  • Can you do Logic Programming in Scala?

    - by Alex R
I read somewhere that Pattern Matching like that supported by the match/case feature in Scala was actually borrowed from Logic languages like Prolog. Can you use Scala to elegantly solve problems like the Connected Graph problem? e.g. https://www.csupomona.edu/~jrfisher/www/prolog_tutorial/2_15.html

  • WPF, how can I optimize lines and circles drawing ?

    - by Aurélien Ribon
    Hello ! I am developping an application where I need to draw a graph on the screen. For this purpose, I use a Canvas and I put Controls on it. An example of such a draw as shown in the app can be found here : http://free0.hiboox.com/images/1610/d82e0b7cc3521071ede601d3542c7bc5.png It works fine for simple graphs, but I also want to be able to draw very large graphs (hundreds of nodes). And when I try to draw a very large graph, it takes a LOT of time to render. My problem is that the code is not optimized at all, I just wanted it to work. Until now, I have a Canvas on the one hand, and multiple Controls on the other hands. Actually, circles and lines are listed in collections, and for each item of these collections, I use a ControlTemplate, defining a red circle, a black circle, a line, etc. Here is an example, the definition of a graph circle : <!-- STYLE : DISPLAY DATA NODE --> <Style TargetType="{x:Type flow.elements:DisplayNode}"> <Setter Property="Canvas.Left" Value="{Binding X, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" /> <Setter Property="Canvas.Top" Value="{Binding Y, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" /> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type flow.elements:DisplayNode}"> <!--TEMPLATE--> <Grid x:Name="grid" Margin="-30,-30,0,0"> <Ellipse x:Name="selectionEllipse" StrokeThickness="0" Width="60" Height="60" Opacity="0" IsHitTestVisible="False"> <Ellipse.Fill> <RadialGradientBrush> <GradientStop Color="Black" Offset="0.398" /> <GradientStop Offset="1" /> </RadialGradientBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> </Ellipse> <Ellipse Stroke="Black" Width="30" Height="30" x:Name="ellipse"> <Ellipse.Fill> <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="White" /> <GradientStop Offset="1.5" Color="LightGray" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> </Ellipse> <TextBlock x:Name="tblock" Text="{Binding NodeName, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Mode=TemplatedParent}}" Foreground="Black" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" FontSize="10.667" /> </Grid> <!--TRIGGERS--> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <!--DATAINPUT--> <MultiTrigger> <MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Property="SkinMode" Value="NODETYPE" /> <Condition Property="NodeType" Value="DATAINPUT" /> </MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Setter TargetName="tblock" Property="Foreground" Value="White" /> <Setter TargetName="ellipse" Property="Fill"> <Setter.Value> <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientStop Offset="-0.5" Color="White" /> <GradientStop Offset="1" Color="Black" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </MultiTrigger> <!--DATAOUTPUT--> <MultiTrigger> <MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Property="SkinMode" Value="NODETYPE" /> <Condition Property="NodeType" Value="DATAOUTPUT" /> </MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Setter TargetName="tblock" Property="Foreground" Value="White" /> <Setter TargetName="ellipse" Property="Fill"> <Setter.Value> <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientStop Offset="-0.5" Color="White" /> <GradientStop Offset="1" Color="Black" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </MultiTrigger> ....... THERE IS A TOTAL OF 7 MULTITRIGGERS ....... </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> Also, the lines are drawn using the Line Control. <!-- STYLE : DISPLAY LINK --> <Style TargetType="{x:Type flow.elements:DisplayLink}"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type flow.elements:DisplayLink}"> <!--TEMPLATE--> <Line X1="{Binding X1, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}" X2="{Binding X2, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}" Y1="{Binding Y1, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}" Y2="{Binding Y2, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}" Stroke="Gray" StrokeThickness="2" x:Name="line" /> <!--TRIGGERS--> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <!--BRANCH : ASSERTION--> <MultiTrigger> <MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Property="SkinMode" Value="BRANCHTYPE" /> <Condition Property="BranchType" Value="ASSERTION" /> </MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Setter TargetName="line" Property="Stroke" Value="#E0E0E0" /> </MultiTrigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> So, I need your advices. How can I drastically improve the rendering performances ? Should I define each MultiTrigger circle rendering possibility in its own ControlTemplate instead ? Is there a better line drawing technique ? Should I open a DrawingContext and draw everything in one control, instead of having hundreds of controls ?

  • Managing the interval for horizontal axis in flex

    - by Roshan
Hi Guys, How can we manage the horizontalaxis interval in flex chart? What actually happening is , the data is inserted between two interval levels and its causing readability problem when we draw line grids in graph. The data point is shown in between the data grids. How can we move the axis or manage the data points?

  • iPhone: CPU power to do DSP/Fourier transform/frequency domain?

    - by mahboudz
I want to analyze MIC audio on an ongoing basis (not just a snipper or prerecorded sample), and display frequency graph and filter out certain aspects of the audio. Is the iPhone powerful enough for that? I suspect the answer is a yes, given the Google and iPhone voice recognition, Shazaam and other music recognition apps, and guitar tuner apps out there. However, I don't know what limitations I'll have to deal with. Anyone play around with this area?

  • Fixing up an entity framework query

    - by vdh_ant
My table structure is as follows: Person 1-M PesonAddress Person 1-M PesonPhone Person 1-M PesonEmail Person 1-M Contract Contract M-M Program Contract M-1 Organization At the end of this query I need a populated object graph where each person has their: PesonAddress's PesonPhone's PesonEmail's PesonPhone's Contract's - and this has its respective Program's Now I had the following query and I thought that it was working great, but it has a couple of problems: from people in ctx.People.Include("PersonAddress") .Include("PersonLandline") .Include("PersonMobile") .Include("PersonEmail") .Include("Contract") .Include("Contract.Program") where people.Contract.Any( contract => (param.OrganizationId == contract.OrganizationId) && contract.Program.Any( contractProgram => (param.ProgramId == contractProgram.ProgramId))) select people; The problem is that it filters the person to the criteria but not the Contracts or the Contract's Programs. It brings back all Contracts that each person has not just the ones that have an OrganizationId of x and the same goes for each of those Contract's Programs respectively. What I want is only the people that have at least one contract with an OrgId of x with and where that contract has a Program with the Id of y... and for the object graph that is returned to have only the contracts that match and programs within that contract that match. I kinda understand why its not working, but I don't know how to change it so it is working... This is my attempt thus far: from people in ctx.People.Include("PersonAddress") .Include("PersonLandline") .Include("PersonMobile") .Include("PersonEmail") .Include("Contract") .Include("Contract.Program") let currentContracts = from contract in people.Contract where (param.OrganizationId == contract.OrganizationId) select contract let currentContractPrograms = from contractProgram in currentContracts let temp = from x in contractProgram.Program where (param.ProgramId == contractProgram.ProgramId) select x where temp.Any() select temp where currentContracts.Any() && currentContractPrograms.Any() select new Person { PersonId = people.PersonId, FirstName = people.FirstName, ..., ...., MiddleName = people.MiddleName, Surname = people.Surname, ..., ...., Gender = people.Gender, DateOfBirth = people.DateOfBirth, ..., ...., Contract = currentContracts, ... }; //This doesn't work But this has several problems (where the Person type is an EF object): I am left to do the mapping by myself, which in this case there is quite a lot to map When ever I try to map a list to a property (i.e. Scholarship = currentScholarships) it says I can't because IEnumerable is trying to be cast to EntityCollection Include doesn't work Hence how do I get this to work. Keeping in mind that I am trying to do this as a compiled query so I think that means anonymous types are out.

  • Having problem with decimal points in MS Excel 2007

    - by Eishita
I want to generate a graph with a large decimal number like -106.63633167743683 or 52.132235169410706. But whenever I'm entering the value in Excel sheet it is giving me value like -106.63633167743600 (as I have formatted cell with 15 decimal places). It is replacing the value of last two digits by 0. Can anyone help regarding this please?

  • Anybody using Qi4J

    - by Jon
I was reading an InfoQ article on Composite Oriented Programming earlier on: http://www.infoq.com/articles/Composite-Programming-Qi4j I was interested in finding out whether anybody is currently using (or has used) the Qi4j framework at all? How does it compares to using a traditional dependency injection framework such as Spring for wiring classes together. Is the resulting object graph (based on mixins rather than classes) easier to deal with from a maintenance point of view?

  • LINQ to XML, a problem conceptualizing how the tree should look.

    - by snark
Have you ever had one of those days when you've dug a hole but your so deep in now that the only option is to keep on digging and see where you come out? I thought just for giggles in the latest component I'm writing to use LINQ to XML because it was about time I saw what all the hooplah was about. The problem: I am making a graph component that contains series of data that get graphed and then you can apply a formula to that series and graph another series then apply a formula to that series and so on. So I figured that I would do so in 2 steps, create (and manage) an XML representaion of the series and how they relate to each other, then pass this xml to a draw engine which draws. Conceptually its a tree, with the exception of the root all child series being based upon a parent (1 parent can have many children. So I should always be adding child nodes to their parent and if I delete a node(series) then I can simply delete the series and its descendants (then draw) and voila all the messy iterating through each node finding parents and children is unneccessary. Trouble is I dont know how to represent this tree in XML i.e. the structure. My first attempt saw me programatically adding each series as siblings, which worked like a treat because I ended up with an ordered list and thus my order of rendering was maintained. I had this <Chart> <Series id="1">seriesText1</Series> <Series id="2">seriesText2</Series> <Series id="3">seriesText3</Series> <Series id="4">seriesText4</Series> </Chart> I'm in a muddle now ... how can I represent a series and a series that has children series. If some-one can give me a hint to how my tree should look (perhaps with a snippet on how to programatically add nodes to their parents) All the examples I have read usually have some container elements such as <ContactS> or <BookS> but my head says I have <series> some of them parent some of them children. Would appreciate a nudge in the right direction.

  • iteratively creating graphs

    - by Andrei
I have a bunch of files containing x and y coordinates, representing time and value (space-separated, but can be amended) For example: 15:06:59 0.0140 ....... I want to create a word file (or some equivalent) to show all these graphs. Right now I am using Excel. It pretty daunting task, as I ahve to plug paste numbers in two rows for each graph, and I have many of them. Thanks

  • Can I use MSBUILD to investigate which dependency causes a source unit to be recompiled?

    - by Seb Rose
I have a legacy C++ application with a deep graph of #includes. Changes to any header file often cause recompiles of seemingly unrelated source files. The application is built using a Visual Studio 2005 solution (sln) file. Can MSBUILD be invoked in a way that it reports which dependency(ies) are causing a source file to be recompiled? Is there any other tool that might be able to help?

  • Why my application ask for a codec to pla the MVI(.MOV) video files while i can play them on WMP and QuickTime?

    - by Daniel Lip
I have an application i did some time ago when im loading the video file its ok when trying to play/use the file im getting the messageBox message say that its need a codec to use gspot or search the internet. Wehn im playing this files on my hard disk with Windows Media Play or either QuickTime there is no problems. The Video files for example name are: MVI_2483 in the file name properties i see its type: Quick Time Movie (.MOV) In my application im using DirectShowLib-2005.dll this is the class im using in my case to extract the video file im using it in my application to extract only lightnings from the video file name. In Form1 i have a button click event that just starting the action: private void button8_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { viewToolStripMenuItem.Enabled = false; fileToolStripMenuItem.Enabled = false; button2.Enabled = false; label14.Visible = false; label15.Visible = false; label21.Visible = false; label22.Visible = false; label24.Visible = false; label25.Visible = false; ExtractAutomatic = true; DirectoryInfo info = new DirectoryInfo(_videoFile); string dirName = info.Name; automaticModeDirectory = dirName + "_Automatic"; subDirectoryName = _outputDir + "\\" + automaticModeDirectory; if (secondPass == true) { Start(true); } Start(false); } This is the function start in Form1: private void Start(bool secondpass) { setpicture(-1); if (Directory.Exists(_outputDir) && secondpass == false) { } else { Directory.CreateDirectory(_outputDir); } if (ExtractAutomatic == true) { string subDirectory_Automatic_Name = _outputDir + "\\" + automaticModeDirectory; Directory.CreateDirectory(subDirectory_Automatic_Name); f = new WmvAdapter(_videoFile, Path.Combine(subDirectory_Automatic_Name)); } else { string subDirectory_Manual_Name; if (Directory.Exists(subDirectoryName)) { subDirectory_Manual_Name = subDirectoryName; f = new WmvAdapter(_videoFile, Path.Combine(subDirectory_Manual_Name)); } else { subDirectory_Manual_Name = _outputDir + "\\" + averagesListTextFileDirectory + "_Manual"; Directory.CreateDirectory(subDirectory_Manual_Name); f = new WmvAdapter(_videoFile, Path.Combine(subDirectory_Manual_Name)); } } button1.Enabled = false; f.Secondpass = secondpass; f.FramesToSave = _fts; f.FrameCountAvailable += new WmvAdapter.FrameCountEventHandler(f_FrameCountAvailable); f.StatusChanged += new WmvAdapter.EventHandler(f_StatusChanged); f.ProgressChanged += new WmvAdapter.ProgressEventHandler(f_ProgressChanged); this.Text = "Processing Please Wait..."; label5.ForeColor = Color.Green; label5.Text = "Processing Please Wait"; button8.Enabled = false; button5.Enabled = false; label5.Visible = true; pictureBox1.Image = Lightnings_Extractor.Properties.Resources.Weather_Michmoret; Hrs = 0; //number of hours Min = 0; //number of Minutes Sec = 0; //number of Sec timeElapsed = 0; label10.Text = "00:00:00"; label11.Visible = false; label12.Visible = false; label9.Visible = false; label8.Visible = false; this.button1.Enabled = false; myTrackPanelss1.trackBar1.Enabled = false; this.checkBox2.Enabled = false; this.checkBox1.Enabled = false; numericUpDown1.Enabled = false; timer1.Start(); label2.Text = ""; label1.Visible = true; label2.Visible = true; label3.Visible = true; label4.Visible = true; f.Start(); } And this is the class wich is not my oqn class i just just defined it in some places wich making the problem: using System; using System.Diagnostics; using System.Drawing; using System.Drawing.Imaging; using System.IO; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using DirectShowLib; using System.Collections.Generic; using Extracting_Frames; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace Polkan.DataSource { internal class WmvAdapter : ISampleGrabberCB, IDisposable { #region Fields_Properties_and_Events bool dis = false; int count = 0; const string fileName = @"d:\histogramValues.dat"; private IFilterGraph2 _filterGraph; private IMediaControl _mediaCtrl; private IMediaEvent _mediaEvent; private int _width; private int _height; private readonly string _outFolder; private int _frameId; //better use a custom EventHandler that passes the results of the action to the subscriber. public delegate void EventHandler(object sender, EventArgs e); public event EventHandler StatusChanged; public delegate void FrameCountEventHandler(object sender, FrameCountEventArgs e); public event FrameCountEventHandler FrameCountAvailable; public delegate void ProgressEventHandler(object sender, ProgressEventArgs e); public event ProgressEventHandler ProgressChanged; private IMediaSeeking _mSeek; private long _duration = 0; private long _avgFrameTime = 0; //just save the averages to a List (not to fs) public List<double> AveragesList { get; set; } public List<long> histogramValuesList; public bool Secondpass { get; set; } public List<int> FramesToSave { get; set; } #endregion #region Constructors and Destructors public WmvAdapter(string file, string outFolder) { _outFolder = outFolder; try { SetupGraph(file); } catch { Dispose(); MessageBox.Show("A codec is required to load this video file. set; } } } I remember i had this codec problem/s before and i installed the codec/'s that were needed but in this case both quick time and windows media player can play the video files so why the application cant detect and find the codec/'s on my computer ? Gspot say that the codec is AVC1 but again wmp and quicktime play the video files no problems. The video files are from my digital camera !

  • Efficiently finding the shortest path in large graphs

    - by Björn Lindqvist
I'm looking to find a way to in real-time find the shortest path between nodes in a huge graph. It has hundreds of thousands of vertices and millions of edges. I know this question has been asked before and I guess the answer is to use a breadth-first search, but I'm more interested in to know what software you can use to implement it. For example, it would be totally perfect if it already exist a library (with python bindings!) for performing bfs in undirected graphs.

  • Is there an easy way to make a horizontally paged UIScrollView wrap around?

    - by rustyshelf
I notice that in the stocks application, the small graph wraps around, eg: when you get to the end of the scroll view and swipe right again, you go back to the beginning. Before I go ahead and code this myself is there an easy way to do this in the SDK? I can't find any properties or methods that would enable that? I have a paged UIScrollView that scrolls horizontally, pretty much exactly like the stocks application one does.

  • How to render an object tree with paging?

    - by erikzeta
I’ll render an object graph on a page looking like this: Category 1 Module 1 Product 1 Product 2 Product 3 Module 2 Product 4 Category 2 ... The Category has an IList<Module and the Module contains an IList<Product Now I need to implement paging on this structure but the problem is that I can’t do Category.Skip(page * pageSize).Take(pageSize) because this will only work on the Category object not the whole object tree. In other words I like to render out when the sum of Categories, Modules and Products is equal to the PageSize /erik

  • PostGreSQL load increasing over time, why?

    - by TravisO
It's a CentOS server (I don't know the specs) and just before anybody states the obvious, keep in mind these mitigating factors: the server does a nightly VACUUM job all the tables are indexed it's pretty much read only (meaning the DBs are not increasing in size) the number of queries being ran has been the same every month Here's a graph of the server load:

  • Seeing release markers in svn log

    - by chuanose
Whenever we make a release of a project we'll create a tag to capture the snapshot. It will be very helpful to be able to see which revisions in the trunk history were used in certain releases. I know the TortoiseSVN revision graph shows this information, but I'm wondering if there's a way to see it in the command-line svn log? I'm coming from a Clearcase background where we'll be able to see the release labels in the history.
