  • How can I identify a mystery tray icon in Windows 7?

    - by Mark
    A new icon has appeared in my tray in Windows 7 recently - a black square with a white A in it: It doesn't have any tooltip or right-click context menu so I haven't been able to identify which process it belongs to. I tried using the "Find Window's Process" tool in Process Explorer but that won't identify individual tray icons. Short of killing processes until it disappears, is there a good way to identify which process this icon belongs to?

  • Windows 7 dualscreen wallpaper?

    - by s15199d
    So, I've got a killer dual screen wallpaper that stretches across both monitors. The question is...when I lock my computer or if I logoff and log back in. It shows the default wallpaper on my left screen and leaves my right screen black...until I'm logged in then it shows my dual screen wallpaper. Is there any ways to override the default wallpaper on the login screen?

  • Hashed pattern in bargraphs - MS excel

    - by user1189851
    I am drawing graphs for a paper that supports only black and white graphs. I need to show more than 3 histograms and want to have different patterns on them like hash, dotted, double hashed etc instead of different colors in the legend. I am using MS Excel 2007. I tried but dont find a way except for the option available in design tab that I find when I double click on the chart area( These are shades of grey color and I want patterns like hashing, dots etc). Thanks in advance,

  • Windows 7 boots with a blank screen with mouse cursor only.

    - by user2352
    My Windows 7 machine was powered down without logging out first. Now when booting the PC, Windows 7 does not completely start--instead it boots to an all-black screen with a mouse cursor that can be moved around. There are no icons, toolbars, etc. Ctrl+Alt+Del does not bring up the Task Manager. Booting to Safe Mode renders the same result.

  • html5 video and Windows 7N

    - by Tim Brigham
    When using Windows 7N and embedded videos for YouTube and the like my users have been getting a black box. I tracked this down to when HTML5 is being used for rendering. Other than putting a bunch of sites in compatibility mode or installing the Windows Media Pack (which resolves this issue) is there another route I can take? My guess is it's only a single registry key or DLL that says 'I'm not HTML5 compatible' but I don't have any idea how to find it.

  • windows 8 installs fails to start

    - by theouteredge
    I've been trying to follow Scott Hanselman's post on installing the Win8 RP on a vhd, using the win8 .iso on a dvd, but the install wont start. I get a black screen with the Windows text for a minute or two and then a :( with some text about setup experiencing an error flashes up and my laptop restarts. http://www.hanselman.com/blog/HowToGuideToInstallingAndBootingWindows8ConsumerPreviewOffAVHDVirtualHardDisk.aspx Has anyone got any clues what might be going wrong, or how I can diagnose this? If I kick off the installer from within windows7 it runs OK. But I don't want to overwrite my win7 install

  • Am I going about this the right way?

    - by Psytronic
    Hey Guys, I'm starting a WPF project, and just finished the base of the UI, it seems very convoluted though, so I'm not sure if I've gone around laying it out in the right way. I don't want to get to start developing the back-end and realise that I've done the front wrong, and make life harder for myself. Coming from a background of <DIV's and CSS to style this is a lot different, and really want to get it right from the start. Essentially it's a one week calendar (7 days, Mon-Sunday, defaulting to the current week.) Which will eventually link up to a DB and if I have an appointment for something on this day it will show it in the relevant day. I've opted for a Grid rather than ListView because of the way it will work I will not be binding the results to a collection or anything along those lines. Rather I will be filling out a Combo box within the canvas for each day (yet to be placed in the code) for each event and on selection it will show me further details. • Why is my unsafe code block slower than my safe code?

    - by jomtois
    I am attempting to write some code that will expediently process video frames. I am receiving the frames as a System.Windows.Media.Imaging.WriteableBitmap. For testing purposes, I am just applying a simple threshold filter that will process a BGRA format image and assign each pixel to either be black or white based on the average of the BGR pixels. Here is my "Safe" version: public static void ApplyFilter(WriteableBitmap Bitmap, byte Threshold) { // Let's just make this work for this format if (Bitmap.Format != PixelFormats.Bgr24 && Bitmap.Format != PixelFormats.Bgr32) { return; } // Calculate the number of bytes per pixel (should be 4 for this format). var bytesPerPixel = (Bitmap.Format.BitsPerPixel + 7) / 8; // Stride is bytes per pixel times the number of pixels. // Stride is the byte width of a single rectangle row. var stride = Bitmap.PixelWidth * bytesPerPixel; // Create a byte array for a the entire size of bitmap. var arraySize = stride * Bitmap.PixelHeight; var pixelArray = new byte[arraySize]; // Copy all pixels into the array Bitmap.CopyPixels(pixelArray, stride, 0); // Loop through array and change pixels to black or white based on threshold for (int i = 0; i < pixelArray.Length; i += bytesPerPixel) { // i=B, i+1=G, i+2=R, i+3=A var brightness = (byte)((pixelArray[i] + pixelArray[i + 1] + pixelArray[i + 2]) / 3); var toColor = byte.MinValue; // Black if (brightness >= Threshold) { toColor = byte.MaxValue; // White } pixelArray[i] = toColor; pixelArray[i + 1] = toColor; pixelArray[i + 2] = toColor; } Bitmap.WritePixels(new Int32Rect(0, 0, Bitmap.PixelWidth, Bitmap.PixelHeight), pixelArray, stride, 0); } Here is what I think is a direct translation using an unsafe code block and the WriteableBitmap Back Buffer instead of the forebuffer: public static void ApplyFilterUnsafe(WriteableBitmap Bitmap, byte Threshold) { // Let's just make this work for this format if (Bitmap.Format != PixelFormats.Bgr24 && Bitmap.Format != PixelFormats.Bgr32) { return; } var bytesPerPixel = (Bitmap.Format.BitsPerPixel + 7) / 8; Bitmap.Lock(); unsafe { // Get a pointer to the back buffer. byte* pBackBuffer = (byte*)Bitmap.BackBuffer; for (int i = 0; i < Bitmap.BackBufferStride*Bitmap.PixelHeight; i+= bytesPerPixel) { var pCopy = pBackBuffer; var brightness = (byte)((*pBackBuffer + *pBackBuffer++ + *pBackBuffer++) / 3); pBackBuffer++; var toColor = brightness >= Threshold ? byte.MaxValue : byte.MinValue; *pCopy = toColor; *++pCopy = toColor; *++pCopy = toColor; } } // Bitmap.AddDirtyRect(new Int32Rect(0,0, Bitmap.PixelWidth, Bitmap.PixelHeight)); Bitmap.Unlock(); } This is my first foray into unsafe code blocks and pointers, so maybe the logic is not optimal. I have tested both blocks of code on the same WriteableBitmaps using: var threshold = Convert.ToByte(op.Result); var copy2 = copyFrame.Clone(); Stopwatch stopWatch = new Stopwatch(); stopWatch.Start(); BinaryFilter.ApplyFilterUnsafe(copyFrame, threshold); stopWatch.Stop(); var unsafesecs = stopWatch.ElapsedMilliseconds; stopWatch.Reset(); stopWatch.Start(); BinaryFilter.ApplyFilter(copy2, threshold); stopWatch.Stop(); Debug.WriteLine(string.Format("Unsafe: {1}, Safe: {0}", stopWatch.ElapsedMilliseconds, unsafesecs)); So I am analyzing the same image. A test run of an incoming stream of video frames: Unsafe: 110, Safe: 53 Unsafe: 136, Safe: 42 Unsafe: 106, Safe: 36 Unsafe: 95, Safe: 43 Unsafe: 98, Safe: 41 Unsafe: 88, Safe: 36 Unsafe: 129, Safe: 65 Unsafe: 100, Safe: 47 Unsafe: 112, Safe: 50 Unsafe: 91, Safe: 33 Unsafe: 118, Safe: 42 Unsafe: 103, Safe: 80 Unsafe: 104, Safe: 34 Unsafe: 101, Safe: 36 Unsafe: 154, Safe: 83 Unsafe: 134, Safe: 46 Unsafe: 113, Safe: 76 Unsafe: 117, Safe: 57 Unsafe: 90, Safe: 41 Unsafe: 156, Safe: 35 Why is my unsafe version always slower? Is it due to using the back buffer? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks

  • SP Gridview link button column not working

    - by Dilse Naaz
    Hi I have one sharepoint custom page application which is rendering from a user control. In the user control page, i had used SPGridview for displaying data. My first column is Title Column (link button column), when the user click on the link, then one popup window will open with corresponding data. But the problem is the link button is not working properly. But this application is working as fine in asp.net application. My code is shown below.. <asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="UpdatePanel2"> <ContentTemplate> <SharePoint:SPGridView ID="dgApplicationBox" CellPadding="0" Height="100%" runat="server" ForeColor="Black" Font-Size="10px" Font-Names="Verdana" AutoGenerateColumns="False" AllowPaging="True" Width="100%" BorderStyle="None" BorderWidth="0px" PageSize="10" BorderColor="White" BackColor="White" OnRowDataBound="dgApplicationBox_RowDataBound" DataKeyNames="ApplicationID" OnSelectedIndexChanged="dgApplicationBox_SelectedIndexChanged" OnPageIndexChanging="dgApplicationBox_PageIndexChanging" CssClass="ms-listviewtable" AlternatingRowStyle-CssClass="ms-alternating"> <SelectedRowStyle Font-Bold="True" ForeColor="Black" BackColor="#CE5D5A"></SelectedRowStyle> <EditRowStyle Font-Size="10px" Font-Names="Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif"></EditRowStyle> <HeaderStyle Font-Size="11px" Height="20px" Font-Bold="True" ForeColor="Black" BackColor="#E7E8EC"> </HeaderStyle> <PagerStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" ForeColor="#414E61" Font-Size="5px" Font-Names="arial" Height="10px" BackColor="#EBF3FF"></PagerStyle> <RowStyle /> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Title" HeaderStyle-CssClass="ms-vb"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:LinkButton ID="lbtnSubject" Text='<%# Bind("UDF5") %>' runat="server" OnClick="lbtnSubject_Click"></asp:LinkButton> </ItemTemplate> <HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" CssClass="ms-vh2" Font-Bold="true" /> <ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" CssClass="ms-vb2" /> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Request No."> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblReqNo" Text='<%# Bind("UDF1") %>' runat="server" /> </ItemTemplate> <HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" CssClass="ms-vh2" Font-Bold="true" /> <ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" CssClass="ms-vb2" /> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:BoundField DataField="CreatedOn" HeaderText="Created On" DataFormatString="{0:MM/dd/yyyy}" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Left" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Left"> <HeaderStyle CssClass="ms-vh2" Font-Bold="true"></HeaderStyle> <ItemStyle CssClass="ms-vb2"></ItemStyle> </asp:BoundField> <asp:BoundField DataField="Name" HeaderText="Form Type" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Left" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Left"> <HeaderStyle CssClass="ms-vh2" Font-Bold="true"></HeaderStyle> <ItemStyle CssClass="ms-vb2"></ItemStyle> </asp:BoundField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="History"> <HeaderStyle CssClass="ms-vh2" Font-Bold="true"></HeaderStyle> <ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" VerticalAlign="Middle" Width="21px" CssClass="ms-vb2"> </ItemStyle> <ItemTemplate> <asp:LinkButton ID="lbtnView" runat="server" OnClick="lbtnView_Click" >View</asp:LinkButton> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Application Id" Visible="False"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblApplicationId" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("ApplicationId") %>'></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> <HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" CssClass="ms-vh2" Font-Bold="true" /> <ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" CssClass="ms-vb2" /> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> </SharePoint:SPGridView> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> when the user click on the link button, this code will works.. try { clearSession(); Session["DigitalSignature"] = null; Button btnDetails = sender as Button; DataTable dt = (DataTable)dgApplicationBox.DataSource; GridViewRow gvRow = (GridViewRow)(sender as LinkButton).Parent.Parent; Session["AppId"] = ((Label)gvRow.FindControl("lblApplicationId")).Text; string subject = ((LinkButton)gvRow.FindControl("lbtnSubject")).Text; WFInfo objWFInfo = new WFInfo(); objWFInfo.InitWorkflowProperty(Convert.ToInt32(Session["AppId"].ToString()), Session["CurrentUser"].ToString()); Session["FormId"] = objWFInfo.FormID.ToString(); string strFilname = objWFInfo.GetFormName(objWFInfo.ApplicationCategoryID.ToString()); string WindowName = strFilname; strFilname += ".aspx"; Session["CategoryId"] = objWFInfo.ApplicationCategoryID.ToString(); //pnlSubmitModal_ModalPopupExtender.Show(); ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, this.GetType(), "starScript", "popUpWindow('" + strFilname + "?tittle=" + subject + "', 800, 690,'" + WindowName + "');", true); this.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<script>alert('hi');</script>")); if (Session["CurrentUser"] != null) { ApplicationForm objApplication = new ApplicationForm(); objApplication.markRead(Convert.ToInt32(Session["AppId"].ToString()), Session["CurrentUser"].ToString()); } bindFolderData(); } If i click on the link button, there will be only post back occuring. but not the popup window open..   • pagination with css

    - by bsandrabr
    Hi I've tried every combination I can think of but I can't get this to work. Can you help? I'm trying to put some css onto my pagination and have read all the examples but they all contain so many backslashes and concatenation that I just dont know how to apply it Here is my pagination code (which works fine) along with my feeble attempt at styling it if ($st > 0) { $st3=$st; print "< Previous Page "; } $f=$st+3; for($i2=$st+1;$i2<=$f;$i2++) { $i3=$i2-3; if ($i3 0) { print "$i3 "; if($i2 % 3 == 0) { print ""; } } } $g=$st+3; for($i=$st+1;$i<=$g;$i++) { print "$i "; if($i % 3 == 0) { print ""; } } $st2=$st+2; print " Next Page "; Here is the css that I took from the website /* CSS Document */ body { background: #2D2D2D; font-family:Verdana, fantasy; font-size:13px; color: white; scrollbar-base-color: black; scrollbar-arrow-color: red; scrollbar-DarkShadow-Color: black; } a:visited,a:active,a:link { color: white;text-decoration: none; } a:hover { color: red;text-decoration: overline underline;background: none; } table,tr,td { font-family:Palatino Linotype; color: #FFFFFF;font-size: 12px; } .button { font-family:Verdana, fantasy; font-size:13; color:#FFFFFF; background-color: red; } input,textarea,dropdown{ font-family:Verdana, fantasy; font-size:13; color: #FFFFFF; background-color: #000000; border: 1px solid; } textarea,.submit input{ font-family:Verdana, fantasy; font-size:13; color:#ffffff; background-color: black; } .table { background-color:#000000; } .table3 { background-color:#000000; } .table td { color: #000000; background-color:#DEDEDE; height:22px; } .table3 td { background-color:#CCCCCC; } td .alt { background-color:#EEEEEE; height:22px; } td .h { background-image:url(tablehgrad.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; font-weight: bold; background-color: #D6D6D6; } .table th { background-image:url(tablehgrad.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; color: #000000; font-weight: bold; background-color: #D6D6D6; } .menu th { font-font-size: 12px; color: silver; background-image:url(th.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; font-weight: bold; background-color: #4B4B4B; } .stats td { font-font-size: 12px; color: white; font-weight: bold; } .menu td { font-size: 12px; text-align: center; color: white; background-image:url(tdover.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; font-weight: bold; background-color: #4B4B4B; } .menu td:hover{ color: white; background-image:url(td.png); div.pagination { padding: 3px; margin: 3px; } div.pagination a { padding: 2px 5px 2px 5px; margin: 2px; border: 1px solid #AAAADD; text-decoration: none; /* no underline */ color: #000099; } div.pagination a:hover, div.pagination a:active { border: 1px solid #000099; color: #000; } div.pagination span.current { padding: 2px 5px 2px 5px; margin: 2px; border: 1px solid #000099; font-weight: bold; background-color: #000099; color: #FFF; } div.pagination span.disabled { padding: 2px 5px 2px 5px; margin: 2px; border: 1px solid #EEE; color: #DDD; } thanks

  • How to bring out checboxes based on drop down list selection from DB

    - by user2199877
    I got stuck again. Can't overcome this step: loop through (in a form of checkboxes) pallets based on the lot drop down list selection, so it can be further submitted to complete the table. Please, please help. So, basically, first submit button (drop down menu) brings into the table lot number and description and also checkboxes to choose pallets. Second submit button (checboxes) brings into the table pallets numbers and weights. Thank you for any help. <?php mysql_connect('localhost','user',''); mysql_select_db('base'); $query="SELECT DISTINCT lot_number FROM pl_table"; $result=mysql_query($query); ?> <form action="" method="POST"> <select name="option_chosen"> <option>-- Select lot --</option> <?php while(list($lot_number)=mysql_fetch_row($result)) { echo "<option value=\"".$lot_number."\">".$lot_number."</option>"; } ?> </select> <input type='submit' name='submitLot' value='Submit' /> </form> <!-- need help here <h4>-- Select pallets --</h4> <form action="" method="POST"> <input type='submit' name='submitPal' value='Submit'/> </form> --> <table border="1" id="table"> <tr> <th width=80 height=30>Lot<br/>number</th> <th width=110 height=30>Description</th> <th width=90 height=30>Pallet<br/>number</th> <th width=60 height=30>Net</th> <th width=60 height=30>Gross</th> </tr> <?php if($_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] =='POST') {$option_chosen=$_POST['option_chosen']; $query="SELECT * FROM pl_table WHERE lot_number='$option_chosen'"; $run=mysql_query($query); $row=mysql_fetch_array($run, MYSQLI_ASSOC); echo "<tr><td>".''."</td>"; echo "<td rowspan='5'>".$row['descr']."</td>"; echo "<td><b>".'Total weight'."<b></td>"; echo "<td>".''."</td><td>".''."</td></tr>"; echo "<td>".$row['lot_number']."</td>"; echo "<td colspan='3'>".''."</td>"; //This to be echoed when "select pallets" submited //echo "<tr><td>".$row['lot_number']."</td>"; //echo "<td>".$row['pallet_number']."</td>"; //echo "<td>".$row['net']."</td><td>".$row['gross']."</td></tr>"; } ?> </table> the table +--------------------------+-------------------------+---------+-------+ | id | lot_number | descr | pallet_number | net | gross | +--------------------------+-------------------------+---------+-------+ | 1 | 111 | black | 1 | 800 | 900 | | 2 | 111 | black | 2 | 801 | 901 | | 3 | 111 | black | 3 | 802 | 902 | | 4 | 222 | white | 1 | 800 | 900 | | 5 | 222 | white | 2 | 801 | 901 | | 6 | 222 | white | 3 | 802 | 902 | +--------------------------+-------------------------+---------+-------+

  • SharePoint 2010 – Central Admin tooling to create host header site collections

    - by eJugnoo
    Just like SharePoint 2007, you can create host-header based site collections in SharePoint 2010 as well. It means, that you do not necessarily need to create a site-collection under a managed path like /sites/, you can create multiple root-level site collections on same web-application/port by using host-header site collections. All you need to do is point your domain or sub-domain to your web-application and create a matching site-collection that you want. But, just like in 2007, it is something that you do by using STSADM, and is not available on Central Admin UI in 2010 as well. Yeah, though you can now also use PowerShell to create one: C:\PS>$w = Get-SPWebApplication http://sitename   C:\PS>New-SPSite http://www.contoso.com -OwnerAlias "DOMAIN\jdoe" -HostHeaderWebApplication $w -Title "Contoso" -Template "STS#0"   This example creates a host header site collection. Because the template is provided, the root Web of this site collection will be created. .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } I’ve been playing with WCM in SharePoint 2010 more and more, and for that I preferred creating hosts file entries for desired domains and create site-collections by those headers – in my dev environment. I used PowerShell initially, but then got interested to build my own UI on Central Admin instead. Developed with Visual Studio 2010 So I used new Visual Studio 2010 tooling to create an empty SharePoint 2010 project. Added an application page (there is no option to add _Admin page item in VS 2010 RC), that got created in Layouts “mapped” folder. Created a new Admin mapped folder for 14-“hive”, and moved my new page there instead. Yes, I didn’t change the base class for page, its just that it runs under _admin, but it is indeed a LayoutsPageBase inherited page. To introduce a action-link in Central Admin console, I created following element: 1: <Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/"> 2: <CustomAction 3: Id="CreateSiteByHeader" 4: Location="Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Applications" 5: Title="Create site collections by host header" 6: GroupId="SiteCollections" 7: Sequence="15" 8: RequiredAdmin="Delegated" 9: Description="Create a new top-level web site, by host header" > 10: <UrlAction Url="/_admin/OfficeToolbox/CreateSiteByHeader.aspx" /> 11: </CustomAction> 12: </Elements> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } Used Reflector to understand any special code behind createpage.aspx, and created a new for our purpose – CreateSiteByHeader.aspx. From there I quickly created a similar code behind, without all the fancy of Farm Config Wizard handling and dealt with alternate implementations of sealed classes! Goal was to create a professional looking and OOB-type experience. I also added Regex validation to ensure user types a valid domain name as header value. Below is the result…   Release @ Codeplex I’ve released to WSP on OfficeToolbox @ Codeplex, and you can download from here. Hope you find it useful… -- Sharad

  • Jquery JQGrid trigger reloadGrid

    - by JK
    I'm using a jqgrid to display the results of a search. When the search button is clicked it does this: $("#Search").jqGrid('setGridParam', { url: url }).trigger("reloadGrid"); Where url contains the search params eg: var url ="/search?first=joe&last=smith" The web server is receiving this url and responding appropriately. But on the client side it throws this error in jqgrid.min.js line 21: Syntax error: }); b.fn.jqGrid = function(f) { What can I do to fix this? I'm using jqgrid sucessfully in many other places, but this is the only one where I'm changing the url and reloading.

  • How to manage GetDate() with Entity Framework

    - by wcpro
    I have a column like this in 1 of my database tables DateCreated, datetime, default(GetDate()), not null I am trying to use the Entity Framework to do an insert on this table like this... PlaygroundEntities context = new PlaygroundEntities(); Person p = new Person { Status = PersonStatus.Alive, BirthDate = new DateTime(1982,3,18), Name = "Joe Smith" }; context.AddToPeople(p); context.SaveChanges(); When i run this code i get the following error The conversion of a datetime2 data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value.\r\nThe statement has been terminated. So i tried setting the StoreGeneratedPattern to computed... same thing, then identity... same thing. Any ideas?

  • Camera for 2.5D Game

    - by me--
    I'm hoping someone can explain this to me like I'm 5, because I've been struggling with this for hours and simply cannot understand what I'm doing wrong. I've written a Camera class for my 2.5D game. The intention is to support world and screen spaces like this: The camera is the black thing on the right. The +Z axis is upwards in that image, with -Z heading downwards. As you can see, both world space and screen space have (0, 0) at their top-left. I started writing some unit tests to prove that my camera was working as expected, and that's where things started getting...strange. My tests plot coordinates in world, view, and screen spaces. Eventually I will use image comparison to assert that they are correct, but for now my test just displays the result. The render logic uses Camera.ViewMatrix to transform world space to view space, and Camera.WorldPointToScreen to transform world space to screen space. Here is an example test: [Fact] public void foo() { var camera = new Camera(new Viewport(0, 0, 250, 100)); DrawingVisual worldRender; DrawingVisual viewRender; DrawingVisual screenRender; this.Render(camera, out worldRender, out viewRender, out screenRender, new Vector3(30, 0, 0), new Vector3(30, 40, 0)); this.ShowRenders(camera, worldRender, viewRender, screenRender); } And here's what pops up when I run this test: World space looks OK, although I suspect the z axis is going into the screen instead of towards the viewer. View space has me completely baffled. I was expecting the camera to be sitting above (0, 0) and looking towards the center of the scene. Instead, the z axis seems to be the wrong way around, and the camera is positioned in the opposite corner to what I expect! I suspect screen space will be another thing altogether, but can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong in my Camera class? UPDATE I made some progress in terms of getting things to look visually as I expect, but only through intuition: not an actual understanding of what I'm doing. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. I realized that my view space was flipped both vertically and horizontally compared to what I expected, so I changed my view matrix to scale accordingly: this.viewMatrix = Matrix.CreateLookAt(this.location, this.target, this.up) * Matrix.CreateScale(this.zoom, this.zoom, 1) * Matrix.CreateScale(-1, -1, 1); I could combine the two CreateScale calls, but have left them separate for clarity. Again, I have no idea why this is necessary, but it fixed my view space: But now my screen space needs to be flipped vertically, so I modified my projection matrix accordingly: this.projectionMatrix = Matrix.CreatePerspectiveFieldOfView(0.7853982f, viewport.AspectRatio, 1, 2) * Matrix.CreateScale(1, -1, 1); And this results in what I was expecting from my first attempt: I have also just tried using Camera to render sprites via a SpriteBatch to make sure everything works there too, and it does. But the question remains: why do I need to do all this flipping of axes to get the space coordinates the way I expect? UPDATE 2 I've since improved my rendering logic in my test suite so that it supports geometries and so that lines get lighter the further away they are from the camera. I wanted to do this to avoid optical illusions and to further prove to myself that I'm looking at what I think I am. Here is an example: In this case, I have 3 geometries: a cube, a sphere, and a polyline on the top face of the cube. Notice how the darkening and lightening of the lines correctly identifies those portions of the geometries closer to the camera. If I remove the negative scaling I had to put in, I see: So you can see I'm still in the same boat - I still need those vertical and horizontal flips in my matrices to get things to appear correctly. In the interests of giving people a repro to play with, here is the complete code needed to generate the above. If you want to run via the test harness, just install the xunit package: Camera.cs: using Microsoft.Xna.Framework; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics; using System.Diagnostics; public sealed class Camera { private readonly Viewport viewport; private readonly Matrix projectionMatrix; private Matrix? viewMatrix; private Vector3 location; private Vector3 target; private Vector3 up; private float zoom; public Camera(Viewport viewport) { this.viewport = viewport; // defaults this.location = new Vector3(this.viewport.Width / 2, this.viewport.Height, 100); this.target = new Vector3(this.viewport.Width / 2, this.viewport.Height / 2, 0); this.up = new Vector3(0, 0, 1); this.zoom = 1; } public Viewport Viewport { get { return this.viewport; } } public Vector3 Location { get { return this.location; } set { this.location = value; this.viewMatrix = null; } } public Vector3 Target { get { return this.target; } set { this.target = value; this.viewMatrix = null; } } public Vector3 Up { get { return this.up; } set { this.up = value; this.viewMatrix = null; } } public float Zoom { get { return this.zoom; } set { this.zoom = value; } return this.viewMatrix.Value; } } public Vector2 WorldPointToScreen(Vector3 point) { var result = viewport.Project(point, this.ProjectionMatrix, this.ViewMatrix, Matrix.Identity); return new Vector2(result.X, result.Y); • how to implemet a nice scanline effect using libgdx

    - by Alexandre GUIDET
    I am working on an old school platformer based on libgdx. My first attempt is to make a little texture and fill a rect above the whole screen, but it seems that I am messing arround with the orthographic camera (I use two camera, one for the tilemap and one to project the scanline filter). Sometime the texture is stuck on the tilemap and sometime it is too large and cover the whole screen in black. Is my approach correct using two camera? Does someone have a solution to achieve this retro effect using libgdx (see maldita castilla)? Thanks

  • Think Centre 71, Ubuntu 12 ... Error 1962: No operating system found

    - by johnboy7
    Brought a new Think Centre Edge 71 because The Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge71 desktop has been awarded the status of Certified for Ubuntu. Source. Spent the the past 2 days trying to get *any*Ubuntu 12.04 64bit to install and boot. All give me the same answer: Error 1962: No operating system found Here are a few of the links I've tried: Just installed Ubuntu 12.04. When booting, all I get is a black screen with cursor. Some of the links report to solve the problem. None have worked. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1901748 Is there a relative simple way to install and boot Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on a Think Centre Edge 71?? I mean it is Certified for Ubuntu?
