    I'm using the Generics Collection library C5 (server down :-( ) and I have an IntervalHeap(T) and I need to Delete or Replace a T that is not the Max or Min. How do I get an IPriorityQueueHandle from my T? The C5 library source code shows that IPriorityQueueHandle(T) has no methods or properties to implement and the compiler thinks my implementation of IPriorityQueueHandle(T) for my T is acceptable. I try to use a T like this: q.Replace(t, t); and the C5 library throws an InvalidCastException because it cannot convert my T to a (Handle).

  • Import de-normalized relational data from Excel into SQL Server

    I need to import data from an Excel spreadsheet into SQL Server, but the data isn't in a relational/normalized format so the import wizard isn't going to cut it (as far as I know). The data is in this format: Category SubCategory Name Description Category#1 SubCategory#1 Product#1 Description#1 Category#1 SubCategory#1 Product#2 Description#2 Category#1 SubCategory#2 Product#3 Description#3 Category#1 SubCategory#2 Product#4 Description#4 Category#2 SubCategory#3 Product#5 Description#5 (apologies I'm lacking the inventiveness to come up with 'real' data at this time in the morning...) Each row contains a unique product, but the cateogry structure is duplicated. I want to import this data into three tables: Category SubCategory Product (I know SubCategory should really be contained within Category, DB was not my design) I need a way to import unique rows based on the Category and then SubCategory columns, and then when importing the other columns into Product, obtain a reference to the SubCategory based on name. Short of scripting this, is there any way to do it using the import wizard or some other tool?

  • Fast (de)serialization on iPhone

    I'm developing a game/engine for iPhone OS. It's the first time I'm using Objective-C. I made my own binary format for geometry data and for textures I'm focusing on PVRTC. That should be the optimal approach as far as speed and space are concerned. I really want to keep loading time to a minimum and - if possible - be able to save very fast as well. So now I'm trying to make my "Entity" stuff persistent without sacrificing performance. First I wanted to use NSKeyedArchiver. From what I've heard, it's not very fast. Also, what I want to serialize is mostly structs made of floats with some ints and strings, so there isn't really a need for all that "object graph" overhead. NSArchiver would have been more appropriate, but they kicked that off the iphone for some reason. So now I'm thinking about making my own serialization scheme again. Am I wrong in thinking that NSKeyedArchiver is slow (I only read that, haven't tested it myself)? If so, what's the best way to encode/decode structs (with no pointers, mostly floats) without sacrificing speed?

    I have a long-running process where, due to a bug, a trivial/expendable thread is deadlocked with a thread which I would like to continue, so that it can perform some final reporting that would be hard to reproduce in another way. Of course, fixing the bug for future runs is the proper ultimate resolution. Of course, any such forced interrupt/kill/stop of any thread is inherently unsafe and likely to cause other unpredictable inconsistencies. (I'm familiar with all the standard warnings and the reasons for them.) But still, since the only alternative is to kill the JVM process and go through a more lengthy procedure which would result in a less-complete final report, messy/deprecated/dangerous/risky/one-time techniques are exactly what I'd like to try. The JVM is Sun's 1.6.0_16 64-bit on Ubuntu, and the expendable thread is waiting-to-lock an object monitor. Can an OS signal directed to an exact thread create an InterruptedException in the expendable thread? Could attaching with gdb, and directly tampering with JVM data or calling JVM procedures allow a forced-release of the object monitor held by the expendable thread? Would a Thread.interrupt() from another thread generate a InterruptedException from the waiting-to-lock frame? (With some effort, I can inject an arbitrary beanshell script into the running system.) Can the deprecated Thread.stop() be sent via JMX or any other remote-injection method? Any ideas appreciated, the more 'dangerous', the better! And, if your suggestion has worked in personal experience in a similar situation, the best!

    I know how to launch a process with Admin privileges from a process using: proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = true; proc.StartInfo.Verb = "runas"; where proc is a System.Diagnostics.Process. But how does one do the opposite? If the process you're in is already elevated, how do you launch the new process without admin privileges? More accurately, we need to launch the new process with the same permission level as Windows Explorer, so no change if UAC is diabled, but if UAC is enabled, but our process is running elevated, we need to perform a certain operation un-elevated because we're creating a virtual drive and if it's created with elevated permissions and Windows explorer is running unelevated it won't show up. Feel free to change the title to something better, I couldn't come up with a good description

    Hi, i have a little problem implementing some serialization/deserialization logic. My current Solution is that each handler gets the serialized String and is itself responsible for deserialization. This is not a good solution as it contains duplicate code, the beginning of each HandleRequest method looks the same (FooRequest request = Deserialize(serializedRequest); + try/catch and other Error Handling on failed deserialization). Embedding type information into the serialized Data is not possible and not intended. Thanks for any Hints.

It does not compile when just using i++, but to me it looks the same, because I'm "incrementing" i, then I'm requesting the value at the given address and then I'm requesting the address of this value?!

    Spanish: Tengo un problema al tratar de instalar Age of Mythology Gold Edition (v 1.03). Al iniciarle con el Wine (1.3.28) en mi Ubuntu 11.10, y después de ingresar el serial y pulsar Siguiente, me sale un error "No se puede cargar PidGen.dll", y se regresa a la ventana anterior. En Configurar Wine, y en la pestaña Librerías le añadí el archivo DLL que me pide pero todo sigue igual. He intentado todo para que se instale pero no funciona. También he intentado instalarlo en una maquina virtual de VMware Workstation 8.0.1 con Microsoft Windows XP SP3 y me sale un error de compatibilidad con la tarjeta de vídeo: "Tarjeta de vídeo 0: vmx_fb.dll VMware SVGA II Vendor(0x15AD) Device(0x405)" y se cierra el Age of Mythology. Me parece que la solución en este caso seria aumentar la cantidad de vídeo que pone a disposición el VMware a la maquina virtual o un driver para esta tarjeta, pero no se como hacer eso. O tal vez alguien sabe la manera de que mi tarjeta de vídeo que tiene mi computadora se use también para VMware o destinar parte de la memoria del vídeo a la maquina virtual. He buscado en varios sitios, pero ninguno soluciona mi problema. Por favor, si alguien ya encontró la respuesta, que responda a esta pregunta, y de antemano gracias.     My site's URL (web address) is: http://quantlabs.net/private/sitemap.xml Description (including timeline of any changes made): Will this sitemap get me de-indexed from Google? My new site map just got spidered by Google for some reason. It is located at http://quantlabs.net/private/sitemap.xml, is this in danger of getting me de-indexed from Google's index. Does it look like spam even though it is not meant to be? I am trying to figure the limitation in terms of Google's threshold before they deem it a spammy sitemap. This is sitemap contains automated postings which are different with the stock symbol provided. The amount of postings within the Sitemap are quite a few in a small amount of time.
