• Missing menu items for Azure SQL tables within SQL Server Management Studio?

  I have a table (say Table1) that is replicated via SQL Data Sync Agent across a local SQL Server 2012 as well as an Azure SQL Server (part of Microsoft Azure). Everything about Table1 (schema, table values etc ) is identical to the best of my understanding. However, when I list and right click Table1 from Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2012 (SSMS), I get some very different menu options, even for seemingly basic stuff. Lets focus only on the 'Design' menu item: It is visible for Table1 on the local SQL server in SSMS It is missing for Table1 on Azure SQL via SSMS It is visible for Table1 (as Open Table Definition) on Azure SQL when reaching it via Visual Studio 2012 (Server Explorer - Data connections) This is seen in the screenshots below: Now I use scripts from some real stuff (esp when I need to check in the SQL scripts etc) but this difference concerns me to some extent. Am I witnessing just a tools artifact in SQL Server Management Studio when connecting to Azure SQL? or is it something more serious about limitations of Azure SQL itself (although, just seeing the Design surface is so basic!)?

• RAID1: Migrate HHD to SSD?

  My current workstation uses an Adaptec 5805, with Win2008 mirrored between two 72 GB (10K?) savvio drives. My question is if there's a way to migrate the mirror to use SSDs - I've been looking at 90GB Corsair Force (Sandy Bridge) to replace the existing setup. If it's possible, without installing the OS fresh. If I replaced the mirrored drive with an SSD, would the array sync the drives? Then I could promote the SSD mirror to be the primary, and use the second SSD as the mirror. That'd be too easy... Or should use Ghost to get an image of the existing setup, apply it to the SSD for a new mirror to be setup on?

• Dhcp clients fail after successful import of server to new machine

  I transfered the configs of a dhcp server from one server to another both running Windows Server 2003 R2 following http [://] support.microsoft.com/kb/325473. The new server has a statically configured ip(outside the scope) like the old one. Stopped the server on the old, and started up in the new server (authorized too) - but when I ipconfig /renew from a client its network interface fails with all 0.0.0.0 (or 169...*). I read somewhere I need to reconcile the scope to sync the new registry values ('ll try this tomorrow). What other troubleshooting steps can I take other than these (which didn't help)? Things work fine when the old server resurrects and the new one is taken down. The new server showed there was no requests for offer.

• Excel: Look up function for combinations of cells in a single column

  I'm looking to find the number of times a certain combination of values appears in a single column, I was hoping to do this in Excel but I'm starting to think it may not be possible. As an example, I have a list that looks like a longer vertical version of this: F1 F3 F2 F4 F1 F3 F4 F1 F3 F4 F1 F3 F4 And I want to know how many times a specific order (say F1 F3 F4) occurs, in this example 3 times (in my case the lookup sequences are 8 cells long). Is there a way to run over the whole column and identify the instances where this combination of cells occurs? I'm running Excel 2008 for Mac. Many thanks!

  I mount NFSv4 export via /etc/fstab and mount and use the shared folder in nautilus. There are two issues: When I copy a large file (around 4 GB) to the NFS server, the progress bar rapidly goes to 2 GB and then basically stops moving. But the copy s still in progress - it is just not displayed well When I disconnect from the network without unmounting the nfs share, nautilus freezes. • How to efficiently dump a huge MySQL innodb database?

  I got an Ubuntu 10.04 production MySQL database server where total size of database is 260 GB while size of root partition is itself 300 GB where DB is stored, essentially means around 96% of / is full and there's no space left for storing dump/backup etc. No other disk is attached to server as of now. My task is to migrate this database to other server sitting in different datacenter. Question is how to do that efficiently with minimum downtime? I'm thinking in line of: Request to attach an extra drive to server and take a dump in that drive. Transfer dump to new server, restore it and make new server slave of existing one to keep data in sync When migration is needed, break replication, update slave config to accept read/write requests and make old server read-only so it won't entertain any write requests and tell app developers to update there config with new IP address for db. What's your suggestions to improve this or any alternate better approach for this task?

• Terminal Server 2003 Gaining Time when Windows 7 Client Connects

  A Windows 2003 Terminal Server keeps time perfectly until a Windows 7 Home client connects. Then it gains time at a rate of several seconds per minute. The client connects through a firewall with only the RDP port open. The client runs the same apps on the terminal server that XP clients run with no issues. Using the Microsoft Terminal Server Client application copied to the W7 computer from an XPsp3 computer gives the same results. Current workaround is to sync time every 5 minutes. Any better ideas?

• How to apply Outlook Junk Mail rules using Hotmail Connector?

  I use Outlook 2010 with Hotmail connector. MS says that you can sync your Outlook rules with your Hotmail but I cant see how. My actual problem is - I add a guy to my Junk blocked senders list (and I check it visually - it is in the list). But I keep receiving emails from this guy. It doesnt go to the Junk folder in Outlook. I need my Outlook to honor the rules locally at least. Is it possible?

The problem is the script works fine .. but I tried to add it to the crontab. And the script executes but not the s3 sync/mv part ! • Linux Software Raid runs checkarray on the First Sunday of the Month? Why?

  It looks like Debian has a default to run checkarray on the first Sunday of the month. This causes massive performance problems and heavy disk usage for 12 hours on my 2TB mirror. Doing this "just in case" is bizzare to me. Discovering data out of sync between the two disks without quorum would be a failure anyway. This massive checking could only tell me that I have an unrecoverable drive failure and corrupt data. Which is nice, but not all that helpful. Is it necessary? Given I have no disk errors and no reason to believe my disks have failed, why is this check necessary? • Bad HD video deinterlacing processing

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit with Unity. My system configuration is: CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz) RAM: 8192 Mb DDR2 Kingston Video: Palit GeForce GTX 260 216 SP, and my screen resolution is 1680x1050. I also have Window 7 Ulitimate installed, and I can see the same files in Media Player Classic without any horizontal lines. I've installed vdpau driver, NVIDIA drivers 304.51, and MPlayer 2 (within SMPlayer). I've disabled "Sync to VBlank" option in CCSM (because in other way, by default, MPlayer process use about 50-60 percents of my processor load), tried to swich between different deinterlace options in SMPlayer, used "-vc ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau" (without quotes) parameters for MPlayer, switched to "Ubuntu 2D", but, finally, have no results. Any suggestions? How must I to set up MPlayer?

  I have a virtualised Windows XP SP3 machine, which I am connecting to over Remote Desktop. One of my scripts needs to use the %sessionname% variable. However this returns incorrect information. C:\>%sessionname% constantly returns RDP-Tcp#5, instead of the value for the currently connected session (RDP-Tcp#35 or similar), as shown in Task Manager This causes my scripts to contain incorrect information. What can I do to resolve this? Edit Further Information: A restart appears to solve the problem for the first connection, but then subsequent connections have the numbers fall out of sync again.

• Is there DBus command to set position of KDE panel?

  I have single vertical KDE panel. When I switch from single monitor X screen back to triple monitor X screen (with xrandr) my KDE panel ends up on the right edge of middle monitor, instead of right edge of right monitor. Also, many windows are in wrong place after the switch, but I have a script which restores geometry of all windows (as is used to be in triple monitor state before I switched to single monitor mode), so this is not a problem. Unfortunately, it does not work for KDE panel - it stays in the wrong place. I guess I need to use DBus to restore KDE panel position (programmatically move it to right edge of right screen), I tried googling, but it seems it is not very well documented. Is there DBus command to set position of KDE panel?

• SSH rsa key works with external IP not internal IP

  I am using rackspace cloud hosting. I have 2 servers behind a load balancer. Each server has an external IP and an internal IP. I want to setup a sync job that uses SSH to transfer files. I made an rsa key, and I can successfully SSH from server A into server B, using the external IP of server B, without being prompted for a password. If I try to do the same but use the internal IP, it prompts me for a password. I want to be able to use the key instead of the password. Why is this? Is there something special I have to do during key generation so it works for both IPs? Any help is appreciated.

  I was hoping to get some further information on any possible Do's and Don't when it comes to installing, using and maintaining iTunes within a Termina Server environment. We have come across a situation in our company whereby some of our users who are using thin clients now need the ability to sync, update and manage their devices, previously they used either standard desktop systems or laptops so there was no issue with running iTunes. I have not found much information on the web about using iTunes within a Terminal Server Farm, Id like to find out if iTunes works within the environment, any known or common issues that occur due to running it like this.

• Editor that supports renaming tabs for untitled docs?

  I sometimes need to copy/paste text into two windows and compare the contents for a quick hack, ie. without having to save both documents to disk, and display the two docs side-by-side vertically so I can scroll them independantly (WinMerge doesn't seem to support independent scrolling.) Since the documents only live in RAM, text editors will display a non-descript tab/filename like "Untitled1" or "New file 1": http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1153/sidebysideunleddocs.jpg Does someone know of a Windows editor that supports... renaming tabs with more descriptive names even with documents that haven't been saved to disk, side-by-side, vertical tiling, and independant scrolling? • Enabling Compiz Viewport Switcher key bindings

  I'm running compiz 0.8.2 with compizconfig on Scientific Linux 6.2 with Gnome 2.28.2. In the compizconfig "General Options" I have "Desktop Size" set as follows: Horizontal Virtual Size: 6 Vertical Virtual Size: 1 Number of Desktops: 1 This gets me the layout I want, i.e. 6 workspaces in a horizontal layout. Ctrl-alt-cursor-keys work fine for switching between them. However, I can't figure out how to get key bindings for specific workspaces. I've tried enabling "Viewport Switcher" in compizconfig, and tried various combinations both in "Number-based viewport switching" and "Go to specific viewport", to no apparent effect. My first thought was that something else was eating the specific key bindings I chose, but I think I've tried every combination of shift, control, alt and super (i.e., the Windows key) by now. I tried setting 6 desktops under "General Options" instead of one desktop with horizontal virtual size 6, but that doesn't seem to make a difference either. What am I missing?

• Conflicts with MS Office temporary files when using Offline Folders on Vista

  We are using Offline Folders feature of Windows Vista to make files on network shares available when out of office. Mostly it is working, but every time I do a sync I get a lot of such errors: D500E7B8.tmp - A file was deleted on this computer and changed on the server while this computer was offline. There are hundreds of them. I always select all of them and choose resolution "Delete from both locations". But what is causing this and how can I avoid it? I suspect the reason is that we are using Debian and Samba (3.4.7) on our file server. I've been looking for some Samba options that would cure this, but with no success. I learned that probably the cause is, that both Word and Excel are using specific pattern to change files - they never change the original file, but instead always write a new temporary file and rename it to original file, when you click Save. • How can I convert and repair MPEG-TS (DVB-S captures) for better playback?

  I have a lot of MPEG-TS video files (H.264 video with AC3 or MP3 in a .TS container) captured from a DVB-S capture card. When I play these videos it's much slower to seek in the video (ie. skip 30 seconds, etc) than with other files. I'm not sure if the problem is the H.264 encoding (reference frame count?) or the MPEG-TS container, or if the MPEG-TS file contains sync errors, etc. Does anybody have a good workflow for converting and repairing these files?

• How to embed word doc as background picture of an Access report using .EMF or equivalent ?

  My company's standard paper has logo, address and all the details in the right margin with a vertical blue line. I have that as a word template. I want to have the same thing as the background of my Invoices report. I managed to do that 5 years ago by saving to EMF format (vector format, prints out nicely) and putting the file as the background of the report. Now my company is moving, and I need to change the address on my invoices, but I can't find out how I did to convert the word doc to EMF. Any suggestion ? By EMF or another process, but I want to avoid BMP, which is huge and does not print nicely. Thanks !

• How do I update the memberOf attributes of existing objects after adding the OpenLDAP Reverse Group Membership Maintenance overlay?

  This is a follow-up to this question: I added the memberof overlay to an existing OpenLDAP 2.4 server. Now I want to update the existing user objects. For new group memberships, the memberOf attribute is updated correctly. But I have a bunch of existing groups which aren't updated automatically. I could remove all users from their groups and re-add them to make sure these entries are in sync. Since this is a Univention Corporate Server which does a lot of magic when you modify the LDAP, I don't want to risk breaking my directory. Is there a way to trick the overlay to update these operational attributes?

• PhpMyAdmin Hangs On MySQL Error

  I'm currently running PhpMyAdmin 4.0.10 (the latest version supporting PHP 4.2.X) on my Amazon EC2 connecting to a MySQL database on RDS. Everything works perfectly fine except actions that return a mysql error message. Whether I perform "any" kind of action that will return a mysql error, Phpmyadmin will hang with the yellow "Loading" box forever without displaying anything. For example, if I perform the following command in MySQL CLI : select * from 123; It instantly returns the following error : ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '123' at line 1 which is completely normal because table 123 doesn't exist. However, if I execute the exact same command in the "SQL" box in Phpmyadmin, after I click "Go" it'll display "Loading" and stops there forever. Has anyone ever encountered this kind of issue with Phpmyadmin? Is this a bug or I have something wrong with my config.inc.php? Any help would be much appreciated. • Backing up data (including mysqldumps) to S3

  We have a web app on a number of servers and we want to add an additional layer of redundancy by backing up the key data to S3. The key data is the MySQL database and a folder containing dynamically created site assets - predominantly images. Some kind of rsync based solution would initially seem the best plan. A couple of years ago we played with S3cmd (in particular s3cmd sync) with some success but we didn't find it particularly reliable although this may have changed since. Its occurred to me though that a rsync solution might not work particularly well with a single db.sql file created with mysqldump and I assume this means the whole database getting transferred each time, with multiple databases of over 1GB this is going to add up to a lot of traffic (and $s) very quickly. With the image files I could simply just transfer files modified within the last day which would be far more simple. What approach should I look at?
