• What is the name for landing pages that are one long page?

  Really don't see them much anymore, but here's an example of what I mean: From comments: These are "high pressure" sales pages, design to overload the user with information, sell them on the belief that what they're buying is what they need, normally have a lot of testimonials, highlighted text, etc. The pages I'm talking about are not user friendly, they're aggressive sales pitches designed to target users wanting to belief the webpage they just landed on will solve there problems for an "affordable" price. Here's an example: www_landingpagecashmachine_com (remove the underscores, since I'm attempting to avoid linking to a site like that...) Bonus points: if you're able to tell me the name of the guy/company that popularized these types of pages; recall hearing about his company years ago, after he died in a crash while racing on a track with his Ferrari club on the west coast of the US. (Update: Appears Corey Rudl was the guy's name, and his company was called "The Internet Marketing Center." Even with that info, I've still been unable to find the name for these type of pages.)

• How to download streaming video from a flash player (arte)?

  there are a couple of concerts that I would very much like to view from Arte (I think it's a french TV channel?) but my connection is not good enough to stream the video. How can I download the file to play it locally? Here is an example link: http://www.my-jazzlive.tv/?p=1862 I have tried popular browser plugins such as DownloadHelper and Flash Video Downloader, these are working fine for me on sites such as youtube but they don't seem to recognise any stream from the Arte video player. I also looked through /tmp for something that looks like a partially downloaded video, but no luck.

• LIRC-ZILOG on ubuntu 12.04

  I followed these guides to configure a Hauppauge PVR, and after compiling the hpvr modules, I have this problem: (that also includes the zilog one) # locate zilog /lib/modules/3.2.0-29-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/media/lirc/lirc_zilog.ko /lib/modules/3.2.0-34-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/media/lirc/lirc_zilog.ko /usr/src/linux-headers-3.2.0-29-generic/include/config/lirc/zilog.h sudo modprobe lirc_zilog FATAL: Error inserting lirc_zilog (/lib/modules/3.2.0-34-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/media/lirc/lirc_zilog.ko): Invalid argument The PVR works and I can get a test video with sound. The remote does not. I want the transmitter to work so it can automatically change the channel on the cable box and find the video I wanted to record. The LIRC sources are not on Ubuntu sources and so I can only guess at what commands I might have to use. How do I resolve the error and get the remote working?

• Hostapd to connect laptop to Android

  i am trying to set up my laptop as an access point for my Android to use WiFi, so i knew that ubuntu sets the network as Ad-Hoc which is not discoverable by android, So i tried the method explained here -which i found on many other websites- but when i run hostapd.conf this error appears : nl80211: Failed to set interface wlan0 into AP mode nl80211 driver initialization failed. • Black screen after select installing on a Dell Inspiron 14z

  I'm trying to do a dual boot on my Dell Inspiron 14z notebook, but I always get a black screen after selecting Install Ubuntu. I've tried to add nomodeset and acpi_osi="Linux" to the boot options, but it doesn't change anything. The hardware: 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3517U processor (4M Cache, up to 3.0 GHz) 8GB2 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz 500GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD and 32GB mSATA SSD AMD Radeon HD7570M 1GB This question isn't duplicated. I've already tested all tips in the following question! My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it?

Does it seem an adventure? Well it is and I will tell you how I came to have this international experience. Dzien Dobry! My name is Wojciech Jurojc, I am Polish and I am currently a Business Development Consultant within Oracle, based in Prague. I joined Oracle on the 1st of August 2011. I graduated in 2010 and obtained 2 Masters Degrees in Political Science and Economics. I would like to tell you more about my past and how I joined Oracle. In 2005 I began studying at the Faculty of Political Sciences Gdansk University. In 2008, I obtained a Bachelors Degree. During these three years I had the opportunity to go to England twice, where I worked as a Bartender, first in Blackpool and then in Manchester. This allowed me to improve my language skills and become more confident. In the meantime, I joined the International Student Organization-AIESEC, where I was organized conferences and conducted student projects. Also I met a mass of interesting people from around the world. After graduation in 2008, I was able to get an Internship within a big company in Poland. I worked there as an Intern in the Purchase Department. That was my first adventure within a corporate environment. I learnt a lot about purchasing processes and negotiations. In September 2008, I started studying two Masters Faculties: Political Science and Economics. It was very difficult, but it was not impossible. Over the next two years of studying I was able to go on a three month internship to India where I worked as a Marketing Assistant in an NGO. I was travelling around northern India and did presentations to the academic community about green energy and environmental projects. I had the opportunity to visit Nepal and walked in the Himalayas. That was a huge experience as well as a cultural shock. It taught me how to deal with many problems and to appreciate what I have. At the end of 2009 I was working as a Marketing Assistant for a Leasing company, where I learnt useful sales knowledge and improved my objection handling skills. In July 2010, I graduated with a double Masters and found a job in Thailand as Sales Representative in an IT company. I worked in Thailand until the end of January 2011. Besides that, I was working in an International company with interesting people and I had the opportunity to travel around Thailand and visit Cambodia. After this adventure I started looking for jobs in Europe where I could further develop my sales skills. I found Oracle and I don’t regret this decision which I made. I am currently working in Prague in an international Hardware team and I know that is not the end of my adventures. At this moment, I am working in a team of 12 members. Ten of them are based in Prague and 2 others are based in Russia. We come from different countries such as: Czech Republic, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Slovakia and Kazakhstan. I am working on the Polish market, cooperating with our Hardware customers and partners. What do I enjoy the most about my job? I enjoy every challenge that I face in my daily activities as there are always new experiences for me and new things that I learn. As part of Oracle, I gain international exposure and therefore more career opportunities to explore. I have planned my next step for the career path I dream of and I am currently working on it. • Why can't mythtv backend see my HDHomeRun tuner?

  Ran a fresh install of Mythbuntu 12.04.1 32 bit. Went through the backend setup and was able to see my HDHomeRun Prime (HDHR3) device, scan, and detect channels. Cannot get to live TV on frontend. Backend log seems to indicate it's not detecting my tuner, even though I configured it in the setup. • I'm tempted to include easter eggs in my code - will this get me fired?

  While working on a portion of the code for our application, I've noticed an opportunity to include one of my side projects as an easter egg. I can do this in a way which I am certain will in no way harm anyone, and I've met with a significant and representative sample of our client base - I'm certain that those who have the knowledge and skills required to find the egg, will also find it humorous. How likely is it that I will get fired for including an easter egg in our application? For more context, the application is aimed at enterprise clients, and, while the users of it tend to be technical, geeky and will enjoy the egg, those in charge of purchasing are on the sales/marketing side of things. I can't even begin to guess how they would react. Edit: Yes, I've asked my manager. As you might expect in a corporate environment, the answer was: "I cannot condone this. You're on your own"
