  • routing mvc on the web

    Hi, I was wondering if anyone could possibly provide me some advice on how i could improve the routing (and/or architecture) to each 'section' of my application. (I'm writing in PHP5, and trying to use strict MVC) Basically, I have a generic index page for the app, and that will spew out boilerplate stuff like jquery and the css etc. and it also generates the main navidation for the entire site, but i'm unsure about the best approach to connect the 'main menu' items(hyperlinks) with their associated controllers. Up until now I have been appending strings into the url and using a 'switch' statement to branch to the correct controller(and view) by extracting the strings back out of '$GET[]' to let it execute the code for the corrosponding action. for instance if i had a basic crud system for customer data, the url to edit a customers details would look like 'www.example.com/index.php?page=customer&action=edit&id=4'. I'm worried that there is a security concern by doing it this way, and i'm not sure of an alternative to branch the main 'index.php' file to the correct controller for each action once the user has clicked the link. Would it be better to use mod_rewrite to disguise the controllers names? or to create a similar system to the ASP MVC framework, where there is a seperate routing system where each url is filtered to get the associated controller?   • How does Hibernate detect dirty state of an entity object?

    Is it using some kind of byte codes modification to the original classes? Or, maybe Hibernate get the dirty state by compare the given object with previously persisted version? I'm having a problem with hashCode() and equals() methods for complicated objects. I feel it would be very slow to compute hash code if the object has collection members, and cyclic references are also a problem. If Hibernate won't use hashCode()/equals() to check the dirty state, I guess I should not use equals()/hashCode() for the entity object (not value object), but I'm also afraid if the same operator (==) is not enough. So, the questions are: How does Hibernate know if a property of an object is changed? Do you suggest to override the hashCode()/equals() methods for complicated objects? What if they contains cyclic references? And, also, Would hashCode()/equals() with only the id field be enough?

  • PHP elseif statement not executed even though initial if statement is false

    I am writing a recursive function to print out the differences between 2 multildimensional php arrays. The purpose of this code is to see the difference between jpeg headers to deteremine how adobe bridge cs3 is saving rating information within the jpg file. When I am single-stepping through the code using my eclipse - zend debugger ide, it appears that even though the initial if statement is false (ie both values are arrays), the subsequent elseif statements are never executed.   • Putting a simple if-then statement on one line

    I'm just getting into Python and I really like the terseness of the syntax. However; is there an easier way of writing an if-then statement so it fits on one line? For example; say I have the simple test: if count == N: count = 0 else: count = N + 1 is there a simpler way of writing this? I mean, in Objective-C I would write this as: count = count == N ? count = 0 : count = N + 1; Is there something similar for python? Edit I know that in this instance I can use count == count % N. I'm asking about the general syntax.

Am I right in assuming that I don't need a check after making the tortoise take a step forward? As I see it, the tortoise can never reach the end of the list before the hare (contrary to the fable). Any other ways to simplify/beautify this code?

    In my application I am using a third-party API. It is a non-blocking method which returns immediately. I have a collection of elements over which I have to invoke this method. Now, my problem is that I have to find a way till all the method execution gets completed and do my next operation. How can I handle this? I cannot modify the third-party API.   • Use CSS (and maybe JavaScript) to make an element be square (or maintain a specific aspect ratio)

    I have a div that I want to have the following characteristics: Width = 50% of its parent element Height equal to whatever it needs to be in order to maintain a certain aspect ratio. I need to use percentages because the object will resize left-right when the browser is resized. I want the object to be resized top-bottom to ensure the object maintains the same aspect ratio. I don't think there's any way to use pure CSS to do this, but does anyone know of a way? Alternatively, is there an easy JavaScript way to do this? (JQuery is fine.)

    I use ruby 1.9.3p194 (2012-04-20) [i386-mingw32] on Windows7 To do mySQL backup I run runas /savecred /user:yogurt\administrator "cmd.exe /k mysqldump --user=#{dbuser} --password=#{dbpassword} #{dbname} > #{dump}" - mysqldump must be executed as administrator. I do not run my ruby scripts under administrator account. runas starts new cmd.exe and ruby doesn't wait for it to finish. Dump process takes about one minute to finish. After that I zip the dump file and delete it. But I have to make sure that the dump process already finished before I do any other action on that file. Right now I use sleep(60) that works but I wonder if there any better more systematic solution.

After K steps, output the number of objects of the top five nodes which has the most objects. Some Constrains: |V|<10^5, |E|<2*10^5, K<10^7, Ci<1000 My current idea is: represent the transformation in each step with a matrix. This problem is converted to the calculation of the power of matrix. But this solution is much too slow considering |V| can be 10^5. Is there any faster way to do it?

Furthermore, it is expected to loop several (adv 40) times before doing something else, so the mostOfTheWork part would most likely be as high up as possible, even if just for readability.   • Can a generic drum unit cause a Brother HL-2170w Laser B&W printer print dirty?

    I tried a generic drum & generic toner - and it prints dirty. I also tried cleaning everything per the instructions in the documentation. Could it be a faulty drum unit? Or is it just a generic drum unit issue? I am about to buy a new drum unit, and don't want to buy generic if it will always cause this issue. Thoughts? P.S. I tried new toner cartridges (generic, but I know these work with a 'genuine drum' properly).

The computers use Novel network and each student gets their own login. Can I use my USB drive to boot into ChromiumOS from the schools computer? I dont need to access the files on my Novel Login.   • Is there a free (as in beer) Flow chart generator for COBOL Code?

    Hi I've never read COBOL in my life and have been tasked with rewriting the old COBOL code in a new language. Are there any free or free-to-try software packages out there that will generate a flow chart for a COBOL program? I've looked at "Visustin" and "Code Visual to Flowchart" Visustin blanks out part of the code and does random rotations in the demo version, which causes the demo to be less accurate. I couldn't get Code Visual Flow Chart to work correctly with our code. Know of any other packages I might try?

  • When using TCP load balancing with HAProxy, does all outbound traffic flow through the LB?

    I am setting up an app to be hosted using VMs(probably amazon, but that is not set in stone) which will require both HTTP load balancing and load balancing a large number(50k or so if possible) of persistant TCP connections. The amount of data is not all that high, but updates are frequent. Right now I am evaluating load balancers and am a bit confused about the architecture of HAProxy. If I use HAProxy to balance the TCP connections, will all the resulting traffic have to flow through the load balancer? If so, would another solution(such as LVS or even nginx_tcp_proxy_module) be a better fit?
