• DJBDNS DNSCache configuration, svscan won't start

  I've been wracking my brain the last few days trying to setup DJBDNS on my server. I haven't been having too much luck. • Unable to record sound from web browser (firefox / chromium ) using recordmydesktop

  I have to do some screencast tutorials and i am using recordmydesktop with gtk frontend to do it. I need to record also the sound and here is where i have found the problem. It took me some time, but now I can record the sound from almost every application in my desktop ... almost. I need to capture some sound from a web application using java, but when i load the page nothing appears in the playback tab of pavucontrol. I think this is the problem, because if there is no sound stream i think the recordmydesktop program thinks there is no sound to record ... the funny thing is that I can ear the sound in my speakers! I have tried with Firefox and Chromium with no success. Although I have been able to record youtube videos without problem, so it seems that java is the key here. Any suggestion or idea? P.S.: I am using Ubuntu 11.10 with this configuration. ( if more information is needed please let me know) sight i cannot post images ... so I have an audigy2 sound card using Analog Stereo Output profile.   I am not able to start Windows and am using a DVD copy of Ubuntu to start up. I see my 750 GB Hard Disk, but if I click it i get this error: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details. After googling for a while I think I need to do sudo apt-get install ntfsprogs but when I try that: E: Package 'ntfsprogs' has no installation candidate My problem is a lot like this thread

• Ubuntu Unable to format 16Gb Usb Disk

  Whenever i try to format my 16 GB usb disk using gparted it does to formating and when it refreshes then show unknown. tried disk utility as well. disk utility was able to format it into FAT but files vanish web the disk is removed and attached again. edit: the disk format completes every time but when using gparted it immediately show Unknown type file system and disk utility show FAT but when the Disk is unplugged and then connected the files are not there. either way it is unusable.

• Unable to print login-required images in IE

  I have some images in a section of a site that require the user to be logged in in order to view. These images are served by a PHP script, which checks the user's login state and if valid, serves the binary data with the appropriate headers. This all works fine. The issue comes when a user tries to print one of these images. In Internet Explorer, when they go to print preview they get the broken image box with a red cross in the corner instead of the actual file. This is what gets printed also. All other browsers can print the images without issue. I have some images elsewhere on the site that are also served via. PHP but these don't require a login. These print fine. The PHP-powered HTML pages on the site that require a login also print fine in IE. It's just login-required images. The user hitting print preview does not seem to result in additional HTTP request to the server for the file. However I do see an additional HTTP request a few seconds later that comes from the same IP (may or may not be related), This request includes no host header, no REQUEST_URI and no user agent. The 'please login' page sends an appropriate 403 header. I've also added a far-in-future expires header to the image response itself to ensure that browsers can serve/print the files from their own cache but this hasn't made any difference. Why can't IE print the images and what else can I do to investigate or fix the problem?

• Dark screen when wake / Unable to control screen brightness

  Running Ubuntu 11.04 on Lenovo ThinkPad with an Nvida graphics card. The unit goes to sleep when the lid is shut. (The unit goes to suspend mode (not to disk/hibernate), AC gets turned off, running on battery) Upon lid-open sometimes the screen is almost too dark to read. I'm really not sure of the exact cause, (very low batt??). The only fix is a reboot. The screen brightness buttons have never worked in Ubuntu. I have messed w/ the power management preferences. No change. At one point I messed w/ the gnome settings. No change. I have tried a few cmds: echo 9>/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=10 xgamma -gamma .75 None of these help. Most have zero effect. I think it is and acpi thing, but that is just a guess. I'm out of idea's, and looking for suggestions. Thanks

  I recently ran the iTunes 10 installer in Wine and everything seemed to go well. Then, when I tried to run it, it would constantly crash/and the appearance would be glitchy. After looking at the Wine website, it turns out that iTunes 10 has a 'garbage' rating of Wine compatability. Now I'm trying to remove/uninstall iTunes, QuickTime, and the other applications that come default with installing iTunes (such as Bonjour, etc.). However, when I run the 'uninstaller' that wine provides for the programs, it instead executes what appears to actually be the original installer! I've tried deleting all the configuration/data files in my Wine's file-system, but to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated! Edit1: After re-running the uninstall process and then rebooting, the program (iTunes 10) still remained installed.

  Ubuntu 10.10, Midori 0.3.2 browser (same problem with Epiphany 2.30.2, Chrome 11.0.686.1 dev; haven't tried with Firefox as yet) Proxychains-3.1 installed, working fine. Here is the deal: when NOT proxychained, Midori or Epiphany can download and open a file (e.g. PDFs from a Google search) in Evince without problem. But when proxychained, neither browser can open PDF files. The message is, "file xxx downloaded". Then it tries to open the file, an indication appears in the status bar, the turning wheel appears, and then nothing. Evince doesn't open. Whats going on here? In both cases (with and without proxychains) files are downloaded to the /tmp folder. They have the same file permissions and ownership. Whats different when proxychained? Why can't the files be opened and why are there no error messages or notifications. Why the silent failure? I don't want to use FF or Chrome. Chrome does not follow my GTK2 customizations and FF is just too resource heavy. Please help.

  I recently acquired a Samsung Series 9-900x3c and installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on it. Now I wanted to upgrade to the most recent kernel and after grabbing the packages from kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and installing them via dpkg Ubuntu fails to boot. I can select the appropriate Kernel version in grub but when I try to launch the Ubuntu with kernel 3.6 nothing happens. On the other hand Kernel 3.2.x works fine for me.   Hi, I'm getting an error when I plug in my 1TB USB external HDD, the wierd thing about this is that it was working fine before and I've been using it for about a couple of months now. yesterday I compressed one of the folders which had about 120GB of data but the compression failed after an hour and I decided to unmount the drive and shut everything down.   If you have recently installed SOA Suite, created a domain and then tried to start it only to find it fails with the error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. the solution is to edit the file <domain home>\bin\setSOADomainEnv.cmd/sh (depending on your platform) and modify the line: set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx1024m to something like: set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx768m Save the file and then try to start your domain again. • android app unable to connect to the hsqldb server

  I am trying to connect my android app to the hsql db server. Server runs on computer-1. I can connect to the db server from local machine through java as well as Db-visualizer. I can connect to the db server from another computer(computer-2) using Db-visualizer with comouter-1 ip address. Now trying to connect from my app in Nexus 7 the same way I was connecting from computer-2. I am getting "No Suitable Driver" error.   I received a software update for Ubuntu 12.10 while using Zorin OS6 wireless. I accepted the update and installed 12.10. Please tell me the step by step, using layman's terms, on how to get Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox to connect to the Internet? I am receiving DNS server error with both browsers. I can connect to my router wired or wireless. I posted and received initial information but was not sure exactly what some of the terms were and or what to do next etc. I am not necessarily familiar with some technical terms, or do I need to install additional plug-ins? I do not know what proxy or DCHP means or what do with these terms please, please help. I am not a programmer, nor do I work in IT. Again please help.

  Im curently running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64Bit So, i installed league of legends fine the first time with the opensource ATI Drivers provided by ubuntu itself with no issues at all, but it runs so slow ... max 20fps because those drivers dont fully support my Dual Graphic cards Than i restored system and i installed the Linux Version of the Proper ATI Drivers from the AMD Website wich supports my APU AMD-A8-4500M with the AMD Radeon 7640G + 7670M Graphics Cards enabling me full performance from my system .. Problem is, to run League of Legends i need a 32bit opengl library, and the driver, automaticly detects a 64bits Linux install and loads the 64bit libraries but not the 32 ones . i need some kind of command, to force the 32bit libraries to load, or to make League of Legends run on the 64 ones .. Im kinda noob to ubuntu .. i installed the 32 bits ones trough terminal and still doesnt work idk why, maybe the driver doesnt want to load them .. plzz help me on this, i dont want to go back to windows just to play league since im noob idk what more details to post here so plz tell me what do you need

• Unable to mount samsung galaxy S3 via USB

  Connecting as either MTP or PTP: neither allows one to see pictures saved as default by phone camera to DCIM folder on external SD card. Similar problems with previous models (e.g. S2) were solvable by 'usb utilities' in wireless & networking settings, but this is no longer present. Other suggestions have mentioned uninstalling various libraries... but i don't wanna just start cutting stuff without knowing it'll help. Any thoughts? Seems like a pretty epic fail from google & samsung. There's not even a linux section on the relevant google site... despite android's usb driver being part of the linux kernel which powers android. Boo!

• SQL SERVER – Unable to DELETE Project in Data Quality Projects (DQS)

  Here is the email which made me write this blog post. When I write a blog post I write keeping in mind that if the developer is not familiar with the concept he will attempt this on the development server. If due to any reason you attempt it on any other server than your personal server, developer should make sure to have complete confidence on his own expertise and understand the risk behind it.  Well, let us read the email which I received. I have modified it a bit to remove information related to organizational and individual. “I just read your blog post on Beginning DQS. I went ahead and followed every single screenshot and it worked fine. I was able to execute the DQS project successfully. However, the same blog post got me in trouble – a serious trouble. After first successful deployment I went ahead and created a few of my own knowledge base and projects. I played around a bit and then decided to get back to real work. Now we had deployed DQS on production server only, so experiment on production server. Now, when I got back to my work, I forgot to close all the windows. My manager found the window open and have seen my test projects. He has asked me to delete my experiments immediately and have said words which I cannot write to you. Here is the problem. I am not able to delete the project which I have created earlier. I am able to open it and play with it but the delete option is disabled and grayed out (see attached image). Now I believe there is nothing wrong with this project as it was just a test project. Would you please write to my manager that it is not harmful to leave that project there as it is? It is also not using any resources. I think he will believe you.” As I said this kind of email makes me uncomfortable. I do not want someone to execute anything on production server. I often write notes and disclaimer on my post when something is dangerous to execute on production server. However, if someone is not expert with SQL Server and attempts something new on production server, I think the major issue is here with the person (admin) who gave new developer permission to production server. This has to be carefully avoided. Here was my response to the individual. “I cannot write to your manager anything as he has not asked me anything. Honestly I believe he is correct in his behavior as you should have not executed anything on the production server without prior approval and testing on the development server. Any R&D must be done on local box or development box. I suggest you request your manager to prevent access to users who does not need access. If he is a good manager, he might have already implemented by now recent event. I also see your screenshot. Here is the issue: While you were playing with project, you might have closed the project half the way, without completing it. Due to the same reason it is locked. You can open and continue from the same place where you have left the project. If you do not need the project any more. Right click on it, click on unlock the project. This will enable the DELETE option and now you can delete the project. Next time, be safe out there. It may be dangerous to have admin access to production server when not needed.“ I have yet not heard from him but I believe he will take my words positively. • Unable to boot ubuntu 11.10 from external usb drive

  I'm new to Ubuntu (and actually all things Linux) as of this morning, so please excuse any stupid mistakes I may be making. I recently bought an external hard drive for my newly built PC (that is running windows 7 if it matters). I would like to install Ubuntu onto the external drive and boot from there. I downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 and made a bootable cd, unplugged my internal HDDs, plugged in the external drive, installed Ubuntu 11.10 on the external drive via the installer, and replugged in my internal HDDs. Then I set my bios boot order to: Boot from USB-HDD - Boot from Hard Disk - Boot from CD/DVD. Now when I restart I get the message "Starting Operating System..." (or something like that, I forget exactly what it says) that lingers on the screen for a moment and then windows starts. Any idea what the problem may be? ~Relevant info~ BIOS version: Award Software International, Inc. F2, 2/22/2011 Ubuntu Version: 11.10 External Hard Drive: Western Digital My Passport Essential 500GB Portable Hard Drive (Black) ~Things I've already tried~ 1) Unplug internal HDDs so that only external drive was plugged in via usb. Same thing happened only obviously my BIOS could not detect any hard drives besides the external one. When booting received error "Could not detect operating system" 2) Formatted external hard drive and re installed. It didn't make a difference, however interestingly when I booted from cd the ubuntu installer said it detected ubuntu 11.10 on the external hard drive. 3) Within BIOS I've messed around with every boot order combo I could think of both in the "Hard Disk boot order" screen and the "Boot order" screen. I'm a little confused of why there are two screens for this. 4) Held F12 during startup which opens (what I think is) the one time boot screen and it gave me the options "Hard Drive", "cd/dvd", "USB-FDD", "USB-cdrom", "USB-HDD", and "USB-something else I can't remember what it was". I tried all of them, but the same thing as before happened each time. ~References~ I noticed several people on askubuntu have tried to do something similar if not the exact same. In fact, I even found a post that pretty much outlines step by step exactly what I did... only their's worked. /jealous. Linky: Install Ubuntu or Kubuntu on a External USB Drive I'm willing to try a different version of ubuntu - it's not like my heart is set on 11.10, but it's a pain to open my case and unplug my internal hard drives so I'd prefer not to do this unless someone is reasonably confident it'll work. • Unable to remove the lock by normal means

  I've been installing ubuntu restricted extras via the software center. Everything was going well at first, but then the installation process froze on 'applying changes' stage. I've had this in the past already, and usually just hitting the 'cancel' button helped, but not this time. Obviously, the install process has placed a lock, and I couldn't issue any apt-get commands. then i've tried doing what was suggested here Fixing Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock : sudo fuser -cuk /var/lib/dpkg/lock; sudo rm -f /var/lib/dpkg/lock but it seemed to me that it has only killed my X server. Okay, i've just pressed the power button on my PC, and restarted, hoping that the lock was finally off and i could reinstall the stuff. No dice. when I open the software center, I still have one operation in process, a weird one: " Searching | Cancelling ". The 'cancel' button is either inactive, or it just does nothing. So I've become desperate and decided to write here. How do I fix the problem? Can't install anything on a fresh ubuntu 12.04 :) Thanks in advance
