  • What video graphic card would permit ubuntu's standard driver to work well?

    I installed ubuntu 12.04. All seemed well until I installed the nvidia driver. Then crashola! This situation is untenable. It seems I cannot trust nvidia, and it seems that I cannot rely on ubuntu gurus to test 3rd party drivers. So, apparently some video card manufacturers do not care enough about the linux market to test their drivers, or are there too many 3rd party video cards so that ubuntu folks do not test any 3rd party video drivers? Hence the question: What video graphic card would permit me to use ubuntu's standard driver so that I do not have to rely on nvidia's or any other 3rd-party driver? Perhaps I could then install THAT card and have things work? The ubuntu standard driver actually worked prior to installing the nvidia driver, but not well, and that was because the display flickered, and flickering gives me a headache.

  • How can I install ATI Catalyst Video driver of Ubuntu 12.04.3?

    EDIT My computer is Thinkpad E420 with Intel HD3000 and ATI 6630m. I have reinstalled my Ubuntu12.04.3 yesterday. I had successfully installed Ubuntu and ATI Catalyst Video driver many times about half year ago following these links: How do I get AMD/Intel Hybrid Graphics drivers to work? What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx)? However, this time I have no luck with installing ATI Catalyst Video driver. I have tried version 13.4, 13.1, 12.8 of ATI Catalyst Video driver. It seemed that 13.4 doesn't support 12.04 any more, following this link , the lowest Ubuntu version supported by ATI 13.4 is 12.10 and for the reset of the ATI drivers, the kernel version and xorg version of Ubuntu 12.04.3 is too high to be supported. So, should I stay on ubuntu 12.04.1 with ATI 12.8, or there is any way to install ATI driver on Ubuntu 12.04.3?

    I have a Samsung RC720 notebook with Intel Integrated Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M. As you can see it has two video adapters and Optimus is supposed to switch between them. But when I choose dedicated GPU in NVIDIA Control Panel and try to run, for example, GTA IV, it uses integrated graphics and I get very poor performance. I have already installed last NVIDIA and notebook drivers, chose high-performance in NVIDIA Control Panel, tried to execute with "Run with graphics processor..." context option and so on.     It would appear that Broadcast Television is often 1080i30 (60 fields/s), and non-movie DVDs (example, instructional or TV shows) are 60fields/s as well, at some lower resolution (480i?) However, almost all video that ends up on the internet, whether in x264-encoded content, Youtube, etc. is 30 frames per second, that is to say , it is progressive scan. However, when you watch content on your TV, I'm guessing the TV converts it to progressive for you, but the end result is a very fluid picture that "feels" quite a bit like 60frames/s. What is the best way to obtain this result when ripping interlaced content sourced from TV or DVDs? Can I rip a DVD that is 60 fields per second to 60 frames per second? I would imagine classic deinterlace filters do not do this, they merge fields and create a 30fps output. I'm using handbrake.

For example, I have some images [test_100.jpg, test_101.jpg, test_102.jpg, ..., test_200.jpg], and I want to convert them to a video.     I need some help removing a couple of DVI connectors which are stuck in my video card ports. I don't know why they were screwed in so tightly in the first place but they won't move. I need to replace hardware in the machine, but doing so with the cables connected and the box in its current position is nearly impossible. I've tried pliers with grips to loosen the screws holding the cable, and I've tried a screwdriver, the latter ended up breaking off the plastic. Neither worked. I'm at a loss as to what to do and I'm very frustrated. Can I get some suggestions?

  • repairing or retrieving video off a cracked disk

    My disk has a thin cracked right through the one side. right around the crack it looks like it has water damage but im pretty sure it was caused from the crack. will tape work for this? its a dvd of us in jamaica swimming with dolphins and i havent even watched it yet, it got ruined in my suitcase. If there is no way to repair it, is there somewhere that i can take it so they might be able to somehow get the video off of it and onto another disk? any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
