  • How to convert a .pdf file into a folder of images?

    - by Shawn
    I have some .pdf files that I would like to convert to my preferred reading format of .cbr or .cbz or, if this isn't directly possible, I need to extract all pages from the .pdf as images and then compress them into my format of choice. I have only been able to save pages one at a time with Document Viewer. Obviously, I'd like to do it a little quicker. I have tried pdfsam, pdf shuffler, and pdfmod all with no luck. I am using Ubuntu 11.10.

  • What Are All the Variables Necessary to Create Blackbox Logs for Nginx?

    - by Alan Gutierrez
    There's an article out there, Profiling LAMP Applications with Apache's Blackbox Logs, that describes how to create a log that records a lot of detailed information missing in the common and combined log formats. This information is supposed to help you resolve performance issues. As the author notes "While the common log-file format (and the combined format) are great for hit tracking, they aren't suitable for getting hardcore performance data." The article describes a "blackbox" log format, like a blackbox flight recorder on an aircraft, that gathers information used to profile server performance, missing from the hit tracking log formats: Keep alive status, remote port, child processes, bytes sent, etc. LogFormat "%a/%S %X %t \"%r\" %s/%>s %{pid}P/%{tid}P %T/%D %I/%O/%B" blackbox I'm trying to recreate as much of the format for Nginx, and would like help filling in the blanks. Here's what Nginx blackbox format would look like, the unmapped Apache directives have question marks after their names. access_log blackbox '$remote_addr/$remote_port X? [$time_local] "$request"' 's?/$status $pid/0 T?/D? I?/O?/B?' Here's a table of the variables I've been able to map from the Nginx documentation. %a = $remote_addr - The IP address of the remote client. %S = $remote_port - The port of the remote client. %X = ? - Keep alive status. %t = $time_local - The start time of the request. %r = $request - The first line of request containing method verb, path and protocol. %s = ? - Status before any redirections. %>s = $status - Status after any redirections. %{pid}P = $pid - The process id. %{tid}P = N/A - The thread id, which is non-applicable to Nignx. %T = ? - The time in seconds to handle the request. %D = ? - The time in milliseconds to handle the request. %I = ? - The count of bytes received including headers. %O = ? - The count of bytes sent including headers. %B = ? - The count of bytes sent excluding headers, but with a 0 for none instead of '-'. Looking for help filling in the missing variables, or confirmation that the missing variables are in fact, unavailable in Nginx.

  • Redirect/Rewrite Subdomain to Subfolder

    - by Laurent Ho
    I'm trying to redirect a subdomain to a subfolder e.g. forums.domain.com to www.domain.com/forums Note that I started the forums in the subfolder format but worried that members might mistakenly try to access the forums using the subdomain format. RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?forums\.domain\.com RewriteRule .* /forums [L] From what I read the codes above should work through .htaccess, but do I still need to create a DNS A record to point to the IP address of the server?

  • Webinar: SQL Server Compression Technologies

    - by Greg Low
    A while back, we changed the format of our monthly SQL PASS meetings to a virtual format for most meetings, as it makes it easier for a lot of people to attend.Tomorrow (lunch time Melbourne time), I'm delivering another one on compression technologies in SQL Server. In this session, we'll take a tour through vardecimal in 2005, then onto row and page compression in 2008, then xVelocity based compression in 2012, and finally looking at what 2014 offers in this regard.We have a limit on the number of attendees so please don't register if you can't make it but if you can, we'd love to see you online.https://www4.gotomeeting.com/register/163499127

  • Phone number mask in a DataView WebPart (DVWP)

    - by PeterBrunone
    This came up today on the [sharepointdiscussions] list.  A user needed to display a read-only field in a phone number format; it's pretty simple, but it may be just what you need.Assuming your list item contains a field called "Phone Number" (with a space), the following XPath will give you a number in the classic US telephone format: <xsl:value-of select="concat('(',substring(@Phone_x0020_Number,1,3),')',substring(@Phone_x0020_Number,4,3),'-',substring(@Phone_x0020_Number,7,4))" /> If you need to mask an input, try this jQuery solution.

  • Silverlight and WCF caching

    - by subodhnpushpak
    There are scenarios where Silverlight client calls WCF (or REST) service for data. Now, if the data is cached on the WCF layer, the calls can take considerable resources at the server if NOT cached. Keeping that in mind along with the fact that cache is an cross-cutting aspect, and therefore it should be as easy as possible to put Cache wherever required. The good thing about the solution is that it caches based on the inputs. The input can be basic type of any complex type. If input changes the data is fetched and then cached for further used. If same input is provided again, data id fetched from the cache. The cache logic itself is implemented as PostSharp aspect, and it is as easy as putting an attribute over service call to switch on cache. Notice how clean the code is:        [OperationContract]       [CacheOnArgs(typeof(int))] // based on actual value of cache        public string DoWork(int value)        {            return string.Format("You entered: {0} @ cached time {1}", value, System.DateTime.Now);        } The cache is implemented as POST Sharp as below 1: public override void OnInvocation(MethodInvocationEventArgs eventArgs) 2: { 3: try 4: { 5: object value = new object(); 6: object[] args = eventArgs.GetArgumentArray(); 7: if (args != null || args.Count() > 0) 8: { 9:   10: string key = string.Format("{0}_{1}", eventArgs.Method.Name, XMLUtility<object>.GetDataContractXml(args[0], null));// Compute the cache key (details omitted). 11:   12: 13: value = GetFromCache(key); 14: if (value == null) 15: { 16: eventArgs.Proceed(); 17: value = XMLUtility<object>.GetDataContractXml(eventArgs.ReturnValue, null); 18: value = eventArgs.ReturnValue; 19: AddToCache(key, value); 20: return; 21: } 22:   23:   24: Log(string.Format("Data returned from Cache {0}",value)); 25: eventArgs.ReturnValue = value; 26: } 27: } 28: catch (Exception ex) 29: { 30: //ApplicationLogger.LogException(ex.Message, Source.UtilityService); 31: } 32: } 33:   34: private object GetFromCache(string inputKey) { if (ServerConfig.CachingEnabled) { return WCFCache.Current[inputKey]; } return null; }private void AddToCache(string inputKey,object outputValue) 35: { 36: if (ServerConfig.CachingEnabled) 37: { 38: if (WCFCache.Current.CachedItemsNumber < ServerConfig.NumberOfCachedItems) 39: { 40: if (ServerConfig.SlidingExpirationTime <= 0 || ServerConfig.SlidingExpirationTime == int.MaxValue) 41: { 42: WCFCache.Current[inputKey] = outputValue; 43: } 44: else 45: { 46: WCFCache.Current.Insert(inputKey, outputValue, new TimeSpan(0, 0, ServerConfig.SlidingExpirationTime), true); 47:   48: // _bw.DoWork += bw_DoWork; 49: //string arg = string.Format("{0}|{1}", inputKey,outputValue); 50: //_bw.RunWorkerAsync(inputKey ); 51: } 52: } 53: } 54: }     The cache class can be extended to support Velocity / memcahe / Nache. the attribute can be used over REST services as well. Hope the above helps. Here is the code base for the same.   Please do provide your inputs / comments.

  • Copying Properties between 2 Different Types&hellip;

    - by Shawn Cicoria
    I’m not sure where I had seen some of this base code, but this comes up time & time again on projects. Here’s a little method that copies all the R/W properties (public) between 2 distinct class definitions: It’s called as follows: private static void Test1() { MyClass obj1 = new MyClass() { Prop1 = "one", Prop2 = "two", Prop3 = 100 }; MyOtherClass obj2 = null; obj2 = CopyClass(obj1); Console.WriteLine(obj1); Console.WriteLine(obj2); } namespace Space1 { public class MyClass { public string Prop1 { get; set; } public string Prop2 { get; set; } public int Prop3 { get; set; } public override string ToString() { var rv = string.Format("MyClass: {0} Prop2: {1} Prop3 {2}", Prop1, Prop2, Prop3); return rv; } } } namespace Space2 { public class MyOtherClass { public string Prop1 { get; set; } public string Prop2 { get; set; } public int Prop3 { get; set; } public override string ToString() { var rv = string.Format("MyOtherClass: {0} Prop2: {1} Prop3 {2}", Prop1, Prop2, Prop3); return rv; } } Source of the method: /// /// Provides a Copy of Public fields between 2 distinct classes /// /// Source class name /// Target class name /// Instance of type Source /// An instance of type Target copying all public properties matching name from the Source. public static T CopyClass(S source) where T : new() { T target = default(T); BindingFlags flags = BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Instance; if (source == null) { return (T)target; } if (target == null) target = new T(); PropertyInfo[] objProperties = target.GetType().GetProperties(flags); foreach (PropertyInfo pi in objProperties) { string name = pi.Name; PropertyInfo sourceProp = source.GetType().GetProperty(name, flags); if (sourceProp == null) { throw new ApplicationException(string.Format("CopyClass - object type {0} & {1} mismatch in property:{2}", source.GetType(), target.GetType(), name)); } if (pi.CanWrite && sourceProp.CanRead) { object sourceValue = sourceProp.GetValue(source, null); pi.SetValue(target, sourceValue, null); } else { throw new ApplicationException(string.Format("CopyClass - can't read/write a property object types {0} & {1} property:{2}", source.GetType(), target.GetType(), name)); } } return target; }

  • How to Export a Contact to and Import a Contact from a vCard (.vcf) File in Outlook 2013

    - by Lori Kaufman
    vCard is the abbreviation for Virtual Business Card and is the standard format (.vcf files) for electronic business cards. vCards allow you to create and share contact information over the internet, such as in email messages and instant messaging. You can also use vCards to move contact information from one email or personal information management program to another, as long as both programs support the .vcf file format. vCards can contain name and address information, as well as phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, images, and audio clips. We will show you how to export a contact to and import a contact from a vCard, or .vcf file, in Outlook. First access the People section by clicking People at the bottom of the Outlook window. To view your contact in business card format, click Business Card in the Current View section of the Home tab. Select a contact by clicking on the name bar at the top of the business card. To export the selected contact as a vCard, click the File tab. On the Account Information screen, click Save As in the list of options on the left. The Save As dialog box displays. By default, the name of the contact is used to name the .vcf file in the File name edit box. Change the name, if desired, select a location for the file, and click Save. The contact is saved as a .vcf file. To import a vCard, or .vcf file, into Outlook, simply double-click on the .vcf file. By default, .vcf files are automatically associated with Outlook, so the file is opened in Outlook as a Contact. Make any changes or additions to the contact in the contact editing window. To save the contact, click Save & Close in the Actions section of the Contact tab. NOTE: Notice that because this contact is new, the full contact editing window displays rather than the Contact Card that displays when double-clicking on a contact. You can open the full contact editing window instead of the Contact Card when editing a contact or searching for a contact. The contact is added to the Contacts folder. You can add your contact information to a signature in business card format, and it will display as shown above in emails. We have covered how to create signatures and will be discussing more about signatures and business cards in Outlook.

  • How can I combine my FTP queries? [migrated]

    - by ryansworld10
    My program has several times where it queries an FTP server to read and upload information. How can I combine all these into one FTP class to handle everything? private static void UploadToFTP(string[] FTPSettings) { try { FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(FTPSettings[0]); request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.MakeDirectory; request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(FTPSettings[1], FTPSettings[2]); FtpWebResponse response = (FtpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); } catch { } try { FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(FTPSettings[0] + Path.GetFileName(file)); request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.UploadFile; request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(FTPSettings[1], FTPSettings[2]); StreamReader source = new StreamReader(file); byte[] fileContents = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(source.ReadToEnd()); source.Close(); request.ContentLength = fileContents.Length; Stream requestStream = request.GetRequestStream(); requestStream.Write(fileContents, 0, fileContents.Length); requestStream.Close(); FtpWebResponse response = (FtpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); response.Close(); RegenLog(); } catch (Exception e) { File.AppendAllText(file, string.Format("{0}{0}Upload Failed - ({2}) - {1}{0}", nl, System.DateTime.Now, e.Message.ToString())); } } private static void CheckBlacklist(string[] FTPSettings) { try { FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(FTPSettings[0] + "blacklist.txt"); request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(FTPSettings[1], FTPSettings[2]); using (WebResponse response = request.GetResponse()) { using (Stream stream = response.GetResponseStream()) { using (TextReader reader = new StreamReader(stream)) { string blacklist = reader.ReadToEnd(); if (blacklist.Contains(Environment.UserName)) { File.AppendAllText(file, string.Format("{0}{0}Logger terminated - ({2}) - {1}{0}", nl, System.DateTime.Now, "Blacklisted")); uninstall = true; } } } } } catch (Exception e) { File.AppendAllText(file, string.Format("{0}{0}FTP Error - ({2}) - {1}{0}", nl, System.DateTime.Now, e.Message.ToString())); } } private static void CheckUpdate(string[] FTPSettings) { try { FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(FTPSettings[0] + "update.txt"); request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(FTPSettings[1], FTPSettings[2]); using (WebResponse response = request.GetResponse()) { using (Stream stream = response.GetResponseStream()) { using (TextReader reader = new StreamReader(stream)) { string newVersion = reader.ReadToEnd(); if (newVersion != version) { update = true; } } } } } catch (Exception e) { File.AppendAllText(file, string.Format("{0}{0}FTP Error - ({2}) - {1}{0}", nl, System.DateTime.Now, e.Message.ToString())); } } I know my code is also a bit inconsistent and messy, however this is my first time working with FTP in C#. Please give any advice you have!

  • The Partner Perspective from Oracle OpenWorld 2012 - IDC’s Darren Bibby report

    - by Richard Lefebvre
    Below is IDC’s Darren Bibby report on ‘The Partner Perspective from Oracle OpenWorld 2012’. If you missed the 2012 edition, I trust this will give you the willingness to attend next year one! October 26, 2012 I attended my fourth Oracle OpenWorld earlier in October. I always go in with the lens of, "What's in it for partners this year?" Although it's primarily thought of as a customer event - and yes, the bulk of the almost 50,000 attendees are customers - this year's conference was clearly the largest and most important partner event Oracle has ever run. Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) Exchange There were more partner attendees than ever, with Oracle citing somewhere around 5000. But the format for partners this year was different. And it was better. Traditionally, Oracle hosts a one-day only Partner Forum on the Sunday before the customer-focused conference begins. This year, the partner content still began on the Sunday, but the worldwide alliances and channels group created an exclusive track throughout the week, just for partners. It featured content specifically targeted towards partners, and was anchored at a nearby hotel. This was a great move for Oracle. The Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) team has been in a tricky position for years in that they have enough partners that they need a landmark event in the year, but perhaps not enough to justify a separate, worldwide, large, partner-only event. Coinciding a four day event with Oracle OpenWorld, where anybody who's anybody in the Oracle world attends anyway, is a good solution. The channels leadership team can build from this success for an even better conference next year. It's expected that they will follow a similar strategy. Cloud Announcements for Partners As for the content, it was primarily about the Cloud. For customers, for VARs, for ISVs, for everyone. There were five key Cloud related announcements for partners at the event: Cloud Builder Specialization. This is one of the first broader Specializations that isn't focused on one unique product. It is a designation for partners that offer design and implementation services for private cloud solutions. As such, it will surely be something that nearly every partner will consider, and many will pursue. New Specializations for Cloud Services. Unlike the broad, almost "strategy-level" Specialization above, there are a group of new product-based "merit badges" for many of the new Cloud offerings. Think about a Specialization for the Cloud version of HCM, for instance. Each of these particular specializations will also have Rapid Start implementation methodologies that allow a partner to offer a fixed scope and fixed price bid to customers. Based on the learnings from Oracle Consulting, this means a partner might be able to deliver Cloud HCM in six weeks for a fixed price. In the end, this means more consistent experiences for Oracle customers. Cloud Resale Program. For those partners who achieve one of these Cloud Specializations, it will mean they can actually resell the subscription-based Cloud product. This is important because it has been somewhat of a rarity in the emerging Cloud channel for partners to be able to "take the paper", take the revenue, do the billing, be first line of support etc. This is an important step for Oracle and one the partners will be happy to see. Cloud Referral Program. For those partners who are not as engaged with these specific Cloud products that the Specializations revolve around, there is a new referral program that provides an incentive to recommend Oracle Cloud products. This one-two punch of referral and resale programs is similar in many ways to other vendors who allow more committed partners to resell, while more casual partners can collect fees. It's the model that seems to work. The key to allow a company to resell a subscription product - something that is inherently delivered directly between the vendor and customer - is trust. Achieving a specialization is a good bar to have to meet. Platform as a Service for ISVs. Leveraging some of the overall announcements made by CEO Larry Ellison around a cloud version of its famous database, Oracle also outlined a new ability for ISVs to build cloud services on its new PaaS offering. Details were less available for this announcement, though it's an expected and fitting play for ISVs comfortable with Oracle technology who can now more easily build out cloud applications. There wasn't much talk of an app store to go along with this, but surely it's in the works. Specializations And "The Gap" Coming back to Specializations, Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) has 4600 partners worldwide that hold 20,000 Specializations. These are impressive numbers just three years into the new OPN framework. The actual number of Specializations has also grown significantly, up to 111 today and soon around 125 or so with the new Cloud designations. Oracle may need to look at grouping some of these and creating higher level, broader designations that partners could achieve by earning several Specializations in that group. At 125 and growing, this is a lot. On the top of the pyramid, Hitachi Ltd. successfully became the eleventh partner to make it to the highly prestigious Diamond level. Partner programs partially exist in order to recognize capable partners. And it's more than abundantly clear that the Diamond level does this. But I think Oracle has a gap. Specializations show capability in a very specific product area, and all sizes of partners can achieve these. The next level at which to show a level of expertise is the Advanced Specialization. However, this is a massive step up from the regular Specialization. The advanced level requires 50 people to have certification in that particular product area. Most other industry programs have similar higher level statuses, but none are even close to that number. Whereas a customer who sees an Oracle partner with an advanced specialization can be very sure of capability, there is a gap in that there are hundreds or even thousands of 20-50 person solution providers who are top notch in their area of expertise. They will never get to Advanced due to numbers alone. These boutique partners don't really have a way of showing off their talents in the current program. Advanced may not need to be so high to really show that a company has deep expertise. Overall it was a very successful Oracle OpenWorld for Oracle partners of all sizes. There was progress made on making it a bigger and more relevant event. And also on catching up and maybe even leading in some cases with cloud opportunities for partners.

  • EM12c: Using the LIST verb in emcli

    - by SubinDaniVarughese
    Many of us who use EM CLI to write scripts and automate our daily tasks should not miss out on the new list verb released with Oracle Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.3.0. The combination of list and Jython based scripting support in EM CLI makes it easier to achieve automation for complex tasks with just a few lines of code. Before I jump into a script, let me highlight the key attributes of the list verb and why it’s simply excellent! 1. Multiple resources under a single verb:A resource can be set of users or targets, etc. Using the list verb, you can retrieve information about a resource from the repository database.Here is an example which retrieves the list of administrators within EM.Standard mode$ emcli list -resource="Administrators" Interactive modeemcli>list(resource="Administrators")The output will be the same as standard mode.Standard mode$ emcli @myAdmin.pyEnter password :  ******The output will be the same as standard mode.Contents of myAdmin.py scriptlogin()print list(resource="Administrators",jsonout=False).out()To get a list of all available resources use$ emcli list -helpWith every release of EM, more resources are being added to the list verb. If you have a resource which you feel would be valuable then go ahead and contact Oracle Support to log an enhancement request with product development. Be sure to say how the resource is going to help improve your daily tasks. 2. Consistent Formatting:It is possible to format the output of any resource consistently using these options:  –column  This option is used to specify which columns should be shown in the output. Here is an example which shows the list of administrators and their account status$ emcli list -resource="Administrators" -columns="USER_NAME,REPOS_ACCOUNT_STATUS" To get a list of columns in a resource use:$ emcli list -resource="Administrators" -help You can also specify the width of the each column. For example, here the column width of user_type is set to 20 and department to 30. $ emcli list -resource=Administrators -columns="USER_NAME,USER_TYPE:20,COST_CENTER,CONTACT,DEPARTMENT:30"This is useful if your terminal is too small or you need to fine tune a list of specific columns for your quick use or improved readability.  –colsize  This option is used to resize column widths.Here is the same example as above, but using -colsize to define the width of user_type to 20 and department to 30.$ emcli list -resource=Administrators -columns="USER_NAME,USER_TYPE,COST_CENTER,CONTACT,DEPARTMENT" -colsize="USER_TYPE:20,DEPARTMENT:30" The existing standard EMCLI formatting options are also available in list verb. They are: -format="name:pretty" | -format="name:script” | -format="name:csv" | -noheader | -scriptThere are so many uses depending on your needs. Have a look at the resources and columns in each resource. Refer to the EMCLI book in EM documentation for more information.3. Search:Using the -search option in the list verb makes it is possible to search for a specific row in a specific column within a resource. This is similar to the sqlplus where clause. The following operators are supported:           =           !=           >           <           >=           <=           like           is (Must be followed by null or not null)Here is an example which searches for all EM administrators in the marketing department located in the USA.$emcli list -resource="Administrators" -search="DEPARTMENT ='Marketing'" -search="LOCATION='USA'" Here is another example which shows all the named credentials created since a specific date.  $emcli list -resource=NamedCredentials -search="CredCreatedDate > '11-Nov-2013 12:37:20 PM'"Note that the timestamp has to be in the format DD-MON-YYYY HH:MI:SS AM/PM Some resources need a bind variable to be passed to get output. A bind variable is created in the resource and then referenced in the command. For example, this command will list all the default preferred credentials for target type oracle_database.Here is an example$ emcli list -resource="PreferredCredentialsDefault" -bind="TargetType='oracle_database'" -colsize="SetName:15,TargetType:15" You can provide multiple bind variables. To verify if a column is searchable or requires a bind variable, use the –help option. Here is an example:$ emcli list -resource="PreferredCredentialsDefault" -help 4. Secure accessWhen list verb collects the data, it only displays content for which the administrator currently logged into emcli, has access. For example consider this usecase:AdminA has access only to TargetA. AdminA logs into EM CLIExecuting the list verb to get the list of all targets will only show TargetA.5. User defined SQLUsing the –sql option, user defined sql can be executed. The SQL provided in the -sql option is executed as the EM user MGMT_VIEW, which has read-only access to the EM published MGMT$ database views in the SYSMAN schema. To get the list of EM published MGMT$ database views, go to the Extensibility Programmer's Reference book in EM documentation. There is a chapter about Using Management Repository Views. It’s always recommended to reference the documentation for the supported MGMT$ database views.  Consider you are using the MGMT$ABC view which is not in the chapter. During upgrade, it is possible, since the view was not in the book and not supported, it is likely the view might undergo a change in its structure or the data in it. Using a supported view ensures that your scripts using -sql will continue working after upgrade.Here’s an example  $ emcli list -sql='select * from mgmt$target' 6. JSON output support    JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) enables data to be displayed in a collection of name/value pairs. There is lot of reading material about JSON on line for more information.As an example, we had a requirement where an EM administrator had many 11.2 databases in their test environment and the developers had requested an Administrator to change the lifecycle status from Test to Production which meant the admin had to go to the EM “All targets” page and identify the set of 11.2 databases and then to go into each target database page and manually changes the property to Production. Sounds easy to say, but this Administrator had numerous targets and this task is repeated for every release cycle.We told him there is an easier way to do this with a script and he can reuse the script whenever anyone wanted to change a set of targets to a different Lifecycle status. Here is a jython script which uses list and JSON to change all 11.2 database target’s LifeCycle Property value.If you are new to scripting and Jython, I would suggest visiting the basic chapters in any Jython tutorials. Understanding Jython is important to write the logic depending on your usecase.If you are already writing scripts like perl or shell or know a programming language like java, then you can easily understand the logic.Disclaimer: The scripts in this post are subject to the Oracle Terms of Use located here.  1 from emcli import *  2  search_list = ['PROPERTY_NAME=\'DBVersion\'','TARGET_TYPE= \'oracle_database\'','PROPERTY_VALUE LIKE \'11.2%\'']  3 if len(sys.argv) == 2:  4    print login(username=sys.argv[0])  5    l_prop_val_to_set = sys.argv[1]  6      l_targets = list(resource="TargetProperties", search=search_list,   columns="TARGET_NAME,TARGET_TYPE,PROPERTY_NAME")  7    for target in l_targets.out()['data']:  8       t_pn = 'LifeCycle Status'  9      print "INFO: Setting Property name " + t_pn + " to value " +       l_prop_val_to_set + " for " + target['TARGET_NAME']  10      print  set_target_property_value(property_records=      target['TARGET_NAME']+":"+target['TARGET_TYPE']+":"+      t_pn+":"+l_prop_val_to_set)  11  else:  12   print "\n ERROR: Property value argument is missing"  13   print "\n INFO: Format to run this file is filename.py <username>   <Database Target LifeCycle Status Property Value>" You can download the script from here. I could not upload the file with .py extension so you need to rename the file to myScript.py before executing it using emcli.A line by line explanation for beginners: Line  1 Imports the emcli verbs as functions  2 search_list is a variable to pass to the search option in list verb. I am using escape character for the single quotes. In list verb to pass more than one value for the same option, you should define as above comma separated values, surrounded by square brackets.  3 This is an “if” condition to ensure the user does provide two arguments with the script, else in line #15, it prints an error message.  4 Logging into EM. You can remove this if you have setup emcli with autologin. For more details about setup and autologin, please go the EM CLI book in EM documentation.  5 l_prop_val_to_set is another variable. This is the property value to be set. Remember we are changing the value from Test to Production. The benefit of this variable is you can reuse the script to change the property value from and to any other values.  6 Here the output of the list verb is stored in l_targets. In the list verb I am passing the resource as TargetProperties, search as the search_list variable and I only need these three columns – target_name, target_type and property_name. I don’t need the other columns for my task.  7 This is a for loop. The data in l_targets is available in JSON format. Using the for loop, each pair will now be available in the ‘target’ variable.  8 t_pn is the “LifeCycle Status” variable. If required, I can have this also as an input and then use my script to change any target property. In this example, I just wanted to change the “LifeCycle Status”.  9 This a message informing the user the script is setting the property value for dbxyz.  10 This line shows the set_target_property_value verb which sets the value using the property_records option. Once it is set for a target pair, it moves to the next one. In my example, I am just showing three dbs, but the real use is when you have 20 or 50 targets. The script is executed as:$ emcli @myScript.py subin Production The recommendation is to first test the scripts before running it on a production system. We tested on a small set of targets and optimizing the script for fewer lines of code and better messaging.For your quick reference, the resources available in Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.4.0 with list verb are:$ emcli list -helpWatch this space for more blog posts using the list verb and EM CLI Scripting use cases. I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post and it has helped you gain more information about the list verb. Happy Scripting!!Disclaimer: The scripts in this post are subject to the Oracle Terms of Use located here. • WMI Remote Process Starting

    - by Goober
    Scenario I've written a WMI Wrapper that seems to be quite sufficient, however whenever I run the code to start a remote process on a server, I see the process name appear in the task manager but the process itself does not start like it should (as in, I don't see the command line log window of the process that prints out what it's doing etc.) The process I am trying to start is just a C# application executable that I have written. Below is my WMI Wrapper Code and the code I am using to start running the process. Question Is the process actually running? - Even if it is only displaying the process name in the task manager and not actually launching the application to the users window? • Formatting a truecrypt volume on windows: Truecrypt failed to obtain administrator privileges

    - by daveh551
    Following shaneselman's advice (http://www.hanselman.com/blog/TheComputerBackupRuleOfThree.aspx), I'm setting up a 2TB external drive as a backup, and encrypting it using TrueCrypt. This is under Windows 7. (I've used TrueCrypt before, but not since XP days.) I installed TrueCrypt with default options. After taking 23 hours to format the 2TB container, it finishes with an error saying "TrueCrypt cannot obtain administrator privileges." When I click OK on that, it says it can't format the container as NTFS, do I want to format it as FAT, and I don't so I click No, and it exits with nothing to show for 23 hours of compute time. So I set the "Run as administrator flag" on the TrueCrypt shortcut, and try again. This time, when I go to format the contain (prepared to wait ANOTHER 23 hours), it pops up a dialog saying you're formatting this as administrator. "The volume may be created with permissions that will not allow you to write to the volume when it is mounted. If you want to avoid that, close this instance of Volume Creation Wizard and launch a new one without administrator privileges." Great - I can either run as non-administrator, and it will fail to create the volume at all, or I can run as administrator and create a volume I can't write to. I think I'm doing something wrong, but it's not clear to me what. Any help?

  • How to rescue from an SD (SDHC) card that I can't reformat (possible hardware failure)

    - by sbwoodside
    I have a transcend 16GB SDHC card and a lot of photos on it that I'd like to recover. When I plug it into the SD card reader, it takes a while for the Mac to even recognize that there's a disk present, and it shows up as 1.07GB with geometry 520/64/63 (according to fdisk). First I tried file recovery: PhotoRec: no files are found (the images are in CR2 format and I'm using testdisk-6.14-WIP which claims to recognize that format under TIF) dd / ddrescue: they create a 1.07GB image, same problem as above TestDisk: doesn't find any partitions to recover I found a source saying that the correct geometry for this type of SD Card is Heads 255, Sectors/Track 63, Cylinders 1953, so I tried manually setting that geometry in PhotoRec/TestDisk. No improvement. Next I tried formatting the disk with fdisk. After writing and quitting, I ran fdisk again and it reported that the new format hadn't been saved on the disk. I also tried resetting the format/partitions with TestDisk and that failed also. The fdisk log is below. I don't really care about the card, I've already ordered a new SanDisk card. But I'd like to get the data off. Maybe, is there any way to force dd or some other tool to create an image of the disk based on the original geometry and not on what the card "thinks" its geometry is? Or am I missing something?

  • Change the Default Date setting in Word 2010

    - by Chris
    I am using Word 2010 and Windows 7. You know how when you start typing a date in Word it will automatically suggest what it thinks you want? Like if I start typing “6/29”, a little grey bubble will display “6/29/13 (Press ENTER to Insert)”. How do I get it so the bubble will display the year in a 4 digit format, such as "6/29/2013 (Press Enter to Insert)"? The below picture is how it looks when typing a date into Word. I have already gone to the Date & Time option under the Insert menu and the date format that I want is already selected. I think this is only for using quickparts anyway, so the date automatically updates when you open a document. The Region and Language settings under the Control Panel are correct as well. I thought at one point I found it somewhere under options, but I am sure I looked through everything many times and I can’t find it. I posted this exact question at the Microsoft website and someone replied: Go to the Windows Control Panel and click on Clock, Language and Region and then on Change the date, time, or number format and then modify the Short date format so that it is what you want to be used. So please don't suggest this again, because in my question I did say that I already tried this and it doesn't work, at least not for Word, in this situation. Thanks.

  • Firefox not displaying icons in KhanAcademy

    - by ADTC
    If you don't know what Khan Academy is, check it out. It's awesome. (For testing purpose you may view any video on the website.) My problem -- it's a minor problem, but annoying -- is that in Firefox (Windows 7), the icons below the video are shown as boxes with hex codes in them. This means the icons come from some font that isn't getting downloaded by Firefox. How it appears on Chrome (Windows 7), Safari (Mac OS X) and Stainless (Mac OS X): I checked out the source and found that the font in question is called "FontAwesome". I found this question in S.O. that may explain why this happens -- the CSS does use single quotes to enclose the font's src location. However I don't have any write access to Khan Academy servers so I can't modify the actual website. I want to know if this can be fixed in Firefox, and how. I can run Greasemonkey scripts if that would help. Also, would manually downloading the font and adding it to Windows' Fonts folder help? I tried this with the TTF font, and it does not help. For reference, the CSS that sets this font up (not processed properly by Firefox) is: @font-face { font-family:'FontAwesome'; src:url('./fontawesome-webfont.eot'); src:url('./fontawesome-webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), url('./fontawesome-webfont.woff') format('woff'), url('./fontawesome-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'), url('./fontawesome-webfont.svg#FontAwesome') format('svg'); font-weight:normal; font-style:normal } [class^="icon-"]:before, [class*=" icon-"]:before { font-family:FontAwesome; font-weight:normal; font-style:normal; display:inline-block; text-decoration:inherit }

  • Firefox cannot render icons from Font Awesome webfont set

    - by ADTC
    In Firefox (Windows 7), icons and glyphs that are called from the Font Awesome package do not render properly. An example of this can be seen on the Khan Academy website. Below the video the icons are shown as boxes with hex codes in them. This means that it isn't getting downloaded by Firefox. How it appears on Chrome (Windows 7), Safari (Mac OS X) and Stainless (Mac OS X): I found this question on Stack Overflow that may explain why this happens -- the CSS does use single quotes to enclose the font's src location. However, I don't have any write access to Khan Academy servers so I can't modify the actual website. I want to know if this can be fixed in Firefox, and how. I can run Greasemonkey scripts if that would help. I've already tried manually downloading the font and adding it to Windows' Fonts folder but this does not help. • No partition on USB Flash Drive?

    - by Skytunnel
    A friend gave me a corrupted USB memory stick to try recovery data from. But I've had some unusual results, so thought I'd share to see if anyone is familiar with this problem... First off I just tried opening from my own PC. Windows prompted to Format the drive, which I of course declined Downloaded TestDisk to anaylsis the drive. And right away I noticed something strange, on the listed drives it comes up as Disk /dev/sdc - 6144 B - USB Flash Drive That's right, the first USB flash drive smaller than a floppy disk!? Moving on anyway... first anaylsis comes up with: Partition sector doesn't have the endmark 0xAA55 TestDisk's Quick Search gave no results, moved on to Deeper Search: No partition found or selected for recovery This left me stumped. I tired a couple of other programs with no success I did manage to get a backup image, but it was just as small as TestDisk indicated, so nothing of use on it After a few hours trying various suggestions from other sources, I gave in and just tried formatting the drive. But returned the message: Windows was unable to complete the format. From googling that, the suggestion was to delete the partition. But there is no partition to delete in this case. most recently I've tried formatting from cmd, and got this result: Format D: /FS:FAT32 The type of the file system is RAW The new file system is FAT32 Verifying 0M 11 bad sectors were encountered during the format. These sectors cannot be guaranteed to have been cleaned The volume is too small for FAT32 Anyone got any suggestions? UPDATE: As per suggestion from @Karen, I tried running a CLEAN from DISKPART, results as follows DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be preformed because of an I/O device error.
