  • What does a connection timeout indicate when performing an NFS mount?

    - by DeeDee
    We have a shiny new QNAP NAS (TS-879U-RP), and I'm trying to mount it to our big ol' RHEL server in the same manner as our other two QNAP NAS devices. The IT department won't give me the root privileges to the NAS, so I can't SSH in (I know, I know). The first thing I did was to, via the QNAP web admin interface, create a network share named "Runs." I then added the IP of the RHEL server to the permissions list: On the RHEL server, I then added the following line to /etc/fstab: [IP of NAS]:/Runs /mnt/gsrnas3 nfs defaults 0 0 Aside from the IP and the specific mount directory name, this is how I mounted the other two NAS devices. I then created the gsrnas3 directory under /mnt/, and then ran `mount /mnt/gsrnas3' I got the following error: mount.nfs: Connection timed out My first thought is that it's a ports issue, but I don't have enough specific experience with this issue to know for sure. I have two other NAS devices by the same manufacturer already mounted to this RHEL server, so that leads me to believe the configuration issue is on the NAS side of things. I can ping the NAS device successfully from the RHEL server. Not being able to SSH into said NAS is a huge hassle, though. Any ideas?

  • Does the same lame settings (--alt-preset standard) have differrent names?

    - by erikric
    I've always used windows, and therefore EAC to rip my CDs, but since I've started using Ubuntu more often, I decided to try to rip some albums there. I ended up using k3b (since I found it in the Ubuntu Software center. Tried to install RubyRipper first, but when 'sudo apt-get install ' or UDC fails, a Windows user like me is lost) The real question here is about the settings for the lame encoder. I'm used to just writing --alt-preset standard, and everything works like a charm, but the default in k3b look like this: lame -r --bitwidth 16 --little-endian -s 44.1 -h --tt %t --ta %a --tl %m --ty %y --tc %c --tn %n - %f I assume these are some sensible lame settings, and not a malicious perl script (although it looks like it). It seems to me like some of these ought to be there, and that I can not overwrite the whole thing with my good ol' --alt-preset. So, the question is do I need to replace anything, or is -h the same as old --alt-preset? Is it a difference between '--preset standard' and '--alt-preset standard'? And are those the same as -V 2?

  • 10 GigE interfaces limits single connection throughput to 1 Gb on a ProCurve 4208vl

    - by wazoox
    The setup is as follow : 3 Linux servers with Intel CX4 10 GigE controllers and an X-Serve with a Myricom 10 GigE CX4 controller are connected to a ProCurve 4208vl switch, with a myriad of other machines connected through good ol' 1000 base-T. The interfaces are actually set up as 10 Gig, according to both the switch monitoring interface and the servers (ethtool, etc). However a single connection between two 10 GigE equipped machines through the switch is limited to exactly 1Gb. If I connect two of the 10 GigE machines directly with a CX4 cable, netperf reports the link bandwidth as 9000 Mb/s. NFS achieves about 550 MB/s transfers. But when I'm using the switch, the connection tops at 950 Mb/s through netperf and 110 MB/s with NFS. When I open several connections from 3 of the machines to the 4th, I get 350 MB/s of NFS transfer speed. So each individual 10 GigE ports actually can reach much more than 1 Gb, but individual connections are strictly limited to 1 Gb. Conclusion : the 10 GigE connection through the switch behaves exactly like a trunk of 10 1 Gb connections. That doesn't make any sense to me, unless HP planned these ports only for cascading switches or strictly for many-clients-to-single-server connection. Unfortunately this is NOT the envisioned setup, we need big throughput from machine to machine. Is this a not-so-known (or carefully hidden...) limitation of this type of switch? Should I suggest seppuku to the HP representative? Does anyone have any idea on how to enable a proper behaviour ? I upgraded for an hefty price from bonded 1Gb links to 10 GigE and see exactly ZERO gain! That's absolutely unacceptable.

  • Prevent Amazon EC2 Time zone from reverting back on yum update

    - by D.Tate
    I use an Amazon EC2 server instance that runs a distro called Amazon Linux AMI. (I've read that it is based on CentOS/Red Hat). My specific version is the 2012.09 release. Anyway, I was able to change the time zone about a week ago from the default UTC to America/New_York (which is EST/EDT). The command I used to change it was: ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/New_York /etc/localtime ...thanks to this other Server Fault question. At that point, I was able to run date from the the command line, and it correctly displayed the EDT time. And even after EDT "fell back" to EST this past Sunday, I was pleased to find that running date still produced the correct local time. So that was great. However, after running a yum update yesterday, it seems that my time zone got reverted back to plain 'ol UTC. I even checked the last modified time of /etc/localtime file, and indeed it confirmed that it had been modified around the same time I had updated. Is there any way to prevent this from happening again, or will I be stuck resetting the time zone every time I do a yum update?

  • Booting an Asus EeePC from a LiveCD USB stick

    - by Bryan
    I have two identical Asus EeePC netbooks that are both installed with Ubuntu. One of them was sitting on the closet shelf and the battery went completely dead. When I charged the battery and tried to boot the it, I got the "No init found" error. In trying to follow the suggested way to fix it posted here, I used the Startup Disk Creator on my Ubuntu 11.10 desktop machine to create a USB stick with a bootable Ubuntu 11.10 live CD on it (the netbook doesn't have a CD drive). I plugged the USB stick into the netbook with the init issues, went into the BIOS and selected the USB stick as the 1st choice to boot from, and did a hard restart. It then just stuck at the flashing underscore. Not knowing why it wasn't working, I tried booting my working netbook from the USB stick. When I got into the BIOS on the working netbook, I noticed the description in the boot order section for the USB device was different. On the non-working netbook, the description was SWISSBIT (the name of the USB stick) but on the working netbook it was just "Rem. Drive". I also noticed on the working netbook there was an additional option under the bootable order section that allowed me to choose which hard drive to boot from. This section showed two hard drives, one of them being my USB stick. So, rather than changing the device boot order, I selected the USB stick as the hard drive to boot from first and it worked like a champ - I was able to boot into the LiveCD on the USB stick. Seems to me the working netbook is seeing the LiveCD USB stick as a hard drive, where-as the non-working netbook is seeing it as a plain ol' USB stick. The BIOS is the exact same version on both netbooks... any idea why it works on one and not on the other?

  • What to do with old laptop screens?

    - by Lord Torgamus
    This question is inspired by another SU question I came across earlier today: What to do with old hard drives? It made me think about two long-dead laptops I have with perfectly good screens still inside. One is a Dell Inspiron 5100 and the other is an Averatec E1200, but responses need not be geared towards those particular models' screens. Rules, based heavily on the original question's: Objectives and suggestions to keep in mind when you post an answer : Should showcase your geekiness, be plain ol' fun, serve a social purpose or benefit the community. Your answer need not be limited to only one screen. For a really good answer, I'll go out and buy additional leftover screens. Your answer need not be limited to one project per screen. If additional accessories need be purchased, make sure they are common. Don't tell me to get a moon rock or something. The projects you suggested should serve a useful purpose; art is nice, but functional art is way better. Thanks in advance, folks. EDIT: Found another related question. Fun projects to do with an old 17" LCD monitor EDIT 2: I, for one, am enjoying the new outpouring of creativity here. Best fifty bucks... I mean, rep points... I ever spent. EDIT 3: That does it. At the end of the week, there was a tie for most votes between the accepted answer and the game platform answer. The game platform answer was cooler, but less reasonable as a project to actually do; in other words, it was more moon rocky. Unfortunately, I think fencepost had the best comment on the topic, which is that displays on their own have no good interface. Thanks for playing, everyone!

  • Change "Show Desktop" to "Minimize All"

    - by V0R73X
    I'd like to use Alt-Tab a lot when I'm programming under Windows. It's the quickest method to switch between windows. However, there's one annoying thing about this, and that is when I switch over to "Desktop" using Alt-Tab, Windows uses the "Show Desktop" command instead of minimizing all Windows. I personally hate Show Desktop, since it creates a separate window on top of all the other windows which captures a live display of desktop, and this causes all the widgets I have on the desktop to be hidden under this live window, and I LOVE my widgets. An ideal behavior for when I switch tabs to Desktop using Alt-Tab would be the "Minimize All" behavior, which simply minimizes all windows, leaving me with my actual desktop, which sits behind everything. In order to achieve this, I have to move my fingers across the keyboard, and press Win+M. This decreases my efficiency by .5 seconds, which is a LOT of time. How can I tell windows to use "Minimize All" rather than "Show Desktop" when I use my good ol' Alt-Tab functionality to switch over to desktop and save .5 seconds in time?

  • Why won't "!important" override ":first-line"?

    - by bazzlevi
    I am trying to do the tutorial in Chapter 6 of the 2nd edition of "CSS: The Missing Manual", and I've run into an issue I'm trying to understand. I have one style that looks like this: #main p:first-line { color: #999999; font-weight: bold; } Later I have another style that looks like this: #main p.byline { color: #00994D !important; font-size: 1.6em; margin: 5px 0 25px 50px; } I am confused because the second one won't override the color choice in the first one despite the fact that the second one has "!important" in it. I put both classes into an online specificity calculator, and the second one comes out being more specific, so I'm doubly confused. By the way, the inclusion of "!important" is the work-around suggested in the errata for the book. Odd that it still doesn't work! Here's the code for the entire page: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>CSS Typography</title> <style type="text/css"> html, body, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, p, ol, ul, li, pre, code, address, variable, form, fieldset, blockquote { padding: 0; margin: 0; font-size: 100%; font-weight: normal; } table { border-collapse: collapse; border-spacing: 0; } td, th, caption { font-weight: normal; text-align: left; } img, fieldset { border: 0; } ol { padding-left: 1.4em; list-style: decimal; } ul { padding-left: 1.4em; list-style:square; } q:before, q:after { content:''; } body { color: #002D4B; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 62.5% } #main h1 { color: #F60; font-family: "Arial Black", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 4em; } #main h2 { font: bold 3.5em "Hoefler Text", Garamond, Times, serif; border-bottom: 1px solid #002D4B; margin-top: 25px; } #main h3 { color: #F60; font-size: 1.9em; font-weight: bold; text-transform: uppercase; margin-top: 25px; margin-bottom: 10px; } #main p { font-size: 1.5em; line-height: 150%; margin-left: 150px; margin-right: 50px; margin-bottom: 10px; } #main p:first-line { color: #999999; font-weight: bold; } #main ul { margin: 50px 0 25px 50px; width: 150px; float: right; } #main li { color: #207EBF; font-size: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 7px; } #main p.byline { color: #00994D !important; font-size: 1.6em; margin: 5px 0 25px 50px; } #main .byline strong { color: #207EBF; text-transform: uppercase; margin-left: 5px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="main"> <h1><strong>CSS</strong> The Missing Manual</h1> <h2>Exploring Typographic Possibilities</h2> <p class="byline">november 30 <strong>Rod Dibble</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lorem Ipsum</li> <li>Reprehenderit qui in ea</li> <li>Lorem Ipsum</li> <li>Reprehenderit qui in ea</li> <li>Lorem Ipsum</li> <li>Reprehenderit qui in ea</li> </ul> <h3>Esse quam nulla</h3> <p>Ut enim ad minima veniam, quis nostrum exercitationem ullam corporis suscipit laboriosam, nisi ut aliquid ex ea commodi consequatur?   • How to let short content pages reach the bottom of the browser window and then a footer should appea

    - by UXdesigner
    In this case, I've developed a CSS code for this web application ..and sometimes the resulting data is too small and the footer of the site appears in the middle of the page and looks odd. I'd like to push that whitespace of the background to the browser's bottom and then followed by a footer. AND if the page is long, that text won't get overlapped by the footer. Can someone help me out with this code right here? I've been trying to use some of the codes I found on this page:http://matthewjamestaylor.com/blog/keeping-footers-at-the-bottom-of-the-page which talks about pretty much the same issue, but I can't get it completely done: What am I doing wrong ? @charset "utf-8"; body { margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: center; height:100%; position: relative; height:100%; /* needed for container min-height */ } .spacer { clear: both; height: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; font-size: 0.1em; } .spacer_left { clear: left; margin: 0 0 10px 0; padding: 0; font-size: 0.1em; } hr { height: 1px; margin: 20px 0 20px 0; border: 0; color: #ccc; background: #ccc; } #container { position:relative; /* needed for footer positioning*/ height:auto !important; /* real browsers */ height:100%; /* IE6: treaded as min-height*/ min-height:100%; /* real browsers */ width: 1160px; /* width of the site ! */ margin: 0 auto; padding: 0; border: 1px solid #333; text-align: left; } /* Context Bar */ h1#contexto { background:url('../images/menubarbg2.png'); width:1160px; height:30px; position:relative; margin-top:10px; visibility: inherit; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; } #header { margin: 0; padding: 5px; height:70px; } h1#titulo { margin: 0; padding: 0 0 0; } #content { margin: -15px 20px 0 20px; /*padding: -6px 5px 20px 5px;*/ padding:1em 1em 5em; /* bottom padding for footer */ } div#content.columns { margin-left: 100px; } #content abbr, #content acronym { cursor: help; border-bottom: 1px dotted; } #content ul { list-style-type: square; } #content ul li, #content ol li { margin: 0 0 0.4em 0; padding: 0; } #content blockquote { width: 75%; margin: 0 auto; padding: 20px; } #footer { margin: 0; height: -30px; padding: 5px; clear: both; bottom:0; position:relative; } UPDATE: THE SOLUTION @charset "utf-8"; body, html { margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: center; position: relative; height:100%; /* needed for footer positioning*/ } .spacer { clear: both; height: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; font-size: 0.1em; } .spacer_left { clear: left; margin: 0 0 10px 0; padding: 0; font-size: 0.1em; } hr { height: 1px; margin: 20px 0 20px 0; border: 0; color: #ccc; background: #ccc; } #container { position:relative; /* needed for footer positioning*/ min-height: 100%;/* needed for footer positioning*/ height: auto !important;/* needed for footer positioning*/ height: 100%;/* needed for footer positioning*/ margin: 0 auto -30px;/* needed for footer positioning*/ width: 1160px; padding: 0; border: 1px solid #333; text-align: left; } #header { margin: 0; padding: 5px; height:70px; } h1#titulo { margin: 0; padding: 0 0 0; } h1#contexto { background:url('../images/menubarbg2.png'); width:1160px; height:30px; position:relative; margin-top:10px; visibility: inherit; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; } #content { margin: -15px 20px 30px 20px; /* needed for footer positioning*/ } div#content.columns { margin-left: 100px; } #content abbr, #content acronym { cursor: help; border-bottom: 1px dotted; } #content ul { list-style-type: square; } #content ul li, #content ol li { margin: 0 0 0.4em 0; padding: 0; } #content blockquote { width: 75%; margin: 0 auto; padding: 20px; } #footer, .push /* needed for footer positioning*/ { padding: 5px; clear: both; position:absolute;/* needed for footer positioning*/ bottom:0;/* needed for footer positioning*/ height: -30px;/* needed for footer positioning*/ width:1150px; }

  • css: problems with floating a sidebar

    - by user239831
    hey guys, i can't seem to get it working. i have a div.post with #comments and a #respond form underneath it. the div.post contains the #comments and the #respond form. i simply want to float the sidebar to the right of the entire div.post and i cannot seem to get it work. here is an example. any idea how to solve that - its probably quite simple. :) <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <title>layout</title> <style type="text/css"> body { margin:0; padding:0; } #main { width:100%; background:#cfcfcf; } .inner { margin: 0 auto; padding: 96px 72px 0; width: 1068px; border-color: #000; border-style: solid; border-width: 0 1px; color: #3C3C3C; } .post { width: 705px; background:#999; } #comments, #respond { width: 705px; background:#999; } #sidebar { width:338px; background:#777; margin-left:730px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="main"> <div class="inner"> <div id="post" class="post"> <h2>Lorem Ipsum Test Page</h2> <div class="entry"> <p>Lorem ipsum sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor invidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliquyam erat, sed diam voluptua.   • Trying to randomise a jQuery content slider

    - by alecrust
    Hi everyone, I'm using a very nice jQuery content slider called Easy Slider on my site that I downloaded from Css Globe. The script is excellent and does just what I want - except I can't make it randomise the list, it always scrolls from left to right or right to left! I'm far from good with JavaScript, so my attempts at solving this have been feeble. Although I'm sure it must be an easy fix! If anyone wouldn't mind taking a glance over the script to see if they can spot what I need to change to make it random it would be greatly appreciated! I've tried contacting the original plugin developer but have had no response yet. The comments on the Easy Slider page didn't bear much fruit either unfortunately. • Adapting a HTML/CSS dropdown menu to multi-level

    - by Adam Nygate
    Ive been trying to make the original dropdown into multi level for a site im working on. All of my attempts have failed (. For some reason i can only do "margin-right" to align the elements, and this causes some problems. I think it has something to do with the position attribute. Here is my HTML: <ol id="nav"> <li><a href="index.php">Home</a></li> <li class="dropdown_alignedLeft"> <a href="">Products</a> <ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">iPoP</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=ipop">iPoP - Network Solutions for Vessels</a></li></ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">Cameras</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=icam">iCam 501 Ultra - Intrinsically Safe Digital Camera with Flash</a></li></ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">BNWAS</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=bnwas">BNWAS - Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System</a></li></ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">Lighting</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=peli">Peli 2690 - Intrinsically Safe LED Head Lamp</a></li></ul><li class="dropdown_alignedRight"> <a href="">Communication</a> <ul style="margin-right:-400px; top:0px;-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px;border-top-right-radius: 5px;-moz-border-radius-topright: 5px;"><li><a href="customers.php?category=handy">Ex-Handy 06 - Intrinsically Safe Cell Phone</a></li></ul> </ul> <li class="dropdown_alignedLeft"> <a href="">Customers</a> <ul> <li><a href="customers.php?category=maritime">Maritime</a></li> <li><a href="customers.php?category=non">Non-Maritime</a></li> <li class="dropdown_lastItem"><a href="customers.php?category=organizations">Regulatory Organizations</a></li> </ul> <li><a href="order.php">Product Enquiry</a></li> <li><a href="contact.php">Contact Us</a></li> <li class="dropdown_alignedLeft"> <a href="">Company</a> <ul> <!-- <li><a href="">About Us</a></li> --> <li><a href="newsandpr.php?category=News">News</a></li> <li class="dropdown_lastItem"><a href="newsandpr.php?category=Press Release">Press Releases</a></li> </ul> </ol> And my CSS: #nav { float:right; margin:15px 0 0; } #nav li { float:left; } #nav li a { display:block; font-family:"PT Sans","Helvetica Neue",Arial,sans-serif; font-size:16px; text-decoration:none; color:#2B95C8; padding:10px 20px 20px; } .dropdown_alignedLeft,.dropdown_alignedRight { position:relative; } #nav .dropdown_alignedLeft>a,#nav .dropdown_alignedRight>a { background:url(../images/dropdown_arrow_blue.png) no-repeat top right; padding:10px 30px 20px 20px; } #nav .dropdown_alignedLeft:hover>a,#nav .dropdown_alignedRight:hover>a { -moz-border-radius-topleft:5px; -moz-border-radius-topright:5px; -moz-border-radius-bottomright:0; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft:0; -webkit-border-top-left-radius:5px; -webkit-border-top-right-radius:5px; -webkit-border-bottom-right-radius:0; -webkit-border-bottom-left-radius:0; border-top-left-radius:5px; border-top-right-radius:5px; border-bottom-right-radius:0; border-bottom-left-radius:0; color:#FFF; background:#2378A1 url(../images/dropdown_arrow_blue.png) no-repeat bottom right; } .dropdown_alignedLeft ul,.dropdown_alignedRight ul { display:none; } #nav .dropdown_alignedLeft:hover>ul,#nav .dropdown_alignedRight:hover>ul { display:block; z-index:100; position:absolute; top:50px; -moz-border-radius-topleft:0; -moz-border-radius-topright:0; -moz-border-radius-bottomright:5px; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft:5px; -webkit-border-top-left-radius:0; -webkit-border-top-right-radius:0; -webkit-border-bottom-right-radius:5px; -webkit-border-bottom-left-radius:5px; border-top-left-radius:0; border-top-right-radius:0; border-bottom-right-radius:5px; border-bottom-left-radius:5px; background:#2378A1; padding:0 0 6px; } #nav .dropdown_alignedRight:hover>ul { top:50px; right:0; text-align:right; } #nav li ul li { float:none; border-bottom:1px dashed #2B95C8; margin:0 20px; } #nav li ul li.dropdown_innerTitle { border:none; font-family:"Helvetica Neue",Arial,sans-serif; font-size:15px; white-space:nowrap; color:#C8DDE7; margin:10px 20px 0; padding:10px 0; } #nav li ul li.dropdown_lastItem { border:none; } #nav li ul li a { font-family:"Helvetica Neue",Arial,sans-serif; font-size:13px; color:#FFF; white-space:nowrap; padding:10px 0 9px; } #nav>li:hover>a,#nav li .current_page { color:#2378A1; background:url(../images/current_page_arrow_blue.png) no-repeat center bottom; } #nav li ul li a:hover { color: #C8DDE7; } For a live version of the menu, please go here: JSFiddle - Live Menu

  • Keeping up with Technology

    - by kennedysteve
    If you're like me, you have a hard time keeping up with all the technologies out there. The reality is there's too many new technologies (languages, methodologies,  tools, etc). One of the ways I try to keep up with everything is by using good ol' RSS feeds in conjunction with Google Reader. Google Reader is both an online aggregator of RSS feeds, and it also has a good companion app on Google Android. The nicest part of Google Reader for me is the "All Listings" view which gives me a reverse chronological view of ALL articles (mixed together) regardless of the actual RSS feed.  This way, I get to see the newest articles first. I can then choose to hide the articles I've viewed, etc. Here is a list of my RSS feeds. Admittedly, some of these are all over the spectrum. But you might find one or two interesting. .NET Rocks!   • It&rsquo;s ok to throw System.Exception&hellip;

    - by Chris Skardon
    No. No it’s not. It’s not just me saying that, it’s the Microsoft guidelines: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229007.aspx  Do not throw System.Exception or System.SystemException. Also – as important: Do not catch System.Exception or System.SystemException in framework code, unless you intend to re-throw.. Throwing: Always, always try to pick the most specific exception type you can, if the parameter you have received in your method is null, throw an ArgumentNullException, value received greater than expected? ArgumentOutOfRangeException. For example: public void ArgChecker(int theInt, string theString) { if (theInt < 0) throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("theInt", theInt, "theInt needs to be greater than zero."); if (theString == null) throw new ArgumentNullException("theString"); if (theString.Length == 0) throw new ArgumentException("theString needs to have content.", "theString"); } Why do we want to do this? It’s a lot of extra code when compared with a simple: public void ArgChecker(int theInt, string theString) { if (theInt < 0 || string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(theString)) throw new Exception("The parameters were invalid."); } It all comes down to a couple of things; the catching of the exceptions, and the information you are passing back to the calling code. Catching: Ok, so let’s go with introduction level Exception handling, taught by many-a-university: You do all your work in a try clause, and catch anything wrong in the catch clause. So this tends to give us code like this: try { /* All the shizzle */ } catch { /* Deal with errors */ } But of course, we can improve on that by catching the exception so we can report on it: try { } catch(Exception ex) { /* Log that 'ex' occurred? */ } Now we’re at the point where people tend to go: Brilliant, I’ve got exception handling nailed, what next??? and code gets littered with the catch(Exception ex) nastiness. Why is it nasty? Let’s imagine for a moment our code is throwing an ArgumentNullException which we’re catching in the catch block and logging. Ok, the log entry has been made, so we can debug the code right? We’ve got all the info… What about an OutOfMemoryException – what can we do with that? That’s right, not a lot, chances are you can’t even log it (you are out of memory after all), but you’ve caught it – and as such - have hidden it. So, as part of this, there are two things you can do one, is the rethrow method: try { /* code */ } catch (Exception ex) { //Log throw; } Note, it’s not catch (Exception ex) { throw ex; } as that will wipe all your important stack trace information. This does get your exception to continue, and is the only reason you would catch Exception (anywhere other than a global catch-all) in your code. The other preferred method is to catch the exceptions you can deal with. It may not matter that the string I’m passing in is null, and I can cope with it like this: try{ DoSomething(myString); } catch(ArgumentNullException){} And that’s fine, it means that any exceptions I can’t deal with (OutOfMemory for example) will be propagated out to other code that can deal with it. Of course, this is horribly messy, no one wants try / catch blocks everywhere and that’s why Microsoft added the ‘Try’ methods to the framework, and it’s a strategy we should continue. If I try: int i = (int) "one"; I will get an InvalidCastException which means I need the try / catch block, but I could mitigate this using the ‘TryParse’ method: int i; if(!Int32.TryParse("one", out i)) return; Similarly, in the ‘DoSomething’ example, it might be beneficial to have a ‘TryDoSomething’ that returns a boolean value indicating the success of continuing. Obviously this isn’t practical in every case, so use the ol’ common sense approach. Onwards Yer thanks Chris, I’m looking forward to writing tonnes of new code. Fear not, that is where helpers come into it… (but that’s the next post)

  • Solving Euler Project Problem Number 1 with Microsoft Axum

    - by Jeff Ferguson
    Note: The code below applies to version 0.3 of Microsoft Axum. If you are not using this version of Axum, then your code may differ from that shown here. I have just solved Problem 1 of Project Euler using Microsoft Axum. The problem statement is as follows: If we list all the natural numbers below 10 that are multiples of 3 or 5, we get 3, 5, 6 and 9. The sum of these multiples is 23. Find the sum of all the multiples of 3 or 5 below 1000. My Axum-based solution is as follows: namespace EulerProjectProblem1{ // http://projecteuler.net/index.php?section=problems&id=1 // // If we list all the natural numbers below 10 that are multiples of 3 or 5, we get 3, 5, 6 and 9. // The sum of these multiples is 23. // Find the sum of all the multiples of 3 or 5 below 1000. channel SumOfMultiples { input int Multiple1; input int Multiple2; input int UpperBound; output int Sum; } agent SumOfMultiplesAgent : channel SumOfMultiples { public SumOfMultiplesAgent() { int Multiple1 = receive(PrimaryChannel::Multiple1); int Multiple2 = receive(PrimaryChannel::Multiple2); int UpperBound = receive(PrimaryChannel::UpperBound); int Sum = 0; for(int Index = 1; Index < UpperBound; Index++) { if((Index % Multiple1 == 0) || (Index % Multiple2 == 0)) Sum += Index; } PrimaryChannel::Sum <-- Sum; } } agent MainAgent : channel Microsoft.Axum.Application { public MainAgent() { var SumOfMultiples = SumOfMultiplesAgent.CreateInNewDomain(); SumOfMultiples::Multiple1 <-- 3; SumOfMultiples::Multiple2 <-- 5; SumOfMultiples::UpperBound <-- 1000; var Sum = receive(SumOfMultiples::Sum); System.Console.WriteLine(Sum); System.Console.ReadLine(); PrimaryChannel::ExitCode <-- 0; } }} Let’s take a look at the various parts of the code. I begin by setting up a channel called SumOfMultiples that accepts three inputs and one output. The first two of the three inputs will represent the two possible multiples, which are three and five in this case. The third input will represent the upper bound of the problem scope, which is 1000 in this case. The lone output of the channel represents the sum of all of the matching multiples: channel SumOfMultiples{ input int Multiple1; input int Multiple2; input int UpperBound; output int Sum;} I then set up an agent that uses the channel. The agent, called SumOfMultiplesAgent, received the three inputs from the channel sent to the agent, stores the results in local variables, and performs the for loop that iterates from 1 to the received upper bound. The agent keeps track of the sum in a local variable and stores the sum in the output portion of the channel: agent SumOfMultiplesAgent : channel SumOfMultiples{ public SumOfMultiplesAgent() { int Multiple1 = receive(PrimaryChannel::Multiple1); int Multiple2 = receive(PrimaryChannel::Multiple2); int UpperBound = receive(PrimaryChannel::UpperBound); int Sum = 0; for(int Index = 1; Index < UpperBound; Index++) { if((Index % Multiple1 == 0) || (Index % Multiple2 == 0)) Sum += Index; } PrimaryChannel::Sum <-- Sum; }} The application’s main agent, therefore, simply creates a new SumOfMultiplesAgent in a new domain, prepares the channel with the inputs that we need, and then receives the Sum from the output portion of the channel: agent MainAgent : channel Microsoft.Axum.Application{ public MainAgent() { var SumOfMultiples = SumOfMultiplesAgent.CreateInNewDomain(); SumOfMultiples::Multiple1 <-- 3; SumOfMultiples::Multiple2 <-- 5; SumOfMultiples::UpperBound <-- 1000; var Sum = receive(SumOfMultiples::Sum); System.Console.WriteLine(Sum); System.Console.ReadLine(); PrimaryChannel::ExitCode <-- 0; }} The result of the calculation (which, by the way, is 233,168) is sent to the console using good ol’ Console.WriteLine().

  • CSV Anyone?

    - by Tim Dexter
    CSV, a dead format? With today's abilities to generate Excel output (Im working on some posts for the shiny new Excel templates) and the sophistication of the eText outputs, do you really need CSV? I guess so seeing as it was added after the base product was released as an enhancement. But I'd be interested in hearing use cases? I used to think the same of text output. But now Im working in the public sector where older technologies abound I can see a use for text output. Its also used as a machine readable format, etc. BIP still does not support a text format from its RTF templates but its very doable using XSL templates. Back to CSV, I noticed an enhancement in the big list of new stuff in the 10.1.3.4.1 rollup. You can now generate CSV from structured data ie a data template or a SQL XML query. This piqued my interest so I ran off a data template to CSV. Its interesting, in a geeky kinda way, I guess Im that way inclined.Here's my data structure:<EMPLOYEES> <LIST_G_DEPT> <G_DEPT>  <DEPARTMENT_ID>10</DEPARTMENT_ID>  <DEPARTMENT_NAME>Administration</DEPARTMENT_NAME>  <LIST_G_EMP>   <G_EMP>     <EMPLOYEE_ID>200</EMPLOYEE_ID>     <EMP_NAME>Jennifer Whalen</EMP_NAME>     <EMAIL>JWHALEN</EMAIL>     <PHONE_NUMBER>515.123.4444</PHONE_NUMBER>     <HIRE_DATE>1987-09-17T00:00:00.000-06:00</HIRE_DATE>     <SALARY>4400</SALARY>    </G_EMP>   </LIST_G_EMP>  <TOTAL_EMPS>1</TOTAL_EMPS>  <TOTAL_SALARY>4400</TOTAL_SALARY>  <AVG_SALARY>4400</AVG_SALARY>  <MAX_SALARY>4400</MAX_SALARY>  <MIN_SALARY>4400</MIN_SALARY> </G_DEPT>Poor ol Jennifer, she needs some help in the Admin department :0)Pushing this to CSV and BP completely flattens the data out so you get a completely denormalized data output in the CSV.TOTAL_SALARY,DEPARTMENT_ID,DEPARTMENT_NAME,MIN_SALARY,AVG_SALARY,MAX_SALARY,EMPLOYEE_ID,SALARY,PHONE_NUMBER,HIRE_DATE,EMP_NAME,EMAIL,TOTAL_EMPS4400,10,Administration,4400,4400,4400,200,4400,515.123.4444,1987-09-17T00:00:00.000-06:00,"Jennifer Whalen",JWHALEN,119000,20,Marketing,6000,9500,13000,201,13000,515.123.5555,1996-02-17T00:00:00.000-07:00,"Michael Hartstein",MHARTSTE,219000,20,Marketing,6000,9500,13000,202,6000,603.123.6666,1997-08-17T00:00:00.000-06:00,"Pat Fay",PFAY,2Useful? Yesterday I caught myself being a little too clever for my own good with some ASP.NET code.  It seems that I have forgotten some of my good old classic HTML and JavaScript skills, and become too dependent on the .NET Framework and WebControls to do the work for me.  Here’s the scenario… In order to improve the User Interface and better communicate to the user when something is happening that they need to wait for, we have started to modify some of our larger (slower) pages to display messages like Processing… or Reloading… while they are cycling through a postback.  (Yes, I understand this could be improved by using AJAX / Callbacks and so on, but even then, you need to let your user know that they need to wait for that section to be re-rendered, so for the moment these pages will continue to use good ol’ Postbacks.)  It’s a very simple trick, really.  All I want to do is when some control triggers a postback, first run a little client-side JavaScript to hide the main contents of the page (such as a GridView) and display the appropriate message.  This lets the user know, “Hey, we’re doing something, don’t click another link or scroll and try to take action right now.” The first places I hooked this up were easy.  Most common cause of a postback:  Buttons.  And when you’re writing the markup or declarative code for an ASP:Button control, there is the handy OnClientClick property which is designed for just this purpose…to run client-side JavaScript before the postback occurs.  This is distinguished from the OnClick property which tells the control what Server-side code to run.  Great!  Done!  Easy! But then there are other controls like DropDownLists and CheckBoxes that we use on our pages with the AutoPostback=True setting which cause postbacks.  And these don’t have OnClientClick or OnClientSelectedIndexChanged events.  So I started getting creative, using an ASP:CustomValidator control in conjunction with setting the CausesValidation and ValidationGroup settings on these controls, which basically caused the action on the control to fire the Custom Validator, which was defined with a Client Side validation function which then did the hide content/show message code (and return a meaningless IsValid setting).  This also caused me to define a different ValidationGroup setting for my real data entry validator controls so that I could control them separately and only have them fire when I really wanted validation, and not just my show/hide trick. For a little while I was pretty proud of myself for coming up with this clever approach to get around what I considered to be a serious oversight on the DropDownList and CheckBox controls declarative syntax.  Then, in the midst of my smugness, just as I was about to commit my changes to the source code repository, it dawned on me that there is a much simpler and much more appropriate way to accomplish this.  All that I really needed to do was to put in my server-side code (I used the Page_Init section) a call to MyControl.Attributes.Add(“onClick”, “myJavaScriptFunctionName()”) for the checkboxes, and for the DropDownLists (which become select tags) use “onChange” instead of “onClick”.  This is exactly the type of thing that the Attributes collection is there for…so you can add attributes to be rendered with the control that you would have otherwise stuck right into the HTML markup if you had been doing this by hand in the first place. Ugh!  A few hours wasted on clever tricks that I ended up completely removing, but I did learn a lot more about custom validators and validation groups in the process.  And got a good reminder that all that stuff (HTML, JavaScript, and CSS) I learned back when I wrote classic ASP pages is still valuable today.  Oh, and one more thing…don’t get lulled into too much reliance on the the whiz-bang tool to do it for you.  After all, WebControls are just another layer of abstraction, and sometimes you need to dig down through the layers and get a little closer to the native language.

  • DBA Best Practices - A Blog Series: Episode 2 - Password Lists

    - by Argenis
      Digital World, Digital Locks One of the biggest digital assets that any company has is its secrets. These include passwords, key rings, certificates, and any other digital asset used to protect another asset from tampering or unauthorized access. As a DBA, you are very likely to manage some of these assets for your company - and your employer trusts you with keeping them safe. Probably one of the most important of these assets are passwords. As you well know, the can be used anywhere: for service accounts, credentials, proxies, linked servers, DTS/SSIS packages, symmetrical keys, private keys, etc., etc. Have you given some thought to what you're doing to keep these passwords safe? Are you backing them up somewhere? Who else besides you can access them? Good-Ol’ Post-It Notes Under Your Keyboard If you have a password-protected Excel sheet for your passwords, I have bad news for you: Excel's level of encryption is good for your grandma's budget spreadsheet, not for a list of enterprise passwords. I will try to summarize the main point of this best practice in one sentence: You should keep your passwords on an encrypted, access and version-controlled, backed-up, well-known shared location that every DBA on your team is aware of, and maintain copies of this password "database" on your DBA's workstations. Now I have to break down that statement to you: - Encrypted: what’s the point of saving your passwords on a file that any Windows admin with enough privileges can read? - Access controlled: This one is pretty much self-explanatory. - Version controlled: Passwords change (and I’m really hoping you do change them) and version control would allow you to track what a previous password was if the utility you’ve chosen doesn’t handle that for you. - Backed-up: You want a safe copy of the password list to be kept offline, preferably in long term storage, with relative ease of restoring. - Well-known shared location: This is critical for teams: what good is a password list if only one person in the team knows where it is? I have seen multiple examples of this that work well. They all start with an encrypted database. Certainly you could leverage SQL Server's native encryption solutions like cell encryption for this. I have found such implementations to be impractical, for the most part. Enter The World Of Utilities There are a myriad of open source/free software solutions to help you here. One of my favorites is KeePass, which creates encrypted files that can be saved to a network share, Sharepoint, etc. KeePass has UIs for most operating systems, including Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Other solutions I've used before worth mentioning include PasswordSafe and 1Password, with the latter one being a paid solution – but wildly popular in mobile devices. There are, of course, even more "enterprise-level" solutions available from 3rd party vendors. The truth is that most of the customers that I work with don't need that level of protection of their digital assets, and something like a KeePass database on Sharepoint suits them very well. What are you doing to safeguard your passwords? Leave a comment below, and join the discussion! Cheers, -Argenis

  • Crystal Reports Reportviewer - Set Datasource Dynamically Not Working :argh:

    - by Albert
    I'm running CR XI, and accessing .RPT files through a ReportViewer in my ASP.NET pages. I've already got the following code, which is supposed to set the Report Datasource dynamically. rptSP = New ReportDocument Dim rptPath As String = Request.QueryString("report") rptSP.Load(rptPath.ToString, 0) Dim SConn As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionStringBuilder(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("MyConnectionString").ConnectionString) rptSP.DataSourceConnections(SConn.DataSource, SConn.InitialCatalog).SetConnection(SConn.DataSource, SConn.InitialCatalog, SConn.UserID, SConn.Password) Dim myConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo myConnectionInfo.ServerName = SConn.DataSource myConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = SConn.InitialCatalog myConnectionInfo.UserID = SConn.UserID myConnectionInfo.Password = SConn.Password 'Two new methods to loop through all objects and tables contained in the requested report and set 'login credentials for each object and table. SetDBLogonForReport(myConnectionInfo, rptSP) SetDBLogonForSubreports(myConnectionInfo, rptSP) Me.CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = rptSP But when I go into each .RPT file, and open up the Database Expert section, there is obviously still servernames hardcoded in there, and the code listed above doesn't seem to be able to change the servernames that are hardcoded there. I say this because I have training and production environments. When the .RPT file is hardcoded with my production server, and I open it on my training server with the code above (and the web.config has the training server in the connection string), I get the ol: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. And then if I go into the .RPT file, and change over the datasource to the training server, and try to open it again, it works fine. Why doesn't the code above overwrite the .RPT files datasource? How can I avoid having to open up each .RPT and change the datasource when migrating reports from server to server? Is there a setting in the .RPT file I'm missing or something?

  • Jquery Flexslider - can't see navigational images (manualControl)

    - by Kim Thomas
    I've spent a lot of time looking at the post on 3/13/12 re: manual controls, but isn't getting me all the way there...probably because I don't know jquery. Sorry, newbie on board. I'm trying to get the right/left arrows to show, as well as the 1, 2, 3...at the bottom. They are there, I see the lists on Firebug, just don't know how to add them to the "hook" (?) so they appear. Here is the code I have in header: <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="jquery.flexslider.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> $(window).load(function() { $('.flexslider').flexslider({ animation: "slide", slideshow: false, controlNav: true, manualControls: ".flex-control-nav li a", controlsContainer: ".flex-container" }); }); </script> Here is my html: <div class="flex-container"> <div class="flexslider"> <ul class="slides"> <li><img src="images/tah_home.jpg" alt="taylor art house home page" width="600" height="320"/> <p class="flex-caption">Taylor Art House Home Page</p></li> <li><img src="images/tah_blog.jpg" alt="taylor art house blog page" width="600" height="320" /> <p class="flex-caption">We created a blog that fits seemlessly into Taylor Art House's look</p></li> <li><img src="images/tah_artwork_page.jpg" alt="taylor art house art page" width="600" height="320" /> <p class="flex-caption">One of Taylor Art House's gallery pages, using a Wordpress plugin</p></li> <li><img src="images/tah_arch_portfolio.jpg" alt="jon taylor architecture portfolio page" width="600" height="320" /> <p class="flex-caption">We created links to toggle from TAH to Jon Taylor Architecture</p></li> </ul> </div><!--end flexsider--> </div><!--end flex-container--> Here is the Flexslider CSS: /* * jQuery FlexSlider v1.8 * http://www.woothemes.com/flexslider/ * * Copyright 2012 WooThemes * Free to use under the MIT license. * http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php */ /* Browser Resets */ .flex-container a:active, .flexslider a:active, .flex-container a:focus, .flexslider a:focus {outline: none;} .slides, .flex-control-nav, .flex-direction-nav {margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style: none;} /* FlexSlider Necessary Styles *********************************/ .flexslider { width: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; } .flexslider .slides > li { display: none; -webkit-backface-visibility: hidden; } /* Hide the slides before the JS is loaded.   • How to set "Run this program as an administrator" programatically.

    - by Patrick
    I'm having a problem with good ol' bdeadmin.exe in Vista. First, let's get the predictable responses out of the way: "You should not require your application to be elevated." This one does. C'est la vie. "You need to embed a manifest file." It is already compiled, it is many years old, the company that created it has no intention of doing it again, and it is installed from a Merge Module (MSM file). "BDE is obsolete, you should be using dbExpress" One and a half million lines of code. 'Nuff said. "Drop a manifest file next to the EXE." Tried that, did nothing. As a test, that same manifest file was able to make several other EXE files require elevation, just not the one I wanted. Something in there is preventing the external manifest from being read. "Create a shortcut and set SLDF_RUNAS_USER." Can't do that, it's a Control Panel applet. The only thing that worked was setting "Run this program as an administrator" under the Compatibility tab of its Properties window. I shouldn't have to tell users to do this. Bad for business. I need to have the installer do this. The MSM file uses a static path. Any ideas?

  • Google Contacts API - No Redirection

    - by mecablaze
    Hello there, I am currently working on Contact Importer web app (in PHP) so I will be able to grab email address from a user's account on Gmail, Yahoo, etc and use them for my own evil purposes. Just kidding, my web app is very friendly. I thought I would start with Google. I found they have a fantastic little API called Google Contacts API which lets a programmer, like myself, to access a user's contacts. After a couple of hours of struggling and throwing shitty code together, I ran into a few road-blocks. My main question is this: Is there any way that I can have a user provide their username and password for Gmail on my website and have my code retrieve the contacts without that nasty redirection to a Google login page? It's kind of ruins the whole flow of my web app. I've looked into AuthSub, and gotten that to work, but of course the catch is that you have to redirect the user to obtain the access token. It looks like OAuth will have this same catch. The one ray of hope I have is the ClientLogin method of authentication. Again, there is a catch, sometimes Google throws you a CAPTCHA instead of the auth token. Again, the user flow is ruined. I've noticed that our good ol' friends over at Twitter have it working just fine. Does anyone know how they do it? Thanks!

  • 3D Web Sites and Applications

    - by Scott Evernden
    I have for the last several years been struggling to understand why the Internet has so few actually useful 3D web applications. It's 2009 and still everything looks like pages from a Sears catalog. You can turn on your TV and find flying logos every night. After that you can get nostalgic and flip on ol' N-64 and play some Zelda or Mario Kart. On the PC, Sims 2 is approaching 6 years old already.. And then there's WoW. Current generation of users - the Facebook crowd, let's say - has ~no~ problem dealing with multi-dimensional environments.. And yet, nothing really immersive seems to happen on the web. I've been hearing about VRML and X3D for at least 10 years and ... pffft .. - nothing earth shaking going on there. Java 3D ? .. cool ! .. but ...... Still .... waiting and waiting. Do you think it will take a killer-web app before people become accustomed-to or will seek to use what could more more engaging web experiences? I am not talking about Second Life and other dedicated downloaded applications. I probably am more focused on apps like Lively or SceneCaster or Hangout or a half dozen others that are delivered 'painlessly' directly into web pages. My own particular interest is in the domain of virtual stores and immersive shopping. Its been a challenge trying to understand why an average user would not want to browse and wander a changing mall-space - like in the real world -- entertained by unexpected discovery. Is the 3D web always going to be 5 years in the future ?

  • JAVASCRIPT changing on click

    - by Webby
    Hello, Id like some help changing this javascript onclick event to just load the data on page the page load... Preferably not using the body on load tag... So obviously I'd pre set the var for term inside the script term rather than the excisting on click event.. Hope that made sense <p><a id="keywordlink" href="?term=wombats">Get keywords for wombats</a></p> <script type="text/javascript" src="keywords.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var x = document.getElementById('keywordlink'); if(x){ x.onclick = function(){ var term = this.href.split('=')[1]; this.innerHTML += ' (loading...)'; KEYWORDS.get(term,seed); return false; } } function seed(o){ var div = document.createElement('div'); var head = document.createElement('h2'); head.innerHTML = 'Keywords for '+o.term; div.appendChild(head); var p = document.createElement('p'); p.innerHTML = o.toplist; div.appendChild(p); var head = document.createElement('h3'); head.innerHTML = 'Details:'; div.appendChild(head); var list = document.createElement('ol'); for(var i=0,j=o.keywords.length;i<j;i++){ var li = document.createElement('li'); li.innerHTML = o.keywords[i].term + '('+o.keywords[i].amount+')'; list.appendChild(li); } div.appendChild(list); x.parentNode.replaceChild(div,x); } </script>

  • Django-South introspection rule doesn't work.

    - by Ory Band
    I'm using Django 1.2.3 and South 0.7.3. I am trying to convert my app (named core) to use Django-South. I have a custom model/field that I'm using, named ImageWithThumbsField. It's basically just the ol' django.db.models.ImageField with some attributes such as height, weight, etc. While trying to ./manage.py convert_to_auth core I receieve South's freezing errors. I have no idea why, I'm Probably missing something... I am using a simple custom Model: from django.db.models import ImageField class ImageWithThumbsField(ImageField): def __init__(self, verbose_name=None, name=None, width_field=None, height_field=None, sizes=None, **kwargs): self.verbose_name=verbose_name self.name=name self.width_field=width_field self.height_field=height_field self.sizes = sizes super(ImageField, self).__init__(**kwargs) And this is my introspection rule, which I add to the top of my models.py: from south.modelsinspector import add_introspection_rules from lib.thumbs import ImageWithThumbsField add_introspection_rules( [ ( (ImageWithThumbsField, ), [], { "verbose_name": ["verbose_name", {"default": None}], "name": ["name", {"default": None}], "width_field": ["width_field", {"default": None}], "height_field": ["height_field", {"default": None}], "sizes": ["sizes", {"default": None}], }, ), ], ["^core/.fields/.ImageWithThumbsField",]) This is the errors I receieve: ! Cannot freeze field 'core.additionalmaterialphoto.photo' ! (this field has class lib.thumbs.ImageWithThumbsField) ! Cannot freeze field 'core.material.photo' ! (this field has class lib.thumbs.ImageWithThumbsField) ! Cannot freeze field 'core.material.formulaimage' ! (this field has class lib.thumbs.ImageWithThumbsField) ! South cannot introspect some fields; this is probably because they are custom ! fields. If they worked in 0.6 or below, this is because we have removed the ! models parser (it often broke things). ! To fix this, read http://south.aeracode.org/wiki/MyFieldsDontWork Does anybody know why? What am I doing wrong?
