  I have upgraded my Ubuntu to 10.04 and I am facing this problem of COMP_WORDS bad array subscript when I press TAB for certain completion. I thought, it is a bug with bash-completion package and I purged it. But even after that, I still face this. If it is a bug with bash package, how I can resolve it? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bash-completion/+bug/366446 It is difficult for a developer to live with this bug in the system.

  I'm hosting a Wordpress-site on Windows Server 2008 RS and want to scan all files that are uploaded by users for viruses using this plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/upload-scanner/. I'm on a really tight budget (no profit) so ClamAV seem like a good choice. What is the best way to run ClamAV under these circumstances? I'm concidering the following options: Just running the raw windows build from http://sourceforge.net/projects/clamav/ an setup definition updates with task scheduler. Any way to automate updates of the scanner (binaries)? Using a "distro" like ClamWin or Immunet (advertised on clamav.net). Any suggestions are welcome.

• Correct nvidia+intel graphics setup in 14.04

  Just upgraded to 14.04 to try to fix some other issues. Now, something has gone wrong with my graphics. • What are the different Partition Types listed in gparted?

  I am reformatting an older 40meg drive using gparted from within a Linux distro. The drive had no partitions and no partition table, so I am creating a new Partition Table via the Advanced option. The default partition type is msdos, which I think is the same as MBR in parted. The description sounds right: maximum of 4 primary partitions, or 3 primary and 1 extended partition, maximum of 2 tb with 512b sectors. There are a number of other options, gpt being one. Which I would use if the drive was greater than 2 tb. The following partition types are also available: apx, amiga, bsd, dvh, mac, pc98, sun, loop. The question: what are these other types and where can I find a description or discussion about them? Secondary question: is there any reason to not use gpt on a smaller drive? Thank-you

• Ubuntu 12.04 Faster boot, Hibernate & other questions

  I've recently started exploring Ubuntu (my 1st distro). I fresh installed precise without a swap (4GB ram). The only issues are, slow boot (regardless of the swap) and instability after a few days of installation. The runtime performance is immaculate otherwise. Even though not needed, I still set swappiness = 10. I've tried the quiet splash profile to GRUB; already have preload installed. But it still is pretty slow. I am not too confident on recompiling the kernel yet. But you could please advice me on that too. I've also added the following to fstab: #Move /tmp to RAM: tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults,noexec,nosuid 0 0 (Also if you could please tell me the exact implication/scope of this tweak on physical ram & the swap.) But nothing has happened really. So what alternatives are there to make it boot faster? Also, right after fresh install, though no swap partition, the system still showed /dev/zram0 of arond 2GB which was never used (probably because of the above fstab edit). Finally, I experimented with Hibernate a little, but many claim that it doesn't work on 12.04. (Not to mention, I made a swap file of 4GB for it). What I did was: sudo gedit /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/hibernate.pkla Then I added the following lines, saved the file, and closed the text editor: [Re-enable Hibernate] Identity=unix-user:* Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate ResultActive=yes I also edited the upower policy for hibernate: gksudo gedit /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.upower.policy I added these lines: < allow_inactive >no< /allow_inactive > < allow_active >yes< /allow_active > But it did not work. So is there an alternate method perhaps that can make it work on 12.04?

• How to make and restore incremental snapshots of hard disk

  I use Virtual Box a lot for distro / applications testing purposes. One of the features I simply love about it is virtual machines snapshots, its saves a state of a virtual machine and is able to restore it to its former glory if something you did went wrong without any problems and without consuming your all hard disk space. On my live systems I know how to create a 1:1 image of the file system but all the solutions I'v known will create a new image of the complete file system. Are there any programs / file systems that are capable of taking a snapshot of a current file system, save it on another location but instead of making a complete new image it creates incremental backups? To easy describe what I want, it should be as dd images of a file system, but instead of only a full backup it would also create incremental. I am not looking for clonezilla, etc. It should run within the system itself with no (or almost none) intervention from the user, but contain all the data of the file systems. I am also not looking for a duplicity backup your all system excluding some folders script + dd to save your mbr. I can do that myself, looking for extra finesse. I'm looking for something I can do before doing massive changes to a system and then if something when wrong or I burned my hard disk after spilling coffee on it I can just boot from a liveCD and restore a working snapshot to a hard disk. It does not need to be daily, it doesn't even need a schedule. Just run once in a while and let it its job and preferably RAW based not file copy based.

I have slow internet where I live, I always relied on the Alternative CD. But now with it gone for 12.10, so I looked for alternatives (DVD Image). So where can I find a DVD image, or is the only way to get one is to buy a DVD from the shop?

• Using both .co.uk and .com domain

  We presently have a .co.uk domain that has been live now for around 9-10 months, recently the .com version of this domain has become available and we've purchased based on reading that suggests you should try and go for .com where possible. My issue now is, what should I do with the .com? Should I use this in favour of the .co.uk or use both? I'm concerned that rankings might be affected if I completely replace the .co.uk with the .com. Any suggestions?

  Is it possible to as a developer using a shared hosting site such as bluehost, hostgator, and the like, to view your site without making it public. Or do the files you upload always go live immediately? Is the best way to test a site (if using shared hosting) to just set up some apache/mysql/php service on my machine?   Hello, I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 32bit on this pc. I have both tried with Wubi from Windows and from USB stick, but after the installation process when I select to boot Ubuntu the screen becomes black and nothing happens (btw I can hear the cpu running)! Notice that maybe it is something related to the graphic card of the pc, since when I use Ubuntu in live mode or during the installation process all the graphics and colors are messed up as if there wasn't an appropriate diriver... I thought that the Google Chrome developer tools or the IE 9 developer tools do have such a feature, but again, I failed. Searching Google, I failed too. • How to analyse logs after the site was hacked

  One of our web-projects was hacked. Malefactor changed some template files in project and 1 core file of the web-framework (it's one of the famous php-frameworks). We found all corrupted files by git and reverted them. So now I need to find the weak point. With high probability we can say, that it's not the ftp or ssh password abduction. The support specialist of hosting provider (after logs analysis) said that it was the security hole in our code. My questions: 1) What tools should I use, to review access and error logs of Apache? (Our server distro is Debian). 2) Can you write tips of suspicious lines detection in logs? Maybe tutorials or primers of some useful regexps or techniques? 3) How to separate "normal user behavior" from suspicious in logs. 4) Is there any way to preventing attacks in Apache? • failure daemon and changing pid number

  proftpd, sshd and apache processes run with /etc/init.d/its-script on linux distro. I was monitoring 21, 22 and 80 ports with farm monitoring service: every 5 minutes service check each port and notify only failure. The failures were 5-6 times on 24h. It seems that someone kicks the switch sometimes.. I add monit and collectd monitoring and the monitoring about 21, 22 and 80 ports is every 1 minute. I do not receive farm monitoring service notify. I receive only monit notify about failure and/or succeed/changing pid number of proftpd, sshd or apache process. The failures are still 5-6 times on 24h. collectd monitoing about cpu, load average and each process is regular and there are no peaks. There is nothing kicks the switch but there is something which determines failure monitoring. is it a simple interference or is it indicative of some abnormality? What could cause these failures?
