  • How to retrieve items from a django queryset?

    - by sharataka
    I'm trying to get the video element in a queryset but am having trouble retrieving it. user_channel = Everything.objects.filter(profile = request.user, playlist = 'Channel') print user_channel[0] #returns the first result without error print user_channel[0]['video'] #returns error Models.py: class Everything(models.Model): profile = models.ForeignKey(User) playlist = models.CharField('Playlist', max_length = 2000, null=True, blank=True) platform = models.CharField('Platform', max_length = 2000, null=True, blank=True) video = models.CharField('VideoID', max_length = 2000, null=True, blank=True) video_title = models.CharField('Title of Video', max_length = 2000, null=True, blank=True) def __unicode__(self): return u'%s %s %s %s %s' % (self.profile, self.playlist, self.platform, self.video, self.video_title)

  • [Django] How do I filter the choices in a ModelForm that has a CharField with the choices attribute

    - by nubela
I understand I am able to filter queryset of Foreignkey or Many2ManyFields, however, how do I do that for a simple CharField that is a Select Widget (Select Tag). For example: PRODUCT_STATUS = ( ("unapproved", "Unapproved"), ("approved", "Listed"), #("Backorder","Backorder"), #("oos","Out of Stock"), #("preorder","Preorder"), ("userdisabled", "User Disabled"), ("disapproved", "Disapproved by admin"), ) and the Field: o_status = models.CharField(max_length=100, choices=PRODUCT_STATUS, verbose_name="Product Status", default="approved") Suppose I wish to limit it to just "approved" and "userdisabled" instead showing the full array (which is what I want to show in the admin), how do I do it? Thanks!

  • Django call function when an object gets added

    - by dotty
Hay, i have a simple model class Manufacturer(models.Model): name = models.CharField() car_count = models.IntegerField() class Car(models.Model): maker = ForeignKey(Manufacturer) I want to update the car_count field when a car is added to a manufacturer, I'm aware i could just count the Manufacturer.car_set() to get the value, but i want the value to be stored within that car_count field. How would i do this? EDIT Would something like this work? def save(self): if self.id: car_count = self.car_set.count() self.save()

  • How do you extend the Site model in django?

    - by John Giotta
What is the best approach to extending the Site model in django? Creating a new model and ForeignKey the Site or there another approach that allows me to subclass the Site model? I prefer subclassing, because relationally I'm more comfortable, but I'm concerned for the impact it will have with the built-in Admin.

  • Normalized class design and code first

    - by dc7a9163d9
There are the following two classes. public class Employee { int EmployeeId { get; set; } public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } public string Street { get; set; } public string Street2 { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } public string State { get; set; } public string Zip { get; set; } } public class Company { int CompanyId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Street { get; set; } public string Street2 { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } public string State { get; set; } public string Zip { get; set; } } In a DDD seminar, the speaker said the better design should be, class PersonName { public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } } class Address { public string Street { get; set; } public string Street2 { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } public string State { get; set; } public string Zip { get; set; } } public class Employee { int EmployeeId { get; set; } public PersonName Name { get; set; } [ForeignKey("EmployerAddress")] public int EmployerAddressId { get; set; } public virtual Address EmployerAddress { get; set; } } public class Company { int CompanyId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } [ForeignKey("CompanyAddress")] public int CompanyAddressId { get; set; } public virtual Address CompanyAddress { get; set; } } Is it the optimized design? How the code first generate the PersonName table and link it to Employee?

  • Django manager for _set in model

    - by Daniel Johansson
    Hello, I'm in the progress of learning Django at the moment but I can't figure out how to solve this problem on my own. I'm reading the book Developers Library - Python Web Development With Django and in one chapter you build a simple CMS system with two models (Story and Category), some generic and custom views together with templates for the views. The book only contains code for listing stories, story details and search. I wanted to expand on that and build a page with nested lists for categories and stories. - Category1 -- Story1 -- Story2 - Category2 - Story3 etc. I managed to figure out how to add my own generic object_list view for the category listing. My problem is that the Story model have STATUS_CHOICES if the Story is public or not and a custom manager that'll only fetch the public Stories per default. I can't figure out how to tell my generic Category list view to also use a custom manager and only fetch the public Stories. Everything works except that small problem. I'm able to create a list for all categories with a sub list for all stories in that category on a single page, the only problem is that the list contains non public Stories. I don't know if I'm on the right track here. My urls.py contains a generic view that fetches all Category objects and in my template I'm using the *category.story_set.all* to get all Story objects for that category, wich I then loop over. I think it would be possible to add a if statement in the template and use the VIEWABLE_STATUS from my model file to check if it should be listed or not. The problem with that solution is that it's not very DRY compatible. Is it possible to add some kind of manager for the Category model too that only will fetch in public Story objects when using the story_set on a category? Or is this the wrong way to attack my problem? Related code urls.py (only category list view): urlpatterns += patterns('django.views.generic.list_detail', url(r'^categories/$', 'object_list', {'queryset': Category.objects.all(), 'template_object_name': 'category' }, name='cms-categories'), models.py: from markdown import markdown import datetime from django.db import models from django.db.models import permalink from django.contrib.auth.models import User VIEWABLE_STATUS = [3, 4] class ViewableManager(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): default_queryset = super(ViewableManager, self).get_query_set() return default_queryset.filter(status__in=VIEWABLE_STATUS) class Category(models.Model): """A content category""" label = models.CharField(blank=True, max_length=50) slug = models.SlugField() class Meta: verbose_name_plural = "categories" def __unicode__(self): return self.label @permalink def get_absolute_url(self): return ('cms-category', (), {'slug': self.slug}) class Story(models.Model): """A hunk of content for our site, generally corresponding to a page""" STATUS_CHOICES = ( (1, "Needs Edit"), (2, "Needs Approval"), (3, "Published"), (4, "Archived"), ) title = models.CharField(max_length=100) slug = models.SlugField() category = models.ForeignKey(Category) markdown_content = models.TextField() html_content = models.TextField(editable=False) owner = models.ForeignKey(User) status = models.IntegerField(choices=STATUS_CHOICES, default=1) created = models.DateTimeField(default=datetime.datetime.now) modified = models.DateTimeField(default=datetime.datetime.now) class Meta: ordering = ['modified'] verbose_name_plural = "stories" def __unicode__(self): return self.title @permalink def get_absolute_url(self): return ("cms-story", (), {'slug': self.slug}) def save(self): self.html_content = markdown(self.markdown_content) self.modified = datetime.datetime.now() super(Story, self).save() admin_objects = models.Manager() objects = ViewableManager() category_list.html (related template): {% extends "cms/base.html" %} {% block content %} <h1>Categories</h1> {% if category_list %} <ul id="category-list"> {% for category in category_list %} <li><a href="{{ category.get_absolute_url }}">{{ category.label }}</a></li> {% if category.story_set %} <ul> {% for story in category.story_set.all %} <li><a href="{{ story.get_absolute_url }}">{{ story.title }}</a></li> {% endfor %} </ul> {% endif %} {% endfor %} </ul> {% else %} <p> Sorry, no categories at the moment. </p> {% endif %} {% endblock %}

  • Simple Observation in Django: How Can I Correctly Modify The `attrs` sent to __new__ of a Django Mod

    - by DGGenuine
Hello, I'm a strong proponent of the observer pattern, and this is what I'd like to be able to do in my Django models.py: class AModel(Model): __metaclass__ = SomethingMagical @post_save(AnotherModel) @classmethod def observe_another_model_saved(klass, sender, instance, created, **kwargs): pass @pre_init('YetAnotherModel') @classmethod def observe_yet_another_model_initializing(klass, sender, *args, **kwargs): pass @post_delete('DifferentApp.SomeModel') @classmethod def observe_some_model_deleted(klass, sender, **kwargs): pass This would connect a signal with sender = the decorator's argument and receiver = the decorated method. Right now my signal connection code all exists in __init__.py which is okay, but a little unmaintainable. I want this code all in one place, the models.py file. Thanks to helpful feedback from the community I'm very close (I think.) (I'm using a metaclass solution instead of the class decorator solution in the previous question/answer because you can't set attributes on classmethods, which I need.) I am having a strange error I don't understand. At the end of my post are the contents of a models.py that you can pop into a fresh project/application to see the error. Set your database to sqlite and add the application to installed apps. This is the error: Validating models... Unhandled exception in thread started by Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages//lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/commands/runserver.py", line 48, in inner_run File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/base.py", line 253, in validate raise CommandError("One or more models did not validate:\n%s" % error_text) django.core.management.base.CommandError: One or more models did not validate: local.myothermodel: 'my_model' has a relation with model MyModel, which has either not been installed or is abstract. I've indicated a few different things you can comment in/out to fix the error. First, if you don't modify the attrs sent to the metaclass's __new__, then the error does not arise. (Note even if you copy the dictionary element by element into a new dictionary, it still fails; only using the exact attrs dictionary works.) Second, if you reference the first model by class rather than by string, the error also doesn't arise regardless of what you do in __new__. I appreciate your help. I'll be githubbing the solution if and when it works. Maybe other people would enjoy a simplified way to use Django signals to observe application happenings. #models.py from django.db import models from django.db.models.base import ModelBase from django.db.models import signals import pdb class UnconnectedMethodWrapper(object): sender = None method = None signal = None def __init__(self, signal, sender, method): self.signal = signal self.sender = sender self.method = method def post_save(sender): return _make_decorator(signals.post_save, sender) def _make_decorator(signal, sender): def decorator(view): return UnconnectedMethodWrapper(signal, sender, view) return decorator class ConnectableModel(ModelBase): """ A meta class for any class that will have static or class methods that need to be connected to signals. • tastypie posting and full example

    - by Justin M
Is there a full tastypie django example site and setup available for download? I have been wrestling with wrapping my head around it all day. I have the following code. Basically, I have a POST form that is handled with ajax. When I click "submit" on my form and the ajax request runs, the call returns "POST http://192.168.1.110:8000/api/private/client_basic_info/ 404 (NOT FOUND)" I have the URL configured alright, I think. I can access http://192.168.1.110:8000/api/private/client_basic_info/?format=json just fine. Am I missing some settings or making some fundamental errors in my methods? My intent is that each user can fill out/modify one and only one "client basic information" form/model. a page: {% extends "layout-column-100.html" %} {% load uni_form_tags sekizai_tags %} {% block title %}Basic Information{% endblock %} {% block main_content %} {% addtoblock "js" %} <script language="JavaScript"> $(document).ready( function() { $('#client_basic_info_form').submit(function (e) { form = $(this) form.find('span.error-message, span.success-message').remove() form.find('.invalid').removeClass('invalid') form.find('input[type="submit"]').attr('disabled', 'disabled') e.preventDefault(); var values = {} $.each($(this).serializeArray(), function(i, field) { values[field.name] = field.value; }) $.ajax({ type: 'POST', contentType: 'application/json', data: JSON.stringify(values), dataType: 'json', processData: false, url: '/api/private/client_basic_info/', success: function(data, status, jqXHR) { form.find('input[type="submit"]') .after('<span class="success-message">Saved successfully!</span>') .removeAttr('disabled') }, error: function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) { console.log(jqXHR) console.log(textStatus) console.log(errorThrown) var errors = JSON.parse(jqXHR.responseText) for (field in errors) { var field_error = errors[field][0] $('#id_' + field).addClass('invalid') .after('<span class="error-message">'+ field_error +'</span>') } form.find('input[type="submit"]').removeAttr('disabled') } }) // end $.ajax() }) // end $('#client_basic_info_form').submit() }) // end $(document).ready() </script> {% endaddtoblock %} {% uni_form form form.helper %} {% endblock %} resources from residence.models import ClientBasicInfo from residence.forms.profiler import ClientBasicInfoForm from tastypie import fields from tastypie.resources import ModelResource from tastypie.authentication import BasicAuthentication from tastypie.authorization import DjangoAuthorization, Authorization from tastypie.validation import FormValidation from tastypie.resources import ModelResource, ALL, ALL_WITH_RELATIONS from django.core.urlresolvers import reverse from django.contrib.auth.models import User class UserResource(ModelResource): class Meta: queryset = User.objects.all() resource_name = 'user' fields = ['username'] filtering = { 'username': ALL, } include_resource_uri = False authentication = BasicAuthentication() authorization = DjangoAuthorization() def dehydrate(self, bundle): forms_incomplete = [] if ClientBasicInfo.objects.filter(user=bundle.request.user).count() < 1: forms_incomplete.append({'name': 'Basic Information', 'url': reverse('client_basic_info')}) bundle.data['forms_incomplete'] = forms_incomplete return bundle class ClientBasicInfoResource(ModelResource): user = fields.ForeignKey(UserResource, 'user') class Meta: authentication = BasicAuthentication() authorization = DjangoAuthorization() include_resource_uri = False queryset = ClientBasicInfo.objects.all() resource_name = 'client_basic_info' validation = FormValidation(form_class=ClientBasicInfoForm) list_allowed_methods = ['get', 'post', ] detail_allowed_methods = ['get', 'post', 'put', 'delete'] Edit: My resources file is now: from residence.models import ClientBasicInfo from residence.forms.profiler import ClientBasicInfoForm from tastypie import fields from tastypie.resources import ModelResource from tastypie.authentication import BasicAuthentication from tastypie.authorization import DjangoAuthorization, Authorization from tastypie.validation import FormValidation from tastypie.resources import ModelResource, ALL, ALL_WITH_RELATIONS from django.core.urlresolvers import reverse from django.contrib.auth.models import User class UserResource(ModelResource): class Meta: queryset = User.objects.all() resource_name = 'user' fields = ['username'] filtering = { 'username': ALL, } include_resource_uri = False authentication = BasicAuthentication() authorization = DjangoAuthorization() #def apply_authorization_limits(self, request, object_list): # return object_list.filter(username=request.user) def dehydrate(self, bundle): forms_incomplete = [] if ClientBasicInfo.objects.filter(user=bundle.request.user).count() < 1: forms_incomplete.append({'name': 'Basic Information', 'url': reverse('client_basic_info')}) bundle.data['forms_incomplete'] = forms_incomplete return bundle class ClientBasicInfoResource(ModelResource): # user = fields.ForeignKey(UserResource, 'user') class Meta: authentication = BasicAuthentication() authorization = DjangoAuthorization() include_resource_uri = False queryset = ClientBasicInfo.objects.all() resource_name = 'client_basic_info' validation = FormValidation(form_class=ClientBasicInfoForm) #list_allowed_methods = ['get', 'post', ] #detail_allowed_methods = ['get', 'post', 'put', 'delete'] def apply_authorization_limits(self, request, object_list): return object_list.filter(user=request.user) I made the user field of the ClientBasicInfo nullable and the POST seems to work. I want to try updating the entry now. Would that just be appending the pk to the ajax url? For example /api/private/client_basic_info/21/? When I submit that form I get a 501 NOT IMPLEMENTED message. What exactly haven't I implemented? I am subclassing ModelResource, which should have all the ORM-related functions implemented according to the docs.

  • How do I code this relationship in SQLAlchemy?

    - by Martin Del Vecchio
I am new to SQLAlchemy (and SQL, for that matter). I can't figure out how to code the idea I have in my head. I am creating a database of performance-test results. A test run consists of a test type and a number (this is class TestRun below) A test suite consists the version string of the software being tested, and one or more TestRun objects (this is class TestSuite below). A test version consists of all test suites with the given version name. Here is my code, as simple as I can make it: from sqlalchemy import * from sqlalchemy.ext.declarative import declarative_base from sqlalchemy.orm import relationship, backref, sessionmaker Base = declarative_base() class TestVersion (Base): __tablename__ = 'versions' id = Column (Integer, primary_key=True) version_name = Column (String) def __init__ (self, version_name): self.version_name = version_name class TestRun (Base): __tablename__ = 'runs' id = Column (Integer, primary_key=True) suite_directory = Column (String, ForeignKey ('suites.directory')) suite = relationship ('TestSuite', backref=backref ('runs', order_by=id)) test_type = Column (String) rate = Column (Integer) def __init__ (self, test_type, rate): self.test_type = test_type self.rate = rate class TestSuite (Base): __tablename__ = 'suites' directory = Column (String, primary_key=True) version_id = Column (Integer, ForeignKey ('versions.id')) version_ref = relationship ('TestVersion', backref=backref ('suites', order_by=directory)) version_name = Column (String) def __init__ (self, directory, version_name): self.directory = directory self.version_name = version_name # Create a v1.0 suite suite1 = TestSuite ('dir1', 'v1.0') suite1.runs.append (TestRun ('test1', 100)) suite1.runs.append (TestRun ('test2', 200)) # Create a another v1.0 suite suite2 = TestSuite ('dir2', 'v1.0') suite2.runs.append (TestRun ('test1', 101)) suite2.runs.append (TestRun ('test2', 201)) # Create another suite suite3 = TestSuite ('dir3', 'v2.0') suite3.runs.append (TestRun ('test1', 102)) suite3.runs.append (TestRun ('test2', 202)) # Create the in-memory database engine = create_engine ('sqlite://') Session = sessionmaker (bind=engine) session = Session() Base.metadata.create_all (engine) # Add the suites in version1 = TestVersion (suite1.version_name) version1.suites.append (suite1) session.add (suite1) version2 = TestVersion (suite2.version_name) version2.suites.append (suite2) session.add (suite2) version3 = TestVersion (suite3.version_name) version3.suites.append (suite3) session.add (suite3) session.commit() # Query the suites for suite in session.query (TestSuite).order_by (TestSuite.directory): print "\nSuite directory %s, version %s has %d test runs:" % (suite.directory, suite.version_name, len (suite.runs)) for run in suite.runs: print " Test '%s', result %d" % (run.test_type, run.rate) # Query the versions for version in session.query (TestVersion).order_by (TestVersion.version_name): print "\nVersion %s has %d test suites:" % (version.version_name, len (version.suites)) for suite in version.suites: print " Suite directory %s, version %s has %d test runs:" % (suite.directory, suite.version_name, len (suite.runs)) for run in suite.runs: print " Test '%s', result %d" % (run.test_type, run.rate) The output of this program: Suite directory dir1, version v1.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 100 Test 'test2', result 200 Suite directory dir2, version v1.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 101 Test 'test2', result 201 Suite directory dir3, version v2.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 102 Test 'test2', result 202 Version v1.0 has 1 test suites: Suite directory dir1, version v1.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 100 Test 'test2', result 200 Version v1.0 has 1 test suites: Suite directory dir2, version v1.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 101 Test 'test2', result 201 Version v2.0 has 1 test suites: Suite directory dir3, version v2.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 102 Test 'test2', result 202 This is not correct, since there are two TestVersion objects with the name 'v1.0'. I hacked my way around this by adding a private list of TestVersion objects, and a function to find a matching one: versions = [] def find_or_create_version (version_name): # Find existing for version in versions: if version.version_name == version_name: return (version) # Create new version = TestVersion (version_name) versions.append (version) return (version) Then I modified my code that adds the records to use it: # Add the suites in version1 = find_or_create_version (suite1.version_name) version1.suites.append (suite1) session.add (suite1) version2 = find_or_create_version (suite2.version_name) version2.suites.append (suite2) session.add (suite2) version3 = find_or_create_version (suite3.version_name) version3.suites.append (suite3) session.add (suite3) Now the output is what I want: Suite directory dir1, version v1.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 100 Test 'test2', result 200 Suite directory dir2, version v1.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 101 Test 'test2', result 201 Suite directory dir3, version v2.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 102 Test 'test2', result 202 Version v1.0 has 2 test suites: Suite directory dir1, version v1.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 100 Test 'test2', result 200 Suite directory dir2, version v1.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 101 Test 'test2', result 201 Version v2.0 has 1 test suites: Suite directory dir3, version v2.0 has 2 test runs: Test 'test1', result 102 Test 'test2', result 202 This feels wrong to me; it doesn't feel right that I am manually keeping track of the unique version names, and manually adding the suites to the appropriate TestVersion objects. Is this code even close to being correct? And what happens when I'm not building the entire database from scratch, as in this example. If the database already exists, do I have to query the database's TestVersion table to discover the unique version names? Thanks in advance. I know this is a lot of code to wade through, and I appreciate the help.

  • Many to many self join through junction table

    - by Peter
I have an EF model that can self-reference through an intermediary class to define a parent/child relationship. I know how to do a pure many-to-many relationship using the Map command, but for some reason going through this intermediary class is causing problems with my mappings. The intermediary class provides additional properties for the relationship. See the classes, modelBinder logic and error below: public class Equipment { [Key] public int EquipmentId { get; set; } public virtual List<ChildRecord> Parents { get; set; } public virtual List<ChildRecord> Children { get; set; } } public class ChildRecord { [Key] public int ChildId { get; set; } [Required] public int Quantity { get; set; } [Required] public Equipment Parent { get; set; } [Required] public Equipment Child { get; set; } } I've tried building the mappings in both directions, though I only keep one set in at a time: modelBuilder.Entity<ChildRecord>() .HasRequired(x => x.Parent) .WithMany(x => x.Children ) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<ChildRecord>() .HasRequired(x => x.Child) .WithMany(x => x.Parents) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); OR modelBuilder.Entity<Equipment>() .HasMany(x => x.Parents) .WithRequired(x => x.Child) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<Equipment>() .HasMany(x => x.Children) .WithRequired(x => x.Parent) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); Regardless of which set I use, I get the error: The foreign key component 'Child' is not a declared property on type 'ChildRecord'. Verify that it has not been explicitly excluded from the model and that it is a valid primitive property. when I try do deploy my ef model to the database. If I build it without the modelBinder logic in place then I get two ID columns for Child and two ID columns for Parent in my ChildRecord table. This makes sense since it tries to auto create the navigation properties from Equipment and doesn't know that there are already properties in ChildRecord to fulfill this need. I tried using Data Annotations on the class, and no modelBuilder code, this failed with the same error as above: [Required] [ForeignKey("EquipmentId")] public Equipment Parent { get; set; } [Required] [ForeignKey("EquipmentId")] public Equipment Child { get; set; } AND [InverseProperty("Child")] public virtual List<ChildRecord> Parents { get; set; } [InverseProperty("Parent")] public virtual List<ChildRecord> Children { get; set; } I've looked at various other answers around the internet/SO, and the common difference seems to be that I am self joining where as all the answers I can find are for two different types. • CakePHP: 2-level JOIN with one Query

    - by Daniel Magliola
I have the following models in CakePHP: A Deposit belongs to an Account An Account belongs to a Customer I want to have a list of Deposits, and I need to show the name of the customer (so I have to join through the Customer). I also need to paginate this list. If I set Deposit->recursive = 2, I can get the Customer, however, CakePHP runs one query joining Deposit and Account, and then runs one query per each Deposit, to get the Customer. How can I make it get both models with only one query? I tried this, but it didn't work: $this->paginate = array('joins' => array( array( 'table' => 'customers', 'alias' => 'AccountCustomer', 'type' => 'inner', 'foreignKey' => false, 'conditions' => array('Account.customer_id = AccountCustomer.id') ) )); Any ideas? Thanks! Daniel

  • Django QuerySet filter method returns multiple entries for one record

Trying to retrieve blogs (see model description below) that contain entries satisfying some criteria: Blog.objects.filter(entries__title__contains='entry') The results is: [<Blog: blog1>, <Blog: blog1>] The same blog object is retrieved twice because of JOIN performed to filter objects on related model. What is the right syntax for filtering only unique objects? Data model: class Blog(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) def __unicode__(self): return self.name class Entry(models.Model): title = models.CharField(max_length=100) blog = models.ForeignKey(Blog, related_name='entries') def __unicode__(self): return self.title Sample data: b1 = Blog.objects.create(name='blog1') e1 = Entry.objects.create(title='entry 1', blog=b1) e1 = Entry.objects.create(title='entry 2', blog=b1)

  • Assigning a group while adding user in django-admin

    - by Lokharkey
In my application, I have models that have the Users model as a Foreign key, eg: class Doctor(models.Model): username=models.ForeignKey(User, unique=True) ... In the admin site, when adding a new Doctor, I have the option of adding a new User next to the username field. This is exactly what I want, but in the dialog that opens, it asks for a username and password for the new user; I would also like to be able to assign a group to this new user. What would be the best way of doing this ? Thanks, lokharkey

  • getting database connectivity issue from only one part of my ASP.net project?

    - by Greg
Hi, Something weird has started happening to my project with Dynamic Data. Suddenly I am now getting connection errors when going to the DD navigation pages, but things work fine on the default DD main page, and also other MVC pages I've added in myself work fine to the database. Any ideas? So in summary if I go to the following web pages: custom URL for my custom controller - this works fine, including getting database data main DD page from root URL - this works fine click on a link to a table maintenance page from the main DD page - GET DATABASE CONNECTIVITY ERROR Some items: * I'm using SQL Server Express 2008 * Doesn't seem to be any debug/error info in VS2010 at all I can see * Web config entry: <add name="Model1Container" connectionString="metadata=res://*/Model1.csdl|res://*/Model1.ssdl|res://*/Model1.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string=&quot;Data Source=GREG\SQLEXPRESS_2008;Initial Catalog=greg_development;Integrated Security=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True&quot;" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient"/> Error: Server Error in '/' Application. • Django: Summing values of records grouped by foreign key

    - by Dan0
Hi there In django, given the following models (slightly simplified), I'm struggling to work out how I would get a view including sums of groups class Client(models.Model): api_key = models.CharField(unique=True, max_length=250, primary_key=True) name = models.CharField(unique=True, max_length=250) class Purchase(models.Model): purchase_date = models.DateTimeField() client = models.ForeignKey(SavedClient, to_field='api_key') amount_to_invoice = models.FloatField(null=True) For a given month, I'd like to see e.g. April 2010 For Each Client that purchased this month: * CLient: Name * Total amount of Purchases for this month * Total cost of purchases for this month For each Purchase made by client: * Date * Amount * Etc I've been looking into django annotation, but can't get my head around how to sum values of a field for a particular group over a particular month and send the information to a template as a variable/tag. Any info would be appreciated

  • Django Managers

    - by owca
I have the following models code : from django.db import models from categories.models import Category class MusicManager(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return super(MusicManager, self).get_query_set().filter(category='Music') def count_music(self): return self.all().count() class SportManager(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return super(MusicManager, self).get_query_set().filter(category='Sport') class Event(models.Model): title = models.CharField(max_length=120) category = models.ForeignKey(Category) objects = models.Manager() music = MusicManager() sport = SportManager() Now by registering MusicManager() and SportManager() I am able to call Event.music.all() and Event.sport.all() queries. But how can I create Event.music.count() ? Should I call self.all() in count_music() function of MusicManager to query only on elements with 'Music' category or do I still need to filter through them in search for category first ?

  • Unicode issue in Django

    - by Kave
    I seem to have a unicode problem with the deal_instance_name in the Deal model. It says: coercing to Unicode: need string or buffer, __proxy__ found The exception happens on this line: return smart_unicode(self.deal_type.deal_name) + _(u' - Set No.') + str(self.set) The line works if I remove smart_unicode(self.deal_type.deal_name) but why? Back then in Django 1.1 someone had the same problem on Stackoverflow I have tried both the unicode() as well as the new smart_unicode() without any joy. What could I be missing please? class Deal(models.Model): def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): super(Deal, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs) self.deal_instance_name = self.__unicode__() deal_type = models.ForeignKey(DealType) deal_instance_name = models.CharField(_(u'Deal Name'), max_length=100) set = models.IntegerField(_(u'Set Number')) def __unicode__(self): return smart_unicode(self.deal_type.deal_name) + _(u' - Set No.') + str(self.set) class Meta: verbose_name = _(u'Deal') verbose_name_plural = _(u'Deals') Dealtype: class DealType(models.Model): deal_name = models.CharField(_(u'Deal Name'), max_length=40) deal_description = models.TextField(_(u'Deal Description'), blank=True) def __unicode__(self): return smart_unicode(self.deal_name) class Meta: verbose_name = _(u'Deal Type') verbose_name_plural = _(u'Deal Types')

  • Django South Foreign Keys referring to pks with Custom Fields

    - by Rory Hart
I'm working with a legacy database which uses the MySQL big int so I setup a simple custom model field to handle this: class BigAutoField(models.AutoField): def get_internal_type(self): return "BigAutoField" def db_type(self): return 'bigint AUTO_INCREMENT' # Note this won't work with Oracle. This works fine with django south for the id/pk fields (mysql desc "| id | bigint(20) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment |") but the ForeignKey fields in other models the referring fields are created as int(11) rather than bigint(20). I assume I have to add an introspection rule to the BigAutoField but there doesn't seem to be a mention of this sort of rule in the documentation (http://south.aeracode.org/docs/customfields.html). Update: Currently using Django 1.1.1 and South 0.6.2

  • Upload Image with Django Model Form

    - by jmitchel3
I'm having difficulty uploading the following model with model form. I can upload fine in the admin but that's not all that useful for a project that limits admin access. #Models.py class Profile(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=128) user = models.ForeignKey(User) profile_pic = models.ImageField(upload_to='img/profile/%Y/%m/') #views.py def create_profile(request): try: profile = Profile.objects.get(user=request.user) except: pass form = CreateProfileForm(request.POST or None, instance=profile) if form.is_valid(): new = form.save(commit=False) new.user = request.user new.save() return render_to_response('profile.html', locals(), context_instance=RequestContext(request)) #Profile.html <form enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post">{% csrf_token %} <tr><td>{{ form.as_p }}</td></tr> <tr><td><button type="submit" class="btn">Submit</button></td></tr> </form> Note: All the other data in the form saves perfectly well, the photo does not upload at all. Thank you for your help!

  • Django aggregation query on related one-to-many objects

    - by parxier
Here is my simplified model: class Item(models.Model): pass class TrackingPoint(models.Model): item = models.ForeignKey(Item) created = models.DateField() data = models.IntegerField() In many parts of my application I need to retrieve a set of Item's and annotate each item with data field from latest TrackingPoint from each item ordered by created field. For example, instance i1 of class Item has 3 TrackingPoint's: tp1 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,15), data=23) tp2 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,14), data=21) tp3 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,12), data=120) I need a query to retrieve i1 instance annotated with tp1.data field value as tp1 is the latest tracking point ordered by created field. That query should also return Item's that don't have any TrackingPoint's at all. If possible I prefer not to use QuerySet's extra method to do this. That's what I tried so far... and failed :( Item.objects.annotate(max_created=Max('trackingpoint__created'), data=Avg('trackingpoint__data')).filter(trackingpoint__created=F('max_created')) Any ideas?

  • Display/Edit fields across tables in a Django Form

    - by jamida
I have 2 tables/models, which for all practical purposes are the same as the standard Author/Book example, but with the additional restriction that in my application each Author can only write 0 or 1 books. (eg, the ForeignKey field in the Book model is or can be a OneToOneField, and there may be authors who have no corresponding book in the Book table.) I would like to be able to display a form showing multiple books and also show some fields from the corresponding Author table (eg author_name, author_address). I followed the example of the inlineformset and but that doesn't even display the author name in the generated form.

  • Django queries: Count number of objects with FK to model instance

    - by Chris Lawlor
This should be easy but for some reason I'm having trouble finding it. I have the following: App(models.Model): ... Release(models.Model): date = models.DateTimeField() App = models.ForeignKey(App) ... How can I query for all App objects that have at least one Release? I started typing: App.objects.all().annotate(release_count=Count('??????')).filter(release_count__gt=0) Which won't work because Count doesn't span relationships, at least as far as I can tell. BONUS: Ultimately, I'd also like to be able to sort Apps by latest release date. I'm thinking of caching the latest release date in the app to make this a little easier (and cheaper), and updating it in the Release model's save method, unless of course there is a better way. Edit: I'm using Django 1.1 - not averse to migrating to dev in anticipation of 1.2 if there is a compelling reason though.
