• Write DAX queries in Report Builder #ssrs #dax #ssas #tabular

  If you use Report Builder with Reporting Services, you can use DAX queries even if the editor for Analysis Services provider does not support DAX syntax. In fact, the DMX editor that you can use in Visual Studio editor of Reporting Services (see a previous post on that), is not available in Report Builder. However, as Sagar Salvi commented in this Microsoft Connect entry, you can use the DAX query text in the query of a Dataset by using the OLE DB provider instead of the Analysis Services one. I think it’s a good idea to show the steps required. First, create a DataSet using the OLE DB connection type, and provide the connection string the provider (Provider), the server name (Data Source) and the database name (Initial Catalog), such as: Provider=MSOLAP;Data Source=SERVERNAME\\TABULAR;Initial Catalog=AdventureWorks Tabular Model SQL 2012 Then, create a Dataset using the data source previously defined, select the Text query type, and write the DAX code in the Query pane: You can also use the Query Designer window, that doesn’t provide any particular help in writing the DAX query, but at least can show a preview of the result of the query execution. • How to use the AWUS036H on MacBook Pro with Lion and Backtrack in VM?

  I have the AWUS036H USB WiFi adapter and have recently upgraded the OSX to Lion. The thing is, there are no drivers for Lion for the AWUS036H, and I would have to boot into 32bit mode every time I want to launch the adapter as per instructions here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9_HAGi1ce0 I also want to install BackTrack as I deal in networks a lot for my company. While this would be a simple matter on any other laptop, the company issued Macbook does not allow booting into any OS other than MacOSX or Windows with Bootcamp. Now, since dual booting into BT is not an option, I would like Backtrack to run in VM inside my MacOSX Lion - and this it does. It works like a charm inside VirtualBox. But since there are no 64bit drivers for the wifi adapter, Lion doesn't recognize it and cannot install it. This, in turn, means that Backtrack cannot see it even though AWUS036H usually works flawlessly with BT. How can I make my VM-based BT see the wifi adapter even if the parent OS doesn't see it, if at all? Is there a way, or am I better off buying a new WiFi adapter that supports OSX 10.7 such as the AWUS036NHR?

  I've been reading a lot online about custom URL handlers / custom protocol handlers such as: Launching External Applications using Custom Protocols under OSX OS X URL handler to open links to local files I get that you can tell the system that a particular program is able to handle a certain scheme / protocol with the Info.plist file: <key>CFBundleURLTypes</key> <array> <dict> <key>CFBundleURLName</key> <string>Local File</string> <key>CFBundleURLSchemes</key> <array> <string>local</string> </array> </dict> </array> <key>NSUIElement</key> <true/> But if there are multiple applications that are capable of opening the same URL handler, such as mailto: how do you specify which one you want the system to use? There were some references to utilities like the More Internet preference pane which no longer seems to be available from the author's site. I did find it online by Googling but it seems a bit shaky - like it was written for an older OSX - perhaps Tiger. I haven't been able to find information on how to set the URL handler for protocols and custom protocols. I'm assuming there is a plist file somewhere that I can edit - or maybe there is a newer, better utility that works well with Mountain Lion?

  I'm using an Apple bluetooth keybord to control my Linux synergy server. SSH tunneling, Mouse, Keyboard, and Copy&Paste all work. Linux sees all the media/app keys that are on top of the F# keys correctly. However if I press any of those keys while controlling my OSX client, nothing happens on the client. • From iPhone OS to cocoa on OSX...

  Hi - this is quite a basic OSX/cocoa question. I come from an iPhone OS development background. I'm now trying to write apps for OSX, but I don't understand where cocoa on OSX decides where the program gets control. I can see the main function, but where does program control go from there? Say for example I want to programatically create a window with an NSView in it once the app has finished launching - how would I do that? There is no app delegate created that I can see, in iPhone OS I would wait for the - (void) applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application method to be called. I really don't want to use the Interface Builder or NIB files to setup my window/view. How would I go about this? Any help would be much appreciated - Cheers, David

I managed to successfully connect using Cisco VPN Client, now I'm trying to switch to OSX 10.6 native client, because of licensing issues.   I am trying to install Windows 8 using Bootcamp on OSX Mountain Lion. I need a bootable CD. Does the bootable CD have to be the size of the ISO image or can it be smaller (since it only contains the installer)?   I'm running fully updated snow leapord on a new model imac. I am unable to boot into macosx. I do have build 7600 of windows 7 that the computer will automatically boot to. I do not have the bootcamp manager on windows 7. The computer is not recognizing any held down keys when I try to either boot from cd or force macosx boot or anything. • Stick floating eclipse windows on second screen with Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks

  When working with eclipse, I'm used to have a floating window with the console and other views on my secondary monitor. Since the update to OSX 10.9 (Mavericks), I still can drag the floating window to the secondary screen, but it keeps popping back to the main monitor when e.g. changing the perspective - which is really annoying. This did not happen with Mac OS 10.8. Is there a way that the floating windows of eclipse stay on the secondary monitor?

  I am trying to run a script through crontab in osx 10.8.5 that will run at 4:30. 30 16 * * 1-5 /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/bin/python /Users/lego90511/PycharmProjects/Stock\ Scanner/stock_scanner.py But I realized today that, my computer is not always on at 4:30. So I added the fix * 16 * * 1-5. But then I realized it may not be at all between 4-5. How can I set crontab to run anytime after 4pm(16 cron time)?

  I am currently creating a service which connects to a DAL and that can run a few stored procedures, one of the issues I am facing is that for certain times of the month, we can't update the database, (at the moment this is done manually. This is done via the user adding a note to their calendar) But I would like to automate this process, one of the possible solutions I can think of using is a durable service. When the date is lets say the 1st of the month, the Update/Insert/Delete instances can get saved to a database, and then ran after that date in a batch. Is this the intended use of durable services ? Is there a better route I could possibly take ?

  I was in the unenviable position of needing to connect to Magento, a PHP ecommerce platform, web services using Java.  It was kind of difficult to get the classes generated from the WSDL so I figured I would throw the results up on my github account for any other poor sap in a similar position. First, pull down the project using git: git clone git://github.com/webdevwilson/magento-java.git and build it with maven: mvn install Here is a quick example of how to pull an order using the generated classes: MagentoServiceLocator serviceLocator = new MagentoServiceLocator(); String url = "http://domain.com/index.php/api/v2_soap"; Mage_Api_Model_Server_V2_HandlerPortType port = serviceLocator.getMage_Api_Model_Server_V2_HandlerPort(url); String sessionId = port.login("username", "key"); SalesOrderEntity salesOrder = port.salesOrderInfo(sessionId, orderId); I also have some wrapper code in there that makes it a little easier to call the API. • WCF data services - Limiting related objects returned based on critera

  I have an object graph consisting of a base employee object, and a set of related message objects. I am able to return the employee objects based on search criteria on the employee properties (eg team) etc. However, if I expand on the messages, I get the full collection of messages back. I would like to be able to either take the top n messages (i.e. restrict to 10 most recent) or ideally use a date range on the message objects to limit how many are brought back. So far I have not been able to figure out a way of doing this: I get an error if I attempt to filter on properties on the message (&$filter=employee/message/StartDate gives an error "No property 'StartDate' exists in type 'System.Data.Objects.DataClasses.EntityCollection`1). Attempting to use Top on the message related object doesn't work either. I have also tried using a WebGet extension that takes a string list of employee IDs. That works until the list gets too long, and then fails due to the URL getting too long (it might be possible to setup a paging mechanism on this approach)... Unfortunately the UI control I am using requires the data to be in a fairly specific hierarchical shape, so I can't easily come at this from starting on the message side and working backwards. Outside of making multiple calls does anyone know of a method to accomplish this with wcf data services? Thanks! M.

  Hi, Trying to load a shared lib out of the current '.' dir in a unit test on osx. What works on Linux and Netbsd there is a symlink _mymodule.so --> ../.libs/libmymodule.so but on osx, python's import mymodule won't find _mymodule.dylib --> ../.libs/libmymodule.dylib I've tried adding export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH to the script env, nogo. Any help appreciated. -Ed
