  • Mysql gem troubles with Snow Leopard upgrade

    - by so1o
I have done everything that is on the web (i think) i have the new 64 bit xcode that came with snow leopard installed completely removed mysql, removed gems compeltely, removed rails installed mysql 64 bit, installed gems, installed mysql gem with the env ARCHFLAGS set I still get this nasty NameError: uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes from /Users/Navara/Sites/tuosystems/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:440:in `load_missing_constant' from /Users/Navara/Sites/tuosystems/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:80:in `rake_original_const_missing' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.7/lib/rake.rb:2503:in `const_missing' Im not sure how to debug this.. any pointers will be greatly appreciated!

  • Ruby on rails link_to syntax

    - by mizipzor
After following a tutorial Ive found. Im now redoing it again, without the scaffolding part, to learn it better. However, editing my \app\views\home\index.html.erb to contain: <h1>Rails test project</h1> <%= link_to "my blog", posts_path> I get an error: undefined local variable or method `posts_path' for #<ActionView::Base:0x4e1d954> Before I did this, I ran rake db:create, defined a migration class and ran rake db:migrate, everything without a problem. So the database should contain a posts table. But that link_to command cant seem to find posts_path. That variable (or is it even a function?) is probably defined through the scaffold routine. My question now is; how do I do that manually myself, define posts_path?

  • Cap deploy doesn't work all the sudden; something to do with FactoryGirl and assets

    - by Jason Swett
I've been cap deploying my app all throughout it development, and this last time I tried to deploy it, it didn't work. Here's what happened: * executing `deploy:assets:precompile' * executing "cd /var/www/oneteam/releases/20121006153136 && bundle exec rake RAILS_ENV=production RAILS_GROUPS=assets assets:precompile" servers: ["electricsasquatch.com"] [electricsasquatch.com] executing command ** [out :: electricsasquatch.com] rake aborted! ** [out :: electricsasquatch.com] uninitialized constant OneTeam::Application::FactoryGirl ** [out :: electricsasquatch.com] ** [out :: electricsasquatch.com] (See full trace by running task with --trace) It looks like it failed on the deploy:assets:precompile command. I don't get why that command would have tried to do anything with FactoryGirl, though. Any ideas?

  • Are Sphinx & thinking_sphinx really stable? Not indexing Columns

    - by seb
I'm encountering strange behaviour from thinking_sphinx/sphinx. My define_index block is about 100 lines, so quite a lot of columns i'm indexing. For full-text searching I only need about 10 attributes, for sorting and filtering I have another approximately 50 columns, mostly floats and integers. By filtering I mean using the "with" or "without" options. Searching does not really work consistently. All of a sudden, one attribute fails to filter. Or if I add a new one, it does not work. Only after a lot of tinkering it suddenly starts working. I cannot really reproduce it. Steps I that sometimes lead me to success where: rm -rf db/sphinx change the attribute definition e.g. has some_attribute = has some_attribute, :sortable = true or = has some_attribute, :sortable = true, :as = "some_attribute" restarting the server assigning a new :as name = has some_attribute, :as = "some_attribute_new" (yes, I did rake ts:rebuild or rake ts:in after every step) Does anybody else encounter similar problems?

  • Why is Rails is trying to rerun migrations on production?

    - by ryeguy
On my server when deploying the app for the first time, I ran rake db:setup which loads my entire migration history from schema.rb. Now I have more stuff I want to add, but when I run rake db:migrate on my server I realize it's trying to run my very first migration, which is failing since the table obviously exists. Examining the schema_migrations table on my production server, I realize it only has one entry in it, which is the migration that was the most current at the time of the initial deployment. Isn't it supposed to have the entire migration history in it? If so, what caused this? If not, why is it doing this?

  • Error trying to run rails server

    - by David87
I am trying to get a basic Rails application to run on my Mac OS X 10.6.5. I created a new app called demo (rails new demo), then went into the demo directory and tried to start the app with rails server. Here is the error message I received: "/Users/dpetrovi/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/sqlite3-ruby-1.3.2/lib/sqlite3/sqlite3_native.bundle: [BUG] Segmentation fault ruby 1.8.7 (2010-12-23 patchlevel 330) [i686-darwin10] Abort trap" I checked bundle install in the demo folder: "Using rake (0.8.7) Using abstract (1.0.0) Using activesupport (3.0.3) Using builder (2.1.2) Using i18n (0.5.0) Using activemodel (3.0.3) Using erubis (2.6.6) Using rack (1.2.1) Using rack-mount (0.6.13) Using rack-test (0.5.6) Using tzinfo (0.3.23) Using actionpack (3.0.3) Using mime-types (1.16) Using polyglot (0.3.1) Using treetop (1.4.9) Using mail (2.2.13) Using actionmailer (3.0.3) Using arel (2.0.6) Using activerecord (3.0.3) Using activeresource (3.0.3) Using bundler (1.0.7) Using thor (0.14.6) Using railties (3.0.3) Using rails (3.0.3) Using sqlite3-ruby (1.3.2) Your bundle is complete! Use bundle show [gemname] to see where a bundled gem is installed." Ruby, RubyGems, and sqlite3 were installed using MacPorts. Then I used gem to try to install the sqlite3-ruby interface. (sudo gem install sqlite3-ruby). Here is where I first noticed something could be off: "Successfully installed sqlite3-ruby-1.3.2 1 gem installed Installing ri documentation for sqlite3-ruby-1.3.2... No definition for libversion Enclosing class/module 'mSqlite3' for class Statement not known Installing RDoc documentation for sqlite3-ruby-1.3.2... No definition for libversion Enclosing class/module 'mSqlite3' for class Statement not known " I had rails running well on my system a few months ago, so I figured maybe I had some duplicates and it was trying to use the wrong one. I ran: "for cmd in ruby irb gem rake; do which $cmd; done" and got: "/opt/local/bin/ruby /opt/local/bin/irb /opt/local/bin/gem /opt/local/bin/rake" Checking where sqlite3 also gets me: "/opt/local/bin/sqlite3" so they all seem to be in the right place. Obviously /opt/local/bin is in my system path. If I check gems server, it shows that I have installed sqlite3-ruby 1.3.2 gem. Not sure what the problem could be? I am using ruby 1.8.7 (2010-12-23 patchlevel 330) [i686-darwin10]. Macports claims this is the latest (although ive seen 1.9.1) One more thing-- in irb, I tried to check which version of sqlite3 my sqlite3-ruby is bound to, but I can only get this far: ":irb(main):001:0 require 'rubygems' = true irb(main):002:0 require 'sqlite3' /Users/dpetrovi/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/sqlite3-ruby-1.3.2/lib/sqlite3/sqlite3_native.bundle: [BUG] Segmentation fault ruby 1.8.7 (2010-12-23 patchlevel 330) [i686-darwin10] Abort trap" Any suggestions? Im hoping I overlooked something obvious. Thanks

  • Why I am not able to run rails tests

    - by dorelal
This is what I did. > git clone git://github.com/rails/rails.git > cd rails > cd railties > rake And I got following error. • How do you unpack gems using jruby on rails 2.3?

    - by James Moore
I'm trying to unpack all the system gems to end up with a standalone Rails directory including all the rails gems and all the system gems. I'm starting with a bare rails setup; just did a jruby -S rails and a 'generate jdbc'. I then add a config.gem 'jdbc-mysql' to environment.rb and do the jruby -S rake gems:unpack:dependencies. After unpacking, if I do a rake I get: no such file to load -- jdbc-mysql Is there something else you need to do to get the jdbc gem unpacked? I'm using jruby 1.4.0 (and moving to 1.5 is on my todo list) and rails 2.3.8.

  • Why is rails setting ":null => false" on all my columns in schema.rb?

    - by ryeguy
Even if I never specify :null => false in my migrations that initially add columns to tables, rails still generates code in schema.rb that specifies the columns as having :null => false. Why is this? If I develop on my box, and then use rake db:schema:load on my production box, I'm going to get very different behavior! Edit: Even if I delete schema.rb and run rake db:schema:dump, it still puts :null => false on the new schema even if it isn't defined like that in the actual database. It seems it can't tell whether or not a column is marked as allowing nulls. I'm using SQLite if that helps.

  • Capistrano asks for SSH password when deploying from local machine to server

    - by GhostRider

  • Automated build platform for .NET portfolio - best choice?

    - by jkohlhepp
I am involved with maintaining a fairly large portfolio of .NET applications. Also in the portfolio are legacy applications built on top of other platforms - native C++, ECLIPS Forms, etc. I have a complex build framework on top of NAnt right now that manages the builds for all of these applications. The build framework uses NAnt to do a number of different things: Pull code out of Subversion, as well as create tags in Subversion Build the code, using MSBuild for .NET or other compilers for other platforms Peek inside AssemblyInfo files to increment version numbers Do deletes of certain files that shouldn't be included in builds / releases Releases code to deployment folders Zips code up for backup purposes Deploy Windows services; start and stop them Etc. Most of those things can be done with just NAnt by itself, but we did build a couple of extension tasks for NAnt to do some things that were specific to our environment. Also, most of those processes above are genericized and reused across a lot of our different application build scripts, so that we don't repeat logic. So it is not simple NAnt code, and not simple build scripts. There are dozens of NAnt files that come together to execute a build. Lately I've been dissatisfied with NAnt for a couple reasons: (1) it's syntax is just awful - programming languages on top of XML are really horrific to maintain, (2) the project seems to have died on the vine; there haven't been a ton of updates lately and it seems like no one is really at the helm. Trying to get it working with .NET 4 has cause some pain points due to this lack of activity. So, with all of that background out of the way, here's my question. Given some of the things that I want to accomplish based on that list above, and given that I am primarily in a .NET shop, but I also need to build non-.NET projects, is there an alternative to NAnt that I should consider switching to? Things on my radar include Powershell (with or without psake), MSBuild by itself, and rake. These all have pros and cons. For example, is MSBuild powerful enough? I remember using it years ago and it didn't seem to have as much power as NAnt. Do I really want to have my team learn Ruby just to do builds using rake? Is psake really mature enough of a project to pin my portfolio to? Is Powershell "too close to the metal" and I'll end up having to write my own build library akin to psake to use it on its own? Are there other tools that I should consider? If you were involved with maintaining a .NET portfolio of significant complexity, what build tool would you be looking at? What does your team currently use?

  • How to Research Keywords - 1 Other Thing the Gurus Left Out

It's actually funny when you're learning "how to research keywords" in the beginning they tell you to just find some long tail keywords that has low competition and good search volume. Then they tell you to write some articles around those keywords and submit them to the article directories. At this point you're free to sit back, watch the traffic flow in, and rake in the dough!

  • Proper way to use hiera with puppetlabs-spec-helper?

    - by Lee Lowder
I am trying to write some rspec tests for my modules. Most of them now use hiera. I have a .fixures.yml: fixtures: repositories: stdlib: https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-stdlib.git hiera-puppet: https://github.com/puppetlabs/hiera-puppet.git symlinks: mongodb: "#{source_dir}" and a spec/classes/mongodb_spec.rb: require 'spec_helper' describe 'mongodb', :type => 'class' do context "On an Ubuntu install, admin and single user" do let :facts do { :osfamily => 'Debian', :operatingsystem => 'Ubuntu', :operatingsystemrelease => '12.04' } end it { should contain_user('XXXX').with( { 'uid' => '***' } ) should contain_group('XXXX').with( { 'gid' => '***' } ) should contain_package('mongodb').with( { 'name' => 'mongodb' } ) should contain_service('mongodb').with( { 'name' => 'mongodb' } ) } end end but when I run the spec test, I get: # rake spec /usr/bin/ruby1.8 -S rspec spec/classes/mongodb_spec.rb --color F Failures: 1) mongodb On an Ubuntu install, admin and single user Failure/Error: should contain_user('XXXX').with( { 'uid' => '***' } ) LoadError: no such file to load -- hiera_puppet # ./spec/fixtures/modules/hiera-puppet/lib/puppet/parser/functions/hiera.rb:3:in `function_hiera' # ./spec/classes/mongodb_spec.rb:15 Finished in 0.05415 seconds 1 example, 1 failure Failed examples: rspec ./spec/classes/mongodb_spec.rb:14 # mongodb On an Ubuntu install, admin and single user rake aborted! /usr/bin/ruby1.8 -S rspec spec/classes/mongodb_spec.rb --color failed Tasks: TOP => spec_standalone (See full trace by running task with --trace) Module spec testing is relatively new, as is hiera. So far I have been unable to find any suitable solutions. (the back and forth on puppet-dev was interesting, but not helpful). What changes do I need to make to get this to work? Installing puppet from a gem and hacking on rubylib isn't a viable solution due to corporate policy. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS + Puppet 2.7.17 + hiera 0.3.0.

  • Using Monit to monitor Resque

    - by Alex
I'm trying to use resque as a job runner for Rails. I've tried this config, and many other ways of demonizing the rescue task (because running rake resque:work leaves the terminal tied to that command). • Creating a multi-tenant application using PostgreSQL's schemas and Rails

    - by ramon.tayag
Stuff I've already figured out I'm learning how to create a multi-tenant application in Rails that serves data from different schemas based on what domain or subdomain is used to view the application. I already have a few concerns answered: How can you get subdomain-fu to work with domains as well? Here's someone that asked the same question which leads you to this blog. What database, and how will it be structured? Here's an excellent talk by Guy Naor, and good question about PostgreSQL and schemas. I already know my schemas will all have the same structure. They will differ in the data they hold. So, how can you run migrations for all schemas? Here's an answer. Those three points cover a lot of the general stuff I need to know. However, in the next steps I seem to have many ways of implementing things. I'm hoping that there's a better, easier way. Finally, to my question When a new user signs up, I can easily create the schema. However, what would be the best and easiest way to load the structure that the rest of the schemas already have? Here are some questions/scenarios that might give you a better idea. Should I pass it on to a shell script that dumps the public schema into a temporary one, and imports it back to my main database (pretty much like what Guy Naor says in his video)? Here's a quick summary/script I got from the helpful #postgres on freenode. While this will probably work, I'm gonna have to do a lot of stuff outside of Rails, which makes me a bit uncomfortable.. which also brings me to the next question. Is there a way to do this straight from Ruby on Rails? Like create a PostgreSQL schema, then just load the Rails database schema (schema.rb - I know, it's confusing) into that PostgreSQL schema. Is there a gem/plugin that has these things already? Methods like "create_pg_schema_and_load_rails_schema(the_new_schema_name)". If there's none, I'll probably work at making one, but I'm doubtful about how well tested it'll be with all the moving parts (especially if I end up using a shell script to create and manage new PostgreSQL schemas). Thanks, and I hope that wasn't too long! UPDATE May 11, 2010 11:26 GMT+8 Since last night I've been able to get a method to work that creates a new schema and loads schema.rb into it. Not sure if what I'm doing is correct (seems to work fine, so far) but it's a step closer at least. If there's a better way please let me know. module SchemaUtils def self.add_schema_to_path(schema) conn = ActiveRecord::Base.connection conn.execute "SET search_path TO #{schema}, #{conn.schema_search_path}" end def self.reset_search_path conn = ActiveRecord::Base.connection conn.execute "SET search_path TO #{conn.schema_search_path}" end def self.create_and_migrate_schema(schema_name) conn = ActiveRecord::Base.connection schemas = conn.select_values("select * from pg_namespace where nspname != 'information_schema' AND nspname NOT LIKE 'pg%'") if schemas.include?(schema_name) tables = conn.tables Rails.logger.info "#{schema_name} exists already with these tables #{tables.inspect}" else Rails.logger.info "About to create #{schema_name}" conn.execute "create schema #{schema_name}" end # Save the old search path so we can set it back at the end of this method old_search_path = conn.schema_search_path # Tried to set the search path like in the methods above (from Guy Naor) # conn.execute "SET search_path TO #{schema_name}" # But the connection itself seems to remember the old search path. # If set this way, it works. conn.schema_search_path = schema_name # Directly from databases.rake. # In Rails 2.3.5 databases.rake can be found in railties/lib/tasks/databases.rake file = "#{Rails.root}/db/schema.rb" if File.exists?(file) Rails.logger.info "About to load the schema #{file}" load(file) else abort %{#{file} doesn't exist yet. It's possible that you just ran a migration!} end Rails.logger.info "About to set search path back to #{old_search_path}." conn.schema_search_path = old_search_path end end

  • Thinking Sphinx not working in test mode

    - by J. Pablo Fernández
I'm trying to get Thinking Sphinx to work in test mode in Rails. Basically this: ThinkingSphinx::Test.init ThinkingSphinx::Test.start freezes and never comes back. My test and devel configuration is the same for test and devel: dry_setting: &dry_setting adapter: mysql host: localhost encoding: utf8 username: rails password: blahblah development: <<: *dry_setting database: proj_devel socket: /tmp/mysql.sock # sphinx requires it test: <<: *dry_setting database: proj_test socket: /tmp/mysql.sock # sphinx requires it and sphinx.yml development: enable_star: 1 min_infix_len: 2 bin_path: /opt/local/bin test: enable_star: 1 min_infix_len: 2 bin_path: /opt/local/bin production: enable_star: 1 min_infix_len: 2 The generated config files, config/development.sphinx.conf and config/test.sphinx.conf only differ in database names, directories and similar things; nothing functional. Generating the index for devel goes without an issue $ rake ts:in (in /Users/pupeno/proj) default config Generating Configuration to /Users/pupeno/proj/config/development.sphinx.conf Sphinx 0.9.8.1-release (r1533) Copyright (c) 2001-2008, Andrew Aksyonoff using config file '/Users/pupeno/proj/config/development.sphinx.conf'... indexing index 'user_core'... collected 7 docs, 0.0 MB collected 0 attr values sorted 0.0 Mvalues, 100.0% done sorted 0.0 Mhits, 99.8% done total 7 docs, 422 bytes total 0.098 sec, 4320.80 bytes/sec, 71.67 docs/sec indexing index 'user_delta'... collected 0 docs, 0.0 MB collected 0 attr values sorted 0.0 Mvalues, nan% done total 0 docs, 0 bytes total 0.010 sec, 0.00 bytes/sec, 0.00 docs/sec distributed index 'user' can not be directly indexed; skipping. but when I try to do it for test it freezes: $ RAILS_ENV=test rake ts:in (in /Users/pupeno/proj) DEPRECATION WARNING: require "activeresource" is deprecated and will be removed in Rails 3. Any ideas where to go from here? I can run the command line manually: /opt/local/bin/indexer --config config/test.sphinx.conf --all which generates the output as the rake ts:in, so no help there.

  • Missing a constant on load.. how can i get around this? (Rails::Plugin::OpenID)

    - by Chris Kimpton
I have a Rails 2 project that I am trying to upgrade to Rails 3, but getting some issues with bundler. When I run "rake", it runs the tests just fine. But when I run "bundle exec rake" it fails to find a constant. • Rails development environment Resque.enqueue does not create jobs

    - by anton evangelatov
I am having the same problem like Rails custom environment Resque.enqueue does not create jobs , but the solution there doesn't work for me. I'm using Resque for a couple of asynchronous jobs. It works just fine for the staging environment, but for some reason it stopped working on development environment. For example, if I run the following: $ rails c development > Resque.enqueue(MyLovelyJob, 1) Nothing is enqueued. I check Resque using resque-web If I run it on staging - it works just fine. $ rails c staging > Resque.enqueue(MyLovelyJob, 1) I have tried to duplicate the 2 environment, and they seem to use absolutely the same configurations (database.yml , config/environment , etc.), but development is still not working. If I do > Resque.enqueue(UpdateInstancesData, 2) > => true > Resque.info > => { > :pending => 0, > :processed => 0, > :queues => 0, > :workers => 1, > :working => 0, > :failed => 0, > :servers => [ > [0] "redis://127.0.0.1:6379/0" > ], > :environment => "development" > } Any suggestions where to look in order to debug this? I am running the application via foreman. In constant battle to install Ruby 1.9.2 on an RPM system (OS is based off of CentOS), I'm trying again with RVM. So once I install it, I then try to use it: [root@quackwall ~]# rvm use 1.9.2 Using /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p136 [root@quackwall ~]# ruby bash: ruby: command not found [root@quackwall ~]# which ruby /usr/bin/which: no ruby in (/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin) Now that's interesting; rvm info says something completely different: [root@quackwall bin]# rvm info ruby-1.9.2-p136: system: uname: "Linux quackwall.highwow.lan 2.6.18-194.8.1.v5 #1 SMP Thu Jul 15 01:14:04 EDT 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux" bash: "/bin/bash => GNU bash, version 3.2.25(1)-release (i686-redhat-linux-gnu)" zsh: " => not installed" rvm: version: "rvm 1.2.2 by Wayne E. • Thinking sphinx: Problems with polymorphic associations

    - by auralbee
Hello, I recently switched from ultrasphinx to thinking_sphinx for full-text search. I am trying to figure out how to index fields of polymorphic associations. I found some information but I still have some problems, although it seems to be easy. Here is my setup: class Info < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :mappable, :polymorphic => true define_index indexes mappable_type indexes mappable(:name), :as => :mappable_name end class A < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :infos, :as => :mappable end class B < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :infos, :as => :mappable end Amongst others, I want to do a search in the name column of A and B (both classes have this column), so I added the field to my index. When I do rake thinking_sphinx:index I get the following error: Generating Configuration to .../config/development.sphinx.conf rake aborted! undefined method `connection' for Object:Class .../.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/thinking-sphinx-1.3.16/lib/thinking_sphinx/ association.rb:149:in `casted_options' Any idea? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance. Tobi
