  • No HDMI output on 12.10, Intel HD graphics (Ironlake)

    I am unable to get any output to my external monitor on 12.10. The monitor is recognized and shows the native res (1920x1080, correct) but enabling has no effect. Graphics chipset is Intel Ironlake (Arrandale). I have tried: Full system update after installing Oibaf PPA updated drivers (https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/graphics-drivers) Enabling SNA Kubuntu 12.10 (in addition to Ubuntu 12.10) Both were fresh installs. Nothing works, any troubleshooting ideas? Everything is fine on 11.10. UPDATE 1: Also tried using Intel drivers from Xorg-Edgers PPA (https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa) Still no output on HDMI.

  • "find" command and piping its output through another program

    this is not an Ubuntu specific quesion, it applies to all unix/linux. how can I run a command like this: find . -maxdepth 1 -type d -print -exec svn info "{}" | grep URL \; the command above doesn't do what I want, I can't seem to pipe the output of the svn info to grep. This works, but the output contains much more than I need: find . -maxdepth 1 -type d -print -exec svn info "{}" \; Any ideas?

I guess it's a driver issue, but I need help to debug this problem and to solve it.   • XStream <-> Alternative binary formats (e.g. protocol buffers)

    We currently use XStream for encoding our web service inputs/outputs in XML. However we are considering switching to a binary format with code generator for multiple languages (protobuf, Thrift, Hessian, etc) to make supporting new clients easier and less reliant on hand-coding (also to better support our message formats which include binary data). However most of our objects on the server are POJOs with XStream handling the serialization via reflection and annotations, and most of these libraries assume they will be generating the POJOs themselves. I can think of a few ways to interface an alternative library: Write an XStream marshaler for the target format. Write custom code to marshal the POJOs to/from the classes generated by the alternative library. Subclass the generated classes to implement the POJO logic. May require some rewriting. (Also did I mention we want to use Terracotta?) Use another library that supports both reflection (like XStream) and code generation. However I'm not sure which serialization library would be best suited to the above techniques.

  • Best tools / formats for documenting XML API?

    We are developing XML over HTTP service and we need a way to document the XML interface. Our supported XMLs generally are subsets of some industry standard XML API, which unfortunately lacks any good documentation. It has XSDs though with some annotations, so we use this go generate the initial documentation and then remove the unsupported parts and refine the result. But this process is tedious and the results aren't at all great. Any suggestion about documentation formats and tools? I prefer to have HTML output and possibly more, e.g. PDF. Oh, and we are mixed Linux and Windows shop, so the tools should work well on both.

  • Kernel Error during upgrade or update commands

    I am getting these errors during sudo apt-get update and upgrade... I tried all possible options no success. I recently upgraded to 13.04 and had problems with Broadcom WiFi. Fixed tat issues using the clean script... but looks like it did not install the Kernel properly..     I'm not sure whether this is an issue with my use of cl-who (specifically with-html-output-to-string and with-html-output) or an issue with my understanding of Common Lisp (as this is my first project using Lisp). I created a function to create form fields: (defun form-field (type name label) (cl-who:with-html-output (*standard-output* nil) (:div :class "field" (:label :for name label) (:input :type type :name name)))) When using this function, ie: (form-field "text" "username" "Username") the parameter label seems to be ignored... the HTML output is: <div class="field"><label for="username"></label> <input type="text" name="username"/></div> instead of the expected output: <div class="field"><label for="username">Username</label> <input type="text" name="username"/></div> If I modify the function and add a print statement: (defun form-field (type name label) (cl-who:with-html-output (*standard-output* nil) (print label) (:div :class "field" (:label :for name label) (:input :type type :name name)))) The "Username" string is successfully output (but still ignored in the HTML)... any ideas what might cause this? Keep in mind, I'm calling this function within a cl-who:with-html-output-to-string for use with hunchentoot.

  • Is there a way to make PHP progressively output as the script executes?

    So I'm writing a disposable script for my own personal single use and I want to be able see how the process is going. Basically I'm processing a couple of thousand media releases and sending them to our new CMS. So I don't hammer the CMS, I'm making the script sleep for a couple of seconds after every 5 requests. I would like - as the script is executing - to be able to see my echos telling me the script is going to sleep or that the last transaction with the webservice was successful.     I've been trying to compare the output of a program to known correct output by using a bash script without piping the output of the program to a file and then using diff on the output file and a correct output file. I've tried setting the variables to the output and correct output and I believe it's been successful but I can't get the string comparison to work correctly. I may be wrong about the variable setting so it could be that.     I am using the h5py python package to read files in HDF5 format. (e.g. somefile.h5) I would like to write the contents of a dataset to a text file. For example, I would like to create a text file with the following contents: 1,20,31,75,142,324,78,12,3,90,8,21,1 I am able to access the dataset in python using this code: import h5py f = h5py.File('/Users/Me/Desktop/thefile.h5', 'r') group = f['/level1/level2/level3'] dset = group['dsetname'] My naive approach is too slow, because my dataset has over 20000 entries: # write all values to file for index in range(len(dset)): # do not add comma after last value if index == len(dset)-1: txtfile.write(repr(dset[index])) else: txtfile.write(repr(dset[index])+',') txtfile.close() return None Is there a faster way to write this to a file? Perhaps I could convert the dataset into a NumPy array or even a Python list, and then use some file-writing tool?     I have a program that generates and outputs a sequence of simple sample math homework tasks, like: 1 + 1 = ... 3 + 3 = ... 2 + 5 = ... 3 + 7 = ... 4 + 2 = ... a sequence can be quite long, and I'd like to save space when this sequence is printed by converting it as follows: 1 + 1 = ... 3 + 7 = ... 3 + 3 = ... 4 + 2 = ... 2 + 5 = ... that is, wrapping the lines into the two or more columns. I was expecting the column linux utility to do the job using the -c N option witn N=2, however, it still outputs the lines in one column whatever the N is. How would I do the column-ifying of the sequence of lines?

    I need to output the system audio from a desktop to both the HDMI output (sending to the display that functions as the room speakers) and via the analog stereo output (to feed the reference input on a microphone array for Skype). The only solution I've found so far for this is an HDMI Audio De-Embedder, but I'd really like to avoid buying another piece of hardware, so I'm hoping there's a way to do this inside software. So: Is there any way to make Windows 7 output all audio over both HDMI and Analog outs, simultaneously?

I am currently using Eyecon's Bootstrap Datepicker because it had the smallest files size that I could find (8k minified), and includes the date formats I need. I also tried to trigger date format changes in several other datepickers without any success.   • Sharing rails fragments between formats

    Hi I'm toying with mobile_fu and want to share some fragments between the different views. E.g. views/ item/ view.html.erb view.mobile.rb shared/ _common.erb In both view.html.erb and view.mobile.erb I want to share the same fragment '_common.erb' without having to specify the format (should you ever have to specify the format inside a fragment? It doesn't seem like The Rails Way?). Let's say for arguments's sake it's because it's in a helper or whatever -- the point is that I need to share fragments in a 'well-defined and Railsy way' across formats. Let's take this fairly innocuous snippet <% render :fragment => 'shared/common' %> I've tried 3 file name conventions: _common.html.erb only works for html /item/view/xx fails with 'shared/_common.erb not found') however _common.erb fails for html and works for mobile (maybe mobile_fu is doing something wacky?) -- same error as for .html.erb version above _common.rhtml does work for both I'm thinking that: that rhtml works for both is a legacy hack and I'm loathe to rename all the shared fragments .rhtml to get the behaviour I want.   • Cannot translate date formats from rails form to mysql db

    I have a simple search form in rails 3 that has two date fields. I'm having a problem getting these dates into my mysql db. I've tried using the american_date gem, specifying date formats in my initializers, in the config/locales/en.yml file, and directly on the date on the date fields themselves. Currently, I'm setting the rails-approved date format in the view - <%= f.text_field :depart_date, :value=> Date.today.strftime('%Y-%m-%d') %> The dateformat in my DB is also YYYY-mm-dd, so things should be going smoothly. The console tells me that the two date fields are both class = "Date" I think I've found the disconnect.   • What could cause a pixel shader to paint outside the lines of the vertex shader output?

    From what I understand, the pixels that a pixel shader operates on are specified implicitly by the SV_POSITION output (in DirectX) of the vertex shader. What then could cause a pixel shader to render in the middle of nowhere? I used the new Visual Studio 2012 graphics debugger to visualize my vertex and pixel shader output. This is the output from a DrawIndexed() call that draws a cube: The pink part is the rendered output of the pixel shader, which takes the cube on its left as its input. The vertex shader code: cbuffer Buf { float4x4 final; }; struct In { float4 pos:POSITION; float3 norm:NORMAL; float2 texuv:TEXCOORD; }; struct Out { float4 col:COLOR; float2 tex:TEXCOORD; float4 pos:SV_POSITION; }; Out main(In input) { Out output; output.pos = mul(input.pos, final); output.col = float4(1.0f, 0.5f, 0.5f, 1.0f); output.tex = input.texuv; return output; } And the pixel shader: struct In { float4 col:COLOR; float2 tex:TEXCOORD; float4 pos:SV_POSITION; }; float4 main(In input) : SV_TARGET { return input.col; } The raster stage is the only thing between the vertex shader and the pixel shader, so my suspicion is that it's some raster stage settings. But the raster stage shouldn't change the shape of the vertex shader output so drastically, should it?

  • Dell XPS 15 L502x and Ubuntu 11.04 - HDMI output

    Recently I've bought my dream's notebook, a Dell XPS 15 but since then this dream became a kind of endless nightmare. I'm almost getting crazy to make my graphic card driver work properly, but it seems to be just impossible. Yes, I have a 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 540m (Optimus) in it! It simply doesn't work. Every time I generate the xorg.conf Ubuntu hangs on while starting up, which forces me to remove this file to be able to start the notebook with the standard graphic settings. Another problem is that the Dell XPS 15 does NOT have a VGA output, but a HDMI. So, to be able to use a second monitor I have to configure it by the NVIDIA X Server Settings, which just works if the driver is properly initialized with the xorg.conf. I've also tried to make it work with the Bumblebee, but unfortunately it didn't help me much with the HDMI output. Do you guys have any idea to solve this deadlock? Is there any way for me to use my second monitor?

    I upgraded to 14.04 and now gstreamer is not working. What I am trying to accomplish is to hear the audio input on my computer coming from a ham radio. This is the command that I am using: gst-launch pulserc ! pulseink. This is the error message that I am receiving: ERROR: pipeline could not be constructed: no element "pulserc". I am wondering if I should purge gstreamer, or if there is another command that I should put it. Thank you again everyone for all of your help.
