  • Using views as a data interface between modules in a database

    Hello, I am working on the database layout of a straighforward small database in Mysql. We want to modularize this system in order to have more flexiblity for different implementations we are going to make. Now, the idea was to have one module in the database (simple a group of tables with constraints between them) pass its data to the next module via views. In this way, changes in one module would not affect the other ones, as we can make sure in the view that the right data is present there at any time, although the underlying structure of tables might be different. The structure of the App handling the database would likewise be modularized. Is this something that is sometimes done? On a technical side, as I understand views can't have primary keys - how would I then adress such a view? What other issues should be considered?

    I'm trying to implement unit tests for function that uses imported external objects. For example helpers.py is: import os import pylons def some_func(arg): ... var1 = os.path.exist(...) var2 = os.path.getmtime(...) var3 = pylons.request.environ['HTTP_HOST'] ... So when I'm creating unit test for it I do some mocking (minimock in my case) and replacing references to pylons.request and os.path: import helpers def test_some_func(): helpers.pylons.request = minimock.Mock("pylons.request") helpers.pylons.request.environ = { 'HTTP_HOST': "localhost" } helpers.os.path = minimock.Mock(....) ... some_func(...) # assert ... This does not look good for me. Is there any other better way or strategy to substitute imported function/objects in Python?

    I'm new to AngularJS. In my efforts to learn, I've relied on the AngularJS tutorials. Now, I'm trying to build an app using the AngularSeed project template. I'm trying to make my project as modular as possible. For that reason, my controllers are broken out into several files. It feels like I need to have my controllers in a module and pass that module in my app.config in the app.js file. However, a) I'm not sure if that allowed and b) I'm not sure how to do it.

  • importing modules in app engine

    Ive asked this before, but it seems i wasnt clear/detailed enough and after a week of trying im still struggling so i will try again. i am trying to use, oauth2 and ply on app engine. i have tried copying their directories into my app engine project directory (in the form ply-3.4 or brosner-python-oauth2-82a05f9) and i have tried copying the specific sub directory contained within the aforemention one. (ply or oauth2) i have tried saying import oauth2, from brosner-oauth2_python-82a05f9 import oauth and other variations on the theme, but i still cant get it to work nothing has worked. i have tried including them in app.yaml, but that seemed to create an even bigger error as my entire project wouldnt even run when i tried that. and now i have run out of things to try. the error log i am getting is as follows. I've downloaded it and placed it on the box and would just like to 'import' or 'include' the module without installing it first. - Is this possible? From the looks of it (Sybase ASE) it needs some type of compilation before use. Is it possible for this type of work around?

    Hi, I have to make a web application using GWT. The project has a core module that'll expose a set of apis to be used by other apps; each of these app are unrelated. Each shall be loaded in a separate iframe. My idea was to compile core into core.js and each app shall have its own app1.js app2.js and so on... App1 script type="text/javascript" src="core.js" ></script> script type="text/javascript" src="app1.js" ></script> with this design, due to browser caching, each app laod only the app.js which should be smaller ~20kb in size. Making a core module is straightforward but the apps are problematic. The reason being after compilation, each app contains the entire GWT library - this substantially increases the download size of the complete webapp. Can anyone suggest a way to get aroung this problem ? I've checked similar questions on SO, but failed to find a simple working answer fr the problem. Thanks for any help.

    I need to write a perl script to scrape a website. The website can only be scraped with JavaScript, and the user is on Windows. I got some way with Win32::IE::Mechanize on my work machine, which has IE6, but then I moved to my netbook which has IE8, and can't even get as far as fetching a simple page. Is Win32::IE::Mechanize up to date with the latest versions of IE? But, tl,dr -- more to the point, given a recent WinXP machine, what's the quickest, easiest way to scrape a site which only reveals its content via JavaScript?

That is, in my default module, the following is bindConstant().annotatedWith(Names.named("number of players")).to(4); but in testing, I'd like to try this line instead: bindConstant().annotatedWith(Names.named("number of players")).to(2); Id like to achieve that without copying all of the rest of the module. What I really want is a "default" module that is "below" a more specialized module, such that in case of conflict, the specialized module wins (instead of throwing an exception, which is what guice does). In essence, my question is: how does anybody arrange for more than one module without lots of code duplication?

    Hi all. I have a contact manager program that I'd like to design for multiple network marketing companies. My desired structure would include a core program which covers basic contact management functions. After that one could purchase a module for their specific network marketing company. This module would contain a variety of controls that the original program would need to be able to manipulate. Here is an example of what it would have to have: A group box containing buttons that link to a genealogy view, and the option to import one's donwnline from the back office provided by a company. A panel which is displayed on the contact page allowing the user to input business information or which will be filled by importing a downline from the back office: ie business ID, qualification level, sponsor information etc. a panel displayed when one searches for contacts on the contact list page which allows the user to sort based on information such as when they joined, what their business id is and so forth. a panel which is displayed in a personal business overview page which presents to an individual how many people in their downline are at each qualification level and develop a mailing list for individuals of a certain qualification level. I have the code developed to perform all these functions, I just wanted to give you an example of what needed to be done. I'm thinking that what I'm trying to create is a library that one can download and the program will recognize, but I'm not really sure where to go. What I'm really trying to do is figure out what kind of file I can make that will contain all this code and the GUI information that the program will recognize. Any ideas? With thanks, John

  • Keeping connection to APNs open on App Engine using Modules in Go

    I'm trying to implement iOS push notifications for a messageboard app I've written (so like notification for new message ect. ect.) but have no real idea where to start. Alot the current documentation seems to be out of date in regard to keeping persistent TLS connections open to the APNs from App Engine and links to articles about depreciated backends I'm using the Go runtime and just keep getting stuck. For instance, the creation of the socket connection to APNs requires a Context which can only be got from a HTTP request, but architecturally this doesn't seem to make a lot of sense because ideally the socket remains open regardless. Is there any clearer guides around that I'm missing or right now is it a better idea to setup a separate VPS or compute instance to handle it?

    I have some experience with C#, and would like to improve my knowledge of its latest improvements. I am in the middle of reading and enjoying "Effective C#" by Bill Wagner right now. However, I would appreciate more examples, especially with lambda expressions and such. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. High quality resources are preferable, and it does not matter much if they are free or not.
