  • USB mass storage couldn't get mounted

    It's my android phone SD card which was indicated damaged by android yesterday night, out of the blue! I put it directly to a USB port with a USB SD card holder case, so in that way I can recover it with TestDisk, which I had experienced before on a similar situation. I also noticed that there is a change in file system and capacity: File System : RAW Capacity : 0 (unknown capacity) Also TestDisk doesn't show it on its partitions list. A 2 GB SD card is not that important in price but I've a lot of files and medias which I need them. Used a mini card reader, TestDisk displayed it on its list but a quick search and or a deep search doesn't have any results No partition found or selected for recovery and then I should quit the program. Your help is appreciated.   • What's the proper way to calculate probability for a card game?

    I'm creating AI for a card game, and I run into problem calculating the probability of passing/failing the hand when AI needs to start the hand. Cards are A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7 (with A being the strongest) and AI needs to play to not take the hand. Assuming there are 4 cards of the suit left in the game and one is in AI's hand, I need to calculate probability that one of the other players would take the hand. Here's an example: AI player has: J Other 2 players have: A, K, 7 If a single opponent has AK7 then AI would lose. However, if one of the players has A or K without 7, AI would survive. Now, looking at possible distribution, I have: P1 P2 AI --- --- --- AK7 loses AK 7 survives A7 K survives K7 A survives A 7K survives K 7A survives 7 KA survives AK7 loses Looking at this, it seems that there is 75% chance of survival. However, I skipped the permutations that mirror the ones from above. It should be the same, but somehow when I write them all down, it seems that chance is only 50%: P1 P2 AI --- --- --- AK7 loses A7K loses K7A loses KA7 loses 7AK loses 7KA loses AK 7 survives A7 K survives K7 A survives KA 7 survives 7A K survives 7K A survives A K7 survives A 7K survives K 7A survives K A7 survives 7 AK survives 7 KA survives AK7 loses A7K loses K7A loses KA7 loses 7AK loses 7KA loses 12 loses, 12 survivals = 50% chance.   • Which LAN card / module combinations proven to work with Wake on LAN

    I've got a 12.04 headless server that I've been trying to get to work with wake-on-lan. The card is Marvel 88E8053 using the sky2 module. Although WOL is enabled in BIOS and ethtool shows the card as WOL enabled, it refuses to wake when I send the magic packet. I have verified that the packet is being received OK when the machine is on. The machine does wake OK from a BIOS alarm which suggests it is a network card issue. I've seen reference to bugs in sky2 that mean WOL fails in recent versions of Ubuntu (and have tried a module conf file as suggested here but to no avail) So I am thinking the best bet is to replace the ethernet card with one that definitely works with WOL in 12.04 - please could you post your card make and model no if you are using it successfully?

  • Radeon HD5570 HDMI Video Card 5.1 Audio doesn't work

    I am using Ubuntu and XMBC on my HTPC and have chosen the Radeon HD5570 Video card which has an HDMI output. In the sound preferences there is no surround sound option for the video card just stereo and although I can get sound through it in XBMC, my receiver does not state Dolby Digital on movies that are in fact Dolby so its definitely not giving me the true sound it should. Does this card not support surround sound through HDMI and I somehow missed it? If that is the case does anyone have suggestion that has been tested and works? Id like to know its going to work before investing in yet another video card. UPDATE I purchased a Nvidia GeForce GTS 450, plugged it in, downloaded the proprietary driver from the system control panel, disabled the onboard audio from the BIOS (not sure if this was necessary but I did it anyways), and changed the sound settings to use the new video card. Everything works flawlessly. It was a seemless setup.

    Hi People I saw a lot of infos about MMC/SD cards and I tried to make a lib to read this.. (modifying the Procyon Avrlib) But I have some problems here. I Don´t change the original code and tried here. My problem is about the init of SD card. I have 2 here, a 256mb and another 1GB. I send the init commands like this order: CMD0, CMD55, ACMD41, CMD1 But SD 256mb returns me only 0x01 response for each command.. the CMD1 i send a lot of times, SD 256mb always returs only 0x01.. never 0x00. The SD 1GB is more crazy... CMD0 returns with 0x01 ..nice but the CMD55 response with 0x05... another times responde with 0xC1... and another ones response 0xF0 with a 0x5F in the next interation... Around internet have infos and examples, but a bit of confused. Here in my project, I must use 1GB card and I´m trying with a MicroSD with a SD Adapter (I think that this is not the problem). Please any help are apreciate! Regards PS - my problem like the problem from this guy http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2365897/initializing-sd-card-in-spi-issues but his solution don´t solved my problem.. The SD1GB returns only 0x01 ever... :cry:

  • Chainload boot of Ubuntu installed on 32GB SD card from legacy Grub boot on USB

    I have Ubuntu installed on a 32 GB SD card (in the Storage Expansion slot on an Acer Aspire One) with Grub2 installed in the same partition. I boot into legacy Grub on a USB drive and would like to boot by chainloading Grub2 from Grub (kernel/initrd or symlink booting would also be fine), but I haven't figured out how to do this from legacy Grub CLI. Output from blkid for this partition is /dev/mmcblk0p1: LABEL="Ubuntu" UUID="7ceb9fa7-238c-4c5d-bb8e-2c655652ddec" TYPE='ext4" / fdisk -lu information Boot indicator ID 83. Related entries in grub.cfg: search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set-root 7ceb9fa7-238c-4c5d-bb8e-2c655652ddec linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-17-generic root=UUID=7ceb9fa7-238c-4c5d-bb8e-2c655652ddec... initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.5.0-17-generic I can't seem to replicate this in legacy Grub. Is there any way get Grub2 to chainload? How do I set root with UUID in legacy Grub? I prefer to boot from USB. Would Grub2 on USB (copying the grub.cfg generated during installation) be an option?

    I have read that having a dedicated video card (GPU) improves performance if you use your computer to play video games. I guess to make this happen, video games or apps must be using especial libraries designed to share the workload with the GPU, maybe Direct X or OpenGL, I don't know. Am I wrong? So, can HTML5 websites, Adobe Illustrator, Flash games (Zynga games), Skype or Netflix benefit from a dedicated video card? I usually do the previous activities simultaneously. Should I consider changing from an integrated video card to a dedicated card if I want to improve performance? Thanks.

    As I can remember, on old systems (Pentium II or III) it was not possible to boot and run the PC if the graphics card was missing (AGP cards were used in those days). Many years from then, I'm using motherboards with integrated graphics and I have no experience related to this subject, the "graphics card" always was present. Currently I intend to build a home/private "server" for my purposes and most of the motherboards I want to buy have no integrated graphics (AMD 870 or 970). I can take a normal graphics card from my firends for a few hours/days and use it when installing the necessary software. The question is: can I boot and run the PC without problems after I install everything I need and the graphics card is removed? if a general answer cannot be given, at least some examples of manufacturers/MB series/MB models will be helpfull I think it's obvious, but for completeness: I mean cheap desktop components, not real servers.

Therefore, I want to validate the error at the video card by using a video card memory test program. I find one that is used for nvidia card with CUDA support, but my card is Nvidia GeForce 7600 without CUDA support.

  • Wireless card on HP laptop not working

    I just bought an HP Envy m6-1125dx online from Best Buy. When I got it home and started it up, the wireless card did not work well - at all. I could connect, but any real usage would cause the connection to start dropping every 30 seconds or so, and it would be really slow. Taking another look at the reviews on the Best Buy site, it seems only a few others had this problem, so I took it to my local Best Buy and exchanged it for another unit. Got it home again and the card had the same issues. Which leads to my dilemma. First: does this model have several different cards that it could come with? Mine is a Ralink RT5390R (on both units I received). If it does, then I can keep exchanging until I get a unit with a different card. I wouldn't ask this, except it seems weird that only a few people mentioned this issue, so I thought that might be one possibility. I looked in to replacing the card with a different one myself, but it seems that HP blocks certain wireless cards. However, some people reported success in replacing the card, and this site said it was only an issue on "older HP computer[s]". Can anyone confirm this? Finally, if that fails/will not work, does anyone know what I can get through Best Buy? I am concerned that they will not put any different card than the Ralink, and after two of those, I don't want that. Can I ask Best Buy support to use a different card? Can they even get another card from HP? I guess the base question is: should I attempt to replace the card myself (two days via Amazon to get a new card), should I try to get the laptop repaired through Best Buy (two - four weeks), should I go for a different model laptop from Best Buy, or should I try a different unit of the same model (three's the charm?).
