• Expression Blend doesn't recognize comand objects declared in code behind file

  I have a WPF UserControl. The code behind file declares some RoutedUICommand objects which are referenced in the XAML. The application builds and runs just fine. However Expression Blend 3 cannot load the XAML in the designer and gives errors like this one: The member "ResetCameraComand" is not recognized or accessible. The class and the member are both public. Building and rebuilding the project in Blend and restarting Blend hasn't helped. Any ideas what the problem is? • Git Workflow With Capistrano

  I'm trying to get my head around a good git workflow using capistrano. I've found a few good articles, but I'm either not grasping completely what they're suggesting (likely) or they're somewhat lacking. Here's kind of what I had in mind so far, but I get caught up when to merge back into the master branch (i.e. before moving to stage? after?) and trying to hook it into capistrano for deployments: Make sure you’re up to date with all the changes made on the remote master branch by other developers git checkout master git pull Create a new branch that pertains to the particular bug you're trying to fix git checkout -b bug-fix-branch Make your changes git status git add . git commit -m "Friendly message about the commit" So, this is usually where I get stuck. At this point, I have a master branch that is healthy and a new bug-fix-branch that contains my (untested -- other than unit tests) changes. If I want to push my changes to stage (through cap staging deploy), do I have to merge my changes back into the master branch (I'd prefer not to since it seems like master should be kept free of untested code)? Do I even deploy from master (or should I be tagging a release first and then modifying my production.rb file to deploy from that tag)? git-deployment seems to address some of these workflow issues, but I can't seem to find out how on earth it actually hooks into cap staging deploy and cap production deploy. Thoughts? I assume there's a likely canonical way to do this, but I either can't find it or I'm too new to git to recognize that I have found it. Help!

• Need a workaround to filter on related model and aggregated fields in Django

  I opened a ticket for this problem. In a nutshell here is my model: class Plan(models.Model): cap = models.IntegerField() class Phone(models.Model): plan = models.ForeignKey(Plan, related_name='phones') class Call(models.Model): phone = models.ForeignKey(Phone, related_name='calls') cost = models.IntegerField() I want to run a query like this one: Phone.objects.annotate(total_cost=Sum('calls__cost')).filter(total_cost__gte=0.5*F('plan__cap')) Unfortunately Django generates bad SQL: SELECT "app_phone"."id", "app_phone"."plan_id", SUM("app_call"."cost") AS "total_cost" FROM "app_phone" INNER JOIN "app_plan" ON ("app_phone"."plan_id" = "app_plan"."id") LEFT OUTER JOIN "app_call" ON ("app_phone"."id" = "app_call"."phone_id") GROUP BY "app_phone"."id", "app_phone"."plan_id" HAVING SUM("app_call"."cost") >= 0.5 * "app_plan"."cap" and errors with: ProgrammingError: column "app_plan.cap" must appear in the GROUP BY clause or be used in an aggregate function LINE 1: ...."plan_id" HAVING SUM("app_call"."cost") >= 0.5 * "app_plan"....   Hi, I am experimenting with linux capabilities for java application ... I do not want to add capabilities to interpreter (JVM), so I tried to write simple wrapper (with debugging information printed to stdout): #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <sys/capability.h> #include <unistd.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]){ cap_t cap = cap_get_proc(); if (!cap) { perror("cap_get_proc"); exit(1); } printf("%s: running with caps %s\n", argv[0], cap_to_text(cap, NULL)); return execlp("/usr/bin/java", "-server", "-jar", "project.jar", (char *)NULL); } This way, I can se that the capability is set for this execucatable: ./runner: running with caps = cap_net_bind_service+p And getcap shows runner = cap_net_bind_service+ip I have the capability set to be inheritable, so there should be no problem. However java still don't want to bind to privileged ports :-( I am getting this error: sun/nio/ch/Net.java:-2:in `bind': java.net.SocketException: Permission denied (NativeException) Can someone help me to resolve this? Thanks in advance

• Justifiable Perks.

      I was once the director of a start-up IT Company, and had the task of recruiting a proportion of the management team. As my background was in IT management, I was rather more familiar with recruiting Geeks for technology jobs, but here, one of my early tasks was interviewing a Marketing Director.  The small group of financiers had suggested a rather strange Irishman called  Halleran.  From my background in City of London dealing-rooms, I was slightly unprepared for the experience of interviewing anyone wearing a pink suit. Many of my older City colleagues would have required resuscitation after seeing his white leather shoes. However, nobody will accuse me of prejudging an interviewee. After all, many Linux experts who I’ve come to rely on have appeared for interview dressed as hobbits. In fact, the interview went well, and we had even settled his salary.  I was somewhat unprepared for the coda.    ‘And I will need to be provided with a Ferrari  by the company.’    ‘Hmm. That seems reasonable.’    Initially, he looked startled, and then a slow smile of victory spread across his face.    ‘What colour would you like?’ I asked genially.    ‘It has to be red.’ He looked very earnest on this point.    ‘Fine. I have to go past Hamleys on the way home this evening, so I’ll pick one up then for you.’    ‘Er.. Hamley’s is a toyshop, not a Ferrari Dealership.’    I stared at him in bafflement for a few seconds. ‘You’re not seriously asking for a real Ferrari are you?’     ‘Well, yes. Not for my own sake, you understand. I’d much prefer a simple run-about, but my position demands it. How could I maintain the necessary status in the office without one? How could I do my job in marketing when my grey Datsun was all too visible in the car Park? It is a tool of the job.’    ‘Excuse me a moment, but I must confer with the MD’    I popped out to see Chris, the MD. ‘Chris, I’m interviewing a lunatic in a pink suit who is trying to demand that a Ferrari is a precondition of his employment. I tried the ‘misunderstanding trick’ but it didn’t faze him.’     ‘Sorry, Phil, but we’ve got to hire him. The VCs insist on it. You’ve got to think of something that doesn’t involve committing to the purchase of a Ferrari. Current funding barely covers the rent for the building.’    ‘OK boss. Leave it to me.’    On return, I slapped O’Halleran’s file on the table with a genial, paternalistic smile. ‘Of course you should have a Ferrari. The only trouble is that it will require a justification document that can be presented to the board. I’m sure you’ll have no problem in preparing this document in the required format.’ The initial look of despair was quickly followed by a bland look of acquiescence. He had, earlier in the interview, argued with great eloquence his skill in preparing the tiresome documents that underpin the essential corporate and government deals that were vital to the success of this new enterprise. The justification of a Ferrari should be a doddle.     After the interview, Chris nervously asked how I’d fared.     ‘I think it is all solved.’    ‘… without promising a Ferrari, I hope.’    ‘Well, I did actually; on condition he justified it in writing.’    Chris issued a stream of invective. The strain of juggling the resources in an underfunded startup was beginning to show.    ‘Don’t worry. In the unlikely event of him coming back with the required document, I’ll give him mine.’    ‘Yours?’ He strode over to the window to stare down at the car park.    He needn’t have worried: I knew that his breed of marketing man could more easily lay an ostrich egg than to prepare a decent justification document. My Ferrari is still there at the back of my garage. Few know of the Ferrari cultivator, a simple inexpensive motorized device designed for the subsistence farmers of southern Italy. It is the very devil to start, but it creates a perfect tilth for the seedbed.

• JSF 2.x's renaissance

  JAXenter's Chris Mayer posted a column last week about the "JavaServer Faces enjoying Java EE renaissance under Oracle's stewardship". This piece discusses the adoption and increased ecosystem (component libraries, tools, runtimes, ...) since the release of JSF 2.0 as well as ongoing work on 2.2. As Cameron Purdy comments, Oracle as a company certainly has vested interest in JSF and will continue to invest in the technology. Specifically for JSF 2.2, and as this other article points out, a lot of the work has to do with alignment with HTML5 (see this example) and making the technology even more mobile-friendly (along with the main Java EE 7 "PaaS" theme of course). Chris' article concludes with "JSF appears to be the answer for highly-interactive Java-centric organisations who were hesitant of making a huge leap to JavaScript, and wanted the best RIA applications at their disposal".

• BSOD Before Windows Will Loads - Graphics Related

  Alright deep breath here: (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit btw) Today I installed Star Craft 2 Beta. After trying to log in, it had some issues where it said my device stopped working (referring to my video device I have to imagine). After I force quit the game there were some random "hot" (various colors if i remember correctly) pixels on the screen. I decided to reboot and try again with similar results. I figured that maybe my display drivers could stand to be updated (I don't frequently update them as I don't often run into problems). I went out to nVidia's website and grabbed the latest drivers for Windows 7 64 bit GeForce 9 series. (I have SLi-ed 9800 GTs). Everything seemed to install fine and I performed the restart. This is when things went from bad (can't play SC2 beta ;) ) to worse (can't boot into windows!). Initially the very first splash screen - I think it's the bios splash screen - had lines of colored pixels covering it. It then displayed a screen that had lots of "(" on it. After that it showed the normal windows 7 splash screen as if it were going to load into Windows. Before getting much further, it BSODed on me. It was a 0x0000003B stop error. At nvlddmkm.sys. A little digging let verified that this was a problem with an nVidia graphics device, not a real shocker. Windows decided it would try to help me diagnose the problem, which it's only answer to was a System Restore, which did nothing to alleviate the problem. I was able to boot up fine in safe mode and was not able to roll back the driver, however I did uninstall the driver and reboot. I still had the graphical anomalies during the first two screens (same colored "."'s and weird "("'s), but there was NOT a stop error. Windows loaded up, found a default driver for the device and installed it and I restarted to let it load - and had yet another BSOD Stop error. Repeat driver uninstall, this time I reloaded the same version (I think it's possible that I was running a 32 bit version or a vista versus windows 7 version, but I don't have that information handy) of the nVidia driver from their website. Restart, same anomalies, same Stop Error. I am at a loss - At this point all I can think is that the firmware for the Video cards got fried or there's actual damage to the cards which I sincerely hope is not the case but the sooner I know the better. Any insight into what I might be able to do to troubleshoot/fix this problem would be most helpful. Attached below is a dump from DxDiag.
