it fades out using hide(). This works fine.

• PHP: creating a smooth edged circle, image or font?

  I'm making a PHP image script that will create circles at a given radius. I used: <?php imagefilledellipse ( $image, $cx, $cy, $w, $h, $color ); ?> but hate the rough edges it produces. So I was thinking of making or using a circle font that I will output using: <?php imagettftext ( $image, $size, $angle, $x, $y, $color, 'fontfile.ttf', $text ); ?> So that the font will produce a circle that has a smooth edge. My problem is making the "font size" match the "radius size". Any ideas? Or maybe a PHP class that will produce a smooth edge on a circle would be great! Thank you.

(b g r) padding Where r, g, b are byte each, padding is to round row length up to a multiple of 4 bytes. So, how can I create new BufferedImage from this raw data without copying, just using this raw data? I took a look at creating BufferedImage from DataBuffer, but I just didn't get it. Unfortunately ImageIO is not allowed in my situation.
