• Mouse Error Code 24. Windows 7

  I've had the same mouse for a while, and it's been working fine until one day, it started giving me a message about a device not working properly. I tried updating the drivers, and re-installing, I even deleted old drivers in case my computer should be a little confused. It never made a difference, and my mouse seemed to be working just fine despite getting the permanent error in my device manager, I looked it up several times online, but I never found anything I could actually use, when I go to official websites, I always get the same response "plug in so so into a different place - drivers - install silverlight before you can watch this tutorial, try it on a different machine". so I gave up on that. But now is where I have a real problem, lately, my little strange error evolved into a fullblown Error 24, and my mouse is starting to turn on and off randomely, especially when it is being used, but I do hear it go "badum..dadum" when I'm off doing something else. when I looked up error code 24, I really didn't find much other than it meaning: Code 24 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) Cause The device is installed incorrectly. The problem could be a hardware failure, or a new driver might be needed. Devices stay in this state if they have been prepared for removal. After you remove the device, this error disappears. But, I have tried uninstalling the device entirely several times, and it'll go right back to its previous state with error 24, and turning on and off randomely. what do I do? I cannot afford taking it to a repair place, I can't really afford a new mouse either, I refuse to buy cheap ones as I am a gamer, in need of more than 3 buttons, and a good grip is important. Could there possibly be some confusion in the registry? I do remember having gotten some early problems after I converted my vista to windows7. But I hardly dare going in there unless I'm 100% certain of what I'm going for, and I can honestly say I am at a loss here. Edit: it is a USB mouse we're talking about here. • Resizing an image using mouse dragging (C#)

  Hi all. I'm having some trouble resizing an image just by dragging the mouse. I found an average resize method and now am trying to modify it to use the mouse instead of given values. The way I'm doing it makes sense to me but maybe you guys can give me some better ideas. I'm basically using the distance between the current location of the mouse and the previous location of the mouse as the scaling factor. If the distance between the current mouse location and the center of of the image is less than the distance between previous mouse location and the center of the image then the image gets smaller, and vice-versa. • Blank displays after inactivity, mouse cursor not showing up

  I have a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 machine that is exhibiting some strange problems. After some inactivity (it varies how long it takes), when I come back to my computer, both of my monitors are black. The monitors are on, with a black display. Moving the mouse and pressing keys on the keyboard do not work. This happens at least once a day. When I first encountered the issue, I performed a hard shutdown and restarted the computer. About 10% of the time when I did this, the resolutions on my monitors were messed up. The native resolution on the primary monitor is 1600x900, and the native on my secondary is 1440x900. None of the widescreen resolutions would be present in the display properties. I had 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024. As a workaround to this issue, I've found that if I plug in my secondary monitor as the primary monitor, and leave the secondary unplugged, then Windows will start in 1024x768 on the secondary. Then, I can use Windows 7's "Detect" feature and it finds the 1440x900 resolution, and sets it. Then I have to connect the primary monitor to the secondary port and set it as the primary. Then I can switch the two cables, putting the primary into the primary, the secondary into the secondary. Then use the "Detect" feature again, and it finds the correct resolutions. Some time after performing the above, I discovered that when the screens were blanked, I could simply press "Control+Alt+Delete", type in my password, and everything comes up fine - except my mouse cursor. All applications and features work as intended, except there is no mouse cursor (the mouse actually works though...). I have the "Show location of pointer when I press CTRL key" option selected, so I can press CTRL and use my mouse as normal - but I have no actual cursor. When the computer is in this state, UAC is also not functional. Whenever a UAC prompt appears, the screens go black (the original symptoms) and I have to press Escape to exit UAC. Because of the above symptoms (the UAC black screen thing, etc) I beleive winlogon.exe may be the culprit. However, I have no idea how to fix it. I am unable to restart winlogon.exe due to the problems I am having with winlogon.exe (the UAC black screen) Looking for any ideas.... More information Windows 7 x86 Enterprise Domain environment (I have a secondary account with administrator rights) Dell Optiplex 960 Cannot perform "optional" windows updates due to an activation issue (I am testing a windows 7 image, and an activation infrastructure has not been created yet. However, this issue was happening before I was unable to perform windows update, and windows was up to date at the time Updated video card driver (as an attempt to fixing the resolution issue) Disabled all power saving options Please let me know what else you need to help me solve this issue!   Hi, I am recently have been successfully installed NetBean 6.8 on Ubuntu Box (10.04). But the problem is, NetBeans doesn't use the Gnome mouse Cursor by default. instead, It uses some freak mouse cursor that I hate! • Triple ghost animated cursor

  Since installing the driver for Intuos 4 Graphics tablet, animated cursors display as a triple ghost cursor. I cannot find any reference to this problem elsewhere. System specifications: new Dell XPS, Windows 7, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670. Graphics tablet and graphics software are virtually useless since the cursor hotspot is nearly impossible to identify. All drivers and software are current. Any thoughts? Vendors deny any knowledge or responsibility. Removing the Intuos driver does not fix this.

  Using vs2008, winforms C#. Im using the crystal reports version that comes with vs2008. I can create and load a crystal report ok. But becasue it can take a few minutes to load, i want to bring up a wait cursor, but am having trouble with that. I have tried setting the this.crystalReportViewer1.Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor; and tried the parent form this.cursor = cursors.waitcursor; The cursor changes briefly to wait mode, then changes back before the report has finished loading. How can i best set the wait cursor before the report starts to load, force it to stay in wait mode then change it back to the arrow, only after the report has finished loading thanks for any advice

Currently I can write with my mouse and the tablet OCR recognizes even that poor handwriting but if there is a pen-shaped mouse that I could just plug and play that would be great. I believe that if I see some statistics of my use of both input devices, I could reduce my use of mouse clicks.   I've recently acquired a Steelseries Sensei. Despite being a great mouse, I'm having some trouble finding settings that I can get used to... The mouse engine allows me to set a CPI from 0 to 5700. It also allows me to set it even higher, calling it "DCPI" (Double CPI), from 5701 to 11400. On Window's Control Panel, there's a "Pointer Speed" slider and a "Enhance Pointer Precision" checkbox (wording may be different as I use a non-english version). The majority of games allow me to set an in-game "Mouse Sensitivity". Some games let me use a "Raw mouse input". I'm already familiar with the basics of CPI/DPI - "higher CPI means less hand movement", but what are the differences between all those options? Is there a "better" or "worst" setting?

• Wireless USB keyboard and mouse can wake system, but then receiver is inactive

  I have a Microsoft brand USB device that acts as a receiver for a wireless Microsoft Keyboard and a wireless Mouse. When it's operating normally, there are LEDs on the device indicating Caps Lock, Num Lock and Function Lock, of which the latter 2 are usually lit. It is plugged into a Dell Isnpiron 531 with Windows 7 32-bit running on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 5000+. When the computer goes to sleep (the power indicator on the main box is flashing), I can wake it by moving the mouse. So far all is good. However, something changed in, I think, the past couple weeks (I suspect due to a Microsoft driver update problem). Before the change, after waking the computer, everything would operate normally as far as I could tell, but now after waking the computer, the receiver has no lights on, and the keyboard and mouse are completely unresponsive (which is odd, considering the mouse woke up the computer). There is a button on the receiver that's supposed to reset the wireless connection and flash the lights while it does so, but it has no effect in this state. It's like the receiver doesn't have power (but how would the system know I moved the mouse, unless the power was on until it woke up?). I have checked the BIOS/CMOS settings or whatever you call them, and did not see anything related to USB in the power management section. I have checked Windows 7 device manager and ensured that all the USB Root Hub devices have the setting unchecked for allowing the USB power to be turned off. Like I said, this was working before, and the only thing I can think of that's changed is applying Windows Updates.

• How to calibrate your mouse's X/Y in Windows Vista

  I've just installed a new Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and it's X/Y calibration/alignment seems to be off. If I move the mouse from left to right, the cursor will go up and down slightly. If I move the mouse from top to bottom, the cursor will also move from left to right slightly too. I seem to remember in earlier version of Windows or Intelli Point, there was a calibration tool which would fix this issue. Can anyone help? Many Thanks Stephen

• X.org - mouse gets stuck on press

  I'm using Arch Linux. Very often, when I click on something, the OS thing sees the mouse press but not the release. If it was a link or file I clicked, moving the cursor would drag it too. Hammering the same mouse button again gives no effect. Usually, if I tap the touchpad (ALPS), the system finally sees both press and release of that, and I can continue working. (This might be because it uses a different driver - synaptics instead of evdev.) As you can imagine, this is quite annoying even for someone who spends 70% of his life in front of a terminal app. This is not a mouse issue - I'm on a laptop, and this affects both the Trackpoint thing and an external USB mouse. This is not a DE or window manager issue - I have used GNOME (with Metacity, Compiz and Xfwm4), Xfce (with Metacity and Xfwm4), mwm, twm, awesome, and wmii. Doesn't seem to be a hardware thing - after rebooting into Windows XP, everything works fine. hal is used for the auto-configuration of devices (as I have to disconnect the USB mouse often), so Xorg.conf really has nothing of relevance. Xorg -version shows: X.Org X Server 1.6.3.901 (1.6.4 RC 1) Release Date: 2009-8-25 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 If it changes anything, the laptop is stone-age Dell Latitude C840. I kinda suspect either hal or the evdev thing to cause it, but I really have no ideas on what to check further. In other words, HALP!#$ This thing is driving me nuts.

• Vista Remote Desktop Mouse Drag Not Working

  I've been using Remote Desktop to connect from a Windows Vista machine to a Windows XP machine. Everything used to work fine, but a few weeks ago I found that I could not drag things with my mouse. I can click on things just fine, but I cannot move or resize windows or select text with the mouse. I did some experimenting, and it seems that the remote machine behaves as though it gets a mouse up event shortly after it gets the mouse down event, even though I am still holding the button down. On both machines, things work fine outside of Remote Desktop. I did reinstall the OS and software on my Windows Vista machine a couple of months ago, and that might have been about the same time that this problem appeared. I don't frequently use Remote Desktop, so I can't be sure. Does anyone have any suggestions?

• Windows XP runs New Hardware Wizard for usb keyboard and mouse, can't find drivers

  I have a PC that up until a couple days ago was working fine. I moved it from one site to another and now when I plug in the USB mouse or keyboard (the same ones that were working previously) XP brings up the New Hardware Wizard. Going through it, the correct keyboard and mouse are identified, but XP can't find the drivers. I've tried manually searching for the driver (using the Have Disk option) - the first file it's looking for is in the c:\i386 directory, but that installs a generic HID mouse device; the system then runs the hardware wizard for a new "unknown" device. The system was SP2, I have installed SP3 in hopes that would help, and I've also downloaded and installed the mouse drivers from Dell's site (there are no specific drivers for the keyboard), with no change. Before I completely reinstall XP, is there anything else I should try?

• What is the registry key for 'Enhanced Pointer Precision' option in the Mouse Properties

  I use a Razer mouse at work, and though the mouse is supercool, it's driver always removes the 'Enhanced Pointer Precision' option from the Pointer Options tab found in the Mouse Properties of Control Panel on startup. If I could find the correct registry setting to set this option 'on' whenever Windows starts, it would solve my problem. I've tried finding the correct key using Process Monitor, I didn't get success. Anyone know the key??

• How to stop mouse "pausing".

  My Microsoft mouse recently stopped working, so I purchased an AOpen O-35G, plug and play. No software came with it and I was advised to "just plug it in". I did this, and it worked, although some of the more advanced features do not work. My problem is that now the mouse cursor hesitates occasionally, and then over shoots the target I selected. This never happened before. It seems to happen when I am using the mouse and a browser window reloads. Does anyone know how to change this? It is very annoying. XP Pro SP3 Thanks. EDIT: It is not a problem of dust or a hair. I have contacted the Manufacturere and they are not responding. I have the mouse attached to my computer via a powered USB hub. I am going to try plugging it in directly to see if that makes a difference.

• The USB mouse sticks in Windows 7 after automatic attempt to fix the boot

  Avast Antivirus asked me to delete a probable virus and to restart to perform a checking. I had to stop the checking at the middle of the procedure as I needed the computer. It was imposible to turn off the computer pushing the power button (as it entered in suspension mode, no matter how long I kept pushed the power button). I removed the battery as the only way to restart the computer. Windows 7 said that there is a problem to iniziate Windows. Windows 7 tried to fix the problem without success. Windows 7 started after that though. Everything is OK but the USB mouse. The USB mouse sticks and freezes each couple of seconds more or less. The tactile mouse (PS2) works well. I googled for solutions but the posible solutions didn't work for me. What happened? How could I fix it without formatting and reinstalling everything? UPDATE: this is what I did: Change the mouse from one usb port to another Test another mouse Set the number of cores of the CPU manually with msconfig Power management: not disable usb ports Check hard disk errors

• Middle mouse click in VirtualBox (Vista host, Debian guest)

  I'm running Virtualbox on Windows Vista. I have a Microsoft USB mouse (it says "Comfort Optical Mouse 3000") with left and right buttons, and a mousewheel in the middle. If I press down on the wheel, it pretty obviously makes a "click". I'm running Debian inside Virtualbox, and it's working great, but middle-mouse-click does nothing. Left and right click, and scrolling with the wheel, work fine. Is there any way to get middle-mouse-click to work in my virtual machine?

• Mouse clicks suddenly stopped working in Ubuntu

  This is a weird one. For some reason, last night my mouse partially stopped working. Movement is fine, but the mouse buttons don't work. Mainly it's the left button, but occasionally the right click and scroll-wheel fail too. Initially I thought it could be the mouse itself (the left button seemed to get a bit "soft" recently), but I tried another mouse and had the same issue. Both are USB wireless optical mice. The keyboard is working okay 95%, only problem is Alt+Tab doesn't seem to work. Both keys work fine independently. At the time it happened I was using Chrome, I dragged to scrollbar to scroll and when I released the mouse it was still holding scrollbar. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, I upgraded weeks ago and everything was working fine so I don't think it's related to that. I also hadn't run any updates (I have now just in case something fixed it). But no luck. Any ideas?

• Problem with usb wireless mouse

  Recently I have started having problems with my wireless mouse (Wireless Optical Mouse MI-4910D). Sometimes when I start my PC or during a game the pointer/arrow stops moving. When the PC boots the pointer is locked in the center of the screen. If I'm lucky it helps to change the USB wireless adapter from port 1 to port 2 but sometimes this trick doesn't work and I have to restart my PC to get the mouse to work again. Like you can see in the product web page this mouse don't have a driver but only a tool to solve some problems. • Scrolling mouse sets windows sound volume

  Suddenly, when I use the scroll wheel of my mouse, it changes the windows sound volume level. I have a HP DV6-2030SD laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and a Zolid p50622 mouse. When I use the scroll function of the mouse pad of the laptop, it does not adjust the sound level. I don't have any special mouse drivers installed, just the standard windows drivers. When I scroll, I see the HP sound level screen: It doesn't do it always, but when it does, it prevents the current window to scroll, which is really annoying. Rebooting doesn't help. I've tried to put the USB dongle in a different port, but this doesn't help either. Any advise on how I can fix this?
