    I am trying to write a recursive method to print n number of asteriks in a line and create a new line at the end.   • Be notified of method calls in .NET

    Basically, what I want to do is to be notified whenever a specific method has been called. I was hoping I could accomplish this using Reflection, but my attempts haven't gotten me anywhere yet, so I'm hoping that perhaps somebody else with the same need has accomplished this before and can enlighten me. I figured using MethodInfo was the way to go, but like I said, I found nothing there that could help me accomplish what I wanted to do. Any suggestions, hints or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Android "single top" launch mode and onNewIntent method

    I read in the Android documentation that by setting my Activity's launchMode property to singleTop OR by adding the FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP flag to my Intent, that calling startActivity(intent) would reuse a single Activity instance and give me the Intent in the onNewIntent callback. I did both of these things, and onNewIntent never fires and onCreate fires every time. The docs also say that this.getIntent() returns the intent that was first passed to the Activity when it was first created. In onCreate I'm calling getIntent and I'm getting a new one every time (I'm creating the intent object in another activity and adding an extra to it...this extra should be the same every time if it was returning me the same intent object). All this leads me to believe that my activity is not acting like a "single top", and I don't understand why. To add some background in case I'm simply missing a required step, here's my Activity declaration in the manifest and the code I'm using to launch the activity.     Hello, I am working on a kit of simple Java agents to help me (and hopefully others) troubleshoot Java applications. One of the agents I would like to create instruments the JComponent.getToolTipText() method to quickly identify any GUI class by just hovering the mouse cursor over it. Here is what the application prints when I launch it and I put the mouse over it: Loading agent: JComponent Instrumentation ready!   • What is the best "forgot my password" method?

    I'm programming a community website. I want to build a "forgot my password" feature. Looking around at different sites, I've found they employ one of three options: send the user an email with a link to a unique, hidden URL that allows him to change his password (Gmail and Amazon) send the user an email with a new, randomly generated password (Wordpress) send the user his current password (www.teach12.com) Option #3 seems the most convenient to the user but since I save passwords as an MD5 hash, I don't see how option #3 would be available to me since MD5 is irreversible. This also seems to be insecure option since it means that the website must be saving the password in clear text somewhere, and at the least the clear-text password is being sent over insecure e-mail to the user. Or am I missing something here? So if I can't do option #1, option #2 seems to be the simplest to program since I just have to change the user's password and send it to him. Although this is somewhat insecure since you have to have a live password being communicated via insecure e-mail. However, this could also be misused by trouble-makers to pester users by typing in random e-mails and constantly changing passwords of various users. Option #1 seems to be the most secure but requires a little extra programming to deal with a hidden URL that expires etc., but it seems to be what the big sites use. What experience have you had using/programming these various options? Are there any options I've missed?
