  • Multiple vlan issue with procurve switch

    I have a cisco asa5505 as my rtr/fw(10.1.3.254). I have vlan 1 and vlan 3. Vlan 1 is my default all access vlan. Vlan 3 is my Guest(dmz) vlan. I can't seem to get a dhcp ip address when my laptop is plugged into port 42 on my procurve. I have plugged my laptop directly into the firewall and it gets a dhcp ip fine(the firewall is dhcp server). the firewall is plugged into port 41. Only vlan3 needs to go over port 41.   • GRUB doesn't recognize partitions on one harddisk

    I have a dualboot computer with Windows Vista (on hd0) and Ubuntu 9.10. The bootloader is GRUB and the windows bootloader lets me decide between Vista and Ubuntu-Installation (broken WuBi). But now (i don't know why that changed) I can't use start the windows-bootloader anymore. I tried "ls" on the grub-prompt and it gave me a list like: (hd0) (hd1) (hd1,0) (hd1,1) (hd1,2) ... (fd0) It recognizes all partitions of hd1 (the ubuntu-harddisk) but not of hd0(the win-disk). .. WHY?     I have my mac setup to use php / mysql / apache via macports. Recently it has gone a bit pear shaped: it seems that the local mac versions of apache and mysql are running blocking the macports services: (48)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80 (48)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:443 Web sharing in System preferences is off - How can I properly disable it? I tried turning it on an off again in System Preferences but it would not changed from off to on. Also if I kill the process it starts running again.

  • ifconfig ignores alias on IPv6

    When I add an IPv4 address for the interface eth0:0 with ifconfig, it is created correctly: ifconfig eth0:0 add 192.168.10.10 This can be verified by ifconfig or "ip a". When I add an IPv6 address however, ifconfig seems to ignore the alias of the interface: ifconfig eth0:0 add fc00::2/48 The address fc00::2/48 is added to eth0 then, not to eth0:0, no matter if eth0:0 previously exists with an IPv4 address or not. I'm doing this on CentOS 5 but I guess it is a general behaviour of ifconfig? Am I doing something wrong or is this by intention? I'm using separate aliases for interfaces very often and I hoped to use it for IPv6 as well. Kind regards Marten

    Hi all, I'm trying to deploy a Snort box in my LAN. I have a Linksys SRW248G4 and trying to configure Port mirroring so that Snort can listen everything on the network in promiscuous mode. So in ADMIN / Port Mirroring, I have 3 things: Source Port (e1,...e48, g1...g4) Type (Rx, Tx, Both) Target (e1...e48, g1...g4) Last time I played with it, I killed all traffic on the switch, I had to reboot it several times... so now I'm asking question before: Do I need to configure each Source Port (from 1 to 48) to forward to the single promiscuous port ? 48 rules !? Is that correct ? Thanks !

    I have the following scenario: EX2200 Switch whit ge-0/0/6 set as an access port on VLAN 80 ge-0/0/0 set as a trunk port connected to a catalyst switch and various vlans allowed to pass includin vlan 80 On the Catalyst Switch. port #3 set up as a trunk port that receives traffic from the EX switch. port 46 is set up also as a trunk port that connects to a cisco router.   • No Telnet login prompt when used over SSH tunnel

    Hi there ! I have a device, let's call it d1, runnning a lightweight Linux. This device is NATed by my internet box/router, hence not reachable from the Internet. That device runs a telnet daemon on it, and only has root as user (no pwd). Its ip address is 192.168.0.126 on the private network. From the private network (let's say 192.168.0.x), I can do: telnet 192.168.0.126 Where 192.168.0.126 is the IP address in the private network. This works correctly. However, to allow administration, I'd need to access that device from outside of that private network. Hence, I created an SSH tunnel like this on d1 : ssh -R 4455:localhost:23 ussh@s1 s1 is a server somewhere in the private network (but this is for testing purposes only, it will endup somewhere in the Internet), running a standard Linux distro and on which I created a user called 'ussh'. s1 IP address is 192.168.0.48. When I 'telnet' with the following, let's say from c1, 192.168.0.19 : telnet -l root s1 4455 I get : Trying 192.168.0.48... Connected to 192.168.0.48. Escape character is '^]'. Connection closed by foreign host . The connection is closed after roughly 30 seconds, and I didn't log. I tried without the -l switch, without any success. I tried to 'telnet' with IP addresses instead of names to avoid reverse DNS issues (although I added to d1 /etc/hosts a line refering to s1 IP/name, just in case), no success. I tried on another port than 4455, no success. I gathered Wireshark logs from s1. I can see : s1 sends SSH data to c1, c1 ACK s1 performs an AAAA DNS request for c1, gets only the Authoritave nameservers. s1 performs an A DNS request, then gets c1's IP address s1 sends a SYN packet to c1, c1 replies with a RST/ACK s1 sends a SYN to c1, C1 RST/ACK (?) After 0.8 seconds, c1 sends a SYN to s1, s1 SYN/ACK and then c1 ACK s1 sends SSH content to d1, d1 sends an ACK back to s1 s1 retries AAAA and A DNS requests After 5 seconds, s1 retries a SYN to c1, once again it is RST/ACKed by c1. This is repeated 3 more times. The last five packets : d1 sends SSH content to s1, s1 sends ACK and FIN/ACK to c1, c1 replies with FIN/ACK, s1 sends ACK to c1. The connection seems to be closed by the telnet daemon after 22 seconds. AFAIK, there is no way to decode the SSH stream, so I'm really stuck here ... Any ideas ? Thank you !

  • WMII Terminal Width of 80 Columns for xterm (colrules)

    I'm trying to get WMII to split horizontally at 80 columns for xterm, but I'm only seeing a way to do this via percentage. It would be nice to be able to set it by something other than percentage for various resolutions, but if I have to deal with that I will. The problem is that even percentages don't work at my resolution (1366x768). 47+47 in /colrules yields 79 characters and 48+48 yields 81 characters. As far as I can tell, there is no decimal system allowed so I could do 47.5 for instance. I came from Ion3 and I'm used to using 80 column terminals, resizable by the keyboard, to get a reasonable cut off point for VIM when I'm coding. I would just settle with using the mouse, but WMII seems to be much more fluid than Ion3, so I would have to do it a LOT, which sounds annoying. Any ideas?

  • How long do managed gigabit ethernet switches take to boot up?

    One critical drawback that I have found in researching managed-switches, and one that I have some past experience with is that anything with "lots" of firmware is going to have lots of issues associated with that firmware. We are in the middle of researching rackmount gigabit switches (48 port). It looks like for 48 ports, our only choice is managed switches (Dell, Cisco/Linksys,HP, etc). What I want to know, that I can not find out much about is the boot-time for various managed switches. If you own one, can you please answer with the model number, and the cold boot time in seconds. I have read online that Linksys (now Cisco) SRW series sometimes take almost 5 minutes before they are fully booted up, and that is an unacceptable cost for us. I particularly want to know about Dell PowerConnect managed switch bootup time (model 3548 and 5448), and would like to confirm the 5-minute boot time on the SRW2048 or similar model, and any HP ProCurve boot up times. The composite of all those figures ought to form an interesting overall performance picture.

  • Cable management between multiple racks

    I am in the planning phase of re-cabling our 5 racks in one of our offices and I would like to ask for some guidance on how you go, or would go about managing cables that goes between racks. In our situation we have 5 racks where the furthest to the right is our main patch panel for 300 floor ports. The rack next to it is our main comms rack where main switches and ISP routers are located. the other 3 racks next to the comms rack then all need to connect back to the main comms rack. I am not sure if a 48 port patch panel in each rack would be any good for this scenario? mainly because i am not sure this can be linked back to the main switch with only 1 cable. Would a 48 port switch in each rack be better as you can uplink those back to main switch? Or should we just run cables between racks back to the main switch? Hope someone can offer some guidiance.     I built a Linux server (CentOS). I have an application that sends email using the Zemd_Mail class which uses SMTP. The application configuration asks for Host Port Return path (Y/N) but does not provide explanation. What do I need to set this up? Can I use a gmail account to forward the mail? When I try to send mail now, it does not arrive.   • What info is really useful in my iptables log and how do I disable the useless bits?

  • Can't access network share with name defined in hosts file

    I have a network share on a machine that I can only reach by IP address. I then defined an alias for the IP in my hosts file so I could use that instead of the IP but then I can't log on to the share, I just get the logon prompt again and again. So basically this: \\172.17.0.48\SomeShare works but this \\myalias\SomeShare doesn't. myalias is defined in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts as 172.17.0.48 myalias And I can use the alias for remote desktop without problems. Can anyone tell me why this doesn't work for fileshares?

  • Mail being delivered to both old and new server.

    Two days ago I migrated our old site to a new server. I turned down the ttl before I did it and some email is still going to our old server and some to our new after a little over 48 hours. Both these are on shared hostgator sites. From what I can tell everything is set up properly. An nslookup points to the right ip address. Any insight? Support just tells me that everything is set up properly and I have to wait for propagation. I've never had it take over 48 hours though.

    I have a bunch of comparison data and a lot of entries being compared. As an example, say my sheet looks like this, give or take a few columns: Item Price1 Quantity1 Price2 Quantity2 Price3 Quantity3 001 $123 12 $456 24 $789 48 002 $100 95 $200 5 $300 51 For each item (row), I want to be able to look at all of the Quantity columns and find which one has the highest quantity. Ideally I'd be able to run a condition of some sort on the entire excel sheet at once, and it would highlight in red the highest quantity. So the results would be a red "48" (qty3) for Item 001 and a red "95" (qty1) for Item 002. Only the color would change, not any data, and no new rows would need to be created.   • Juju Zookeeper & Provisioning Agent Not Deployed

    I am using juju with the openstack provider, i expected that when i bootstrap that zookeeper and provisioning agent would get deployed on the bootstrap vm in openstack. This dose not seem to be the case. the bootstrap vm gets deployed but it seems that nothing gets deployed to the VM. Pinging is enabled on the router too. I briefly had a static configuration working but it died after the first reboot. Please let me know what other info you might need. I am beyond frustrated/baffled.
