    Is there any software out there that can help me track, in real time, files being changed and/or created on my Windows (Windows 7) system? I'm trying to figure out all files being changed when setting up Windows Live Mail as I want to sync all relevant files between two computers. And no, the storage folder is not enough.   • Windows 7: System date and time resets to 2007

    My desktop computer has been upgraded to Windows 7 and ever since whenever I start it up, it resets the date and time to 2007. I tried changing the battery on the motherboard thinking that it would solve, but its still the same. I didn't face this trouble when Windows XP was installed on this computer. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Custom daemon script: works, but does not run at boot / startup

    this is Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick. I have the following shell script in init.d that I want to run as a "daemon" (background service with start/stop/restart really) at system startup. There is a symlink in rc3.d. I tried 4 and 5 too. (Ideally this would initialize before graphical login happens and before a user logs in.) IMPORTANT: the script works 100% as expected and required when testing this with service MetaLeapDaemon start and service MetaLeapDaemon stop. (This shell script calls a Python program which makes sure the appropriate .pid files are both created at startup and deleted at exit.) So generally it works fine but now my only issue is why it will not be run at any of the run-levels I tried. I know for sure it isn't run because the log file it normally creates does not get created. As you can see (by the lack of any uid:gid args in the start-stop-daemon commands) this would currently run only under root, is this forbidden in a default setup?     Please correct me if I am wrong here.... When I change my system clock this changes the file /usr/share/zoneinfo immediately, HOWEVER, the actual system time doesn't change until the next reboot because /etc/localtime then re-reads /usr/share/zoneinfo? I have seen behaviour similar to the above, whereby /usr/share/zoneinfo/ was accessed but the system time did not change until after the system had rebooted

  • Program to set time on local computer using GPS data

    I have a laptop running Windows XP that does not connect to the Internet and I would like to use a USB GPS receiver as a time source to set the clock. Generally, the laptop will not have access to the open sky so getting a strong, multi-satellite connection is not likely. Ideally, I would like to be able to have the program detect the GPS receiver and set the clock without intervention from the user. Is what I'm seeking even feasible?

  • Stop Ubuntu From Automatically Updating the Time

    I just need to set the date temporarily. I run this date 051918002010.00 and it sticks for just 5 seconds or so. Then it syncs with the time server. I have tried: ps aux | grep ntp but there is nothing there. I need a correct answer now, more than a more detailed answer later :) Edit: As answerers quickly discovered, my Ubuntu is running in a VirtualBox, which turned out to be relevant for some versions of the answer.     Hi, we have an application which is recently migrated from PA-Risk server to itanium server. After migration we noticed that there is significant increase in time taken to complete a process. when we tracked the time taken by each part we found that the system time is 7.590000, user time is 3.990000 but elapsed time is 70.434882!! Due to this huge elapsed time, overall performance of the application has gone very low. i wrote a small progrms to perform I/O operations on Itanium. these scripts working faster on Itanium compared to PA-Risk. what could be the reason for this high elapsed time of this process?

    I'm working on a journal-type application in Python. The application basically permits the user write entries in the journal and adds a time-stamp for later querying the journal. As of now, I use the time.ctime() function to generate time-stamps that are visually friendly. The journal entries thus look like: Thu Jan 21 19:59:47 2010 Did something Thu Jan 21 20:01:07 2010 Did something else Now, I would like to be able to use these time-stamps to do some searching/querying. I need to be able to search, for example, for "2010", or "feb 2010", or "23 feb 2010". My questions are: 1) What time module(s) should I use: time vs datetime? 2) What would be an appropriate way of creating and using the time-stamp objects? Many thanks!

  • Finding records within a 5 min time interval in SQL

    I have a table with over 100,000 rows that contain the following columns: ID, Time, and Boolean. The time column tracks time down to the second. I need a query that will find all instances of Boolean = 1 for every 5 minute interval of time from the start of the table to the end, then group the count by time interval. The table represents 4 hours of data, so I should get 48 rows of results. I'm using MS SQL Server. I've tried a few approaches, but the time interval logic is giving me a hard time.

    I have managed to track a problem where within eclipse I see no error, but anywhere outside eclipse the error exists. The error I get when run outside eclipse is LazyInitializationException from hibernate - caused by a ${entity.service.id} reference in the jsp. Outside eclipse I have tried jetty standalone, mvn jetty:run from the command line, and tomcat. I've cleaned the projects, disabled workspace dependency etc. I'm using eclipse galileo, m2eclipse 0.9.8.200905041414, jdk 1.6_17, maven 2.1.1 (not embedded), jetty 6.1.22 (standalone and plugin). How is that possible??

  • Time Machine + Ubee Router?

    I can't for the life of me figure this out. I recently had TWC installed in my house, and wanted to disable the NAT and router functions of it. I have a Time Machine hooked up to it from LAN1 (on the Ubee) to the WAN port on the TM. The problems started occurring here. I figured the settings would be these: Ubee Configuration mode: Bridge DHCP: Off TM IPv4: 192.168.100.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Router Address: 192.168.100.1 DNS Servers: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 Router Mode: DHCP and NAT But using those settings, my TM says "Double NAT", so I have to change it all around to the default settings of the Ubee using NAT. This leads me to believe bridge mode doesn't actually turn off NAT...

  • Encode real-time dvb-s stream using mencoder

    My satellite receiver can stream the mpeg-2 video/audio output through lan. Using mencoder, I'm trying to build a script to encode and save the stream in real time with my Core2Duo 1.8 Ghz. Right now, I'm using a single pass, it produces good quality for a video rate of 800Kb/s, but takes more then 95% of CPU power, thus making a lot of frameskips is the computer is used while encoding. mencoder -o -vf lavcdeint -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:q=2:aq=2 -ovc x264 -ffourcc avc1 -x264encopts crf=25:me=hex:subq=9:frameref=2:nocabac:threads=auto -mc 3 So, I'm considering using a 2-pass encoding to alleviate the processor and record 100% of the stream. But I have no idea how to start. For the info: Standard Stream: mpeg-2 720*576 25fps HD Stream: 1920*1080 50fps (this is not my goal to record it, but it will be super cool if I could)

  • Time sync fails on Hyper-V VM, but succeeds when I log in as a domain user

    We have a Windows Server 2003 SP2 VM running on Hyper-V (Server 2008 R2 host). The VM has Hyper-V time synchronization enabled. I noticed that the time on the VM was fast by around 25 minutes. I saw the following in the event log: The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 15 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time. The time provider NtpClient cannot reach or is currently receiving invalid time data from ourdc.ourdomain.local (ntp.d|192.168.2.18:123-192.168.2.2:123). Time Provider NtpClient: No valid response has been received from domain controller ourdc.ourdomain.local after 8 attempts to contact it. This domain controller will be discarded as a time source and NtpClient will attempt to discover a new domain controller from which to synchronize. I had been logged in as a local user. (We have an old app that runs on this VM - it requires a user to be logged in at all times, and we use a non-domain user account for this.) When I logged in as a domain user, the clock almost immediately corrected itself. Running "w32tm /monitor" and "net time" as the domain user showed no errors, and indicated that our domain controller was the time source. Does anyone know what might cause this, and why logging in under a domain account fixes the problem? I'm wondering if the time will start to drift again. Thanks for your help, Richard

  • Time Machine/iMac loses all trace of external hard drive after a few days

    First time posting, also a Mac newbie (recent windows convert) so I'm hoping I can get some help here :) I have a Hitachi Deskstar drive in an external casing that I got from ebuyer. (its one of those unknown fairly cheapish enclosures) connected via firewire. I hook it up and it works fine, but then at some point over the next week or so I'll realise that my last update was 3 days ago or so. At this point the Mac will not recognise the drive as existing and the only thing to do is switch off and on the external enclosure. It then works fine for a while. If I had to guess I'm assuming its powering down or something when the Mac goes into standby? Is there anyway to solve this?
