  • When is a webapp called Beta, alpha, pre-alpha, or none

    I've come across many apps on the web that call themselves Beta. I've come across other apps that had an alpha designation. I've even come across some that called themselves pre-alpha, whatever that means (if you know please clarify). Then I've come across some really bad webapps that shouldn't have left the developer's computer and they didn't have any beta designations. I've also seen some well built apps that called themselves Beta, including Stack Exchange (the mother site of SO) which I believe is very full featured to be called a Beta. I'm a little confused. It seems people are doing it at their whims. Is there an established rule or a checklist that can help decide what stage an app is in (beta, alpha, pre-alpha, or none)? P.S. Please feel free to retag as appropriate.

  • having a test debug app and a released debug app side by side

    Yo! When I download my app from the iStore, the latest test version installed to my phone gets over written. Does anyone know how to have two versions of the same app side by side? On a test project, I edited the build settings so that "realease" and "debug" have different product names. This seemed to solve my problem, however when I try this same trick on my actual project, the two overwrite each other again. Does anyone have a recommendation? I don't mind how it's done. Thanks!   • Infinispan equivalent to ehcache's copyOnRead and copyOnWrite

    Hi, I am planning to implement a cache solution into an existing web app. Nothing complicated: basically a concurrent map that supports overflowing to disk and automatic eviction. Clustering the cache could be requirement in the future, but not now. I like ehcache's copyOnRead and copyOnWrite features, because it means that I don't have to manually clone things before modifying something I take out of the cache. Now I have started to look at Infinispan, but I have not found anything equivalent there. Does it exist?   • How can I simply change the Timezone Offset with Zend_Date?

    I'm using Zend_Date to manage dates/times in a scheduling app. The only way I'm able to determine the user's Timezone is via Javascript which only gives a Timezone Offset. Zend_Date only seems to take Timezones in the 'America/New_York' format. Is there a way to get the users timezone in this format or set the Timezone Offset with Zend_Date? Thanks!

  • How best to store Subversion version information in EAR's?

    When receiving a bug report or an it-doesnt-work message one of my initials questions is always what version? With a different builds being at many stages of testing, planning and deploying this is often a non-trivial question. I the case of releasing Java JAR (ear, jar, rar, war) files I would like to be able to look in/at the JAR and switch to the same branch, version or tag that was the source of the released JAR. How can I best adjust the ant build process so that the version information in the svn checkout remains in the created build? I was thinking along the lines of: adding a VERSION file, but with what content? storing information in the META-INF file, but under what property with which content? copying sources into the result archive added svn:properties to all sources with keywords in places the compiler leaves them be I ended up using the svnversion approach (the accepted anwser), because it scans the entire subtree as opposed to svn info which just looks at the current file / directory.   • converting a timestring to a duration

    Hi, At the moment I am trying to read in a timestring formatted and create a duration from that. I am currently trying to use the boost date_time time_duration class to read and store the value. boost date_time provides a method time_duration duration_from_string(std::string) that allows a time_duration to be created from a time string and it accepts strings formatted appropriately ("[-]h[h][:mm][:ss][.fff]".). Now this method works fine if you use a correctly formatted time string. However if you submit something invalid like "ham_sandwich" or "100" then you will still be returned a time_duration that is not valid. Specifically if you try to pass it to a standard output stream then an assertion will occur. My question is: Does anyone know how to test the validity of the boost time_duration? and failing that can you suggest another method of reading a timestring and getting a duration from it? Note: I have tried the obvious testing methods that time_duration provides; is_not_a_date_time(), is_special() etc and they don't pick up that there is an issue. Using boost 1.38.0

The idea is this: If a User has Excel Open, if he has the file I'm interested in open... get that Excel instance and do whatever I want to do... But I don't to close his File after I'm done... I want him to keep working on it, the problem is that when he closes Excel... The process keeps running... and running... and running after the user closes Excel with the X button... this is how I try to do it This piece is used to know if he has Excel open, and in the For I check for the file name I'm interested in.     This is likely a novice question about LINQ, but assuming I have a set of Items with a DateTime property, one date having at most one item, how would I go about selecting the N most recent items from a date of reference, that is, the N items which have a date smaller that the requested date, and the largest date? My naive thought would be to first select items with a date smaller than the reference date, sort by date, and select the N first items from that subset. var recentItems = from item in dataContext.Items where item.Date<=date orderby item.Date descending select item; var mostRecentItems = recentItems.Take(5).ToList(); Is this the "right" way to do it, or are there obviously better ways to achieve my goal?
