  Hi All I have a scenario whereby I require users to be able to authenticate against an ASP.NET MVC web application using either Windows authentication or Forms authentication. If the user is on the internal network they will use Windows authentication and if they are connecting externally they will use Forms authentication. I’ve seen quite a few people asking the question how do I configure an ASP.NET MVC web application for this, but I haven’t found a complete explanation.   So I have a little bit of a problem. I working on a project in C# using The StackOveflow API. You can send it a request like so: http://stackoverflow.com/users/rep/126196/2010-01-01/2010-03-13 And get back something like this JSON response: [{"PostUrl":"1167342", "PostTitle":"Are ref and out in C# the same a pointers in C++?", "Rep":10}, {"PostUrl":"1290595", "PostTitle":"Where can I find a good tutorial on bubbling?", "Rep":10} ... So my problem is that I have some methods like GetJsonResponse() which return the above JSON and SaveTempFile() which saves that JSON response to a temporary file for later use. I not sure if I should create a class for them, or what namespace to put them under. Right now my current namespace hierarchy is like so: StackOverflow.Api.Json. So how should I organize these methods/classes/namespaces?

• Android app to remote control Samsung Smart TVs

  Smart TV Remote is an unofficial Android app that lets you control Samsung Smart TVs connected over a local WiFi network. This app comes very handy when you want to control your TV which is not in line of sight of your TV remote control or just want to use your mobile phone/tablet to control the TV. Setting up a TV  is very easy using auto scan feature . Once the TV is setup, you are all set to start using the app as a remote control. A traditional remote controls makes use of infra red technology and it needs to be in the line of sight of the TV receiver to work. But this app make use of WiFi technology which give it flexibility of controlling the TV as long as the mobile & TV is connected to WiFi network. It just works even if the TV is behind a wall. The App provides very easy to use options to switch between channels and separate remotes with media controls, smart hub features and a numeric key pad if you want to navigate to a channel through its number. The App also provides a home screen widget with volume controls and channel navigation options. I use  this App to control Samsung E Series Smart Tv at home and it works very well. I’m impressed by the ease at which it allows to setup a TV, support for multiple TVs, controlling the TV though I’m not in the line of sight and using volume buttons of smart phone to control volume of TV. What’s annoying and missing with the app As advertised the app works very well in controlling Samsung TVs (B-, C-, D- E-, and F-Series) except it is very painful to move mouse pointer while browsing web on TV. When you try to move mouse pointer using the App, it mouse painfully slow especially. I gave us using the app to control mouse pointer after trying couple of times. I installed this App thinking that it may help me browse web on Smart TVs, especially a key board support to type web urls. App does not supports entering text either while browsing web or searching through Smart TV apps like YouTube, App Store etc. Developers of this App never advertised keyboard support so no complaints about this. But it would be very helpful if the developers allow this app use as a keyboard and rescue me from the pain of typing text using TV Remote control.   I have an Action Method that I'd either like to return JSON from on one condition or redirect on another condition. I thought that I could do this by returning ActionResult from my method but doing this causes the error "not all code paths return a value" Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or how to achieve the desired result? • Reflection Permission problems when using the GSON library in a applet.

  I'm writing an Applet that makes some JSON-RPC calls. I'm using the Google JSON library (GSON) to cast the response JSON into a class. Thsi seems to work fine as is but when I use this code in my Applet, I'm hit with a java.lang.reflect.reflectpermission. From what I read on this thread on SO, it seems that since GSON uses Reflection, I cannot use it in Applets unless I explicitly modify the security policy. How can I get around this? I've created a bunch of classes in my application and was using the Gson.fromJson method to cast it into the class. Is there any way to achieve the same functionality without having to re-write half my code. (The complexity of dealing with JSON in Java seems to be in a league of its own!) Thanks in advance guys.

If I run .evalJSON(true) (to sanitize) an error happens within prototype saying "json" is undefined. The same happens if I do .evalJSON(). If I do .evalJSON with no parenthesis, then data is just an empty object and no error happens. Is there something wrong with my JSON?

  Hello All, My application currently relies on JDBC realm authentication. Recent needs have forced us to think about having LDAP authentication as well. We are thinking about using Active Directory for both authentication as well as authorization (roles). As a standalone test, I was able to authenticate my application with AD. But here is the confusion I have going forward. If the user chooses LDAP authentication when he logs in, I authenticate the user with AD, get the user's roles and do I replicate(create a new) windows user in my database?. I have to have the user in the database, because many parts of the application is designed to retrieve the user from database If the users chooses local login, I still should have JDBCRealm somewhere that I should use to authenticate the user. Is it possible to have multiple realms in tomcat? (I sort of know it is possible, but havent seen much documentation around it) Any thoughts, comments, suggestions would immensely help me Thanks K

The web application can successfully call methods like ValidateUser and GetRolesForCurrentUser through the WFC services. I want to integrate the WFC authentication service with my web.config and site.map. Do I need to write a custom provider, or is there some way I can modify the web.config of the web application to use the WFC authentication service as its membership provider? This way I can set what roles have access to what directories based off the WFC authentication service.

  Hi - Webmethod returns an array of objects - something like this {"d": [[{"Amount":100,"Name":"StackOverflow"}, {"Amount":200,"Name":"Badges"}, {"Amount":300,"Name":"Questions"}]]} On the client-side, when the JSON is referenced using msg.d, I get a msg.d is undefined error. I am using jQuery JavaScript Library v1.4.2 How do I access the elements in the array of objects? Adding more findings, code and questions: I don't see __type in the JSON object that is returned. Does that mean that the object sent from the server is not JSON formatted? When the __type is not a part of the response, I will not be able to use msg.d? (msg.d is undefined) Some more: 1. I can access the elements from client side using msg[0][0].Amount - How can I specifically JSON format my return object (from the server)

• IIS7 & WIndows Authentication - authenticating to the wrong domain

  I have an IIS 7 web app that is using Windows authentication. Currently, everything is set up correctly based on all that I've been able to find on the web. What's happening is when a user tries to get to that domain, they see the authentication popup, but they are being requested to authenticate to "servername.domain" instead of just the domain .... How do I get IIS 7 (or the browser for that matter) to realize that windows authentication should be to the domain, not to the machine hosting the IIS 7 instance?? Thanks, Steve G.

  I would like to know if the following is possible: As part of the PageLoad of an ASP.Net page request: Use HttpWebRequest (POST) to make a request to a forms authentication webpage of a different web application Examine the response to see if the authentication succeeded (identifiable if an authentication cookie has been set) If it fails, then finish the ASP.Net page request, which will display a message saying "couldn't auto-login" or some such thing If success, then instead of completing the ASP.Net page lifecycle, use "Response.Write" to send the response from the HttpWebRequest back to the browser (thus essentially displaying the webpage from the HttpWebRequest) If the above is possible, then, is there also a way to transfer the authentication cookie from the HttpWebResponse to the requesting browser? My gut feeling is probably not - but if this is the case, then how do proxy servers handle such things? Is that not essentially what they are doing? Thanks for any help

  I am maintaining this servlet that has a HttpServletResponse response that replies back to the client an XML message. I want to take the XML message and convert it to JSON, then send the JSON back. I want to avoid writing my own JSON converter if possible. Does anyone have a good method of doing this? I googled for this: http://pvoss.wordpress.com/2009/02/26/servlet-filter-to-convert-xml-to-json/ , which is exactly what I want but they are using a hacked dom4j jar which doesn't help me.
