• How to deploy jar artifacts directly from a maven repository to appserver specific directories

  I have JDBC driver dependencies (e.g. h2, mysql ..) which have to be copied under ${jboss.home}/common/lib before it is used by my EAR application. What would be the best way to directly copy from a maven repository into the above location instead of doing a manual copy. I would not prefer to store copies of the drivers as part of my SVN. Note: I currently specify this as a maven dependency and copy this artifact from the local repository, not sure if this is the best way to do solve this.

• Working with the Grails g:timeZoneSelect tag?

  I am wanting to use the g:timeZoneSelect tag within my application, problem is im finding the resulting html select to be quite overwhelming. Over 600 options are being displayed, IMHO this is to much to display to the user. Maybe someone could point me to an example of a much more manageable list of timezones? Maybe you have seen a site that does timezone selection well? Im sure over 600 option is "technically" correct, but this will just look like noise to the user. The display value of the timezone is to long. E.g. "CST, Central Standard Time (South Australia/New South Wales) 9.5:30.0" Just "CST, Central Standard Time" or "Australia/Broken_Hill" would be better Is there a way to address these issues via tag attributes of some sort (cant find any in the docs) or config that I am unaware of? Or, is my best bet to wrap an html select within a custom tag lib and "roll my own" solution (Id prefer not to). Thanks

• Long polling with NSURLConnection

  I'm working on an iPhone application which will use long-polling to send event notifications from the server to the client over HTTP. After opening a connection on the server I'm sending small bits of JSON that represent events, as they occur. I am finding that -[NSURLConnectionDelegate connection:didReceiveData] is not being called until after I close the connection, regardless of the cache settings I use when creating the NSURLRequest. I've verified that the server end is working as expected - the first JSON event will be sent immediately, and subsequent events will be sent over the wire as they occur. Is there a way to use NSURLConnection to receive these events as they occur, or will I need to instead drop down to the CFSocket API? I'm starting to work on integrating CocoaAsyncSocket, but would prefer to continue using NSURLConnection if possible as it fits much better with the rest of my REST/JSON-based web service structure.

• Change text_factory in Django/sqlite

  I have a django project that uses a sqlite database that can be written to by an external tool. The text is supposed to be UTF-8, but in some cases there will be errors in the encoding. The text is from an external source, so I cannot control the encoding. Yes, I know that I could write a "wrapping layer" between the external source and the database, but I prefer not having to do this, especially since the database already contains a lot of "bad" data. The solution in sqlite is to change the text_factory to something like: lambda x: unicode(x, "utf-8", "ignore") However, I don't know how to tell the Django model driver this.

• How to select text that is not marked up with CSS/jquery?

  I want to apply some CSS to text that I can't get marked up in span's. So for example: <li><a href="google.com">This is marked up</a> and this is not </li> I want to select, with either CSS (preferably) or jQuery this bit: and this is not. Maybe there's a method of selecting the entire li then excluding a, that seems like a bypass. The reason why I can't get it marked up is because I'm using WP and prefer to do that than dig into endless lines of php code. Thanks a lot for the help.

  Is there anyway to use LINQ to obtain the maximum of each columns for two dimensional arrays? Assume that I have the following: var arrays = new double[5,100](); I want to get the maximum of arrays[0,:], arrays[1,:] .... arrays[4,:]. How to use LINQ to do it?   I'm using Entity Framework 4.1 with a Code-First approach on an ASP.NET MVC site Say I have an entity named Profile that keeps track of a user's favorite book, and I want to track when the user updates their favorite book. UPDATED: Using the class below as an example, I want to set the FavoriteBookLastUpdated property to the current date whenever the value of the FavoriteBook property changes. public class Profile { public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string FavoriteBook { get; set; } public DateTime? FavoriteBookLastUpdated { get; set; } } Right now I just update that field, if appropriate, in the controller's Edit action before calling the DBContext's SaveChanges() method. Is there a way I can put that logic in my model somehow? I'd prefer not to use triggers on the database side.

  Hello! I have a WinForms application (OwnerForm) with some UserControl. When textbox of UserControl is changed, I want to filter content of a OwnerForm. But how can I make it? I don't want to specify OwnerForm inside the user control. I know a solution to add manually handlers for MyUserControl.tb.TextChanged to some functions on a owner form, but I think it's bad way. • Headless build of eclipse features - PDE Tools or Buckminster?

  I am trying to set up a headless build for a big eclipse feature, containing other features and plugins. As some needed plugins are generated using GMF and EMF, the build workflow must be something like this: SVN Check-out Invoke Generation Run Tests Build all Publish update-site Over the last couple of weeks, i played around with PDE Headless Build and Buckminster. Anyhow i still got problems with both and can't decide on which i should spent my effort. So what would you prefer? What experience you made? Anybody out there who needed to set up a similiar workflow before? Thank you for all answers :)

• Conditionally embed ASP.NET MVC2 Views as resources during build in Visual Studio 2010

  I have a ASP.NET MVC2 project in VS2010 that can be deployed in two modes: standalone or plugin. In standalone mode, the views should live outside the compiled assembly as .aspx files (the default setup). In plugin mode, the views are switched (currently by hand) to embedded resources and the entire assembly is dropped into a host project folder. Currently, this requires the developer to go through each view and switch it from Build Action: "Content" to "Embedded Resource" and vice versa. I would like to create a new solution configuration to automatically grab all .aspx files and build them as resources. This SO post seems like the solution, but I would prefer not to have to edit the .csproj every single time I add a new view to the project. Is there a way to use a wild cards or some other batch/global conditionally statement to change resources from content to embedded?

• Overwriting a core Wordpress function - should work but it doesn't

  I'm trying to overwrite a core Wordpress function (found in media.php) using add_filter() in my theme's functions.php file. This should work accord to the blogs that I've come across, but for some reason I see no change whatsoever. #override what WP is trying to do to scaling images by default function my_image_hwstring($width, $height) { $out = ''; #if ($width) # $out .= 'width="'.intval($width).'"   I am trying to create a table in my MS SQL database for Languages. I want to store an English name of Language and a local name of language in the database. i.e. Language, Language(local) English, English German, Deutsch Italian, Italiano Japanese, ??? ... ... I have 279 languages that I want to import, but when I import it shows '?????' for some like japanese, Russian and arabic etc The database Collation is Latin1_General_CI_AS. I would also like advise on multilingual websites; if i have a database of product descriptions and I want to have translation in multiple languages, should I go for separate databases or Can I have translation in one databse? (I prefer not to duplicate data!). Anything else to make sure users are able to write comments in different languages (char encoding on web?) and can be stored in database.

  I am still using the old colon syntax (I prefer it more than the bracket syntax) and this particular code: a.button-link +box($main-color) +border-radius(5px) :background :color $main-color :color #fff :padding 5px generates a warning like so: DEPRECATION WARNING: On line 12, character 3 of '/Users/eumir/rails_apps/dxconnect/app/ stylesheets/partials/utilities/_link-styles.sass' Setting properties with = has been deprecated and will be removed in version 3.2. Use "background: $main-color" instead. I tried that but my background color still doesn't show up. Any help on this please? Thanks!

  I have an import script that was failing because of the 'Exclusive nowait' option I set my script. This caused the script to error out the first time it could not get the exclusive lock on the table. My script did it this way: "LOCK TABLE %s IN EXCLUSIVE MODE NOWAIT" Now my script works it's just that I want to be able to set the timeout for PostgreSQL instead of having it wait for the maximum time which is 15mins. I prefer to set it in posgresql.conf. Is there a way to do this?

Are there any plug-ins that bring mixed mode debugging functionality to Eclipse in a reliable way or should I continue to use two separate debuggers?

  I sometimes find myself discussing this issue with other C# developers and especially if we use different styles. I can see the advantage of tab indentation allowing different developers to browse the code with their favorite indent size. Nonetheless, I long ago went for two space indentation in my C# code and have stuck with it ever since. Mainly because I often disliked the way statements spanning multiple lines are sometimes messed up when viewing code from other developers using another tab size. Recently a developer at one of my clients approached me and asked why I did not use tabs because he preferred to view code with an indentation size of 4. So my question is: Which style do you prefer and why?

• Making Eclipse behave like Visual Studio

  I'm doing some Android dev, and I much prefer Visual Studio, but I'll have to use Eclipse for this. Has anyone made a tool that switches Eclipse to look and behave more like visual studio? I mainly can't stand its clippyesqe suggestions on how I should program (Yes, I know I have not yet used that private field! Thanks Eclipse!), or its incredibly lousy intellisense. For example, in eclipse, if I don't type "this" first, its intellisense won't realize I want to look for locally scoped members. Also, the TAB to complete VS convention is drilled into my head, and Eclipse is ENTER to complete, I could switch everything by hand but that would take hours, and I was hoping someone had some sort of theme or something that has already done it :)

• ASP.Net: User control with content area, it's clearly possible but I need some details.

  I have seen two suggestions for my original question about whether it is possible to define a content area inside a user control and there are some helpful suggestions i.e. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1971498/passing-in-content-to-asp-net-user-control and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1912283/asp-net-user-control-inner-content Now, I like the theory of the latter better than the former just for aesthetic reasons. It seems to make more sense to me but the example given uses two variables content and templateContent that the answerer has not defined in their example code. Without these details I have found that the example does not work. I guess they are properties of the control? Or some such? The former example seems workable but I'd prefer to go with the latter if someone could fill in the blanks for me. Thanks.

  The argument to my function f() must implement two different interfaces that are not related to each other by inheritance, IFoo and IBar. I know of two different ways of doing this. The first is to declare an empty interface that inherits from both: public interface IFooBar : IFoo, IBar { // nothing to see here } public int f(IFooBar arg) { // etc. } This, of course, requires that the classes declare themselves as implementing IFooBar rather than IFoo and IBar separately. The second way is to make f() generic with a constraint: public int f<T>(T arg) where T : IFoo, IBar { // etc. } Which of these do you prefer, and why? Are there any non-obvious advantages or disadvantages to each?

• pipelined function

  Can someone provide an example of how to use parallel table function in oracle pl/sql. We need to run massive queries for 15 years and combine the result. SELECT * FROM Table(TableFunction(cursor(SELECT * FROM year_table))) ...is what we want effectively. The innermost select will give all the years, and the table function will take each year and run massive query and returns a collection. The problem we have is that all years are being fed to one table function itself, we would rather prefer the table function being called in parallel for each of the year. We tried all sort of partitioning by hash and range and it didn't help. Also, can we drop the keyword PIPELINED from the function declaration? because we are not performing any transformation and just need the aggregate of the resultset.
