• RSS reader that supports multiple google accounts?

  I've been looking around for an RSS reader that can handle more than 1 google account? I have multiple gmail addresses for different things in life. I separate mails this way and also RSS feeds. This works fine on google reader, but i would like to have a desktop app that can handle multiple accounts, like Thunderbird can handle multiple mail accounts. All the desktop clients I've found so far ask you for 1 google account and that's where it ends. You can't add anymore.

• dhcp client service won't start

  I have a Laptop with 2 network interfaces and neither will get an IP address through dhcp. I found out that the dhcp client service didn't start. Upon manually starting it gives the error 2: File not found. I have checked that the files were there (both svchost and dhcpcore .dll), the local service account has read access to the system32 folder, the path in the registry is also correct and I can access the file. I have tried to netsh winsock reset and ip reset all. I have even added the local service account to the administrators group. sfc /scannow also came up clean. I have no idea what else I can try. Any suggestions are welcome. (side note it's a windows 7 32 bit, atheros wlan, deinstalled avira before any of the other troubleshooting)

• Minimum rights to access the whole Users directory on another computer

  What is the minimum rights required to access the Users directory on another computer via an admin share? I have a batch file that writes some information to a few other computers using a path of \\%COMPUTERNAME%\c$\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming. The batch files run under an unprivileged user (part of Domain Users only). How do I set appropriate rights so that service account can access the AppData\Roaming folder for every user on another computer? I'd like to give rights lower than Local Admin, which I know will work. Things I've attempted: As Domain Admin, attempted to give Modify rights to the C:\Users\ directory on the local computer. Error: Access Denied. Set the service account as Local Admin on the other computer. This works, but is against IT policy where I work. I'd like to accomplish this with rights lower than Local Admin. Any suggestions?

• Logins with only HTTP - are they as insecure as I'm thinking?

  Recently I was thinking about how websites like gmail and amazon use HTTPS during the login process when accessing your account. This makes sense, obviously, since you're typing in your account username and password and you would want that to be secure. However, on Facebook, among countless other websites, their logins are done with simple HTTP. Doesn't that mean that my login name and password are completely unencrypted? Which, even worse, means that all those people who login to their facebooks (or similar sites) at a wifi hotspot in public are susceptible to anyone getting their credentials using a simple packet sniffer (or something similar)? Is it really that easy? Or am I misunderstanding internet security? I'm a software engineer working on some web related stuff, and although at the current time I'm not too involved with the security aspect of our software, I knew I should probably know the answer to this question, since it's extremely fundamental to website security. • Is there a Google Authenticator desktop client?

  I am using Google Authenticator for 2-step authentication. I like how I can use a code and verify my account using my phone: I realize that the app was designed to run on a device other than a computer to increase security for the computer (in case that it is lost or stolen), but I would like to know if there is a way I can run Google Authenticator on my Macbook. Now, per the Google Authenticator Page it will not run on a desktop: What devices does Google Authenticator work on? Android version 2.1 or later BlackBerry OS 4.5 - 6.0 iPhone iOS 3.1.3 or later However there are several emulators for developers and so I wonder if it is possible to run one of these emulators and then run Google Authenticator with that. I do realize this is not a best practice - but I'm less worried about my laptop getting stolen and more worried about someone just hacking the account. So my question is this: Is it possible to run it on the desktop, even though it is not meant to be / not recommended?

• Is it preferable to use POP or IMAP to check multiple google mail accounts from one?

  I have email accounts on several domains that use Google Mail, and thus far I've only ever used POP to send and receive mail from a single inbox. This is quite functional, and as long as I remember to select the appropriate FROM address when starting a new thread, mostly works without any additional thought: messages received on account A are replied to via account A, and so on. My only complaint is the lag -- I've seen sometimes as much as a half hour between messages arriving in an inbox before being imported into my primary inbox via POP. My question is this: Google also supports IMAP. Would that be in any way preferable over POP access? Reduced lag would be nice, but not at a general speed cost, if everything I do has to check another mailbox too.

• Windows, Apache and MSSQL Authentication

  I have a create database script written in perl. I remember it working just fine another machine. A couple years later using a Vista machine I am trying to use it again and it keeps failing. The main difference is that now I am using Apache instead of IIS. In the script the IUSR account is granted permissions as it needs to write to the database as a part of another program. IIS has been uninstalled on this machine but the IUSR account still exists. The NT AUTHORITY\IUSR is also seen in the logins drop down in MSSQL(2012). The machine is running Vista Home Edition. However when running the script I get errors that say that NT AUTHORITY\IUSR cannot be found. I tried also with COMPUTERNAME\IUSR just for the heck of it and of course it was not found. I also tried with IUSR alone and for some reason the user isn't being "found"? Any ideas?

• Why do I need to add my application pool identity to the IIS_IUSRS group?

  I'm setting up a .NET v4.0 web application on a Windows 2008 R2/IIS 7.5 server that uses a domain account for the application pool identity. When I access the site, I get the following error: The current identity () does not have write access to 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files' According to this: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/140/understanding-built-in-user-and-group-accounts-in-iis/ the identity of the worker process is added to the IIS_IUSRS group when the process starts. This seems to work fine for the existing .NET v2.0 applications I have running on the same server (I have not had to add their domain account application pool identities to IIS_IUSRS group). This does not seem to be the case for the first .NET v4.0 web application I'm setting up. Once I add the identity to the group, everything works fine. I suspect something is not configured correctly that is forcing me to do this. I would like to understand this before rolling out more sites/servers. Thanks in advance for your help...

• Access denied to EFS encrypted files after PC joins domain

  I'm experiencing strange behavior with Windows Encrypted File System: I have a machine that is in workgroup mode (not joined to a domain) I encrypt an entire directory structure on the machine (basically a folder and subfolders with data files for my application). My application writes and reads files from the encrypted file hierarchy as a local Windows user (let's call the account 'SecureUser'). This works fine I then join the PC to a domain (Let's call it 'TEST') Afterwards, processes running as the local 'SecureUser' account can't read the files it wrote originally when it was off the domain (What is also strange is that the files are listed as "read only" now and I cannot unset this flag via Windows Explorer or the command line, even though it looks like it succeeds) I then 'un-join' the PC from the domain and everything works again Is there something about changing domain membership on a PC that changes the behavior of EFS so that previously encrypted files cannot be read, even by the originating user? • How do I stop my IIS App Pool making a request to wpad.mydomain.com?

  As part of some performance troubleshooting, I've monitored the slow startup of a "cold" App Pool (one without an active worker process) in IIS. When using a built-in account, the App Pool starts in sub-second time. When using a custom local account the App Pool takes 30+ seconds to start processing requests. The service appears to be making requests to wpad.mydomain.com, an address it does not have access to, which causes it to wait 30 seconds for a response before eventually timing out. As a workaround, I've added the hostname to the server's hosts file, to direct the traffic to the local machine, which returns much faster (1-2 seconds). What do I need to do to stop IIS making this request when this identity is used for the App Pool?

• Exchange 2010 Prevent Authenticated Users From Sending Email From Any Address

  I have recently been combating an SMTP AUTH attack in which one of my email accounts had been compromised and was being used to solicit spam. I have been able to identify the account and change the password however I would like to further restrict my exchange server. By default exchange 2010 allows for any authenticated user to specify any email address as the MAIL FROM address and it will accept it. Is there any way to restrict this so that only the authenticated account's email address will be able to be used as the MAIL FROM address? I have been looking through all ADPermissions for the SMTP connector however I can't find any documentation on how to accomplish this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. • How to stop LDAP authentication in ubuntu?

  My OS is Ubuntu 12.04 and use LDAP authentication. Now I meet a problem that another people want to access my system. But he is in another domain so he can't login. And I have no right to change this configuration in LDAP server. So I have to choose a workaround to solve this problem, for example close the LDAP authentication and use local authentication (I have root right in my system) or create another account which is not registered in LDAP server (I did this but can't change the created account password. The error is 'password reset by root is not supported'). Of course any other suggestion is appreciated! Than you in advance!

• How to get a windows domain server to recognize a linux machine by its name?

  In my company I ran into an issue where we have a linux machine that serves up a Subversion repository. Its hooked up via LDAP to the Active Directory. We got an account setup for an application and they set the Limited Workstations up so it didn't have full access to the network. The problem is that even though the hostname for our machine resolves correctly for me, the credentials for the application account seem to come back as not being allowed based on the name (the error was related to authorized workstations). I don't have access to any of the domain servers but it might be helpful to come at the management or high-level techs with some ideas, they don't seem to have a solution besides allowing all workstations for the user. Does anyone have any idea on how to get my linux machine to properly identify itself with the Domain machine by name?

• Error 1069 the service did not start due to a logon failure

  Our CruiseControl.NET service on Win2003 Server (VMWare Virtual) was recently changed from a service account to a user account to allow for a new part of our build process to work. The new user has "Log on as a service" rights, verified by checking Local Security Settings - Local Policies - User Rights Assignment, and the user password is set to never expire. The problem I'm facing is every time the service is restarted, I get the 1069 error as described in this questions subject. I have to go into the properties of the service (log on tab) and re-enter the password, even though it hasn't changed, and the user already has the appropriate rights. Once I enter the password apply the changes, a prompt appears telling me that the user has been granted log on as a service rights. The service will then start will no problems. Not a show stopper, but a pain none-the-less. Why isn't the password persisting with the service?

• Log off as local "administrator" user, get blank login screen

  I have an imaged lab environment running Windows 7 and attached to a domain. The local Administrator account is enabled for certain maintenance and prep tasks. Every time I logoff from the local Administrator account, it brings me back to the standard Ctrl+Alt+Del login screen. When I press that combination, all the user controls vanish except for the accessibility button down in the left hand corner. The only way I can seem to escape from this is to tap the power button to initiate a shutdown. Windows is up-to-date, and logging off as any other user operates normally. The "hide last user" local security policy option is enabled. Has anyone seen this phenomenon before and how can I stop this from happening?

• How do I debug why an OSX key binding stopped working?

  Recently, I've realized that my ^A key binding has stopped working in OSX. My assumption is that some application has registered ^A as a hotkey, but I don't know that for certain. I don't recall installing anything new lately, but it's certainly possible that I did and just forgot. Some other pertinent info: ^A doesn't work in any application -- this isn't just a Terminal.app issue Other control combos (eg: ^E) still work as expected Looking through the Keyboard System Preferences pane shows nothing bound to ^A A reboot doesn't help However, logging into under a freshly made account does cause the issue to go away (i.e.: ^A works for the test account) My StandardKeyBinding.dict has the correct value for ^A Note: I don't have a DefaultKeyBinding.dict in /Library/KeyBindings or ~/Library/KeyBindings Any ideas on how to debug this?

I have created a Virtual Network and can see each of the 3 VMs as well as the host on the network. I can connect from each VM to the host using the admin account. However, what would be the best (secure) way to create connections/accounts between the VMs, presumabely this shouldn't be done with an admin account but one with lesser priveledges. For example, to be able to access the SQL Server VM from the IIS server VM?

  Im getting an error half way through an SQL Server 2008 r2 installation. The error states Not all privileges or groups referenced are assigned to the caller. it asks to retry or cancel. Upon trying both, the error message returns and I must cntrl-alt-delete to end the process. I have checked all permissions associated with local account, network domain account and ran installation as administrator. I have searched on the web and other people are having this problem too but I cant find a solution. so I turn to the experts, anyone encounter this error??

  I need to unmask I masked IP..that has hacked my account & a family members account(s)... Can anyone help me...I have know no Idea where to start and know nothing about even where to begin.   I have had a problem writing to a Samba share. I believe this person has the answer, but I do not know how to do this, does someone know how to do this? Thank you very much, On the Samba server, you need to ensure that the nobody user has write permissions to /Windows_Backups/DC. You're forcing everyone to be impersonated by the nobody account, so that account will need file-level permissions on that share directory. Samba will respect local permissions when figuring out who can write where, in this case it is somewhat like Windows.

  I wanted to restrict access of other people in a certain drive of my computer. What I did was go to the Security Tab (under Drive Properties) and remove the All Users entry. My account is an administrator account. I left only Systems and Administrator on the list. However, when I tried to access drive D, I got an Access Denied error, and Security Tab is already missing.i resolved the problem using safe mode way but i got another problem, I'd used command prompt to hide(attrib) a folder in drive D but i can't access it, though i can access all other files. • How can I access a shared Exchange mailbox with IMAP (over telnet)?

  I have an Mailbox which multiple users have access to, it works fine for me and I can add it in Outlook as an additional mailbox to my account and list all its content. I can access my personal mailbox using IMAP, I'm testing it by just telneting in and LIST'ing it. The problem is that another user trying to access it is having problems accessing it through IMAP; and I want to test if I can access the shared mailbox with my account - how can I do that in terms of IMAP commands? What I am doing now is: telnet mail.server 01 LOGIN user pass 02 LIST "" * 03 LOGOUT Edit: If there is another way to test this, that is an equally good answer.

• Cannot access https sites through any browser on Win XP?

  This isnt a firewall issue, I can telnet to gmail with no problems, but all browsers (chrome, IE, firefox) return a This web page is not available. error when tring to access it through the browser. I can access the same pages, using the same browsers, on the same machine, but through a different user account with no problem. What the hell is going on? Help appreciated. Edit: This is definitely a windows setup issue - I have just created a new admin account and can access https with problems. This is seriously infuriating.
