• Different nginx rules based on referrer

  I'm using WordPress with WP Super Cache. I want visitors who come from Google (That inlcudes all country specific referrers like google.co.in, google.co.uk and etc.) to see uncached contents. • MySQL encoding problem after site move

  Guys, I need your help. Since last month my friend has lost his database on Dreamhost, he decided to move his wordpress based blog site (written in Chinese) to my server. He's using a wp-plugin called wp-db-backup to perform regular db backups. And the servers backgrounds are: Dreamhost: Linux 2.6.31.5-modsign-aufs2-grsec-2-opt mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.16, for pc-linux-gnu (i386) using readline 5.0 apache2 unknown version My Server: Linux li159-46 2.6.32.12-x86_64-linode12 mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.45, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 6.1 nginx 0.8.36 His site's encoding was UTF-8 in both wp-config and db. I imported his db backup file in UTF-8 by default, then I sync'd files using rsync from dreamhost, then I just changed the db address and nothing more. But when I take first look at the "new" site, it was full of unreadable characters, I met this problem before, I changed charset options in browser but none of them can make it displayed properly. Then I converted his db to GB18030, it works with only if browser set charset to GB18030 either GBK, but by default they recognize the charset as UTF-8. I tried to edit the headers but it doesn't work. What could I do now? Thx~~

• Using proxy.pac to access Apache 2 with a hostname?

  Note that I do not have a DNS on my network, and that is why I am resorting to using a proxy.pac file. I would like to be able to access my development Apache 2 server using a name instead of an ip without setting up a full blown DNS. I am aware of setting names in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file and the /etc/hosts files, however I cannot edit the hosts file on all of the devices that I am testing the site on. I've added a proxy.pac file to my Apache2 server and pointed my browsers settings to it at: http://192.168.2.221/proxyutils/proxy.pac ...where 192.168.2.221 is thehostname's ip address. I set the above URL in Firefox in the following manner: From the menubar selecting "Edit-Preferences" In the resulting "Firefox Preferences" window clicking the "Advanced" tab. Clicking the "Network" tab Clicking the "Settings" button. Selecting the "Automatic proxy configuration URL:" radio button. Entering http://192.168.2.221/proxyutils/proxy.pac and pressing OK. The contents of the proxy.pac file on the Apache server function FindProxyForURL(url, host) { if( dnsDomainIs(host, "thehostname") ) return "PROXY 192.168.2.221:80"; return "DIRECT"; } In Firefox I then access the following URL: http://thehostname/wp-blog/ And instead of the development version of the Wordpress blog I am trying to access I get a URL of http://thehostnamehttp/thehostname/wp-blog/ in my address bar and a 404 Not Found page in the browser window. Looking over proxy.pac, it seems like calling dnsDomainIs shouldn't work considering I don't have a DNS setup on my network, but I've also tried just comparing the host argument with the string "hostname" and it yielded the same result, even after modifying the proxy.pac file and clicking the reload button near the proxy settings. This could also be a Wordpress problem, since I've noticed that directories without Wordpress seem to function perfectly normally. (see cross post here) Is there any way I can modify my configuration so that I can access the site using http://thehostname/wp-blog/ ?

• .htaccess redirect to error page if port is not 80

  I'm running a portable server through usb stick. The thing is I also have WAMP installed in my local machine and Apache somehow gets started on windows startup, because of some random reason which I don't recall now and it can't be changed. I want to prepare my portable server in situations like this, so closing httpd.exe from process and starting my portable server is not an option. Anyway, because of already active httpd.exe my portable server's WordPress site can only be accessed through localhost:81 - this is a problem as WP site is very dependent on the URL and I don't want to include the url with port on WP database. Here is what I want to do through .htaccess: On any path except for error.php file check if not port 80 If not port 80 redirect to /error.php?code=port It it possible for it to have priority over WP redirection or URL handling? In the error.php I provided info on how to manually close httpd.exe and such so my family and friends can access the portable site. It's sort of like a gallery and calender application for events and other such stuff... Please help? I'm I can't figure it out at all. I know others may not have apache already running, but I want to prepare for such a situation. • Apache directory authorization bug (clicking cancel gives acces to partial content)

  I got a minor problem (as the site is not high priority) but still a very interesting one. I have an apache root domain wherein other sites live "/var/www/" And I have foo.example.com forwarding to "/var/www/foo-example" (wordpress site) The problem here is that when you go to foo.example.com you are prompted to enter credentials. If you hit cancel it gives you the access denied page. But when you go to the servers' direct IP (this gives you the default index page) and hit cancel when prompted for credentials it just keeps giving you the login screen, and after pressing cancel a few times more it gives (a perhaps cached) bare html part of the page. How do I prevent this from happening? Perhaps this is a bug... Even if I would block access to the root directory when going to the ip/foo-example it would still do this. And I want to keep all the directories within the www directory or at least all in the same. • Can't access WordPress blog after host changed IP address of server

  My host changed servers and all websites now have a new IP address. I have the same domain name and I assume the host runs the same nameservers, though my host and domain name provider are different. Notes: I never entered a Name or description under General/Settings for my blog. I left them both blank. That is when I could log into it. The wp-config file, has localhost entered rather than a specific IP. Again this has always been the case and my host never advised otherwise. I can get into cPanel by simply putting the newly advised IP in front of /Cpanel. However, I can not reach the admin panel of my WordPress blog (version 2.8.2). I had been loggin into it via http://xx.xx.xxx.xx/~example/blog/wp-login.php. My host suggested to simply insert the new IP in place of the old one. I still get the error message: 404 Not Found The server can not find the requested page: Apache/2.0.63 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.0.63 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/5.2.12 Server at 74.50.108.14 Port 80 I followed some tips on a question on Stack Overflow of a similar nature. I have logged into phpMyAdmin and found the wp-options table and searched for SELECT * FROM `wp_options` WHERE `option_name` IN ('siteurl', 'home') Only option ID 39 came up and the results are: Home has optionvalue http://example.org siteurl has optionvalue http://example.org/blog Both of which appear correct. Is there any part of the MySQL tables where I can change an actual IP address? Or is there something else you can advise?

• nginx giving of 404 when using set in an if-block

  I've just started using nginx and I'm now trying to make it play nice with the Wordpress plugin WP-SuperCache which adds static files of my blog posts. To serve the static file I need to make sure that some cookies aren't set, that it's not a POST-request and making sure the cached/static file exist. I found this guide and it seems like a good fit. But I've noticed that as soon as I try to set something inside an if my site starta giving 404s on an URL that isn't rewritten.   I have configured my first server (Debian with ISPConfig). Generally i want to send bulk e-mails to our users, i configure postfix and turn on postfix... but... • How to install wordpress without a web browser

  What I am trying to do is to automate wordpress website creation for the company I am working on. We have lots of information in our database for our customers and we want to create a wordpress website for each customer. The process works great and we have no trouble with the creation of websites/transfer of data or anything like that. The problem we do have is when we buy a new domain (http://www.newdomain.com) our process breaks (we call a stored procedure which installs all the data after the URL is called to install wordpress) if the domain takes more than 15min to resolve. We have tried doing looping (where the process checks to see if the domain resolves and keeps trying - but eventually if fails). So what we are looking for is to see if there is a way to install an URL without actually having the domain resolve yet. I have seen where possibilities where you can change the wp-config file but this doesn't work since we have more than one domain and it changes the source URL for all the domains. What we really need is just a way for us to manually start the install script through a call either through a database or some other way that doesn't check to see if the domain is resolved or pointing at the server or not. • What is the name of the this DOS font? Where and how to add it? Why is there a 1 pixel gap?

  So basically I somehow stepped into this webpage: www.braindamage.vg And the first thing that hit me hard was the lovely DOS fonts, so naturally I wanted to get them into my IDE badly. Opened the html source file and CSS file to find the font name: @font-face { font-family: 'Perfect DOS VGA 437'; src: url('http://www.braindamage.vg/wp-content/themes/braindamage/dosfont.eot'); } @font-face { font-family: 'Perfect DOS VGA 437'; src: url('http://www.braindamage.vg/wp-content/themes/braindamage/dosfont.svg#dos') format("svg"), url('http://www.braindamage.vg/wp-content/themes/braindamage/dosfont.ttf') format ('truetype'); } So I download the font, add it using Control Panel - Fonts. But once I start using it (notepad, MSVS 2008 & MSVS2010) I notice that it looks slightly off: It seems like there's 1 extra pixel between each character. How it should look: What is causing it and how to fix this? Is it the windows XP? (i have disabled font smoothing) Or is there something wrong with the font file?

This is due to the old host having the following path for images: http://www.example.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/imagename.jpg The new host uses a different layout and has this path for the file: http://www.example.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/imagename.jpg 'Blog' has been removed. Does anyone know the easiest way to fix this issue?

• jquery 1.4.1 breaks my slideshow

  After toying with the jquery slideshow extension, I created my own that better suited my purposes ( I didn't like that all the images needed to load at the beginning for instance). Now, upon upgrading to jQuery 1.4.2 (I know I'm late), the slideshow loads the first image fine ( from the line$('div#slideshow img#ssone').fadeIn(1500); towards the bottom), but doesn't do anything beyond that. Does anyone have any idea which jquery construct is killing my script? The live page is at lplonline.org which is using 1.3.2 for the time being. Thanks in advance. • Wordpress Install on OS X Snow-Leopard under Sites/public for use with capistrano

  I would like to put my local OS X wordpress site in my ~users/Sites/public directory, instead of the ~users/Sites so i can properly setup a capistrano deployment. When i try this i can visit the site locally by visiting http://localhost/public and everything looks and works great but if i ever try to go to http://localhost/public/wp-admin to administer my local copy of wordpress it tries to redirect me back to http://localhost/wp-admin which doesn't exist. Do you know how I might be able to work around this problem?

• Wordpress installed in root folder, subdomain now not working, GoDaddy host

  Hi, please forgive me for being a complete beginner at this, I'd rather not have to try to deal with this myself but as GoDaddy support have not replied after 2 days I'm going to have to. I think my problem is the same as the one above, but I'm not 100% sure, so I'm reposting it, I'm not really confident enough to attempt to try the fixes I've seen here so I need someone to give me baby instructions? Our original website (www.mwpics.com.au) was built in Dreamweaver etc, recently we created a new website in Wordpress, in a subdomain, then migrated it over to the root folder where it is now operating fine. I also moved the files for the old website into another directory which I called 'old', so they're all still there. The problem is that I have a subdomain set up - which is still showing as set up in the control panel on godaddy the url is www.mwpics.com.au/clients and it is at www.clients.mwpics.com.au. This directory contains loads of other directories, each of which is password protected by .htaccess files and which our clients access directly (not through the site) to download their finished work. The test one and the one for random clients is www.mwpics.com.au/clients/temp - username and password both temp (the usernames are all the same as the directory names). Since the WP install to the root directory the /clients extension no longer works (it should bring up an information page which is an .html index page in the directory) and the /clients/name extensions no longer works - it goes back to the wp site with a 'not found' error message. Strangely it does bring up the box for the username and password, but when you enter it it just goes back to the 'not found' message. Someone told me it was the .htaccess file - so as an experiment, I renamed the .htaccess file in the root directory and then copied the .htaccess file from the old root files into the root directory, eureka! It worked - and also the WP site opened to the home page... but bummer - the /pages in the WP site now no longer worked! But at least I know the source of the problem. So I switched it back and this is the status quo - I have no idea how to fix this, and with everyone back at work tomorrow, clients are going to want to start downloading their stuff... Can anyone help me? I'm starting to panic a bit

• No image displayed in Fancybox

  I am having trouble getting fancybox to display its corresponding images on a website that I'm building http://www.nomadicdrift.com/test/kaniwa#events . It's a custom one page portfolio theme that I set up on the WordPress platform. If you follow the link to the events section you will see 1 figure item in a gallery like position. I have this image set up to work as a fancybox gallery, but when you click on it, it opens up the fancybox interface but does not place a image in the frame, even though it should. So this is the problem...the images do not show up in fancybox and instead I see just the frame. I have also successfully used this same markup for a one thumbnail fancybox gallery on another site. I thought maybe it was due to some conflict in the .js files I'm using. I tried uninstalling all of my plugins/addons (which aren't too many) one by one and still had the same result. I have all of my personal javascript in the functions.js file, which is where I call the fancybox plugin using the standard $("a.fancybox").fancybox();. I have installed this plugin before on other sites and have searched extensively for an answer, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sean

• Adding a Taxonomy Filter to a Custom Post Type

  There is an amazing conversation from about two years ago on the Wordpress Answer site where a number of people came up with good solutions for adding a taxonomy filter to the admin screen for your custom post types (see URL for screen I'm referring to): http://[yoursite.com]/wp-admin/edit.php?s&post_status=all&post_type=[post-type] Anyway, I loved Michael's awesome contribution but in the end used Somatic's implementation with the hierarchy option from Manny. I wrapped it in a class - cuz that's how I like to do things -- and it ALMOST works. The dropdown appears but the values in the dropdown are all looking in the $_GET property for the taxonomies slug-name that you are filtering by. For some reason I don't get anything. I looked at the HTML of the dropdown and it appears ok to me. Here's a quick screen shot for some context: You can tell from this that my post-type is called "exercise" and that the Taxonomy I'm trying to use as a filter is "actions". Here then is the HTML surrounding the dropdown list: <select name="actions" id="actions" class="postform"> <option value="">Show all Actions</option> <option value="ate-dinner">Ate dinner(1)</option> <option value="went-running">Went running(1)</option> </select> I have also confirmed that all of the form elements are within the part of the DOM. And yet if I choose "Went running" and click on the filter button the URL query string comes back without ANY reference to what i've picked. More explicitly, the page first loads with the following URL: /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=exercise and after pressing the filter button while having picked "Went Running" as an option from the actions filter: /wp-admin/edit.php?s&post_status=all&post_type=exercise&action=-1&m=0&actions&paged=1&mode=list&action2=-1 actually you can see a reference to an "actions" variable but it's set to nothing and as I now look in detail it appears that the moment I hit "filter" on the page it resets the filter dropdown to the default "Show All Actions". Can anyone help me with this?
