• How to get files that have been added/modifed in a batch file

  I have the following batch file which concatenates all of the files in a folder that have a .sql ending. set func=%~dp0%Stored Procedures\*.sql for %%i in (%func%) do type "%%i" >>InstallScript.sql We use SVN as our repository, and we're using branching. Currently the script concatenates all the .sql files, even the ones that haven't changed. I'd like to change it so it only concatenates files that have been modified and/or created after the branch was created. We can do that by looking at the datetime on the .svn folder in each folder(there's a Stored Procedure, View, Function subfolders). But I don't know how to do that with batch files. Ideally something like this(psuedo code): set func=%~dp0%Stored Procedures\*.sql set branchDateTime=GetDateTime(%~dp0%.svn) <- Gets the datetime when the .svn folder was created for %%i in (%func%) { if(%%i.LastModifiedOrCreated > branchDateTime) do type "%%i" >> InstallScript.sql }

• Syncing apt-get installations between multiple computers

  Is there a way to synchronize my installations (and removals) between multiple PCs? Preferably with dropbox - since I'm already using that to keep my files in sync. Edit: I thought of an alias for the apt-get install and apt-get remove commands that stores the parameters to a file (one for install, one for remove) and another command that reads all the entries in the file and executes the respective command. Is this an realistic approach?

• Get and set accessors do they protect different instances of a variable?

  The standard method of implementing get and set accessors in C# and VB.NET is to use a public property to set and retrieve the value of a corresponding private variable. Am I right in saying that this has no effect of different instances of a variable? By this I mean, if there are different instantiations of an object, then those instances and their properties are completely independent right? So I think my understanding is correct that setting a private variable is just a construct to be able to implement the get and set pattern? Never been 100% sure about this.

• Looking for parallel programming problem

  I am trying to come up with a problem that is easily solvable in a parallel manner and that requires communication between threads for a test. I also am trying to avoid problems that require require random waits, which rules out dining philosophers and producer-consumer (bounded buffer), two of the classics. My goal is for the student to be able to write the program in less than 20-30 minutes in front of a computer not knowing of the problem beforehand. (This is to prevent preparation more than to come up with something novel.) I am trying to stress the communication aspect of the program, though the multi-threaded nature is also important. Does anyone have some ideas? Edit: I'm using Google Go for the language and testing comprehension of the goroutines/channels combo vs an actors library that I authored.

  When I open the src file in the project folder in Package Explorer in Eclipse, it says the following: Error retrieving content description for resource '/GuiAdd/src/GuiAdd.Java.' Now, the directories of the source projects shown in Eclipse Package explorer doesn't always have the source file to link to, causing this message. I need a way to sync the folders in the correct directory without overwriting the newest ones. Some source files I project files of the root which the Package explorer links to may be the correct versions but other source files in the root may not have the latest source or any source. I am not using svn/git or other depository programs.

  I'm learning (relearning) how to use NSIS as I have not touched it in a bit. I also have recently become familiar with the Ruby language and find it very pleasing and actually a bit fun. And upon reading about the history of Rake I had a thought. What are the pros/cons of someone making (or migrating, or something) an installation system similar to NSIS in Ruby. It seems the learning curve would be far easier (NSIS seems so low level) and probably get the same job done in far less scripting. NSIS seems very outdated. Seems it would tie into things like Rake easier and Ocra and make Ruby distribution simpler for applications too. Maybe even give me a project to work on. Any thoughts on this?

  I’ve had loads of fantastic feedback on the concept and early curation wireframes I posted on the labs, and it’s led to some further thoughts on the topic of voting. More specifically, thoughts about the kinds of behaviour and values a platform encourages in it’s users via the set of available actions. StackOverflow is a very good example of this kind of sociology in action, not only via the set of available actions, but through the reputation system it uses to both reward and control it’s users. In our case (specifically, in the case of the curation model I’ve been talking about thus far), the main considerations are how the quality of content is judged, and how to make sure each piece of curated content gets a fair hearing. Based on the feedback and conversations I’ve had with many of you over the last few days, a few considerations came to light about how we might need to weight and display our curations, and I’ve written about that more extensively over on the labs themselves – have a read and let me know what you think.

• 12.04 freezes on install

  I'm new to ubuntu and can't for the life of me understand how to get around this issue. I'm having a problem where when I insert the boot disk that i burned for 12.04, it loads and gives me the language option and select an installation type, i select either try ubuntu / install ubuntu and it begins to load. Then after about 5 mintues of the purple screen with the dots under the UBUNTU it freezes the whole computer, and the only way to get out is to turn off the laptop with the power button. I have read previous threads saying people had similar "freezing" issues including ones that mention my model of laptop, HP Pavillion DV1000. But it appears their problems are post installation and relate to their wireless cards. I have tried changing the boot options (F6) and I am totally stuck. Can anyone shed any light on to this issue? • Upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04 stuck

  While upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04, I'm stalled at the step: Installing new version of config file /etc/init/udevtrigger.conf The Terminal in the Distribution Upgrade window is expanded, there is no prompt for user input. I've hit enter a few times but it doesn't change anything but add a blank line after the last print statement. It's been sitting for ~6 hours at this stage. No other windows or dialog boxes are open. The upgrade has progressed through "Preparing to Upgrade", "Setting new software channels", and "Getting new packages". Under the progress bar (which estimates 1 day 2 hours remaining, and has for some time), it says Preparing to configure libpcap0.8. I'd take a screen-shot, but it won't let me save the file anywhere. The progress bar is about 1/3 complete.

  I'm working on a simple game that has the user control a space ship that shoots small circular projectiles. However, I'm not sure how to render these. Right now I know how to make a LPDIREC3DSURFACE for a sprite and render it onto a LPDIRECT3DDEVICE9, but that's only for a single sprite. I assume I don't need to constantly create new surfaces and devices. How should projectile generation/rendering be handled? Thanks in advance.

• What would one call this architecture?

  I have developed a distributed test automation system which consists of two different entities. One entity is responsible for triggering tests runs and monitoring/displaying their progress. The other is responsible for carrying out tests on that host. Both of these entities retrieve data from a central DB. Now, my first thought is that this is clearly a server-client architecture. After all, you have exactly one organizing entity and many entities that communicate with said entity. However, while the supposed clients to communicate to the server via RPC, they are not actually requesting services or information, rather they are simply reporting back test progress, in fact, once the test run has been triggered they can complete their tasks without connection to the server. The request for a service is actually made by the supposed server which triggers the clients to carry out tests. So would this still be considered a server-client architecture or is this something different?

• Is it possible to force a tab/window to take focus without an alert()? [migrated]

  I've been working to solve some form / session timeout issues on our site. I'd like to get the users attention BEFORE this happens so that they don't lose data that they've entered into long forms. I'm using jquery's .get to confirm with my server when the users session is set to timeout, and warn them 5 minutes before then. I've found that if I pop an alert(), it will bring the focus back to that tab / page -- but this seems 'heavy handed'. Is there a better way to do this?

  I have problem with JDBC application that uses MONEY data type. When I insert into MONEY column: insert into _money_test (amt) values ('123.45') I got exception: Character to numeric conversion error The same SQL works from native Windows application using ODBC driver. I live in Poland and have Polish locale and in my country comma separates decimal part of number, so I tried: insert into _money_test (amt) values ('123,45') And it worked. I checked that in PreparedStatement I must use dot separator: 123.45. And of course I can use: insert into _money_test (amt) values (123.45) But some code is "general", it imports data from csv file and it was safe to put number into string literal. How to force JDBC to use DBMONEY (or simply dot) in literals? My workstation is WinXP. I have ODBC and JDBC Informix client in version 3.50 TC5/JC5. I have set DBMONEY to just dot: DBMONEY=. • How to get the millisecond value from a Timestamp field in firebird with Delphi 2007

  I have a Firebird database (running on server version 2.1.3) and am connecting to it with Delphi 2007 using the DBExpress objects (using the Interbase driver) One of my tables in the database looks something like this CREATE TABLE MYTABLE ( MYDATE Timestamp NOT NULL, MYINDEX Integer NOT NULL, ... Snip ... PRIMARY KEY (MYDATE ,MYINDEX) ); I can add to the table OK, and in Flame Robin it shows the timestamp field as having a millisecond value. But when I do a select all (select * from MYTABLE) on the table I can not get the millisecond value, as it is always returned as 000. This causes major problems as it is part of the primary key (unfortunately I didn't design the table and don't have authority to change it). I have tried the following to get the millisecond value: sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsDateTime; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsSQLTimeStamp; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsStirng; sql1.fieldbyname('MYDATE').AsFloat; But they all return 14/09/2009 14:25:06.000 when formatted. How do I retrieve the millisecond from a timestamp? UPDATE: In case this helps anyone in the future, here are the drivers I tried for DBExpress and the results. We do have stored procedures that run for a long time before they return results (around 15 seconds). does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? I dont think raising the # of connections on the application server will fix this issue buecause if connections were running out then we'd see "Error on allocating connections"

• VB.net (aspx) mysql connection

  Hey all i am new to ASP.NET and VB.net code behind. I have a classic ASP page that connects to the mySQL server with the following code: Set oConnection = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set oRecordset = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") oConnection.Open "DRIVER={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver}; SERVER=xxx.com; PORT=3306; DATABASE=xxx; USER=xxx; PASSWORD=xxx; OPTION=3;" sqltemp = "select * from userinfo WHERE emailAddress = '" & theUN & "'" oRecordset.Open sqltemp, oConnection,3,3 if oRecordset.EOF then ... However, i am unable to find anything to connect to mySQL in ASP.NET (VB.NET).
