• Twisted Spread: How to authenticate each RPC with digital signature

  I have remote objects which talk each others with RPCs, using Twisted Spread. I want that objects authenticate messages, before using them, with digital signatures, but I don't know where to start to implement this. In my head, the Root object must have a public/private key pair, and the Client too. When a message is sent, a digital signature of the hash is added, and when it is received, the signature is checked. Is the Protocol part where I need to add these adds and checks? Thank you

• Is there a "dual user check-in" source control system?

  Are there any source control systems that require another user to validate the source code "before" it can be checked-in? I want to know as this is one technique to make sure that code quality is high. Update: There has been talk of "Branches" in the answers, and while I feel branches have there place I think that branchs are something different as when a developer's code is ready to go into the main branch it "should" be checked. Most often though I see that when this happens a lead developer or whoever is responsible for the merge into the main branch/stream just puts the code into the main branch as long as it "compiles" and does no more checks than that. I want the idea of two people putting their names to the code at an early stage so that it introduces some responsibility, and also because the code is cheaper to fix early on and is also fresh in the developers mind.

• C++ USB Programming

  Hi, I am new to hardware programming(especially USB) so please bear with me and my questions. I am using C++ and I need to send/receive some data (a byte array) to/from a USB port on a microprocessor board. Now, I have done some serial port programming before and I know that for a serial port you have to open a port, setup, perform i/o and finally close the port. I am guessing to use a USB port, it is not as simple as what I mentioned above. I do know that I want to use Microsoft standard drivers and implement standard Windows IO commands to accomplish this, since I believe there are no drivers for the microprocessor board for me to interact with. If somebody can point me in the right direction as to the steps needed to "talk" to a USB port (open, setup, i/o) via standard Windows IO commands, I would truly and greatly appreciate it.   I'm trying to put together a really simple module with one .py source file in it, and have already run into a roadblock. I was going to call it scons-config but import scons-config doesn't work in Python. I found this SO question and looked at PEP8 style guide but am kind of bewildered, it doesn't talk about two-word-name conventions. What's the right way to deal with this? module name: SconsConfig? scons_config? sconsconfig? scons.config? name of the single .py file in it: scons-config.py? scons_config.py?

• What's the deal with all of the abstract stuff?

  I see a lot of talk about MVVM, MVC, Design Patterns etc... You know, some guy has a blog, and he spent the last six months learning about one these things and desiging a program centered around that concept and then he goes on and on about it like its better than sliced bread. I read all of this crap and I wonder, whatever happened to simple logical programming? Not self-absorbed huge frameworks of design patterns and mvc and whatever else you can think of... just simple linear programming, perhaps a few classes to encapsulate things here and there.

• Grails external Jms broker (active mq)

  I have what will become an 'external' activemq server I'd like grails to be able to talk to. Right now I am just running it on my dev box. Here is what I have setup right now: 1) Run activemq server 2) Run activemq/examples using ant to produce messages 3) View ActiveMQ admin site: http://localhost:8161/admin/queues.jsp verify that messages are in the queue. 4) Follow Mini Tutorial to create the Service and Controller: http://www.grails.org/ActiveMQ+Plugin 5) Configured my Grails resources.groovy file as follows: beans = { jmsConnectionFactory(SingleConnectionFactory){ targetConnectionFactory = { ActiveMQConnectionFactory cf -> brokerURL = 'tcp://localhost:61616' } } } When I run the grails app I get a BindException saying port 61616 is already in use. How do I configure this to use my server that is already running? I've tried changing 'localhost' to '127.0.0.1' and to my LAN ip, but no luck, it keeps trying to setup its own embedded activemq server. Any ideas?

  Sheesh talk about limited information! I'm trying to get my Android application to connect to an online database to access information. There's quite a bit of info including geotags and these are going to be mapped on my app. The developer site has the very informative piece of information: You can use the network (when it's available) to store and retrieve data on your own web-based services. To do network operations, use classes in the following packages: java.net.* android.net.* Like I said in my previous question, I'm still very much an android newbie, and trying to remember my java oop from college is slow. Does anyone have an example of how this might work, or how I could implement it? I wouldn't mind even connecting to a local xml file, if I could find a good example of how to do that!?   For the first time I am needing to join information from two tables and am quite nervous about doing it without any advice first. Basically, I am building a secure site that is accessed by authorised users. I have my login table with user_id, username, password Once the user is on the site, they have the option of inputting data into another table called input. At the moment this table only captures the information that is entered, not the user_id or username of the inputter. I would like the form to be able to input the user_id and/or username from the login table into the input table. Please could somebody talk me through this process? I am sure that once this is amended, I will then be able to use the table to only allow the logged in user to access the information that he or she have inputted, is that correct? Many thanks

• Does HTML5 only replace the video aspects of Flash/Silverlight?

  I see a lot of talk how HTML5 video tag will kill Flash. But while video is the most widely used part of Flash/SL, it's only a small part of their technical abilities. For instance you can write a game using full 3D graphics and socket connections in Flex, and serious business applications, etc. Is the thinking that Javascript will kill those parts of Flash/Flex/SL? Because while that seems feasible now for even quite rich web-apps, what about any kind of high-performance app like real-time graphics?

The detail of it is not important, but what I want to know is: since it is not a model-related chunk of code, it really can be use anywhere: in controllers, in models, in view helpers; even in views. So I am unsure where and, even bigger of a problem, how to activate the use of it once I place it in some location. Is it what those "require" statements are all about? That you can acquire some functionality through a "require" statement in the current file you are working on? Just so that we have an example to talk about, say, I have a little snippet of code that does cubing: def cube_it(num) num**3 end I know that I will be using it in various places across the application, so where should I put it? and when I do need to use it, how can I "summon" it? And the parent disappears even if the mouse is still inside it.

• How can I get Weblogic to connect to a RedBrick database?

  I am trying to get Weblogic 9.2.3 to talk to a legacy RedBrick database and am having trouble. I have the redbrick.jar file from the software installation and have added to my APP_RUNTIME_CLASSPATH and my MANIFEST_CLASSPATH. This is my jConnect template line: <url>jdbc:rbw:protocol:${DB_LT_SERVER}:${DB_LT_PORT}/${DB_LT_NAME}</url> <driver-name>redbrick.jdbc.RBWDriver</driver-name> (Variables get replaced with good values during build.) When starting up I get this error: weblogic.common.ResourceException: Unknown Data Source jConnectLT weblogic.common.resourcepool.ResourceSystemException: Cannot load driver class: redbrick.jdbc.RBWDriver Do I have to do more to make Weblogic see the RedBrick database? • ORM Against a Service-Wrapped Data Source

  We are tasked with migrating an existing set of entities (currently POCOs persisted with NHibernate against an MSSQL database) to now persist to some kind of web service (yet to be built, either RESTful or SOAP-based, and that we control). I like how NHibernate encapsulates the persistence concerns and lets us maintain a logic-rich, persistence-agnostic domain model. Is there any way to make NHibernate talk to a web service at the back end instead of a SQL database directly? In other words, can "service instead of SQL database" be treated as a persistence implementation detail and allow us to continue to use NHibernate? Am I asking the right question? :)

  Okay first of all let me just say Zend Framework is the greatest tool I have ever used in 30+ years of programming (well, for web development, Qt wins the desktop market). However, through my use I have noticed some glaring and annoying inconsistencies. For instance, Zend_Form_Element's have a setAttrib() method. Now why the hell is this the only method in that API which is abbrev.? Why then am I using setRequired() instead of setReq()? I have more examples, I am extremely nerd raged about this.   How do you calculate the linux process's Acutal Memory Usage and Not Virtual Memory Usage through the information supplied by /proc//smaps or maps or status or stat. To be more precise I need the heap usage only. I need to do this on an PowerPc based embedded system and hence I do not have utilities like exmap, valgrind etc. I understand the concepts of shared/non shared memory.   I'm currently working on some code for my Programming Languages course. I can't post the code but I'm permitted to talk about some high level concepts that I'm struggling with and receive input on them. Basically the code is a recursive DFS on a undirected graph that I'm supposed to convert to a concurrent program. My professor already specified that I should create my threads in the recursive DFS method and then join them in another method. Basically, I'm having trouble thinking of how I should keep track of the threads I'm creating so I can join all of them in the other method. I'm thinking an array of Threads but I'm unsure how to add each new thread to the array or even if that's the right direction.

• Game Objects Talking To Each Other

  What is a good way of dealing with objects and having them talk to each other? Up until now all my games hobby/student have been small so this problem was generally solved in a rather ugly way, which lead to tight integration and circular dependencies. Which was fine for the size of projects I was doing. However my projects have been getting bigger in size and complexity and now I want to start re-using code, and making my head a simpler place. The main problem I have is generally along the lines of Player needs to know about the Map and so does the Enemy, this has usually descended into setting lots of pointers and having lots of dependencies, and this becomes a mess quickly. I have thought along the lines of a message style system. but I cant really see how this reduces the dependencies, as I would still be sending the pointers everywhere. Thanks. I have been talking about what scala can do and the other coders seem to gain some interest in the language. The tough job is, how do you convince your boss to consider scala as a language for the company. I saw the presentation "Sneaking Scala into your company", but it deals with the situation that you are using Java at your company which we don't. How do you fight of the usual "that is just esoteric stuff" and "we can already do that in $LANGUAGE" arguments. • Android: Communication with host computer

  I am looking for ideas as to how all of you can think to solve this issue. I am going to be using an Android Tablet as basically a touch screen input for a project. I need to be able to control servos and solenoids and such, so I will be using a Raspberry Pi to do this. I am looking for ideas on how to get the tablet and the Raspberry Pi to talk. Here are a few that I have though of so far. Use Wifi (which I really do not want to, Ethernet would be okay) to ssh into the Raspberry Pi (with an external library) and run scripts that way from the Android app. Use a com port for Android (maybe Andropod if there hardware becomes available?) and run scripts on the Raspberry Pi. Those are probably two of the "best" ideas that I can think of for now. Can anyone think of any other "better" ideas? Thanks in advance for the help, Dan
