  Every time I call JPA method its creating entity and binding query. My persistence properties are: <property name="hibernate.dialect" value="org.hibernate.dialect.Oracle10gDialect"/> <property name="hibernate.cache.provider_class" value="net.sf.ehcache.hibernate.SingletonEhCacheProvider"/> <property name="hibernate.cache.use_second_level_cache" value="true"/> <property name="hibernate.cache.use_query_cache" value="true"/> And I am creating entity manager the way shown below: emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("pu"); em = emf.createEntityManager(); em = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("pu").createEntityManager(); Is there any nice way to manage entity manager resource instead create new every time or any property can set in persistence. • IIS 7.5 401 -UnAuthorized Access on a Virtual Directory

  I have setup a website in IIS 7.5 on a Windows 2008 machine. The website is sitting on C:/websites/ Then I added a virtual directory called "/uploads" that points to "d:/websites/uploads". This directory holds all the images/media. When I browse the website in browser, I dont see any images etc. When I browse an image directly I notice that it's throwing a 401 error. 401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. I have searched Google quite a lot and I am pretty sure I am have all the permissions setup correctly. Can anyone tell me what I could be doing wrong here?

  I love Ubuntu, and as I am searching the internet, I am finding that some questions I have have not been answered yet. One of them is if there is a preferred way to set up a virtual server. I look through the Ubuntu Software Center, but found nothing from the search "Virtual Server" I then searched the internet and found lots of posts to trouble-shoot VMWare virtual servers. So, like a good researcher I looked in the Software center for VMWare. Sure enough I found "user agent" and "view open client". I didn't get sufficient info from the software center. And searching the website only left me scratching my head. I want to install Ubuntu Server Edition. I already have a server, but am cautious "trying out" things on it. So a virtual server sounds like what I need.

• Synchronizing Access to a member of the ASP.NET session

  I'm building a Javascript application and eash user has an individual UserSession. The application makes a bunch of Ajax calls. Each Ajax call needs access to a single UserSession object for the user. Each Ajax call needs a UserSession object. Data in the UserSession object is unique to each user. Originally, during each Ajax call I would create a new UserSession object and it's data members were stored in the ASP.NET Session. However, I found that the UserSession object was being instantiated a lot. To minimize the construction of the UserSession object, I wrapped it in a Singleton pattern and sychronized access to it. I believe that the synchronization is happening application wide, however I only need it to happen per user. I saw a post here that says the ASP.NET cache is synchronized, however the time between creating the object and inserting it into the cache another Thread could start construction it's another object and insert it into the cache. Here is the way I'm currently synchronizing access to the object. • Putting a C++ Vector as a Member in a Class that Uses a Memory Pool

  Hey, I've been writing a multi-threaded DLL for database access using ADO/ODBC for use with a legacy application. I need to keep multiple database connections for each thread, so I've put the ADO objects for each connection in an object and thinking of keeping an array of them inside a custom threadInfo object. Obviously a vector would serve better here - I need to delete/rearrange objects on the go and a vector would simplify that. Problem is, I'm allocating a heap for each thread to avoid heap contention and stuff and allocating all my memory from there. So my question is: how do I make the vector allocate from the thread-specific heap? (Or would it know internally to allocate memory from the same heap as its wrapper class - sounds unlikely, but I'm not a C++ guy) I've googled a bit and it looks like I might need to write an allocator or something - which looks like so much of work I don't want. Is there any other way? I've heard vector uses placement-new for all its stuff inside, so can overloading operator new be worked into it? My scant knowledge of the insides of C++ doesn't help, seeing as I'm mainly a C programmer (even that - relatively). It's very possible I'm missing something elementary somewhere. If nothing easier comes up - I might just go and do the array thing, but hopefully it won't come to that. I'm using MS-VC++ 6.0 (hey, it's rude to laugh! :-P ). Any/all help will be much appreciated.

When I setup a new Android Project in Eclipse, and select Windows - Android SDK and AVD Manager, in Virtual Devices, the list of existing Android Virtual Devices is empty. Is it supposed to be? From the pictures in the tutorial, it's pre-populated. Can I download these AVDs from somewhere, am I missing something here? Also, I'm developing this on my Macbook Pro.

• Doxygen for C++ template class member specialization

  When I write class templates, and need to fully-specialize members of those classes, Doxygen doesn't recognize the specialization - it documents only the generic definition, or (if there are only specializations) the last definition. I need to be able to document the specializations - either within the documentation for MyClass<T>, or on new pages for MyClass<double>, MyClass<char>. How do I do this? Can Doxygen even handle this? Am I possibly doing something wrong in the declarations/code structure that's keeping Doxygen from understanding what I want? I should note two related cases: A) For templated functions, specialization works fine, e.g.: /* functions that are global/in a namespace */ template<class T> void foo(){ printf("Generic foo\n"); } template<> void foo<double>(){ printf("Specialized double foo\n"); } This will document both foo() and foo(). B) If I redeclare the entire template, i.e. template<> class MyClass<double>{...};, then MyClass<double> will get its own documentation page, as a seperate class. But this means actually declaring an entirely new class - there is no relation between MyClass<T> and MyClass<double> if MyClass<double> itself is declared. So I'd have to redeclare the class and all its members, and repeat all the definitions of class members, specialized for MyClass<double>, all to make it appear as though they're using the same template. • Create Virtual Image of Laptop before Formatting

  I have a 3 year old laptop running Windows XP that I used for business. Although I have not used the laptop in over a year, I now want to re-commission it with Windows 7 and a fresh install. Before I do the fresh install I want to create a Virtual Image of the laptop that I can keep and potentially run on my desktop machine should I ever need to access any of the old files/projects that it contains currently. I know that most people will say just copy the files over to your desktop, but my concern is the configuration of the laptop. I used to use it for development and it has older versions of Visual Studio, SQL Server, Active X controls etc, etc than I currently use so I really want to preserve the environment not just the files. So really I am asking what is the best tool-set/method to achieve this? I understand there are free VM tools available but I have never done this before and would appreciate any help.

• Virtual Machine files on ramdisk doesn't run faster than on physical disk

  I installed total 36G memory (4x8G + 2x2G) in the host (Windows 7) and I used ImDisk to create a 32G ramdisk and format it to NTFS file system. Then I copied the virtual machine (in VMware Workstation format) folder, including vmx, vmdk, etc... to the new created ram disk. Then I tried to power on it in VMware Workstation. What made me surprised is that the performance is not better than before. It cost almost the same time to power on the Windows 7 VM. I check the Resource Monitor in the Windows 7 host, and the statistics of CPU, disk, network are rather normal. The memory has reported 3000+ hard fault/sec when guest OS boot then drop to 0 after the guest powered on. Any idea about this issue? I had thought the performance of ramdisk will be better than physical disk in this case. Am I wrong? Thanks.

  When using some existing forum software in a larger web-site, how easy is it to: 1)Make your site's login functionality log the user into the forum 2)Make your site's registration functionality create forum login data I suppose in a way it might be easier to ONLY use the forum's database for maintaining users, but that means trusting it with sensitive data. I'm planning an integration between an existing bespoke desktop app and a new bespoke web-site which should include forums. I don't know which forums will be used but I know the new web functionality won't be PHP-based. I figure that's not a big deal but I'm wondering if forums typically allow configuration of where they look for login data, to avoid duplicating this data into my DB and the forum DB.

VirtualBox 4.2.12 (can't upgrade to .14 as it doesn't work.) • std::for_each on a member function with 1 argument

  I'm wondering how to implement what is stated in the title. I've tried something like... std::for_each( a.begin(), a.end(), std::mem_fun_ref( &myClass::someFunc ) ) but I get an error saying that the "term" (I"m assuming it means the 3rd argument) doesn't evaluate to a function with 1 argument, even though someFunc does take one argument - the type of the objects stored in a. I'm wondering if what I'm trying to do is possible using the standard library (I know I can do it easily using boost). P.S. Does using for_each and mem_fun_ref have any performance implications in comparison to just iterating through a manually and passing the object to someFunc?

• Make IP Address point to webroot instead of virtual hosts' documentroot

  I used to have a one-to-one domain name and IP. Recently I've paid for a second domain name and decided to host it on the same box and IP. As such, I added virtualhosts to point each domain name to a different document root (i.e. /var/www/webbie1 and /var/www/webbie2). The question I have is, can I still make the IP, e.g. http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX, point to the webroot, i.e. /var/www/? If so, how do I go about doing it? For a fuller picture, the box is on an Ubuntu server OS and I'm using apache2 as the app server. the changes I made to enable to virtual hosts were in the apache2.conf file with the <VirtualHost [IP address]> ... </VirtualHost> tags. • VMWare Server :: VM set to 2gb RAM but vmware process shows 100mb physical, 1900mb virtual

  I've set up a VMWare instance to run CastIron Integration Appliance. I allocated 2gb of memory to the instance, assuming it would take this as physical memory (my server has 8gb total). When I view top however on the server, the vmware-vmx process has about 100m Resident memory and 1900m Virtual. Running CastIron it reports that the appliance often hits 50% memory usage. Does this mean I'm using 900mb of harddrive space as memory? I wanted VMWare to use 2gb of physical memory, no swap. Can anyone tell me how to achieve this? • Virtual firewall to protect hypervisor

  I am running an Ubuntu Server 12.10 as a single host connected to a NATed router connected using PPPoE to a optical fiber modem. This server is meant to be accessed from the Internet, but also to be used from the LAN as a SVN, MySQL and what not... The issue is that the router is not customizable enough to serve, so I was thinking about creating a virtual pfSense firewall using KVM inside of the server itself, removing the need of the router. Is this possible? Can the host ignore and block all traffic coming to itself, but not for the firewall? I am aware this is not the most desirable environment, I accept suggestions based on budget!

• Acer Aspire 5315 Boot order doesn't show CD-ROM

  Hi, I have an ACER ASPIRE 5315 laptop. I want use the recovery disk but, the boot manager does not show the CD-ROM bootable option. In the BIOS settings the I set the boot priority to USB CD-ROM first and then the harddrive. But its not working. When I press F12 the boot manager doesnot show the USB CD-ROM device. Please assist. • RhinoMocks - Mocking Protected virtual members

  As far as I know, RM should mock anything that can be accessed by a derived class. Since a protected virtual member is accessible from a subclass, shouldn't it be mockable? My understanding is that RM does not support mocking protected virtual members.
