• Logging which is the best way

  Hi People who talk about loggers here never talke about EventLog, I think this is good for windows system. Is it reliable, or I found it dead in some bad morning? Why not logging everything at SQLServer, I am creating E-Commerce website, if SQL server down the website will be down anyway. but I am worry about temporally connection failure, what do u think? Why everyone like files, it can be in great size, too big to handle, or maybe I will create another file when a file is too big, and I can create a file with a date. Some one tried MS Enterprise library? talk to me about it. Thanks

  We're trying to add some kind of persistence in our app. The app generates about 250 entries per second. Each of these entries belong to one of 2M files. For each file, we want to keep the last 10 entries, so we can look them up later. The way our client application works : it gets a stream of all the data it fetches the right file (GET) it adds the new content it saves the file back (PUT) We're looking for an efficient way to store this data that can scale horizontally as the amount of data we're getting is doubling every few weeks. We initially looked at S3. It works fine, but becomes very expensive very fast ($1000 monthly just in PUT operations!) We then gave a shot at Riak. But it seems we can't get more than 60 write/sec on each node, which is very very slow. Any other solution out there?

• Using boost.python to import a method with opencv calls but failing due to symbols not being found a

  So I don't have the code right now, as I am not home... but i used the boost library for python in C++ to allow python to access a function called something like loadImageIntoMainWindow(string filepath) in the C++ source code the method calls opencv methods that are imported at the top of the file, I included opencv in my Jamroot file, and also found a way to compile and link manually on the command line... in either case when I run my python file it complains that the symbols aren't found for the first function call to an opencv method... I will update as soon as I get home with the C++, the command line compilation lines, the Jamroot, and the python files

• Reading numeric Excel data as text using xlrd in Python

  Hi guys, I am trying to read in an Excel file using xlrd, and I am wondering if there is a way to ignore the cell formatting used in Excel file, and just import all data as text? For example, is there is a zip code of '79854' in the Excel file, it will be imported as '79854.0'. I have tried finding a solution in this xlrd spec, but was unsuccessful.

  Hi, I want to read/write to cache.plist If I want to read an existing premade plist file stored in the resources folder I can go: path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] bundlePath]; NSString *finalPath = [path stringByAppendingPathWithComponent@"cache.plist"]; NSMutableDictionary *root = ... But then I wish to read it from the iPhone. Can't, the Resources folder is only readable. So I need to use: NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomain,YES So how can I have my plist file preinstalled to the Document Directory location? Thus meaning I don't have to mess around with untidy code copying the plist file over at startup. (Unless that's the only way).

• Preserve time stamp when shrinking an image

  My digital camera takes pictures with a very high resolution, and I have a PIL script to shrink them to 800x600 (or 600x800). However, it would be nice for the resultant file to retain the original timestamp. I noticed in the docs that I can use a File object instead of a name in PIL's image save method, but I don't know if that will help or not.   I have a C#/ASP.NET website that has some code (*.cs) files in the App_Code directory. I would like to test them using NUnit. I have written a test file with the proper [TestFixture] and [Test] annotations and have put it here: App_Code/Test/TestClassName.cs. I load up the NUnit GUI to run it but it wants me to select a .exe or .dll file. There is none in the bin folder of my project. My project does successfully run and is built and everything, but still no exe or dll file. How can I get the NUnit Gui to just run the test in that class?

• [Gdata] GetAuthSubToken returns None

  Hey guys, I am a little lost on how to get the auth token. Here is the code I am using on the return from authorizing my app: client = gdata.service.GDataService() gdata.alt.appengine.run_on_appengine(client) sessionToken = gdata.auth.extract_auth_sub_token_from_url(self.request.uri) client.UpgradeToSessionToken(sessionToken) logging.info(client.GetAuthSubToken()) what gets logged is "None" so that does seem right :-( if I use this: temp = client.upgrade_to_session_token(sessionToken) logging.info(dump(temp)) I get this: {'scopes': ['http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/'], 'auth_header': 'AuthSub token=CNKe7drpFRDzp8uVARjD-s-wAg'} so I can see that I am getting a AuthSub Token and I guess I could just parse that and grab the token but that doesn't seem like the way things should work. • C# Login Dialog Implementation

  I have implemented a LoginAccess class that prompts the user to enter their active directory username and password. Then I save the login data as an encrypted file. Every subsequent start of the application, the LoginAccess class will read the encrypted file and check against the active directory to see if the login information is still valid. If it is not, then it will prompt the user again. I have made it so that the reading of the encrypted file and displaying of the login dialog is done on a separate thread. A delegate is fired when the login process is complete. The issue that I'm having is that I have a class that is used in multiple places. This class contains the call to the LoginAccess object. Every time I instantiate a new object there are multiple calls to the LoginAccess object and I get multiple dialogs appearing when it tries to prompt for a username and password. Any suggestions on how to have only one dialog appear would be greatly appreciated.

• How can I efficiently group a large list of URLs by their host name in Perl?

  I have text file that contains over one million URLs. I have to process this file in order to assign URLs to groups, based on host address: { 'http://www.ex1.com' = ['http://www.ex1.com/...', 'http://www.ex1.com/...', ...], 'http://www.ex2.com' = ['http://www.ex2.com/...', 'http://www.ex2.com/...', ...] } My current basic solution takes about 600 MB of RAM to do this (size of file is about 300 MB). Could you provide some more efficient ways? My current solution simply reads line by line, extracts host address by regex and puts the url into a hash.   I am trying to download a file from Sharepoint 2007 sp2 document library using GetItem method of the Copy webservice. I am facing the following issues : In the local instance ( Windows Vista ) I can save only 10.5 Kb of any file. The webservice is returning only 10.5 Kb of data for any file. On the production server, I am able to List the documents using some credentials but when I am trying to download a document using the same credentials I get a 401 : Unauthorized message. I can download the document using the Sharepoint website successfully.

  My Python Interpreter (v2.6.5) raises the above error in the following codepart: fd = open("some_filename", "r") fd.seek(-2, os.SEEK_END) #same happens if you exchange the second arg. w/ 2 data=fd.read(2); last call is fd.seek() Traceback (most recent call last): File "bot.py", line 250, in <module> fd.seek(iterator, os.SEEK_END); IOError: [Errno 22] Invalid argument The strange thing with this is that the exception occurs just when executing my entire code, not if only the specific part with the file opening. At the runtime of this part of code, the opened file definitely exists, disk is not full, the variable "iterator" contains a correct value like in the first codeblock. What could be my mistake? The application.xml has entries looking like: <module id="Core_JavaModule"> <java>APP-INF/lib/core.jar</java> </module> <module id="Public_WebModule"> <web> <web-uri>public.war</web-uri> <context-root>/</context-root> </web> </module> The core.jar is read in OK, but when it tries to read public.war, I get: org.jboss.deployment.DeploymentException: Failed to find module file: public.war I've confirmed that the war directory is there; it is an exploded war. Not a war file. Is JBoss looking for a war file? Or will it grok a war directory?

  Hi, I'm trying to use a custom UITableViewCell, and I've placed it in the same nib file as the UITableView controller. For this, the files are: NTItems.h, NTItems.m and NTItems.xib. I have defined the cell in the header file: IBOutlet UITableViewCell *cellview; and I've correctly applied the property: nonatomic, retain so it's there. In the m file - I've synthesized the variable device and am using this to get the custom cell: if(cell == nil){ cell = self.cellview; } However, when I load the table, I get this horrible mess: There should be more than 1 cell showing data as well. On another note, how do I map the labels to the text which is to be displayed?

• NSOutlineView with Drag and Drop

  I read the other post here on Outlineviews and DND, but I can't get my program to work. At the bottom of this post is a link to a zip of my project. Its very basic with only an outlineview and button. I want it to receive text files being dropped on it, but something is wrong with my code or connections. I tried following Apple's example code of their NSOutline Drag and Drop, but I'm missing something. 1 difference is my program is a document based program and their example isn't. I set the File's Owner to receive delegate actions, since that's where my code to handle drag and drop is, as well as a button action.   Hello, I am trying to use a textreader to retrieve data from a text file on a local machine. I have an upload routine to get the file for the reader to open. When I run the application locally, it works fine. When I publish my application to my server, I am getting a Could not find a part of the path error. I assume this error has to do with permission in that the server cannot read from the local file system, but I don't know the proper way to remedy this. do I set up the application to impersonate the user? I know I can't possibly set up each local users machine to allow the iusr account to access it. Thanks for any thoughts.
