  • Batch-Renaming Movies using Regex

    So, I've been trying to rename some movie files using regular expressions, but so far I have been only marginally successful. The goal is to parse files like this: 2001.A.Space.Odyssey.1968.720p.BluRay.DD5.1.x264-LiNG.mkv And rename them Like this: 2001 A Space Odyssey (1968).mkv I created the pattern: ^(.+).(\d{4}).+.(mp4|avi|mkv)$ With the output: \1 (\2).\3 Now, this works perfectly fine when I have movies with one-word titles, but when there is more than one word separated by a period, the regex fails to grab anything. What am I doing wrong here?

  • I am trying to zip files individually, but the file type is unknown

    I am trying to zip some files with an unknown file type individually. I am using the following code in a batch script to do that: @ECHO OFF FOR %%A IN (bestbuy*nat*component.cpi*) DO "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a -mx9 -m0=lzma2:d256m "%%~nA.7z" "%%A" The code will compress files individually ONLY if the file has an extension. Unfortunately the files that I have don't have any extension. In the code I am trying to zip files by doing a pattern match, the files are getting compressed into ONE file (which I do not want, I want each file compressed individually). Why does this code create separate zip files when the files have an extension (for example if I add .txt to the end of the files) and when there is no extension the code creates one zipped file. Can anyone please help me with the code to compress files with unknown file type so that each file gets compressed individually Your help would be greatly appreciated. Jason

  • How to batch rename files using bash

    I know there are lots of such questions, but I couldn't find one (or a combination of several), which describes the things I want to do. I think I need to use regular expressions, but I am not very good with that. I use zsh. I have a folder with files, which I want to rename: I want the files challenge1.rb, challenge2.rb, challenge3.rb, etc. to be renamed to c1.rb, c2.rb etc. Similarly task1.rb and similar must be renamed to t1.rb etc. sample_spec_c1.rb, sample_spec_c2.rb etc. must be renamed to c1_spec.rb, c2_spec.rb etc. So I guess I need some combination of regular expressions and iteration, but I don't know how to write the bash script.

  • System Center Essentials server running out of disk space due to stored old updates

    We have a System Center Essentials (SCE) server to filter updates to our laptops. We've configured it to download the update, and then the laptops get the update from this server; this of course reduces our internet bandwidth and the time it takes for employees to receive the updates, which reduces the complaints we get about how long updates take. However we currently have a total of 2,255 updates stored on the server. SCE gives a breakdown: Updates with installation errors: 29 Updates needed by computers: 280 Updates installed/up-to-date: 0 Updates with no status: 1946 Our little server has 68gb of hard disk space, and the updates are currently taking 32gb and counting. Some of the updates date back to 2003, but we can't figure out a way to delete them to free up space on the server. Right-clicking an update and clicking Uninstall threatens to remove the update from all computers, which is not what we want. Some of the updates even inform us upon viewing: This update has been replaced by a newer update. Before declining this update, it is recommended that you approve the new update first and verify that this update is no longer needed by any computers. How do you prevent your SCE server from filling its hard drive space? Is there a way to configure the server to only keep updates that are still needed? Furthermore, why (in the above breakdown of updates) are there so many updates with "no status" and 0 updates that are "installed/up-to-date"?

  • Batch deletion of smaller files from group of files via unix command line

    I have a large number (more than 400) of directories full of photos. What I want to do is to keep the larger sizes of these photos. Each directory has 31 to 66 files in it. Each directory has thumbnails, and larger versions, plus a file called example.jpg I dispatched the example.jpg file easily with: rm */example.jpg I initially thought that it would be easy to delete the thumbnails, but the problem is they are not consistently named. The typical pattern was photo1.jpg and photo1s.jpg. I did rm */photo*s.jpg but it ended up some of the files named photoXs.jpg were actually larger and not smaller. Argh. So what I want to do is scan each directory for filesize and delete (or move) the thumbnails. I initially thought I'd just ls -R every file and extract the size of each file and save those under a threshold. The problem? In one directory the large will be 1.1 MB and the thumb is 200k. In another the large is 200k and the small 30k. Even worse, the files really are mostly named photo1.jpg - so simply putting them all in the same folder, sorting by size, and deleting in groups would not work without renaming already, and if it's possible I'd prefer to keep them in their folders. I was almost resolved to just doing this all manually, but then thought I'd ask here. How would you do this task?

Do you want to? #disneyrocks" "We dont like disney.#disneyrocks we are not going" ".@socialguy what are you upto #disneyrocks " I need to employ 5 filters with above file to get def.txt Delete all lines which start with @ character, like 1st and 3rd Delete all lines which start with .@ characters, like 7th Delete all lines which don't have any word starting with # like 2nd and 3rd In leftover lines, Delete all words starting with @ character (keeping the lines intact) like words @happy55 in 2nd , @social99 & @gg99 in 3rd, etc. In this case we still need to preserve quotes " at start and end of line Delete all the blank lines left after above lines are removed EDIT if i have following line , it wrongly deletes the content after @word's "btw arnold was great in that movie @tt101 @gb1997 #whatthehell" is edited to "btw arnold was great in that movie" Thanks

  • Setup.exe called from a batch file crashes with error 0x0000006

    We're going to be installing some new software on pretty much all of our computers and I'm trying to setup a GPO to do it. We're running a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller and all of our machines are Windows 7. The GPO calls the following script which sits on a network share on our file server. The script it self calls an executable that sits on another network share on another server. The executable will imediatelly crash with an error 0x0000006. The event log just says this: Windows cannot access the file for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program Setup.exe because of this error. Here's the script (which is stored on \\WIN2K8R2-F-01\Remote Applications): @ECHO OFF IF DEFINED ProgramFiles(x86) ( ECHO DEBUG: 64-bit platform SET _path="C:\Program Files (x86)\Canam" ) ELSE ( ECHO DEBUG: 32-bit platform SET _path="C:\Program Files\Canam" ) IF NOT EXIST %_path% ( ECHO DEBUG: Folder does not exist PUSHD \\WIN2K8R2-PSA-01\PSA Data\Client START "" "Setup.exe" "/q" POPD ) ELSE ( ECHO DEBUG: Folder exists ) Running the script manually as administrator also results in the same error. Setting up a shortcut with the same target and parameters works perfectly. Manually calling the executable also works. Not sure if it matters, but the installer is based on dotNETInstaller. I don't know what version though. I'd appreciate any suggestions on fixing this. Thanks in advance! UPDATE I highly doubt this matters, but the network share that the script is hosted in is a shared drive, while the network share the script references for the executable is a shared folder. Also, both shares have Domain Computers listed with full access for the sharing and security tabs. And PUSHD works without wrapping the path in quotes.

  • Need leading zero for batch script using %time% variable

    Hi, I came across a bug in my DOS script that uses date and time data for file naming. The problem was I ended up with a gap because the time variable didn't automatically provide leading zero for hour < 10. So running echo %time% gives back: ' 9:29:17.88'. Does anyone know of a way to conditionally pad leading zeros to fix this? More info: My filename set command is: set logfile=C:\Temp\robolog_%date:~-4%%date:~4,2%%date:~7,2%_%time:~0,2%%time:~3,2%%time:~6,2%.log which ends up being: C:\Temp\robolog_20100602_ 93208.log (for 9:23 in the morning).   • Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running

    This morning I attempted to run Windows Update on two of my Windows 7 PCs (both are virtual machines), and I ran into this interesting pop-up error message. I have never encountered this problem before, so I was somewhat perplexed. From the message, my first thought was to see if the Windows Update service was running. It was. As usual, the solution is never so simple. I attempted to restart the service and reboot the PCs to no avail. So, I am off to the interwebs for a solution. I did find a solution to the problem, so I thought to post it for my future reference and for anyone else who may encounter this problem. I will be posting the answer shortly. If you have alternate solutions that have worked for you, please feel free to leave a post or comment.

  • organizing images by resolution with batch files

    Doing some digging I'm trying to figure out a command line solution for organizing very large archives of images based on their resolution into folders, 1920x1080, 1600x1200, 1600x900, etc. I've come across a few post on Superuser mentioning something called ImageMagick, is that the best method to the madness I'm trying to accomplish? I've never used any command line functions/applets/tools other then those that come from Microsoft. I'm rather new to command line usage but ive been enjoying the hell out of it using Powershell, xcopy and robocopy. I am slowly trying to push myself further into the Linux world with Ubuntu running on one of my physical machines as well as a virtual machine so that's an option as well.

  • Java Deployment with automatic updates (without user confirmation)

    Here in our company our users use 1 Java application which is updated every monday and always needs the latest java update. We install Java on Clients through SCCM 2012 R2. I already know how to this, the only thing i can't figure out is how to automatically update Java on computers. This has to be silent, so we don't want users to get a pop up asking if they want to install the latest the Java update. We want Java to autoupdate when users logon on monday morning, with no possibility to cancel it. (At least no obvious way to cancel it, so no cancel button or anything basic) Been searching on google for a while now but most scenario's involve NOT wanting autoupdate.

    Hi, I need to schedule a task in Windows Server 2003 that executes this script that deletes files older that n days in the specified folder. The script needs 3 parameters: %1 path to folder where files need to be deleted %2 file names (es. *.log) %3 number of days @echo off forfiles -p %1 -s -m %2 -d -%3 -c "cmd /c del /q @path" The script works fine if the first parameter has no spaces inside. This is an example of parameters that work: "C:\Program Files\SCRIPT\DeleteFilesOlderThanXDays.cmd" N:\FOLDER\FOLDER *.zip 60 This is an example that does not work: "C:\Program Files\SCRIPT\DeleteFilesOlderThanXDays.cmd" N:\Program Files\LOG *.zip 60 This does not work too: "C:\Program Files\SCRIPT\DeleteFilesOlderThanXDays.cmd" "N:\Program Files\LOG" *.zip 60 I think it would be a quotes problem but I can't figure out the solution.     I wanted to know if possible how to create a command line to do the following - if a directory exist ZIP only the contents into a ZIP file. If a directory has sub-directories ZIP only the contents into another ZIP file. Example: C:\Directory\sample.txt ZIP only sample.txt C:\Directory\Directory1\sample1.txt ZIP only sample1.txt C:\Directory\Directory1\Directory2\sample2.txt ZIP only sample2.txt So it would have created 3 zip files in C:\Directory and sub-directories. I will not know the name of the sub-directories so can I also assign some sort of variable that says if there are directories or sub-directories in C:\Directory then start above ZIP(s)? Folders will be the same; not more than 100 folders and their sub-folders, and there will only be 2 or 3 files at time in any one of the folders. Now the issues is that for one folder it works perfect, but for 80 to 90 folders it is taking too much time. I think it's because of findstr and the different extensions used. Is there any way to make it faster?

    I am getting an error message to the effect of unable to move files to a single file. I am not trying to do this. What I am trying to do is move files from one folder to another folder (staging) and then deleting the original folder. If you can show me a better way to do this since I am not doing this correctly.     I have a bat file on Windows7 that I used to run. Now I am not able to run it because of Access is denied error. My account is part of administrator group.     I can open a cmd window and start a tail by entering something like this: tail -f C:\Oracle\WebCenter\Sites\11gR1\Sites\11.1.1.6.1\logs\sites.log This is probably a stupid question, but how do I do this in a batch file? It should be easy but it's not working - I have tried a couple variations and no success. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here?   • How to batch edit a list of files?

    I have a list of files where I need to remove some lines that have been added yesterday by a spambot. The section I want to remove looks like this: ^M <script>[...] bunch of malware code [...]</script> That section seems to have been appended to the files, so I can be relatively sure it's the last lines of each file that contain this part. Now I know a bit of Linux, but not enough to do this via a command. How would I go about and do this?
