• Error installing Rails on Ubuntu 11.10 (Gem::DependencyError)

  I'm trying to install Ruby on Rails on Ubuntu 11.10, but receiving this error: $ sudo gem install rails ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::DependencyError) Unable to resolve dependencies: rails requires activesupport (= 3.2.3), actionpack (= 3.2.3), activerecord (= 3.2.3), activeresource (= 3.2.3), actionmailer (= 3.2.3), railties (= 3.2.3) How can I fix this? Note: Git (1.7.5.4 ) and Ruby (1.9.2p290) are installed properly.

• Can I use wikipedia/commons images to create a logo for my program?

  I'm not perfectly clear on the implications of the GFDL for reusing pictures in this manner. Would adding a reference in the git's root folder's README suffice, or would that clutter every use of the logo, as you would have to attribute all original contributors on every single usage (like, e.g. presentations, flyers, websites, ...)? The software itself qualifies as FOSS, although it doesn't have a GNU* license.

• Why can't Ubuntu find an ext3 filesystem on my hard-drive?

  This question is related to this question: Not enough components to start the RAID array? I'm trying to retrieve data from a "Western Digital MyBook World Edition (white light)" NAS device. This is basically an embedded Linux box with a 1TB HDD in it formatted in ext3. It stopped booting one day for no apparent reason. I have extracted the HDD from the NAS device and installed it in a desktop machine running Ubuntu 10.10 in the hope of accessing the files on the drive. • Wired connection not being recognized

  I'm on Ubuntu Maverick (10.10). I've read a few threads regarding wired connection problems, but haven't found a solution yet. The problem appears after I connect to a wireless network. When I disconnect wireless and plug in an internet cable, the wired connection is not recognized at all. Even the socket appears dead (there are no diodes flashing). The only solution so far seems to be restarting the computer. Network Manager then tries to connect to a Wi-Fi, but the wired connection is listed and working. I've tried sudo restart network-manager, but that doesn't solve anything. After a while, available wireless networks start appearing, but the wired still doesn't. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.   Hello, When developing web applications, how does one keep local files and remote files synced together? There is the obvious way, whenever you edit a file on your local machine, just upload that file to the remote machine. Is there a more efficient way? I ask because I have been using subversion control, and it is so easy to keep files synced on a remote server. All I have to do is "commit" and it will find the files which need to be replaced.
