  • Sensible Way to Pass Web Data in XML to a SQL Server Database

    - by Emtucifor
    After exploring several different ways to pass web data to a database for update purposes, I'm wondering if XML might be a good strategy. The database is currently SQL 2000. In a few months it will move to SQL 2005 and I will be able to change things if needed, but I need a SQL 2000 solution now. First of all, the database in question uses the EAV model. I know that this kind of database is generally highly frowned on, so for the purposes of this question, please just accept that this is not going to change. The current update method has the web server inserting values (that have all been converted first to their correct underlying types, then to sql_variant) to a temp table. A stored procedure is then run which expects the temp table to exist and it takes care of updating, inserting, or deleting things as needed. So far, only a single element has needed to be updated at a time. But now, there is a requirement to be able to edit multiple elements at once, and also to support hierarchical elements, each of which can have its own list of attributes. Here's some example XML I hand-typed to demonstrate what I'm thinking of. Note that in this database the Entity is Element and an ID of 0 signifies "create" aka an insert of a new item. <Elements> <Element ID="1234"> <Attr ID="221">Value</Attr> <Attr ID="225">287</Attr> <Attr ID="234"> <Element ID="99825"> <Attr ID="7">Value1</Attr> <Attr ID="8">Value2</Attr> <Attr ID="9" Action="delete" /> </Element> <Element ID="99826" Action="delete" /> <Element ID="0" Type="24"> <Attr ID="7">Value4</Attr> <Attr ID="8">Value5</Attr> <Attr ID="9">Value6</Attr> </Element> <Element ID="0" Type="24"> <Attr ID="7">Value7</Attr> <Attr ID="8">Value8</Attr> <Attr ID="9">Value9</Attr> </Element> </Attr> <Rel ID="3827" Action="delete" /> <Rel ID="2284" Role="parent"> <Element ID="3827" /> <Element ID="3829" /> <Attr ID="665">1</Attr> </Rel> <Rel ID="0" Type="23" Role="child"> <Element ID="3830" /> <Attr ID="67" </Rel> </Element> <Element ID="0" Type="87"> <Attr ID="221">Value</Attr> <Attr ID="225">569</Attr> <Attr ID="234"> <Element ID="0" Type="24"> <Attr ID="7">Value10</Attr> <Attr ID="8">Value11</Attr> <Attr ID="9">Value12</Attr> </Element> </Attr> </Element> <Element ID="1235" Action="delete" /> </Elements> Some Attributes are straight value types, such as AttrID 221. But AttrID 234 is a special "multi-value" type that can have a list of elements underneath it, and each one can have one or more values. Types only need to be presented when a new item is created, since the ElementID fully implies the type if it already exists. I'll probably support only passing in changed items (as detected by javascript). And there may be an Action="Delete" on Attr elements as well, since NULLs are treated as "unselected"--sometimes it's very important to know if a Yes/No question has intentionally been answered No or if no one's bothered to say Yes yet. There is also a different kind of data, a Relationship. At this time, those are updated through individual AJAX calls as things are edited in the UI, but I'd like to include those so that changes to relationships can be canceled (right now, once you change it, it's done). So those are really elements, too, but they are called Rel instead of Element. Relationships are implemented as ElementID1 and ElementID2, so the RelID 2284 in the XML above is in the database as: ElementID 2284 ElementID1 1234 ElementID2 3827 Having multiple children in one relationship isn't currently supported, but it would be nice later. Does this strategy and the example XML make sense? Is there a more sensible way? I'm just looking for some broad critique to help save me from going down a bad path. Any aspect that you'd like to comment on would be helpful. The web language happens to be Classic ASP, but that could change to ASP.Net at some point. A persistence engine like Linq or nHibernate is probably not acceptable right now--I just want to get this already working application enhanced without a huge amount of development time. I'll choose the answer that shows experience and has a balance of good warnings about what not to do, confirmations of what I'm planning to do, and recommendations about something else to do. I'll make it as objective as possible. P.S. I'd like to handle unicode characters as well as very long strings (10k +). UPDATE I have had this working for some time and I used the ADO Recordset Save-To-Stream trick to make creating the XML really easy. The result seems to be fairly fast, though if speed ever becomes a problem I may revisit this. In the meantime, my code works to handle any number of elements and attributes on the page at once, including updating, deleting, and creating new items all in one go. I settled on a scheme like so for all my elements: Existing data elements Example: input name e12345_a678 (element 12345, attribute 678), the input value is the value of the attribute. New elements Javascript copies a hidden template of the set of HTML elements needed for the type into the correct location on the page, increments a counter to get a new ID for this item, and prepends the number to the names of the form items. var newid = 0; function metadataAdd(reference, nameid, value) { var t = document.createElement('input'); t.setAttribute('name', nameid); t.setAttribute('id', nameid); t.setAttribute('type', 'hidden'); t.setAttribute('value', value); reference.appendChild(t); } function multiAdd(target, parentelementid, attrid, elementtypeid) { var proto = document.getElementById('a' + attrid + '_proto'); var instance = document.createElement('p'); target.parentNode.parentNode.insertBefore(instance, target.parentNode); var thisid = ++newid; instance.innerHTML = proto.innerHTML.replace(/{prefix}/g, 'n' + thisid + '_'); instance.id = 'n' + thisid; instance.className += ' new'; metadataAdd(instance, 'n' + thisid + '_p', parentelementid); metadataAdd(instance, 'n' + thisid + '_c', attrid); metadataAdd(instance, 'n' + thisid + '_t', elementtypeid); return false; } Example: Template input name _a678 becomes n1_a678 (a new element, the first one on the page, attribute 678). all attributes of this new element are tagged with the same prefix of n1. The next new item will be n2, and so on. Some hidden form inputs are created: n1_t, value is the elementtype of the element to be created n1_p, value is the parent id of the element (if it is a relationship) n1_c, value is the child id of the element (if it is a relationship) Deleting elements A hidden input is created in the form e12345_t with value set to 0. The existing controls displaying that attribute's values are disabled so they are not included in the form post. So "set type to 0" is treated as delete. With this scheme, every item on the page has a unique name and can be distinguished properly, and every action can be represented properly. When the form is posted, here's a sample of building one of the two recordsets used (classic ASP code): Set Data = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") Data.Fields.Append "ElementID", adInteger, 4, adFldKeyColumn Data.Fields.Append "AttrID", adInteger, 4, adFldKeyColumn Data.Fields.Append "Value", adLongVarWChar, 2147483647, adFldIsNullable Or adFldMayBeNull Data.CursorLocation = adUseClient Data.CursorType = adOpenDynamic Data.Open This is the recordset for values, the other is for the elements themselves. I step through the posted form and for the element recordset use a Scripting.Dictionary populated with instances of a custom Class that has the properties I need, so that I can add the values piecemeal, since they don't always come in order. New elements are added as negative to distinguish them from regular elements (rather than requiring a separate column to indicate if it is new or addresses an existing element). I use regular expression to tear apart the form keys: "^(e|n)([0-9]{1,10})_(a|p|t|c)([0-9]{0,10})$" Then, adding an attribute looks like this. Data.AddNew ElementID.Value = DataID AttrID.Value = Integerize(Matches(0).SubMatches(3)) AttrValue.Value = Request.Form(Key) Data.Update ElementID, AttrID, and AttrValue are references to the fields of the recordset. This method is hugely faster than using Data.Fields("ElementID").Value each time. I loop through the Dictionary of element updates and ignore any that don't have all the proper information, adding the good ones to the recordset. Then I call my data-updating stored procedure like so: Set Cmd = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command") With Cmd Set .ActiveConnection = MyDBConn .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc .CommandText = "DataPost" .Prepared = False .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("@ElementMetadata", adLongVarWChar, adParamInput, 2147483647, XMLFromRecordset(Element)) .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("@ElementData", adLongVarWChar, adParamInput, 2147483647, XMLFromRecordset(Data)) End With Result.Open Cmd ' previously created recordset object with options set Here's the function that does the xml conversion: Private Function XMLFromRecordset(Recordset) Dim Stream Set Stream = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Stream") Stream.Open Recordset.Save Stream, adPersistXML Stream.Position = 0 XMLFromRecordset = Stream.ReadText End Function Just in case the web page needs to know, the SP returns a recordset of any new elements, showing their page value and their created value (so I can see that n1 is now e12346 for example). Here are some key snippets from the stored procedure. Note this is SQL 2000 for now, though I'll be able to switch to 2005 soon: CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[DataPost] @ElementMetaData ntext, @ElementData ntext AS DECLARE @hdoc int --- snip --- EXEC sp_xml_preparedocument @hdoc OUTPUT, @ElementMetaData, '<xml xmlns:s="uuid:BDC6E3F0-6DA3-11d1-A2A3-00AA00C14882" xmlns:dt="uuid:C2F41010-65B3-11d1-A29F-00AA00C14882" xmlns:rs="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:rowset" xmlns:z="#RowsetSchema" />' INSERT #ElementMetadata (ElementID, ElementTypeID, ElementID1, ElementID2) SELECT * FROM OPENXML(@hdoc, '/xml/rs:data/rs:insert/z:row', 0) WITH ( ElementID int, ElementTypeID int, ElementID1 int, ElementID2 int ) ORDER BY ElementID -- orders negative items (new elements) first so they begin counting at 1 for later ID calculation EXEC sp_xml_removedocument @hdoc --- snip --- UPDATE E SET E.ElementTypeID = M.ElementTypeID FROM Element E INNER JOIN #ElementMetadata M ON E.ElementID = M.ElementID WHERE E.ElementID >= 1 AND M.ElementTypeID >= 1 The following query does the correlation of the negative new element ids to the newly inserted ones: UPDATE #ElementMetadata -- Correlate the new ElementIDs with the input rows SET NewElementID = Scope_Identity() - @@RowCount + DataID WHERE ElementID < 0 Other set-based queries do all the other work of validating that the attributes are allowed, are the correct data type, and inserting, updating, and deleting elements and attributes. I hope this brief run-down is useful to others some day! Converting ADO Recordsets to an XML stream was a huge winner for me as it saved all sorts of time and had a namespace and schema already defined that made the results come out correctly. Using a flatter XML format with 2 inputs was also much easier than sticking to some ideal about having everything in a single XML stream.

What do I need to do in order to render the page correctly? Thanks in advance, Eran

    - by Jonah
    The HTML: <div id="timerList"> ... <li rel="project" class="open"> <a class="" style="" href=""><ins>&nbsp;</ins>Project C</a> </li> ... </div> The javascript/jquery: $('#timerList li[rel="project"]').mouseover(function(){ $('a:first',this).after('<span class="addNew"><a href="#">Add Timer</a></span>'); }).mouseout(function(){ $('.addNew',this).remove(); }); When I hover my mouse over an li element, a span.addNew element is created within THE PROBLEM: When I put my mouse ofer the span.addNew, it flickers on and off. Perhaps the mouseout event is firing, but I don't understand why it would or how to prevent it. Thanks!

  • 403 error after adding javascript to masterpage for sharepoint.

    - by Jeremy
    I am attempting to add highslide-with-html.js from http://highslide.com/ to my masterpage. I am receiving a 403 forbidden error when I use the provided masterpage. I have placed it in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033. Test javascript files such as pirate.js which consists solely of alert("Arr!"); have loaded from the same directory. I have provided the code for the masterpage. When I do not reference the problem javascript file there is no 403 error. <%@ Master language="C#" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <%@ Import Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="SPSWC" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls" Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="SharePoint" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls" Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="WebPartPages" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages" Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="PublishingWebControls" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.WebControls" Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="PublishingNavigation" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Navigation" Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %> <%@ Register TagPrefix="wssuc" TagName="Welcome" src="~/_controltemplates/Welcome.ascx" %> <%@ Register TagPrefix="wssuc" TagName="DesignModeConsole" src="~/_controltemplates/DesignModeConsole.ascx" %> <%@ Register TagPrefix="PublishingVariations" TagName="VariationsLabelMenu" src="~/_controltemplates/VariationsLabelMenu.ascx" %> <%@ Register Tagprefix="PublishingConsole" TagName="Console" src="~/_controltemplates/PublishingConsole.ascx" %> <%@ Register TagPrefix="PublishingSiteAction" TagName="SiteActionMenu" src="~/_controltemplates/PublishingActionMenu.ascx" %> <html dir="<%$Resources:wss, multipages_direction_dir_value %>" runat="server" __expr-val-dir="ltr"> <head runat="server"> <meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft SharePoint"> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;   • jquery dialog - which button opened the dialog?

    In the example below, how can you use the event and ui objects to detect which link opened the dialog? Can't seem to get $(event.target).attr("title"); to work properly, and I'm having trouble finding documentation on the 'ui object that is passed. Thanks! $( ".selector" ).dialog({ link_title = $(event.target).attr("title"); alert(link_title); }); $("a").live("click", function() { btn_rel = $(this).attr("rel"); $(btn_rel).dialog("open"); }); <a class="btn pencil" rel="#dialog_support_option_form" title="Edit Support Option">Edit</button>

  • How to fix a Sticky Footer that works, but after a browser window is resized, the footer overlaps.

    - by UXdesigner
    Good day, I've been trying to build a perfect footer who sticks at the bottom of the browser window after it's content. And I got help here @ Stack Overflow previously. But after a while, and doing a few tests, found out that after the browser window is resized, and then I scroll down , the footer overlaps...it is causing me a big headache right now and I'd like to fix this so I can move on. I'm going to post the display.css right here: @charset "utf-8"; body, html { margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: center; position: relative; min-height:100%; /* needed for footer positioning*/ height:100%; • ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM - favicon not displayed in Internet Explorer

    - by hungster
    I have the following two lines in the head section in my masterpage: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/Content/Images/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <link rel="icon" href="/Content/Images/favicon.ico" type="image/ico" /> However, the favicon is not displayed in Internet Explorer (version 6, 7, 8). In Firefox and Safari the favicon works fine. I have even tried to replace href with the URL to my website (http://www......./Content/Images/favicon.ico) but that still does not work in Internet Explorer. Am I missing something?

  • Problem loading XMLDocument with non standard tags

    - by David Conde
    Hi, I have a code needed to load an XML document from a reader, something like this: private static XmlDocument GetDocumentStream(string xmlAddress) { var settings = new XmlReaderSettings(); settings.DtdProcessing = DtdProcessing.Ignore; settings.ValidationFlags = XmlSchemaValidationFlags.None; var reader = XmlReader.Create(xmlAddress, settings); document.Load(reader); return document; } But in my XML document, I have nodes like this one: <link rel="edit-media" title="Package" href="Packages(Id='51Degrees.mobi',Version='0.1.11.9')/$value" /> Is to my understanding that the node should be like <link rel="edit-media" title="Package"></link> But, I don't create the Xml document and I certainly don't want to change it, but when I try to load the XML document, the document.Load line throws an exception. To be more specific, the XML file is the RSS source for the nuPack project. Any ideas would be very appreaciated on how to be able to read this document properly.

  • Rails AtomFeedBuilder Entry :Url option appears in url tag but not in link tag

    - by Nick
    Hello, I'm using the AtomFeedHelper and everything is working fine except for one feed where I need to link each entry to a URL which is not the default polymorphic_url for the record. Per the documentation I've specified an :url option for the entry. This correctly renders a <url> tag in the atom node but the <link rel="alternate" still points to the default polymorphic_url. Looking at the source and the documentation I don't understand why this is happening. Here's an example builder: atom_feed do |feed| feed.title("Reports") feed.updated(@reports.first.created_at) for report in @reports content = report.notes feed.entry(report) do |entry| entry.title(report.title) entry.content(content, :type => 'html') entry.url("http://myhost/page/") entry.updated(report.updated_at.strftime("%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%SZ")) entry.author do |author| author.name(report.user.username) end end end end Here's an example of a problem node: <entry> <id>tag:molly.recargo.com,2005:SiteReport/2</id> <published>2010-03-30T13:11:07-07:00</published> <updated>2010-03-30T13:11:07-07:00</updated> <link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://myhost/site_reports/2"/> <title>Test Title</title> <content type="html">Test Content</content> <url>http://myhost/page/</url> <updated>2010-03-30T13:11:07Z</updated> <author> <name>Author</name> </author> </entry> I wan the href value in the link tag to match the value in the url tag but it does not. When I look at the source listed for entry here http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionView/Helpers/AtomFeedHelper/AtomFeedBuilder.html I'd assume that this line would work correctly: @xml.link(:rel => 'alternate', :type => 'text/html', :href => options[:url] || @view.polymorphic_url(record)) Confused. Has anyone encountered this before? Thanks all!

  • jQuery tools modal overlay display problem in IE6-8

    - by Michael Stone
    I'm trying to enable the overlay to be modal. It works perfectly fine in FireFox, but the window object is behind the mask when it becomes modal. This prevents any interaction with it and the page is actually useless. I've tried debugging this for a while and can't figure it out. Here is a link to the example on their site: http://flowplayer.org/tools/demos/overlay/modal-dialog.html $.fn.cfwindow = function(btnEvent,modal,draggable){ //error checking if(btnEvent == ""){ alert('Error in window :\n Please provide an id that instantiates the window. '); } if(!modal && !draggable){ $('#'+btnEvent+'[rel]').overlay(); $('#content_overlay').css('cursor','default'); } if(!modal && draggable){ $('#'+btnEvent+'[rel]').overlay(); $('#content_overlay').css('cursor','move'); $('#custom').draggable(); } if(modal){ $('#'+btnEvent+'[rel]').overlay({ // some mask tweaks suitable for modal dialogs mask: { color: '#646464', loadSpeed: 200, opacity: 0.6 }, closeOnClick: false }); $('#content_overlay').css('cursor','default'); //$('#custom').addClass('modal'); } }; That's what I'm referencing when I call through: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $(document).pngFix(); var modal = <cfoutput>#attributes.modal#; var drag = #attributes.draggable#; var btn = '#attributes.selector#'; var src = '#attributes.source#'; var wid = '#attributes.width#'; $('##custom').width(parseInt(wid)); $('div##load_content').load(src); $('##custom').cfwindow(btn,modal,drag,wid); }); </script> CSS for the modal: <style type="text/css"> .modal { display:none; text-align:left; background-color:#FFFFFF; -moz-border-radius:6px; -webkit-border-radius:6px; } </style> Exclude the and the additional pound signs, IE. "##". Screen shot of the problem: http://twitpic.com/1tak06 Note: IE6 and IE8 have the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.

  • jQuery-Facebox - Popup is not working after repaint from AJAX

    - by Bragaadeesh
    Hi I am having a set of Links in my page and I have attached the facebox jQuery functionality so that whenever a link is pressed, it will get a nice popup <a href="coach_selector_popup?day=<%= day %>&hour=<%= hour %>" rel="facebox"> Below is the script that I use for 'facebox'ing. <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function($) { jQuery('a[rel*=facebox]').facebox() }) </script> The above is working fine. But when I render it again on response to some AJAX call, the functionality is getting lost, meaning when I click on the link I am redirected to a page instead of a facebox popup. I know that I need to do something when I repaint, can someone point me to the right direction?

Here is a sample of my page source: Included the links to scripts as required, and CSS: <script src="jquery.fancybox-1.2.1/jquery.fancybox/jquery-1.3.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="jquery.fancybox-1.2.1/jquery.fancybox/jquery.fancybox-1.2.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <link href="jquery.fancybox-1.2.1/jquery.fancybox/jquery.fancybox.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="css/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> Then this should simply work: <a id="single_image" href="images/279641.jpg"><img src="images/279641.jpg" /></a> But it doesn't seem to do anything except open the image in a new window. Any suggestions, and thanks in advance.

  • Kendo UI, searchable Combobox

    - by user2083524
    I am using the free Kendo UI Core Framework. I am looking for a searchable Combobox that fires the sql after inserting, for example, 2 letters. Behind my Listbox there are more than 10000 items and now it takes too much time when I load or refresh the page. Is it possible to trigger the sql query only by user input like the autocomplete widget do? My code is: <link href="test/styles/kendo.common.min.css" rel="stylesheet" /> <link href="test/styles/kendo.default.min.css" rel="stylesheet" /> <script src="test/js/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="test/js/kendo.ui.core.min.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function() { var objekte = $("#objekte").kendoComboBox({ placeholder: "Objekt auswählen", dataTextField: "kurzname", dataValueField: "objekt_id", minLength: 2, delay: 0, dataSource: new kendo.data.DataSource({ transport: { read: "test/objects.php" }, schema: { data: "data" } }), }).data("kendoComboBox"); </script>

  • Having trouble on mouse over tabs

    - by user225269
    I downloaded a webpage template from the internet because I don't know how to design webpage on photoshop. This was the one I downloaded: http://www.freewebtemplates.com/download/templates/9839 And modified it. And I have this code for mouse over tabs from dynamic drive. But doesn't seem to be working with the template that I downloaded. Here is my current code: <script src="mouseovertabs.js" type="text/javascript"> </script> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Designed by Web Page Templates</title> <meta name="keywords" content="" /> <meta name="description" content="" /> <link href="default.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <table border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="bg1"> <tr> <td class="text1" style="height: 50px;">xd627 information management system</td> </tr> <tr> <div id="mytabsmenu" class="tabsmenuclass"> <td class="bg5"><table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="height: 62px; padding-top: 15px;"> <tr align="center"> <td><ul><li><a href="index.html" class="link1">Homepage</a></li></td> <td><li><a href="RegStuds.php" class="link1">Database</a></li></td> <td><li><a href="#" class="link1">About</a></li> </ul></td> <a href="submenucontents.htm" style="visibility:hidden">Sub Menu contents</a> <div id="mysubmenuarea" class="tabsmenucontentclass"> <!--1st link within submenu container should point to the external submenu contents file--> <a href="submenucontents.htm" style="visibility:hidden">Sub Menu contents</a> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> //mouseovertabsmenu.init("tabs_container_id", "submenu_container_id", "bool_hidecontentsmouseout") mouseovertabsmenu.init("mytabsmenu", "mysubmenuarea", true) </script> </div> What might be wrong here,its working perfectly with my previous one, but with no layout at all: <script src="mouseovertabs.js" type="text/javascript"> /*********************************************** * Mouseover Tabs Menu- (c) Dynamic Drive DHTML code library (www.dynamicdrive.com) * This notice MUST stay intact for legal use * Visit Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ for this script and 100s more ***********************************************/ </script> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> <div id="mytabsmenu" class="tabsmenuclass"> <ul> <li><a href="" rel="gotsubmenu[selected]">Database Manipulation</a></li> <li><a href="" rel="gotsubmenu" >Register User</a></li> <li><a href="loginform2.php" rel="gotsubmenu" >Logout</a></li> <li><a href=""></a></li> </ul> </div> <div id="mysubmenuarea" class="tabsmenucontentclass"> <!--1st link within submenu container should point to the external submenu contents file--> <a href="submenucontents.htm" style="visibility:hidden">Sub Menu contents</a> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> //mouseovertabsmenu.init("tabs_container_id", "submenu_container_id", "bool_hidecontentsmouseout") mouseovertabsmenu.init("mytabsmenu", "mysubmenuarea", true) </script> </body> </html>

  • Browser displays page without styles for a short moment (visual glitch)

    - by Pierre
    I have observed that, very infrequently, Internet Explorer (7 or 8, it does not matter) displays our web pages (www.epsitec.ch) a short time without applying the CSS. The layout appears completely broken, with everything displayed sequentially from top to bottom. When the page has finished loading, everything finally gets displayed properly. Our web pages do not use any fancy scripting, just two javascript inclusions for QuantCast and Google Analytics, done at the end of the page. By the way, we already had the issue before adding the QuantCast script. The CSS gets linked in the <head> section: <head> <title>Crésus Comptabilité</title> <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.epsitec.ch/favicon.ico" /> <link href="../../style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> ... </head> and then follows static HTML up to the final chunk which includes the JavaScript: ... <div id="account"> <a class="deselect" href="/account/login">Identifiez-vous</a> <script type="text/javascript"> _qoptions={qacct:"..."}; </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://edge.quantserve.com/quant.js"> </script> <noscript> <img src="..." style="display: none;" border="0" height="1" width="1"/> </noscript> </div> <div id="contact"> <a href="/support/contact">Contactez-nous</a> </div> <div id="ending"><!-- --></div> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> ... </script> <script type="text/javascript"> var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("..."); pageTracker._initData(); pageTracker._trackPageview(); </script> </body> As this is a very short visual glitch, I have no idea what provokes it. Worse, I cannot reproduce it and it appears only on seldom occasions. How can I further investigate the cause of the glitch? Are there any best practices I should be aware of?

  • how do I put a variable inside an attribute for an href tag

    - by Ido
    Hi I'm new to scripting Trying to change the css acording to a url variable, using jqURL plugin. for some reason this does not work for me: $(function(){ var n= $.jqURL.qs(); alert(n) $("link[rel=stylesheet]").attr({href : 'n + ".css"'}); }); the alert is there for debug, and works well, so it is a matter of how i put the var in the attribute. this, for example, works fine: if(n == 'red') { $("link[rel=stylesheet]").attr({href : "red.css"});} help please

I try to use live-editing CSS tool and it works fine . Thanks for reading :)

  • JQuery UI datepicker in Asp.Net MVC

    - by Frederik
    I have tried to use some of the widgets in JQuery UI on an Asp.Net MVC site without luck. For example the basic datepicker from jQuery UI - functional demos. I have created a simple MVC project and added the script references in Site.Master like this: <script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.2.6.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="../../Scripts/jquery-ui-personalized-1.5.3.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <link href="../../Content/Site.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="../../Content/ui.datepicker.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />" In the Index.aspx file I have cleared all default content and added the following: <script type="text/javascript"> $("#basics").datepicker(); </script> <input type="text" size="10" value="click here" id="basics"/> The core jQuery works fine. Any clues?

  • Switching/Linking to another external stylesheet in a .js file using Ruby on Rails

    - by Jake
    Im learning JQuery from a Sitepoint Book but Im trying to apply all the lessons to a Rails App. In one lesson, we are taught how to switch to a different stylesheet if the browser window is resized beyond a certain point. Here's the javascript code: if ($('body').width() > 900) { $('<link rel="stylesheet" href="wide.css" type="text/css" />') .appendTo('head'); } else { $('link[href=wide.css]').remove(); } Rails doesn't seem to want to link to the new stylesheet using 'link rel'. I've tried using the Rails helper: <%= stylesheet_link_tag 'base', :media => 'screen' %> but that doesn't work in a .js file. How do I link to an external stylesheet in a .js file using Ruby? Can I use Ruby on Rails code in a .js file? Thanks.

  • How to stop Jquery load function

    - by Sergio
    The Jquery load function don't stop if there is multiple click on the links in the menu. The jquery code looks like: $(document).ready(function(){ $(".menu_rfr").unbind("click").click(function() { $("#main").html('<img src="img/spin.gif" class="spin">'); location.replace($(this).attr('rel')); }); function handleClick() { $(this).unbind("click"); $("#main").html('<img src="img/spin.gif" class="spin">'); $("#main").load($(this).attr('rel'), function() { // reactivate it after some loading has completed $(this).click(handleClick); }); } $(".menu_clickable").click(handleClick); }); You can see the sample page at link text How can I prevent users clicks if the DIV content is not loaded completely and never ending DIV loading?

  • Cannot call external javascript function from SITE.MASTER

    - by WOPR
    I have a Site.Master in my ASP.NET project which defines a HEAD section as follows <head runat="server"> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title id="MasterTitle">MyApp</title> <link rel="icon" href="Content/icon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <link href="Content/mycss.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script src="Content/mycode.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> In the mycode.js file, I have a function called GetSels(); function GetSels() { //do stuff } If the GetSels function is defined in Site.Master, GetSels is callable. If it's in mycode.js, it's not. Every code example I've see seems to says this should work. What am I doing wrong?
