    Hi, One i had kept a supervisor password to my windows boot screen, but now i forgot that password, Now i am unable to access the boot menu since its asking the password, all menu options are disabled.     Hello, I had a system running Win 7 Home premium and ubuntu 10.04, side by side dual boot.I got an ubuntu 10.10 image disk so I decided to update.But during the installation I think I made a mistake by specifying the whole partition, and after installation of ubuntu 10.10 I saw that my windows and all the other data was gone.there was around 250GB of it.Is there any way I can recover this data??I had a lot of irreplacable photos and collections on the drive.I do have a recovery cd for my windows, but it does not detect any windows os.thanku very much.     Probably a rookie question but here goes...I am looking to buy a new video card for a few year old PC which will be used as a media centre. The card I am looking at is this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173708, with the main aim being to play blu-ray films. In the product description it states that the card has 7.1 audio channel support, does this mean it will play the sound from the blu-ray through the HDMI, or do I need a separate sound card?

    I have a Windows 2003 server running a SSH server (WRQ Reflection), how would I ssh to it and specify a specific drive letter? (like the D: drive) ex: from another workstation: ssh [email protected] d: When I do that it fails and I get this error: "exec request failed on channel 0" If I simply SSH to that same windowsbox without trying to specify a drive letter I get a Windows (CMD.EXE) command prompt shell on the C: drive. I can then run any windows command. Thanks

I'd like to hold on to the licensed copy in case I need to run a Windows app at some time in the future but want to wipe the machine completely, installing Ubuntu with no dual-boot. Is it possible to save an image of Windows 8 which can then be run (on the same laptop) from Linux as a virtual machine? If so, what applications (ideally free) should I use to make the image and then run it from Ubuntu?

    Isn't unencrypted /boot partition a weakness for encrypted LVM setup? Attacker may install a malware to /boot partition so that it may sniff encryption password next time system boots. It may also be done by a malware installed to Windows on dual-boot system without any physical access. Am I missing some protection scheme or at least I may verify that /boot contents didn't change since last system shutdown?

    I have a dual monitor setup on my GTX 460. I'd like to use the integrated graphics combo of my P7H55-PRO + I3 550 to display a 3rd monitor. This won't be used for gaming, just for more work space. Is it possible? The integrated display adapter won't show up in the device manager at all.     I need to try Linux (Ubuntu) and feel hesitant to install Ubuntu on top of a Win 7 machine to dual boot (might need to use Win7 and Ubuntu at the same time). Is creating a Virtual PC on Win7, and then install the latest Ubuntu on that Virtual PC one of the better option? So I think I can create a Virtual PC with an empty virtual hard disk (vhd), say, for 30GB, and then put in the Ubuntu DVD-R or CD-R to install Ubuntu onto that empty hard disk.

Lately I've been thinking in terms changing it to a dual monitor so that I can use one console for documentation/help/sample code/whatever, the other one to play with code. Assuming this board can handle a PCI GPU, can an AGP4x board coexist with a PCI GPU?

  • Why can I no longer pin tabs in Google Chrome?

    my computer wont load past the windows logo, when it finishing loading the logo i see a blue screen quickly flashes on and off just a glimpse of it but i recognise that sreen anywhere i know its a serious error message screen, after that it just shows a black screen with a movable cursor, i've tried to repair, load last good configuration, but nothing seems to work, i'm running windows 7, its a toshiba laptop, 4 GB SDRAM, 320 GB HDD, Intel Pentium Processor T4200, dual core processor.

    I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 (dual-boot) on my laptop.For some reasons I want some more space in my Ubuntu partition.I have installed gParted in Ubuntu.Now is it recommended to get this required extra space from Windows 7 drive (*where my linux is installed *) directly using gParted?     I have a dual Xeon hex core machine running an IO intensive application. (WinXP 32) I am seeing a hardware driver (1/2 user mode, 1/2 kernel, streaming data) that is using 6k delta page faults per second. When other applications load or allocate large amounts of memory the driver's hardware buffer gets an underrun (application not feeding it fast enough). Could this be because the kernel is only using one core to service page fault interrupts?

    Is there a method/utility to actively resize the partitions on a dual-boot macbook air, without destroying the contents? I made the Windows Partition too small initially, and all the places I've looked have stated that resizing now using bootcamp will destroy all data on the Win7 Partition. I would prefer free, but I'm open to a reasonably priced utility that can grow the Win7 partition into the available space (I can use bootcamp to shrink the OSX partition without any problems).

    There's a web site that's supposed to upload a video I'd like to watch but it could be in several weeks. The only way to be notified of any change is through RSS, but I don't use RSS at all, so installing an RSS client just for this seems overkill. Unless there's a better solution I should know about, do you know of a good, free solution on the web that will watch the RSS channel and send me an e-mail when a new item was added? Thank you.

    I have a Dell D830 laptop and am trying to add a second graphics card (to the laptop dock) to drive more monitors. It needs to be PCI (not PCI-e), and would ideally itself have dual DVI outputs (although I'll settle for DVI + VGA or even just DVI at this stage...) Needs to have real Windows 7 drivers, not just Vista drivers. Thanks!
