  • Deploy GWT Application to Google App Engine using NetBeans

    Hello, I try to deploy a GWT application, to Google App Engine using NetBeans. I had successful run GWT sample http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/tutorial/create.html using Personal GlassFish v3 Prelude Domain, by 1) Copy generated source code from StockWatcher to C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\src\java\com\google\ 2) Modify C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\nbproject\gwt.properties gwt.module=com.google.gwt.stockwatcher.StockWatcher 3) Select Personal GlassFish v3 Prelude Domain, and run. All works fine! Now, I try to select Google App Engine server, and run. However, I get the error "There is no appengine web project opened!" I check... There is file called C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\war\WEB-INF\appengine-web.xml with content <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <appengine-web-app xmlns="http://appengine.google.com/ns/1.0" xmlns:xsi='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance' xsi:schemaLocation='http://kenai.com/projects/nbappengine/downloads/download/schema/appengine-web.xsd appengine-web.xsd'> <application>StockWatcherNetbeans</application> <version>1</version> </appengine-web-app> I am using NetBeans 6.7.1 GWT4NB (GWT Plugin for NetBeans) 2.6.12 Google App Engine plugin for NetBeans from http://kenai.com/downloads/nbappengine/1.0_NetBeans671/updates.xml Anything I had missed out? Even when I right click to the project, the Deploy to Google App Engine options is disabled. And yes, please do not ask me why not use Eclipse.

  • Segmentation fault while switching QCompleter for QLineEdit [on hold]

  • Switching to workspaces view shows buggy blue background

    When switching to workspaces view everything the background turns blue. Same happens when I switch between multiple windows of the same app too. Happening after having a try with gnome shell out of curiosity. Installed through official repos like normal. Tried it out but switched back, anyone have an idea of why this is happening? Got an Intel GPU and Unity 3d. If anyone can give me some direction, thanks a lot. Update: Looks like during the switch somehow opengl was disabled. glxinfo returns: name of display: :0 Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0". This is very distressing, all I wanted to do was try out gnome3. Does anyone have an idea on how I can get opengl back? [update] Ok I found out what happened. Apparently it's not that hard to accidentally install an nvidia driver. All I had to do was remove all the stuff that had nvidia in it and I got 3d back! For anyone else, this is how I found out: check out Xorg.0.log `$ cat / var/log/Xorg.0.log | more` if you see a line like this somewhere `(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)` you got an nvidia problem Thanks everyone for trying to help :D

  • Switching mdadm to an external bitmap

    I've just read this in another post about improving RAID5/6 write speeds: After increasing stripe cache & switching to external bitmap, my speeds are 160 Mb/s writes, 260 Mb/s reads. :-D I've already found out how to increase the stripe cache and this worked pretty well but I'd like to know more about an external bitmap. I have an incredibly fast (540MB/s) RAID0 SSD that would do well if a bitmap does what I think it does but I'm still very unsure. I've only known about them as long as I've known this post. A few questions: What is a bitmap (in terms of mdadm)? What are the advantages of an internal bitmap (over external)? What are the advantages of an external bitmap (over internal)? How do I switch between the two? I should add that while this is a I'm-bored-let's-break-something thread, I do value the data stored on the RAID array. If doing this is going to put data at significant risk, please let me know.

  • Facebook App EULA & Restrictions: What can't they do that my web app can?

    I have written a nifty little web app (in Java/GWT/JS) and have been experimenting with the idea of making it available through Facebook as a Facebook App as well. After spending some time reading Facebook's developer docs, it seems like I can just create a Facebook App to point at any URL I want and use that as the app/canvas. It accomplishes this via iframes. So, my tentative plan is to just point it towards my (existing) web app so that I don't have to totally re-write it. But then that got me thinking: Facebook must regulate what sorts of things can be done through a Facebook App, vs. what an app can't do. For instance, I can't imagine I can point a Facebook App to point at a URL for a web app that accepts e-commerce payments (that would by-pass Facebook altogether and not allow them to take a cut from the ecom transaction!). Also, I can't imagine that Facebook allows developers to point their Facebook Apps to just any old URL without some sort of a scan, otherwise that would open Facebook up to the horrors of every security threat knownst to humanity. I know for a fact that when you write an iOS native app and put it up on the Apple App Store, that Apple actually scans your source code for violations of their EULA. So my question: does Facebook do the same? If so, what are their terms & conditions for what a Facebook app can/can't do? Suprisingly, I can't find this anywhere!! Thanks in advance!

  • Dualboot (Win 8 / Ubuntu 13) is stuck at 'switching to clocksource'

    for days I have been crawling the web for solutions to my problem, but couln't find any. Here it is: I got a new Laptop (ASUS Vivobook S200E) with Win 8 OEM preinstalled. I wanted to create a dual-boot system with Ubuntu 13 next to it. I read about UEFI and that I have to turn of Secure Boot and use the existing EFI partition as bootloader for Ubuntu. So I did. I also ran boot-repair reinstalling the GRUB. The result is when I start the computer I get into the boot menu. So far, so good. When I pick Win everthing is fine. But when I choose Ubuntu (recovery) the system starts, but gets stuck at the line '[1.806366] Switching to clocksource tsc'. I already tried other versions of Ubuntu (12.04.2, 12.10). I played with boot-repair (using the recommended fix, setting everything manually). But nothing works. It's always the same issue. I read that it could be a problem concerning graphic drivers, but this I can hardly believe.   • Switching To Ubuntu 14.04 from Windows 8.1

    everyone i am newto these linux stuffs. Currently i'm a user of Windows8.1 . When windows 8 was roling out i was like i'm never going to leave and will be always stick to windows8 but now i think it's time to switch linux because being in windows forever i don't think i can do something very good .I wanted to be OpenSource :) . So i really dont have any idea about linux . For me the best distro is Ubuntu and Kubuntu offcourse the latest release . So what i'm afraid of switching to linux is its compability .The compatibility i'm talking about is with the hardware's and driver's . For eg sometime after fresh install of windows we need to install the display,usb and wifi drivers to function . For some computer or brands those driver's are hard to find and i can't even think of linux how hard are they to find if it needs installing drivers. So my main question is that do i need to install the drivers for my wifi adapters display and some other stuffs or the distro i choosed i.e Ubuntu 14.0.4 consists of those dirvers and what about the 64 and 32bit . My machines is 64bit aso do i need to install the 64bit one . I mean i know the advantages of installing the 64 bit one but like windows is it kinda hard to find softwares for the 64 bit one . Or the 32 bit is recommended . And Yes I will be highly appreciated for the answers to my questions . Thank You :)

    This is not one of those questions like "How do I learn Java extremely fast, I know nothing about programming, but I heard Java is cool, yo". I have an interview for a Java Software Developer in a couple of weeks and the thing is that I think that I know C++ really good and I am somewhat good at C# (like, here I can probably answer on a lot of questions related to these languages), but I have almost zero experience with Java. I have a lot of projects written in both languages, I participiated in several open-source projects (mostly C++, though). Now, what should I do (in your opinion) to prepare myself for this Java interview. I guess migrating from C# to Java should be kind of fast, especially when you know a lot about programming in global, patterns, modern techniques and have a lot of practical experience behind you. But still two weeks is obviously not enough to get Java in-depth - so what should I focus on to have the best chances to pass the interview? Thank you.

    Cross-posting Dain Hansen's excellent recap of the Big Data/Fast Data announcement during OOW: For those of you who may have missed it, today’s second full day of Oracle OpenWorld 2012 started with a rumpus. Joe Tucci, from EMC outlined the human face of big data with real examples of how big data is transforming our world. And no not the usual tried-and-true weblog examples, but real stories about taxi cab drivers in Singapore using big data to better optimize their routes as well as folks just trying to get a better hair cut. Next we heard from Thomas Kurian who talked at length about the important platform characteristics of Oracle’s Cloud and more specifically Oracle’s expanded Cloud Services portfolio. Especially interesting to our integration customers are the messaging support for Oracle’s Cloud applications. What this means is that now Oracle’s Cloud applications have a lightweight integration fabric that on-premise applications can communicate to it via REST-APIs using Oracle SOA Suite. It’s an important element to our strategy at Oracle that supports this idea that whether your requirements are for private or public, Oracle has a solution in the Cloud for all of your applications and we give you more deployment choice than any vendor. If this wasn’t enough to get the juices flowing, later that morning we heard from Hasan Rizvi who outlined in his Fusion Middleware session the four most important enterprise imperatives: Social, Mobile, Cloud, and a brand new one: Fast Data. Today, Rizvi made an important step in the definition of this term to explain that he believes it’s a convergence of four essential technology elements: Event Processing for event filtering, business rules – with Oracle Event Processing Data Transformation and Loading - with Oracle Data Integrator Real-time replication and integration – with Oracle GoldenGate Analytics and data discovery – with Oracle Business Intelligence Each of these four elements can be considered (and architect-ed) together on a single integrated platform that can help customers integrate any type of data (structured, semi-structured) leveraging new styles of big data technologies (MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, NoSQL) to process more volume and variety of data at a faster velocity with greater results.  Fast data processing (and especially real-time) has always been our credo at Oracle with each one of these products in Fusion Middleware. For example, Oracle GoldenGate continues to be made even faster with the recent 11g R2 Release of Oracle GoldenGate which gives us some even greater optimization to Oracle Database with Integrated Capture, as well as some new heterogeneity capabilities.   • Fast set indexing data structure for superset retrieval

    I am given a set of sets: {{a,b}, {a,b,c}, {a,c}, {a,c,f}} I would like to have a data structure to index those sets such that the following "lookup" is executed fast: find all supersets of a given set. For example, given the set {a,c} the structure would return {{a,b,c}, {a,c,f}, {a,c}} but not {a,b}. Any suggestions? Could this be done with a smart trie-like data structure storing sets after a proper sorting? This data structures is going to be queried a lot. Thus, I'm searching for a structure that might be expensive in build but rather fast to query.

  • Have you tried to switch to different kind of language and find a job in a "new language" ?

    I'm a Java programmer(J2EE/JEE), but I'm thinking about switching to C#. Does any of you have been in my position and have switched from Java to C# or C# to Java or C++ to Java, etc. ?? I'm NOT asking about switching between the same kind of languages, for example Java to Groovy/Scala/JRuby, C++ to C, VB to C#, C# to IronRuby/F#/VB.NET. Or if you company was C++, but has moved to Java(you had no choice and I'm about to make a choice). Side question: How hard was it to get a job in a "new language"?

    I'm trying to draw a bunch of translucent circles on a Swing JComponent. This isn't exactly fast, and I was wondering if there is a way to speed it up. My custom JComponent has the following paintComponent method: public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { Rectangle view = g.getClipBounds(); VolatileImage image = createVolatileImage(view.width, view.height); Graphics2D buffer = image.createGraphics(); // translate to camera location buffer.translate(-cx, -cy); // renderables contains all currently visible objects for(Renderable r : renderables) { r.paint(buffer); } g.drawImage(image.getSnapshot(), view.x, view.y, this); } The paint method of my circles is as follows: public void paint(Graphics2D graphics) { graphics.setPaint(paint); graphics.fillOval(x, y, radius, radius); } The paint is just an rgba color with a < 255: Color(int r, int g, int b, int a) It works fast enough for opaque objects, but is there a simple way to speed this up for translucent ones?

  • Clock running too fast

    I'm currently (for some days now) having the problem, that my Ubuntu clock runs to fast. and by to fast I mean like: last time I adjusted it was at 4 PM, now (10:25 PM) it shows 10:57 PM ! Any ideas how to fix that? Could it have something to do with handbrake? (I'm currently ripping my DVD collection, so handbrake is always running).   • User Switching in XFCE 12.04 with LightDM and dumping unneeccesary Gnome libs

    I'm an elder non-techie Mac-to-Linux convert trying to play the linux tech game by ear, so please be gentle! :) I am running XFCE Ubuntu 12.04 totally on a 8-gig flash drive and it's fantastic. I am starting to run into potential space issues (down to 1.0 gig free from 1.9 gigs since being installed last summer), most likely because of growing Thunderbird mail files, and this prompted my question. I just installed lightDM on my system because I want the ability to switch users in XFCE if I follow instructions on another blog. They advised using LightDM instead of GDM because LightDM doesn't download Gnome libraries. That's great since I need the space, but my question is how can I tell whether I don't already have Gnome libraries installed from other updates and such? And can I minimize having any Gnome libraries? The method for me to switch users entails creating a "fast-user-switch" file in /usr/local/bin; is there any easier way? One last thing so I din't have topen another needless thread; while experimenting I somehow lost the share folder in one of my accounts. Is there any way to get a share folder back?   • Dash brings up 2nd instance of an app

    When I select an app from the Launch panel, it returns to the app if already loaded (i.e. shows the app's window with the 'old' situation in it, such as the document last worked on by LibreOffice Writer). However, if I click on the app after clicking the Dash icon in the Launch panel, it always seems to bring up a new instance of the app. Is there a way to make the Dash return to the app as per direct selection of the app from the Launch panel.

I want to get relative to picture pixel coords start and end points of lines. So on this picture to find all lines between dalles and thouse 2 black lines on top.     I periodically get message from git that look like this: Your branch is behind the tracked remote branch 'local-master/master' by 3 commits, and can be fast-forwarded. I would like to be able to write commands in a shell script that can do the following: How can I tell if my current branch can be fast-forwarded from the remote branch it is tracking? How can I tell how many commits "behind" my branch is? How can I fast-forward by just one commit, so that for example, my local branch would go from "behind by 3 commits" to "behind by 2 commits"? (For those who are interested, I am trying to put together a quality git/darcs mirror.)

  • Changing Win 8.1 Pro Store App Installation Folder

    I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet with Windows 8.1. The c:\ is very limited capacity at only 24GB. With the OS only on the c:\ I just have 8.6GB of free space. So I have added a 64gb SSD to the machine and want to install all my apps on it and not the C Drive. I know the apps get installed in c:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder so I have ROBOCOPY'd all the files to d:\Program Files\WindowsApps and created a symbolic link using mklink. It seems that new apps are install correctly now on d:\ however the existing apps fail to open. What is the Microsoft's solution to making this happen seamlessly?
