    Hi! I have a mdadm RAID-6 in my home server of 5x1Tb WD Green HDDs. Read speed is more than enough - 268 Mb/s in dd. But write speed is just 37.1 Mb/s. (Both tested via dd on 48Gb file, RAM size is 1Gb, block size used in testing is 8kb) Could you please suggest why write speed is so low and is there any ways to improve it?     Possible Duplicate: Does Google Analytics data affect SEO? We have two subdomains, one for our blog and one for our ecommerce store. The blog serves to bring traffic and the store is how we monetize the site. We have them designed to appear as one large site, but I know google sees them as two sites. Here is how the subdomains look: www.example.com (store) blog.example.com (blog) I believe I can configure analytics to use subdomain tracking as explained here: http://support.google.com/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55524 But my question is whether this will cause google to see our 2 subdomains as one larger domain for SEO purposes. In other words, is there any relationship to how you configure google analytics and how google indexes and ranks your website(s) and pages?     Can anyone tell me why Google indexes a site http://0.3c.7aae.static.theplanet.com instead of the actual domain name (my domain was registered with webmaster tools). The aforementioned link was linking to my site, but has now become a broken link. Initially I tried 301 directs, but nothing worked. The hosting company cannot explain why.     I've got a site that's showing a 9% CTR for a phrase in Google Webmaster Tools, but the average position for my site is 14th (this includes 7 local results for this phrase). I was a little confused as to what the CTR actually meant, is it : for each person who searches for that phrase 9% of them click my site. or for each person who actually sees my site in the search results 9% of them click through (bearing in mind 14th is high on page 2 when the local listings are used).

    Bit of a general question here. We are in the process of converting a number of our clients from older web sites to new ones. The problem we are getting, and sorry for being so general here, is we are getting a sharp decline in traffic as reported on Google Analytics. It's not a gradual decline, it seems to hit almost as soon as the new site goes live. I've just got a few questions to see if there is something we are doing wrong: a) We are using the same analytics accounts going from old to new site. Is this a bad idea? b) The actual analytics code is integrated into the pages using a server-side include. IS this a bad idea? c) We structure our sites differently to our old site. IE. The old sites would pretty must have all the web pages in the root directory, and hyperlinks would be linked to the page files: EG. <a href="somepage.aspx">Link</a> Our new sites now have a directory structure that pretty much reflects the navigation structure, and hyper links link to the pages directory instead of the actual page: EG. <a href="/new-items/shoes/">New shoes</a> Is this a bad idea. I'm really searching for a needle in a haystack here. Would appriciate any help or advice as to why we are getting such a sharp and sudden drop in traffic. Again, so this is such a general question.   • Download Speed is 0.12 Mbps when tested with servers in U.S, but it is 0.76 Mbps when tested with local servers, normal? [closed]

    Feeling that my ISP is cheating my money ( My subscription package is 1 Mbps), I did a speed test on my internet connection using www.speedtest.net. I tried to test the connection speed on two servers, one local ( Malaysia), another in U.S. I found that while the upload speed remain constant, but the download speed is different; 0.76 Mbps for servers in Malaysia, and 0.12 Mbps for servers in U.S. I called the ISP, and they blamed it on the intercontinental signal lost. But how can it be that the speed differs by that much? If it really differs by that much than we should always take a grain of salt of what is advertised as the broadband speed because the advertised speed is not the speed we are getting. No?

  • API access to a manually-created Google Map

    I have a number of public custom Google Maps created via http://maps.google.com/ - obviously associated with my google account. Can I access these maps via the Google Maps javascript api? The api doesn't appear to work with the manually created maps located on maps.google.com from what I can tell? And if not, is there another way to store overlay data (markers, etc) that the javascript api can grab and load into the map on the client's browser? Am thinking a service like dabbleDB, except that I don't think they offer write access via javascript (this would be necessary for the user adding markers to the map, for example) Obviously I could create a db layer on my server, but am looking for a 'cloud' solution that removes the strain from my databases!!

    Sometimes when I remove markers they stay around in a "ghost" fashion -- they are clickable but there's no more icon. This is not every time and usually only happens when I remove more than one at a time. Here's my code for removing markers: for(var i in markers) { google.maps.event.clearListeners(markers[i], "click"); markers[i].setMap(null); markers[i] = null; delete markers[i]; } The only way to guarantee that they get removed 100% of the time is to move the map to another position. Then when I move it back they are gone 100% of the time. Thanks for your help.

    I have no idea why this is happening. An example http://www.londonofficespace.com/ofdj17062004934429t.htm Title tag is: Unfurnished Office Space Wimbledon – Serviced Office on Lombard Road SW19 But is indexed as: Lombard Road – SW19 - London Office Space If you look in the source code and search for this portion ‘Lombard Road – SW19’ You then find that it's next to an office image alt=’Lombard Road – SW19’. The only thing I could think of is that the spider somehow ‘skips’ our title tag and grabs this bit, and then inserts the name of the site (but WHY?) Is there anything I can do with this? or is this a Google behaviour?

    I have 700+ title tag duplicates showing in WMT. Every first link in that picture is as duplicate link of second one. I don't know from where the first link got indexed by Google when that link doesn't exist in the site. It's showing the title of every page as link. Original link: http://www.sitename.com/job/407/Swedish-plus-Any-other-Nordic-Language-Customer-Service-Representative-Dublin-Ireland. Duplicate link: http://www.sitename.com/job/407/Swedish-plus-Any-other-Nordic-Language-Customer-Service-Representative-Dublin-Ireland-Ireland. How can this happen? I have checked entire site I didn't find where the second version is linked. I have no images linked to with duplicated version of URL.

    I find the site layout and theming capabilities in Google Sites (found in the Manage Site screen) very limited; for instance, I do not seem to be able to place the horizontal navigation buttons directly to the right of the logo and to customize their style, as well as to use the standard trick of making a horizontally stretchable background image of a box with rounded corners by splitting it into three parts and replicating the middle one, etc. Am I missing something?
