• How to setup NX server and client?

  I installed NX server on my desktop and able to run it successfully following this tutorial: http://michigantelephone.wordpress.com/2007/10/15/how-to-install-nx-server-and-client-under-ubuntukubuntu-linux/ When i run the command sudo /usr/NX/bin/nxserver –status I am seeing the following output : NX 900 Connecting to server .. NX 110 NX Server is running. NX 999 Bye. It means i have setup NX server correctly.. But on other machine when i open NX client it is asking for hostname..what name should i give there? Every tutorial is explaining about how to install and start NX server but not about how to connect to the server from client.. Could you guys please help me? Thanks in Advance Deter

• Jupiter seems to break multimonitor setup

  If Jupiter is in the startup my multimonitor setup will fail. Instead of two separate desktops the monitors will be mirrored, one over the other with the smaller notebook-desktop in the larger screen: After each new log-in I have to reset the Display settings in the "System Settings..." dialogue to two not mirrored screens, the changes don't seem to be saved. Given the the entry from xsession-errors /usr/lib/jupiter/scripts/resolutions: line 42: /var/jupiter/available_resolutions_LVDS: Permission denied I assumed that it's coming from Jupiter. Infact, if Jupiter is removed as startup application the desktop settings are fine. Any idea how to solve that issue?

• Flaws in my PHP development setup - sharing sources causing lags

  I have following development setup for my PHP projects: Working station running on Windows 7 with PhpStorm IDE. GIT for version controlling. CentOS on virtual machine (VirtualBox) with Apache and MySQL (copy of production server). So far, I've been sharing project's source folders between host and guest systems and it was working quite well only really slow. The reason behind this is that Apache was reading files from remote folder (mounted locally). After doing some research, I found out that this set up can be improved by using disk mapping (Samba) instead of folder sharing. So I did that change. I configured my PhpStorm to automatically deploy files to mapped drive. Everything works like a charm now, except for one problem - when I change branches I need to synchronize project's local folder with the one on mapped drive and that takes time, a lot of time (like branching in SVN). Is there another way to handle this than just working on files directly on mapped drive?

  Currently we are using Innosetup as a bootstrapper to install the MSI prerequisites. It makes bit complex to maintain the setup. I found that burn tool which may help us to resolve this issue by having a single setup to install whatever we need. I could not find either documentation or sample for this tool. Is anyone have idea about this? or you can give me the alternate solution if you have. Looking for the alternate soltuion for the actions that we do with ISS bootstrapper now: Extract the files (Main setup, Prerequisite setup) Need to ensure prerequisites status and install on demand.   I want to make a backup of my /var/lib/mysql and /var/www folders and save them as tar.gz files to my mounted network file server (uslons001). My cron job looks like this. 30 7 * * fri /etc/cron.weekly/mysqlbackup.sh Which should execute at 7:30AM every Friday... What am I doing wrong? UPDATE1 - change the cron job line to the following: 44 8 * * 5 /etc/cron.weekly/mysqlbackup.sh with still no luck...is there a cron error log file that I can read to help pin point where the problem is?

  I need to configure a machine so software installation can be automated remotely via SSH. Following the wiki, I was able to setup SSH keys so my user can access the machine without a password, but I still need to manually enter my password when I use sudo, which obviously an automated process shouldn't have to do. Although my /etc/ssh/sshd_config has PermitRootLogin yes, I can't seem to be able to login as root, presumably because it's not a "real" account with a separate password. How do I configure SSH keys, so a process can remotely login as root on Ubuntu?

• Trying to setup a gateway via pppoe

  I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a computer. I want to use this computer as a router for my other computers. The computer only has 1 network card, there is no slot for a second card. I can get the computer to connect to my ISP via pppoe and it can access the web. However the other computers on my local net can only see the router computer. I have tried 2 different pppoe packages, roaring penguin and network-manager-gnome. When I get it to work I will be replacing a 15 year old computer that is running Slackware 7.1. The old computer is currently my router. It is running Roaring Penguin I tried to setup the new computer with the same Roaring Penguin parameters as the old computer. Bob

  I own the domain zenstealth.com and I have decided that the easiest way for me to "do" a blog is via GitHub pages and Jekyll, which is already built-in in GitHub pages. I've done that already, and for now I've already setup a CNAME record so that my GitHub pages repo zenstealth.github.com redirects to blog.zenstealth.com. What I want to do is instead of using a sub-domain for the blog, I'd like to make it use the top level domain zenstealth.com. The GitHub Pages instructions say to the set an A record to the ip 207.97.227.245. The problem in NearlyFreeSpeech.NET (let's call it NFSN for short) is that it already already sets A records to files which are hosted directly in NFSN, and I have absolutely no idea on how to override this.

How do i setup this up so I have it in a subdomain (i.e. test.livesite.com)? Is it just set it up on the server and only add the cname dns setting? Or is there a better way? • Four monitor setup with two Nvidia graphics cards

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and I have two nVidia quadro 2000 video cards, each with two monitors plugged in (all 4 monitors are identical). Now I have the latest nVidia drivers, and I'm trying to use the nVidia control panel to use all four monitors, and I can't get it to work. Currently, my configuration is using TwinView to have 2 monitors per X screen. This doesn't work well because either i turn xinerama on, and nothing appears on the screen when I start a X session with Compiz enabled. Things only work in Ubuntu 2D. i turn xinerama off, and compiz works, but now, I cant drag windows between the two screens and i have no idea how to start applications in the other screen. Is there a better way to configure my four monitor setup? Is there a way to get both GPUs onto a single X screen?

  I have a laptop with Windows XP and Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bits). Until now, I used Windows XP to connect to a Juniper VPN but now I'd like to try it with Linux. I read the mad scientist walkthrough (including the sun java part) but I can't run the setup. I get the popup that ask me if I'm sure I want to run the applet but then, nothing. mad-scientist says it's probably a C runtime lib problem and suggests to use his script with -nojava but he doesn't say how to install Network Connect in the first place. • Apache Virtual Host setup not working?

  I had follow this link to setup my first virtual host with apache2 under ubuntu 12.x. Looks easy but is not working. [How to][1] My internal dns can resolv the name, but my browsers is not showing me my webpage. from my lan, Im using ubuntu server no GUI. Every time I point to my virtual host name, I receive apache default page, I cannot see my custom page. My docs are under /home/mydomain/public_html This is my settings: ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost ServerName example.com DocumentRoot /home/example.com/public_html Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow,deny allow from all The rest of the file is the same.   I have a media server running ubuntu 12.04 and I want it setup so that any PC on the network (windows etc) has complete access to all files, folders etc with read, write, edit, copy to, copy from permissions. No need for security (IE no password or user name, just select it on the network and start editing). I have samba installed and personal file sharing is enabled but my windows PC cannot see it on the network. I already set up another server as I described but unfortunately I can't remember how or where I found the guides for it. Any on know of a guide that covers what I want?

• Config file (App.config) does not update on new installation

  I am creating setup of my project using Visula Studio 2008. I am facing problem in setup installation. If I uninstall old setup (application) and install the new one then config file (App.config) updates the attributes (surely it is new file) of config file but if I install new setup without uninstalling the old one then config file does not update. from config file I mean MyProject.exe.config Why is this behavior of config file. Should it not be updated on installation of the new setup Is this possible to delete and copy the config file of new setup? Is there a way to update only config file forcefully during installation. • Setup Exchange 2010 cannot verify Host (A) record warning

  When I try to install Exchange 2010 on my server 2008 R2 server I get a warning during the prerequisites check: Warning: setup cannot verify that the 'Host' (A) record for this computer exists within the DNS database on server: 90.195.200.12. The goal of this Exchange setup is that I'm able to sent email in my local domain as well receive/sent email through the public domain name. Some information about my setup This Server is going to be a dedicated exchange host and has the following IP setup: (IP's are examples and not the real IP's ofc) Local VLAN NIC: IP: 10.10.50.22 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 No gateway DNS: 10.10.50.1 (is domain controler with authoritive DNS) public WAN NIC: IP: 90.195.200.148 Subnet: 255.255.255.235 Gateway: 90.195.200.145 DNS: 90.195.200.12 | 190.160.230.14 My public domain - exampledomain.com A record: mail - IP: 90.195.200.148 MX record IP: 90.195.200.148 As I'm seeing now the exchange setup is looking for the A record in one of the DNS servers in my Public WAN NIC. And ofc this is not where my A records are defined. I have those A records in 2 places: 1. In the domain controler DNS (the private nic) 2. In the online dns registration of my public domain (exampledomain.com) My question is... is this warning going to be a problem? Can I do something better in my setup so that this warning will go away? Please advice?

• Setup and Use SpecFlow BDD with DevExpress XAF

  Let’s get started with using the SpecFlow BDD syntax for writing tests with the DevExpress XAF EasyTest scripting syntax.  In order for this to work you will need to download and install the prerequisites listed below.  Once they are installed follow the steps outlined below and enjoy. Prerequisites Install the following items: DevExpress eXpress Application Framework (XAF) found here SpecFlow found here Liekhus BDD/XAF Testing library found here Assumptions I am going to assume at this point that you have created your XAF application and have your Module, Win.Module and Win ready for usage.  You should have also set any attributes and/or settings as you see fit. Setup So where to start. Create a new testing project within your solution. I typically call this with a similar naming convention as used by XAF, my project name .FunctionalTests (i.e. AlbumManager.FunctionalTests). Add the following references to your project.  It should look like the reference list below. DevExpress.Data.v11.x DevExpress.Persistent.Base.v11.x DevExpress.Persistent.BaseImpl.v11.x DevExpress.Xpo.v11.2 Liekhus.Testing.BDD.Core Liekhus.Testing.BDD.DevExpress TechTalk.SpecFlow TestExecutor.v11.x (found in %Program Files%\DevExpress 2011.x\eXpressApp Framework\Tools\EasyTest Right click the TestExecutor reference and set the “Copy Local” setting to True.  This forces the TestExecutor executable to be available in the bin directory which is where the EasyTest script will be executed further down in the process. Add an Application Configuration File (app.config) to your test application.  You will need to make a few modifications to have SpecFlow generate Microsoft style unit tests.  First add the section handler for SpecFlow and then set your choice of testing framework.  I prefer MS Tests for my projects. Add the EasyTest configuration file to your project.  Add a new XML file and call it Config.xml. Open the properties window for the Config.xml file and set the “Copy to Ouput Directory” to “Copy Always”. You will setup the Config file according to the specifications of the EasyTest library my mapping to your executable and other settings.  You can find the details for the configuration of EasyTest here.  My file looks like this Create a new folder in your test project called “StepDefinitions”.  Add a new SpecFlow Step Definition file item under the StepDefinitions folder.  I typically call this class StepDefinition.cs. Have your step definition inherit from the Liekhus.Testing.BDD.DevExpress.StepDefinition class.  This will give you the default behaviors for your test in the next section. OK.  Now that we have done this series of steps, we will work on simplifying this.  This is an early preview of this new project and is not fully ready for consumption.  If you would like to experiment with it, please feel free.  Our goals are to make this a installable project on it’s own with it’s own project templates and default settings.  This will be coming in later versions.  Currently this project is in Alpha release. Let’s write our first test Remove the basic test that is created for you. We will not use the default test but rather create our own SpecFlow “Feature” files. Add a new item to your project and select the SpecFlow Feature file under C#. Name your feature file as you do your class files after the test they are performing. Writing a feature file uses the Cucumber syntax of Given… When… Then.  Think of it in these terms.  Givens are the pre-conditions for the test.  The Whens are the actual steps for the test being performed.  The Thens are the verification steps that confirm your test either passed or failed.  All of these steps are generated into a an EasyTest format and executed against your XAF project.  You can find more on the Cucumber syntax by using the Secret Ninja Cucumber Scrolls.  This document has several good styles of tests, plus you can get your fill of Chuck Norris vs Ninjas.  Pretty humorous document but full of great content. My first test is going to test the entry of a new Album into the application and is outlined below. The Feature section at the top is more for your documentation purposes.  Try to be descriptive of the test so that it makes sense to the next person behind you.  The Scenario outline is described in the Ninja Scrolls, but think of it as test template.  You can write one test outline and have multiple datasets (Scenarios) executed against that test.  Here are the steps of my test and their descriptions Given I am starting a new test – tells our test to create a new EasyTest file And (Given) the application is open – tells EasyTest to open our application defined in the Config.xml When I am at the “Albums” screen – tells XAF to navigate to the Albums list view And (When) I click the “New:Album” button – tells XAF to click the New Album button on the ribbon And (When) I enter the following information – tells XAF to find the field on the screen and put the value in that field And (When) I click the “Save and Close” button – tells XAF to click the “Save and Close” button on the detail window Then I verify results as “user” – tells the testing framework to execute the EasyTest as your configured user Once you compile and prepare your tests you should see the following in your Test View.  For each of your CreateNewAlbum lines in your scenarios, you will see a new test ready to execute. From here you will use your testing framework of choice to execute the test.  This in turn will execute the EasyTest framework to call back into your XAF application and test your business application. Updating the local system from Solaris 11.1 to Solaris 11.1 SRU 16.5We assume that the local system is currently installed with Solaris 11.1 GA and the system doesn't have internet connectivity.What I have:1. Two parts of full repo iso files downloaded from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris11/downloads/index.html. Both files are concatenated to a single file using the following command. $ cat sol-11_1-repo-full.iso-a sol-11_1-repo-full.iso-b > sol-11_1-repo-full.iso I suggest to verify the downloaded file against its md5checksum value [http://download.oracle.com/otn/solaris/11_1/md5sum.txt] using the following command digest -a md5 <file-name>  // the output of this command should match the original checksum value for that file.2. Incremental repo sol-11_1_16_5_0-incr-repo.iso downloaded from MOS [Patch 18269379: ORACLE SOLARIS 11.1.16.5.0 REPO ISO IMAGE (SPARC/X86 (64-BIT)]. You can get the checksum value of incremental repo iso by clicking the check box "show digest details" when you download the file.3. The local system IP is 192.168.10.10 & port 81 is reserved for repo serverPlease note that this repo file (either full or incremental) is common for both SPARC and X86(64BIT).Steps to update the local system: 1. #mounting s11.1 full repo iso to mnt        $ mount -F hsfs /soft/sol-11_1-repo-full.iso /mnt 2. Setting the pkg publisher to full repo source         $ pkg set-publisher -g file:///mnt/repo solaris 3. Perform the update of the packages.        $ pkg updateII. Setting up local system (Oracle Solaris 11.1) as an IPS Repository Server(HTTP interface):Please note that we have already mounted the full repo iso at /mnt    1. # copying /mnt permanently to the disk location at /s11.1        #zfs create -o atime=off -o mountpoint=/s11.1 rpool/s11.1        #rsync -aP /mnt/* /s11.1     2. #unmounting mnt         #umount /mnt3. To allow clients to access the local repository via HTTP, enable the application/pkg/server Service Management Facility (SMF) service.        svccfg -s application/pkg/server setprop pkg/inst_root=<data_source>/repo        eg: $svccfg -s application/pkg/server setprop pkg/inst_root=/s11.1/repo4. Setting port# to 81      svccfg -s application/pkg/server setprop pkg/port=<port_number>      eg: svccfg -s application/pkg/server setprop pkg/port="81"5a. Enable the pkg/server service (if the service is disabled)     $svcs pkg/server     STATE          STIME    FMRI     disabled        19:55:03 svc:/application/pkg/server:default      $svcadm enable pkg/server5b. Refresh/Restart the service, if it is already online       $svcadm refresh application/pkg/server       $svcadm restart application/pkg/server6. Setting pkg publisher on repo server and repo clients:      pkg set-publisher -G '*' -g http://<ip>:<port> solaris      eg: $pkg set-publisher -G '*' -g 'http://192.168.10.10:81' solaris7. Verify the Solaris 11.1 version from the repository         $pkgrepo list -s http://192.168.10.10:81 | grep entire         solaris   entire     0.5.11,5.11-0.175.1.0.0.24.2:20120919T190135Z You will have multiple row entries if the repository is setup with incremental SRUs.III. Updating the local repository with the incremental Solaris 11.1 SRU 16.51. #mounting s11.1 incremental SRU repo iso to mnt        $ mount -F hsfs <full_path_to>/sol-11_1_sruN_bldnum_respinnum-incr-repo.iso  /mnt        $ mount -F hsfs /soft/sol-11_1_16_5_0-incr-repo.iso /mnt2. Updating the local repository        $pkgrecv -s  /mnt/repo -d /s11.1/repo '*'3. Building a Search Index    $pkgrepo -s /s11.1/repo refresh     Initiating repository refresh.4. Refresh/Restart the service       $svcadm refresh svc:/application/pkg/server       $svcadm restart svc:/application/pkg/server5. Verify the repo has the incremental SRU as well.       # pkgrepo list -s http://192.168.10.10:81 | grep entire        solaris   entire      0.5.11,5.11-0.175.1.16.0.5.0:20140218T165248Z       solaris   entire      0.5.11,5.11-0.175.1.0.0.24.2:20120919T190135Z

• Windows expand over 2 monitors in quad-monitor setup

  i just installed ubuntu 11.10 with my previous hardware setup: 4 monitors and 2 identical nvidia graphic cards. draging windows around all 4 monitors works nice, but when i maximize a window it expand always over 2 screens. • Setup for mounting kerberized nfs home directory - gssd not finding valid kerberos ticket

  Our home directories are exported via kerberized nfs, so the user needs a valid kerberos ticket to be able to mount its home. This setup works fine with our existing clients & server. Now we want to add some 11.10 client and thus set up ldap & kerberos together with pam_mount. The ldap authentication works and users can login via ssh, however their homes can not be mounted. When pam_mount is configured to mount as root, gssd does not find a valid kerberos ticket and the mount fails.
