  • SPARC64 VII+ Processor Core License Factor Reduced by 33%

    The Oracle processor core license factor has been a popular topic the last few months.  For those partners new to Oracle software licensing, the processor core license factor determines the number licensed CPUs that are required when running Oracle software (those charged on a per-CPU basis) on multi-core processors.My last entry talked about the core factor reduction for our T3 processor.  The core license factor for our newly announced SPARC64 VII+ processor is 0.5, which is a 33% reduction from the 0.75 rate used with our SPARC64 VI and VII processors.What does this mean for our partners?  Increased opportunity.  This change, similar to our T3-based systems, means that our hardware is the preferred platform for Oracle software.     Hello everyone! I'm always really picky about memory leaks and I cannot understand why my garbage collected application leaks. My code is entirely memory-managed and it runs great without garbage collection, not a single leak. However, as soon as I turn on garbage collection it leaks! Just to prove a point, why does this leak in a garbage collected app? (place this dummy code at applicationDidFinishLaunching:) NSOpenPanel *panel = [NSOpenPanel openPanel]; [panel beginSheetModalForWindow:window completionHandler:^(NSInteger result) {NSBeep();}]; Also, is there a way to prevent leaks in apps (garbage collected or otherwise) that use Scripting Bridge? it seems as if they all leak, even the sample ones in xcode.   • Why don't scripting languages output Unicode to the Windows console?

    The Windows console has been Unicode aware for at least a decade and perhaps as far back as Windows NT. However for some reason the major cross-platform scripting languages including Perl and Python only ever output various 8-bit encodings, requiring much trouble to work around. Perl gives a "wide character in print" warning, Pythong gives a charmap error and quits. Why on earth after all these years do they not just simply call the Win32 -W APIs that output UTF-16 Unicode instead of forcing everything through the ANSI/codepage bottleneck? Is it just that cross-platform performance is low priority? Is it that the languages use UTF-8 internally and find it too much bother to output UTF-16? Or are the -W APIs inherently broken to such a degree that they can't be used as-is?

    we have implemented the code for installing the messenger theme pack using the client side scripting in a web page. We are creating an object of the messenger using the classid .Using this object we call the installcontent() method and try to install the messenger theme pack hosted at following path: http://www.messengerexpressions.com/assets/worldCup/cabs/en-gb.cab Our code initially checks whether the messenger is installed on the user machine or not. Then it checks for the user login ,once the messenger is installed on the machine. And if the user is signed-in , the messenger theme pack is installed. The code currently when hosted on IIS checks the “Sign-In of the user” but when it tries to install the theme pack an error is thrown “An ActiveX control on this page is unsafe.Your current security settings prohibit running unsafe control on this page.As a result,this page may not be display as intended.” Please let us know if any setting is required on IIS for running this piece of codeor anything that we are missing out.

  • How do I set the title of Terminal.app with the fish shell?

    I'm trying the fish shell in Mac OS X, intalled using MacPorts. I'd like to have the title of my Terminal window be my current directory. Currently, the title just says Terminal - fish - 80x24 According to the fish documentation, the default fish_title function should provide this behavior. It doesn't do the right thing in Terminal.app, although it does work with iTerm. Defining my own fish_title function doesn't fix the problem. Has anybody been able to get this to work?

  • Git Shell in Windows: patch's default character encoding is UCS-2 Little Endian - how to change this to ANSI or UTF-8 without BOM?

    When creating a diff patch with Git Shell in Windows (when using GitHub for Windows), the character encoding of the patch will be UCS-2 Little Endian according to Notepad++ (see the screenshots below). How can I change this behavior, and force git to create patches with ANSI or UTF-8 without BOM character encoding? It causes a problem because UCS-2 Little Endian encoded patches can not be applied, I have to manually convert it to ANSI.

    I am responsible for demonstrating changes to our software every two weeks. Since the software has both telnet and web interfaces, I think it would help the demo go more smoothly if I could embed a web browser and a telnet client or shell directly into presentation slides, like this: My current idea is to write extensions for LibreOffice to do it, but obviously I don't want to reinvent the wheel if I can help it. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this? I prefer PowerPoint 2007 or LibreOffice on Windows 7, but am open to suggestions for any software or OS.

  • How do I detect if I'm in a 'full screen' bash shell or GUI terminal window?

    I have some code in my .bashrc that sets the terminal window title using the currently running command and it works great in Unity, where the terminal is in a window. However, when I'm logging in with the Ctrl + Alt + F1 terminal (whatever it's called), my prompt gets filled with garbage that is various escape sequences that set the (nonexistent) window title. How can I detect from within a bash script if I'm in one or the other?

    The only thing I will miss after moving to LXDE from Unity will be the Unity Dash. Its functionality, not the piss-poor performance that is. So here's my question. I know there is synapse but AFAIK it only returns text, without multiple large-sized thumbnails of files etc. ** I'm looking for a tool with thumb ailing capability. Immediate presentation of recently used files and apps is also a must.** Please don't be afraid of the NO answer. Related question: Any search tool for LXDE menu?

  • How to find history of shell commands since machine was created?

    I created an Ubuntu virtualbox machine a couple weeks ago and have been working on projects off and on in it since then. Now I would like to find the syntax of some commands I typed in the terminal a week ago, but I have opened and closed the terminal window and restarted the machine numerous times. How can I get the history command to go back to the first command I typed after I created the machine, or is there another place that all the commands are stored in Ubuntu?

  • How do I change Firefox's `about:config` from a shell script?

    On of the first things I do when first using a fresh Firefox profile, is to set browser.urlbar.trimURLs to false (which really should be changeable though ‘Preferences’ or should have remained default), and to change the search and homepage defaults to DuckDuckGo. Currently I manually go to about:config, click through the angry warning message, and search for the keys (which unlike in DConf Editor, aren't even organised). So I would like to know how to read and write these keys from the command-line so that I can add these tweaks to my customisations script.
