• Some websites are not opening in any web browser (firefox/chrome). What should I do? [closed]

  Some websites are not opening in my system. I am using Ubuntu 12.10. Earlier, when I was using Ubuntu 10.10,11.10 there was no such issue. The problem was started in ubuntu 12.04, but it remained the same even after formatting and installing ubuntu 12.10. I have tried Firefox as well as Chromium and I am sure the issue is not with the browser. same websites are opening perfectly with Windows. Google, Twitter and Ubuntu related websites are running perfect. Other websites like www.downrightnow.com, easy-mantra.com, facebook.com, sourceforge.net are not opening. Installed dual boot with win xp. Ubuntu 12.10 is 64 bit. • How to get windows back? Lubuntu?

  I installed lubuntu and I don't like it. I did a clean install to lubuntu rather than making it dual. Now when I want to go back to Windows it won't work. I put the Windows Vista CD in and it won't load. It just loads lubuntu back. I know for a fact that the CD works just fine. I don't know what to do? I did a little research and it says I deleted the windows loader or the partition. Can someone help me?

• Installing Ubuntu 12 on SATA III drive

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on a SATA III drive however the installer will not recognize my drive in the guided (dual-boot) install. I have changed the controller from IDE to AHCI to no avail, the install still will only recognize my very small second drive that is plugged into a SATA II port. The thing is, the unguided install sees this drive just fine, I just am not sure enough of what I'm doing to feel safe installing via this method. Is there a fix for this beyond plugging my drive into a SATA II port? I really would like to avoid this because of my terrible cable management skills it would be a huge pain to switch it over.

"It causes when select a text something" So I'm using keyboard to to reboot system. Then it back to normal after reboot. Tried with unplugging-plugging mouse don't work. • Problems after installing Ubuntu 11.10

  I'm having trouble with Ubuntu 11.10. It has to do with nomodeset. After I boot into Ubuntu, it goes to a purple screen for about 10 seconds and then goes blank. After that nothing happens. I've read other people's questions about this and I know it has to do with enabling nomodeset. This worked for me when I was using the LiveCD mode, but now Ubuntu is permanently installed as a dual-boot system. Going into recovery mode doesn't work, pressing "e" in the boot loader and writing nomodeset after quiet splash doesn't work either. Holding shift any time it's booting doesn't work. I don't know what to do anymore. I have an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with an AMD A6-3400M CPU, and my GPU is an AMD Radeon HD 6520G. I've never worked with Linux before so taking me through this step-by-step would be great. Thanks!

• Slow wifi with D-link DWA-160 A2

  I recently bought a USB wifi adapter for my new desktop computer. It's a D-link DWA-160 A2. From the start it didn't want to work at all, but after unplugging and then plugging it back in, it seems to work. However, my browsing is painfully slow. NetworkManager reports the connection to be at around 78-85% signal strength, which seems perfectly acceptable. Is there anything I can do to make it faster? I'm dual booting with Windows 7, where it seems to work fine, so I'm guessing that the problem occurs because of crappy drivers.

  I've sony vaio vpceb24en laptop, I'm using dual boot system with windows 7 and ubuntu. Firstly I installed ubuntu 10.04 LTS then upgraded to 12.04 & 12.04.1 afterwards. I have mts mblaze dongle. I have set up the mts connection profile under the mobile broadband. My problem is : Sometimes my connection is easily made & I use it, sometime it never connects. So I have to restart my system then it connects to internet sometimes. But now it's not connecting even I restarted my system many times, just it shows trying to connect icon once, then never tries to connect. while in windows it's working fine. Please someone help me out how to resolve this problem as I'm very new to linux. Thanks, Chetan

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 (almost default install regularly updated) Unity interface on ASUS X53U (AMD Brazos Dual Core C60 with 2GB RAM). On launching Thunderbird and Firefox, the application dims and the cursor changes to wait mode. In case of Thunderbird, this is most pronounced with the wait time of up to a minute. Memory status checked with free indicates around 500MB of free memory on such occasions. The OS is stable and I can switch to a different work-space, etc. What could this be? Is this something normal?

  So, as a number of users seem to be experiencing, I am unable to change brightness on my laptop. Using the Brightness and Lock in settings, the slider moves but brightness does not adjust. The fn keys work for volume but not for brightness. I have updated my drivers and installed all updates, however the brightness is still at maximum. I have heard that opening sudo gedit /etc/x11/xorg.conf and entering Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1" can fix this, however when opening xorg.conf through Terminal I am greeted with a blank document...   Today I tried to activate the newer experimental drivers and both 304 and 310 failed to even install. So I tried the regular nvidia driver 295.40 for the 20th time today (I had lag issues and was testing Nouveau vs Nvidia with dual monitor and Unity2D-3D) Within my tty1 I tried to remove nvidia: sudo apt-get remove nvidia-settings nvidia-current and purge too reboot, nothing. So when lshw -c video displayed nvidia as my driver I tried sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf since I read ubuntu would "reset" the GUI conf but reboot, nothing. So next I tried sudo jockey-text --disable=xorg:nvidia_current And nothing has worked...

• Grub does not autoboot the default option after upgrade to 12.10

  I recently upgraded Ubuntu from 12.04 to 12.10 and since that time, the system does not automatically boot. It always opens the boot menu, and I have to press Enter to make it boot Ubuntu. It seems to be ignoring the timeout value, and using a 'neverending' timeout. There are no other systems (no dual boot), only the options originally installed by default Ubuntu 12.04 installation. • Can't boot after power failure - 14.04 - GRUB even doesn't showup

  Packages were updating when somehow the power failed (battery fully charged and power got disconnected). Now it won't boot. It doesn't even get as far as GRUB. The bios says it can't boot and press any key to retry. Fortunately all data is backed up and I can boot a live SD. Now what do I do?   I have dual-booted by Samsung Series 5 Chromebook into Ubuntu using Jay Lee's script/instructions, and then installed the ~500 updates that appear thereafter. Now, I am trying to build my kernel headers in an attempt to enable virtualization so that I can run VirtualBox (I have a VM image on a flashdrive). I followed the instructions here: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/chromebook-central/PPQFpC7mYzk mainly doing as olofj suggests in his answer, while also making sure to abide by additions/edits made by panZ and algp. However, now that I have done so, my wifi has stopped working, and when I click on the network icon in the top bar, in place of wifi networks there is a grayed-out message that says "no network devices available". I have an Atheros AR9300 Ethernet card (I think thats what you call it). Any help is much needed and appreciated. Any further details necessary to answer the question will be provided as necessary.   Meaning that I can not click anything on that 1px vertical area (such as scrollbars). Illustration (purple = screen, black = the dead area): I am thinking Compiz has to be the main suspect, especially as on a guest account, this problem does not exist. I have a dual-monitor setup and this does not happen on the 2nd screen. However, turning off the 2nd display does not make any difference. I had this issue already before upgrading to 13.10 and while doing that, I also resetted all Compiz settings and re-loaded my profile configuration file. I have tried disabling all Compiz plugins under "Window Management" What next?

• Wired internet speed is slow in Ubuntu 12.04

  I have dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 on my Dell N4110 laptop. I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my existing windows 7 hard drive. I am experiencing very slow internet speed on Ubuntu(wired connection). But on Windows,internet is really fast. I disabled ipv6 by editing /etc/sysctl.conf No avail. Then i run the following command. sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off No benefit. I am having "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.   I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on an older hard disk. I recently bought a new disk and already installed Windows 7. I dont want to use the older disk anymore, and I would like to keep on using Ubuntu in a virtual machine on the new disk(to avoid the possible mess-ups of dual boot and I found VirtualBox is the best free tool for this).   Recently I've installed dual boot ubuntu 13.10 alongside windows 8. My Laptop is Dell Inspiron 15, with AMD Radeon HD 7670 Video Card. Without fglrx my battery is draining to 1:30 hrs from 3:30hrs (In Ubuntu 13.04 but very slow booting ) so I installed fglrx using What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx)? But the problem is as you all know, Black Screen after logging into ubuntu. Tried so many solutions for this like reinstalling unity , ubuntu-desktop , compizconfig , etc.. but none helped except removing fglrx* completely. (But I need them very badly due to battery) Assuming that all hope is lost., Posting here as a final try.! Will be highly greatfull for those who helped :) PS : For those who think this question is a duplicate., Though the question may be a duplicate, but the answer is not! (so give me a assured solution for this problem before flagging this as duplicate., Kindly understand my frustation) Thank You !
