Python Scraper for Javascript?

Hey all, Can anyone direct me to a good Python screen scraping library for javascript code (hopefully one with good documentation/tutorials)? I'd like to see what options are out there, but most of all the easiest to learn with fastest results... wondering if anyone had experience. I've heard some stuff about spidermonkey, but maybe there are better ones out there? How can I use Perl to grab text from a web page that is dynamically generated with JavaScript?

There is a website I am trying to pull information from in Perl, however the section of the page I need is being generated using javascript so all you see in the source is: <div id="results"></div> I need to somehow pull out the contents of that div and save it to a file using Perl/proxies/whatever. e.g. the information I want to save would be document.getElementById('results').innerHTML; I am not sure if this is possible or if anyone had any ideas or a way to do this. I was using a lynx source dump for other pages but since I cant straight forward screen scrape this page I came here to ask about it! I am trying to do some screen-scraping of a website. The content that I want to get is inside of an IFrame. How do I get the InnerText or HTML that is being displayed inside of the IFrame? I am using .Net 4.0 and C#. I want to be able to do this from a WinForm. When to use <strong> and when to use <b> or other ways to give look of bold? strong has semantic value ( and useful for screen reader while b is presentation (and even valid in HTML 5). my question is not what is the difference between strong and b. The question is when to use semantic tag and when to use just to make text bold Should I always use <strong> if client's content files (MS word files) has some words bold in content paragraphs? How can we know when client want to give emphasis to text and when he just want to make text bold for presentation/aesthetic purpose? Why does my app not work on Android 2.3?

Hi all, just a quick question about Android 2.3. I've been receiving reports from people using my app that it crashes on startup in Android 2.3. It works absolutely fine on the other SDK versions as far as I can tell. Since I don't have a phone running Android 2.3 I can't test out where the error is, which makes it very frustrating to deal with! Has anyone got any ideas what might have changed in Android 2.3 to mean the app crashes? Has anyone else had a similar problem? The following are ideas I've had for what might be causing it... Splash screen - on my main activity I trigger this in onCreate and it displays for 3 secs before finishing I'm using the GPS capability of Android, has this vastly changed in 2.3 to mean that something's going wrong? There's been a fundamental change in application startup in 2.3 that I'm not aware of. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

The website has no public API , hence the reason for the scrapper. Is there a library to perform the following functions? or what do I do? automate fill-in form, auto click Automate submit button check which URL the user has landed on, and redirect user to URL Grab data from label. Activate window/application

I have implemented a Splash Screen according to WiredPrairie unmanaged c++ splasher class. But not when my application loads, my window isn't activated. The user has to click on the login box even thought it is the only window open in my application. I have tried the following but none of these work. Topmost = true; Focus(); Activate(); Is there any way to give my login window focus when the application starts? Sometimes the window behind it has focus! (Visual Studio if run on my machine), Explorer or a different application window on other peoples machines. Anyone have any idea?

How to uniquely identify a monitor?

I'm working on a project where I take screenshots of individual monitors (TMonitor) and stream their images through network (remote desktop viewing). Suppose a monitor is added/removed (which I can recognize this already), I need to synchronize which monitor this happened to. Because, suppose there's 3 monitors, indexes 0, 1, 2. Monitor 1 is removed. I don't want to automatically change index 2 to 1, I want it to maintain an ID at all times. Is there any property I can recognize in the TMonitor class (Screen.Monitors[i]) to uniquely identify it?

[WordPress 3.1.3] Sreen option is disabled when a plugin is activated

I'm pretty new to wordpress. I was assigned to create a custom plugin for one of our projects here. The plugin worked as expected and there is no problem activating/deactivating it. When I was exploring the admin panel I noticed that the screen option is off. I read from a blog somewhere that deactivating the plugin one by one to check which plugin has caused this. I did just this and found out that the custom plugin I created was the cause. My question is, is there way to check what have caused this? Some log file I can look into? There is no error message or warning when I activated the plugin and it is giving the output required. This is my first plugin, any advice will be helpful. Btw, this plugin will display a comment (most recent will be shown first) in a widget and there is prev/next navigation to go through the rest of the comments. Thanks, RNorbe

why does the gingerbread emulator orientation gets stuck in apps?

At first I thought this was a problem with my app, but it seems to be happening in any app (though interestingly, not the home screen) in the gingerbread emulator. To replicate my issue, open eclipse and fire up the android emulator for gingerbread (I'm using the "Google APIs - API Level 9" as my target) So the procedure to duplicate once the emulator loads is press LCtrl-F11 to shift orientation to landscape, then again to switch to portrait Result: In the homescreen: The view rotates to landscape, and then back to portrait, as expected In any app (i've tried browser, calculator, maps, and the app i'm currently working on): the view rotates to landscape, and then nothing, it stays in landscape even the emulator is displaying the phone in landscape mode (see below) http://i54.tinypic.com/2ake06v.jpg Has anyone else had this issue, or have I installed the emulator in some incorrect way - this hasn't been an issue with any of the previous emulators

change label text from a VB6 binary (not source code)

Hi, we have a VB6 binary executable that comes with no source code. And we need to change the label text for that VB6 application from "AAA" to "BBB". Is there any way or tools that can do that? The closest tool I can find right now is microsoft UISpy, it can read all the other elements but not the label. I hope there is a tool that can change the resource in the .exe so that the label "AAA" will read "BBB". Or is it possible to write a wrapper application, it will launch the .exe, examine the application screen for "AAA" and change that to "BBB"? Thank you for your help!

How to prevent screen locking when lid is closed?

I have Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome 3 (no Unity), gnome-screen-saver has been removed and replaced with xscreensaver. The screensaver stuff all works fine -- no complaints there. When I close my laptop lid, even for a second, the screen locks (and the dialog box asking for my password is xscreensaver's). I'd like for this not to happen... How to automatically resize the Dash when screen dimensions change?

I use a convertible thinkpad (x201t) and magick-rotation to rotate the screen by 90 degrees in tablet mode. Therefore after rotation the screen's width is only 800 points (the ordinary resolution is 1200x800). The Dash does not adapt to this new state and therefore if I click on it, it is oversized and I cannot reach the applications/files/buttons on its side. Is there a way to tell the Dash that it should only ever use a width of 800 pixels, or any other solution to automatically adapt its size when rotating?

Does anyone know of a website that will take a full screen shot of another website and let users write notes over it then send that annotated photo by email or private link? Basically looking for quicker way to write notes on a site other than taking a screen shot my self and putting it into photoshop. Just an update, I don't need any browser extensions which I already have and do the same. I'm looking for a website app which does this to give to a client.

Unable to boot into 11.10 in normal (get a black screen) OR recovery (get just a flashing cursor, no cli)

Okay, so I had a dual boot of Tango Studio (based on Ubuntu 10.04) and Windows XP. Yesterday I downloaded the .iso for Ubuntu 11.10 and attempted to install from a USB (my BIOS won't normally boot from USB but I had PLOP boot manager on a CD). I booted up Ubuntu from the USB and then from there formatted the partition with Tango on and installed Ubuntu 11.10. On booting up I came into Grub rescue mode. So I booted up from the USB again and used boot-repair to reinstall Grub. After this I would see the normal Grub menu, but on choosing Ubuntu I would come to a black screen. On choosing recovery mode it would begin starting normally with no obvious errors but instead of coming to a cli I would just get a blank screen with a flashing cursor on the top left, not accepting any input. I have since reformatted and reinstalled from a CD rather than USB and had the exact same problem. I used boot-repair again and the result is the same. Output of the most recent boot-repair is at http://paste.ubuntu.com/869805/ I have also tried editing the ubuntu grub entry and replacing quiet with text nomodeset as I saw in an answer to another question. This got me a bit further - I saw the purple ubuntu loading screen but still came to a blank screen after that. Anyway, in most of the other questions in which that is brought up the user is still able to boot into recovery, while I am not. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance, let me know if there's any more info I need to provide! EDIT FOR MORE INFO: I read something saying it's quiet splash that should be replaced with nomodeset. Earlier I had left splash in the line. So i tried it this way and it froze after displaying the following text: fsck from util-linux 2.19.1 mountall: Plymouth command failed mountall: Disconnected from Plymouth /dev/sda5:clean, 139359/1741488 files, 745830/6961125 blocks From a bit of googling it doesn't look like plymouth is essential, but I've checked and I do have the most current versions of mountall and plymouth installed so I don't know why there's a problem EDIT FOR MORE INFO AGAIN: I used dkpg --reconfigure plymouth cause I saw it mentioned in another forum and it still says plymouth command failed on boot

What is this thing called?!?! (bottom of screen popup)

I am looking for the name and some possible jquery libraries etc for the standard bottom of screen popup bar. Its like a little bar that pops out on the bottom of the screen after X seconds or however really - generally slides up, about 50px or so high, and usually the length of the main container. used for some form of coupon advertisement or various promotion text etc. What is the proper term for this item, and would there be any good references to best-use guidelines?

I have had Ubuntu 12.04 for 6 days now and now, for some reason, I am getting the GRUB screen when I try to restart my computer. When I turn it on, it asks me, since I also have Windows 7 on my laptop, if I want to start with windows 7 or Ubuntu. When I choose Ubuntu, it brings me to the GRUB screen. How do I get to my normal Ubuntu desktop when in my computer appears the next message? GNU version 1.99-21ubuntu3.9

UIViewController not oreintating. Methods not called

Greetings, This question does seem to be an ongoing saga in the world of iphone SDK... so heres my contribution... Had two separate projects from the same template... one semi-works, the other not at all... Please let me explain my steps... used this basic GL ES template //iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2008/12/opengl-project-template-for-xcode.html had to sort out some of the 'Release' configuration but otherwises has eveything I need to add orientation to a GL ES project. One my first project, did my stuff, then added these methods.... -(BOOL)shouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation ..... -(void)willRotateToInterfaceOrientation .... -(void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation .... -(void)willAnimateRotationToInterfaceOrientation .... And understand what they do (or are trying to do in my case), the (BOOL)should... gets called once when the view controller is created, and returns 'YES'. But after that none of the other methods are called! So I started from scratch with a blank template (GL ES one from above)...and added minimum to support auto rotation. But this time none of the methods get called! So I investigated .... //developer.apple.com/iphone/library/qa/qa2010/qa1688.html as it said, I added the GLViewController.view first, then added the GLview as subviews of the application delegate. Nothing! Then found this //www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/44993-how-determine-ipad-launch-orientation.html which states to enable orientation notifications [[UIDevice currentDevice] beginGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications]; and then subsequently disable them in the view controller... makes sense...did it, nothing... I think the notifications might be on by default though, since I didn't need to enable them in the first project, yet it still try to verify a orientation (i.e (BOOL)shouldAutoRotate... )... If any one could help me out it would be greatly appreciated as this issue is driving me insane. Thanks in advance. Why do I get a blank screen when starting Wubi?

I used Wubi to download 12.04 on a new partition. When restarting, the computer (Levono windows 7 -64) froze with no signal on my screen. Turning the computer on and off I received the option to sign in on windows or ubuntu. Windows worked well, but Ubuntu seems to bomb again as before. I can look at the new partition where some Ubuntu files exist via Windows explorer. What am I to do? Is 12.04 compatible with windows 7?

Why does my screen blank out for the duration of the Grub boot menu?

Upon booting, when I should see the GRUB menu, my monitor simply says: "No optimum mode. Recommended mode: 1600*1200". If I wait for a short while, Ubuntu starts to boot and it reaches the desktop. So I guess there is no video signal during that time, there's the grub menu but I cant see it and after the wait time everything is fine. I have the same problem when I log out for a short moment, before the log in screen is reached. and this also happens when i shut down ubuntu. The VGA is an onboard NVIDIA GeForce 7025.

Why are Virtual Terminal Blank using NVIDIA propietary drivers?

When using nouveau the fps are low compared to nvidia closed driver. But when booting, nvidia drivers show the ubuntu splash screen in a 900x800 resolution like nvidia its not loaded yet. When nouveau it splash in a decent resolution. The problem I'm having since karmic koala is I cant switch to virtual terminals with nvidia closed drivers. By the way, is the same PC: VAIO VPCCW19FX with NVIDIA G210M, now with precise amd64. How to keep pyglet from clearing the screen ?

I want to draw a scene and sequentially add lines to it. But pyglet keeps updating without control :( , so all I get is blinks from pyglet.gl import * window=pyglet.window.Window() def drawline(): ... @window.event def on_draw(): drawline() pyglet.app.run() should I change the decorator(if there exist options) or what?
